Front Camera on Hermes? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hey I've been searching for places to find a replacement for the vga camera on the front of my phone, but I cant find anything. I've found a few people linking to places that no longer exist, but i can't find anything....
Does anybody know where i can buy one of these?

It may help to know the following:
The front camera is manufactured by the Liteon Corporation of Taiwan:
http://www.liteon.com/page.aspx?id=4cdd6857-1b68-4eec-82c2-3d612c9b866f
It may be worth checking with them to see if they supply direct through their on-line Service Contact page:
http://www.liteon.com/Services.aspx?id=34a8d337-1424-4c7a-b219-80a96f109207
The Front Camera Module is:
Liteon Part No: 05P019
HTC Part No: 54H00157-00P (HTC list no alternatives for this component)

We could start a rumor that certain serial numbers have the camera and these have been allocated to certain states only.
We then encourage people to get their drills out and use plenty of pressure as that TyTn's real solid. Now the thing is, what states don't we like, which ones have folks with the old Brain Alignment issue - Illinois?, Missouri? or maybe those Georgian boys???
Place yer votes here.
Oh my.... I can see this gettin' me in real doodoo.

um yeah, i have one of the special serial numbers here in missouri and mine has a camera, just had to get a 1/2" drill and drill a hole straight through the phone, then when i was done i affixed a couple of mirrors angled in different directons on the back of my phone so that it reflects through the hole in the front of the phone, and voila my back camera now works in both directions...
WTF ... looks like a lot of people were right in buying the TyTN ..
But then how do we know that the pic is of a 8525? :hehehe:

Tell me, what can you use the front camera for at this time?
Is there any way to video conference in the USA?
No, right? It's more of a potential use right now and probably for the next 2 yrs, no?

Actually yes video teleconferencing does work on Cingulars net work. I was recently invited to a 3G training and got to see the demonstration from the Ericsson team.
Apps like CoolCamera are starting to show up which support the front cam .. And I think IM apps supporting mobile video conferencing are not that far away ... The next version of Skype is rumored to have it ..

Sure you can. There are a number of H.323 apps out there
Apparently, Cingular engineers are saying the system is capable of VC. This is interesting b/c earlier engineering sources stated here that the necessary QOS enhancements don't exist in the ericsson equipment they're installing.
Still, I bought my TyTN for it's front camera and the slew of video call enhanced VoIP apps that will be released in 2K7.
Hint: M$ is working on one of them....

The only video service will be the Video Share ( one way ) feature which will be available only on the LG CU500 in Jan-Mar '07. Unlikely VC will see the light soon.

are you referring to the program called microsoft portrait? i came across that several months ago, but looks like it was more geared towards video calling over lan (wireless lan) but then again as long as both people had an IP address it should work

Trinity must have GPS

Find this from chinese web site...........................
hi,
that just looks like mapking /papago screen.. cant prove that it has internal GPS.
What is your source.
BTW: the gps-antenna plug on 3300 looks just like the antenna plug on p3600 But that might just a for saving money on connectors though...

The picture shows only 5 received sattellites and no fix!! Not very promising...
The shown device has no brand. It could be a Dopod test device.

depends from many factors that... inside my house also my Globalsat with Sirf Star 3 doesn't fix and get sattellites.
a picture that shows satellite reception means nothing especially when there are many Bluetooth GPSr. Sure my O2 Mini can show you that page as well
Thus it can neither prove or disprove the availability of GPS
There are 2 version of Trinity, one has GPS and the other one don't
So, in that case, how does one know which version has GPS?

Without a source this is just pure fiction.
At least the previous poster provided a picture, lets try and keep to facts or rumours with some form of source, what do you think?

That last number is the IMEI number, as far as I know it says nothing about the model number.
My Dutch device is:
Modelnr: TRIN100 (which is the same)
Platform: PocketPC
IMEI: 35942.....
My device is:
Modelnr: TRIN10000

Here you can the structure of the IMEI-code.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMEI
You can analyse the code here:
http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis&sub=imeinr
I think the only different between the IMEI on the photo is the remainder of the TAC and the unique serial number.
For my Europe/Dutch model:
Est. Date of Range Issuance Around Q1 2006
Reporting Body British Approvals Board of Telecommunications (BABT)
Primary Market Europe
Legal Basis for Allocation EU R&TTE Directive
How does the IMEI number relate to the possibility of GPS-function (which is the topic in this thread)?

As far as I'm concerned It doesn't, and if it did, which I seriously doubt, then nt007 has not provided any clear evidence or explanation.
nt007 if you have something concrete and definite info on this, I'd love to hear it and would be grateful to you for it. if not please stop phrasing your topics in a way that misleads.
I agree with Remixme... Saying that the imei has anything to do with GPS-functionality is most likely not true. This because the imei is made for a purpose, and that purpose is not to identify this type of functionality...
The rumour about 2 different types of P3600, one with and one without GPS, started in the Netherlands I think. Somebody send an e-mail to a internetshop which claimed there was no GPS in the Dutch P3600 versions.
I think this makes no sense. Because it's cheaper for HTC to produce only phones with all the same hardware. But because there is still no centainty the GPS functionallity will be availible, shops and HTC do not dare to say there is a GPS functionallity build in.
I don't wanna disappoint you but take a look at here:

Tips for buying a Hermes based PDA-Phone

I want to purchase a PDA-Phone based on the Hermes platform A.S.A.P.
I would like to hear the opinions of people that saw more than one version of these devices, in order to make an... "inspired" choice.
There is one limitation though: the PDA-Phone mustn't be one of the ones that were branded by carriers (e.g. I can't buy the Orange SPV M3100, the Vodafone one etc.). There is a good reason for this so there's nothing I can do about it.
One other thing: there's no issue about where to buy the phone. I can get it. Just recommend something nice!
Thank you in advance for all your posts !
Cheers,
Screech
Go to the HTC website, they have a list of suppliers of their phones without a simlock; http://www.htc.com

I think your choices are the HTC TyTN or a QTEK. Go to expansys to see the devices, and frankly if cost is no object, just buy from them too.

Yeah, probably you want to give him your bank account information and address so he can order the phone for you on your behalf. And possibly fetch the phone for you from your front door to your bedroom while you lie on your bed

Do I dare ask what happened to the one that was on your phone!?
When my Tytn fall down, i lost him, that is all, all other function are ok for more than a 1 year, but now i want to find and put him.
i'm actually in the same boat as you!
dropped my jasjam and the wheel itself snapped off its base.
think i'm going to try some glue work before buying a new one though.
just need to think of something suitable to act as a little base for it...
I believe someone ordered one from here:
http://www.gsm4world.us/shop/htc-c-210.html
You won't necessarily see the part listed on their website, but you can contact them or indeed any other PDA parts companies listed at my site below.
It's HTC part No 51H00350-00M It's actually referred to as the Flash Light Module because it has the flash on that daughter board as well as the scroll wheel.

gsm4world posted the scroll wheel
here you go:

I feel it is a bit pricey at $26 since I can get a new phone with incentives for $100... I'm trying to see if they will lower the price.

[FIXED] Broken Screen - Advice Needed (ID)

Hi,
I got my Kaiser Screen broken. The phone still functioning, even touch still working/responding. There're cracks & part of LCD darkened & I worry it might get worse by time/use.
Question:
HTC no longer sell devices in my country. What is the reasonable price + shipping? Any reputable seller that ships to my country & payment method?
Thanks for tips.
Edit:
Got the screen replaced & working perfectly!
Use the 4 screw method, without opening the base, took me 20 mins only
Thanks to Mike Channon, Erwinpiero & many others that fixed themselves & posted on this forum!
Well i'd say eBay is your best bet and I wouldn't pay more than £30 (450,000rupiah) delivered for one. Plenty of people selling them from China, just make sure it has a digitiser, and it's the right model. Oh and pay by something secure like Paypal so you have something to fall back on incase its a bad sale.

I think that's reasonable approach, but I'm looking if any member have dealt with particular dealer that delivers .. something that minimize the risk (at least, it's the right item and got delivered). Yes, we can fall back, but I don't think the process is easy, and especially Pay Pal in ID has no legal vehicle, the site refers to SG. That's the reason I try not going blindly if there're any referrals.
In any case, I'll look around, and update when the screen is fixed ..
Useful links
To anyone looking for info, here're good ones (apart from Mike Channon's site)
http://www.formymobile.co.uk/vodafone1615disassembly.php
(using this method, was what I did, and changed the screen in 20 mins)
And I learnt a lot from our own forum here:

Good luck to everyone.
I haven't replaced a screen on my xda stellar yet but i did have to replace one on my xda 2.
I purchased mine of ebay at a store. e-shop I believe it was called. I would recommend that you dismantle the phone first. There were 2 screens available for my xda 2 and the only way to see which one i needed was to see the connectors on the back of the screen. It may be the same case for the tytn 2.
Also make sure you are purchasing a screen with the digitiser attached. It is possible to replace the touchscreen part but believe me it's not worth the hassle.
Good luck
Thank you very much! Unlike TyTn / Dopod 838Pro, Kaiser screen is luckily pretty standard. The replacement was easy as I got the one complete set (screen & digitizer).
It's now fixed & working well.
That's great news!! I just came on to point you towards the service manual for disassembly (google htc kaiser service manual for anyone else who is interested).
I'm considering replacing the external housing of my stellar, it has seen better days! Having seen the procedure to take the pda apart i'm having second thoughts. Glad you found it easy to replace the screen it looks far worse than what i went through with my xda 2

Please guide me to the "the 4 screw method, without opening the base" becuse i have a broken lcd and anew lcd from ebay (25$) and the tools, so everything is ready for action!!!
any instructions, photos, details, pic...etc. would be highly apreciated.
but I need an easy method to do that without dismantling the base and remove the "void" label.
