Desktop passthrough issues - Networking

Howdy,
I bought an HTC Touch a month ago to replace my iPaq 2490. Everything about it works great except for the desktop passthrough feature that lets me connect to the internet when cradled to my PC.
With my iPaq, I could plug it into the cradle, open up IE, and surf to any website with the desktop passthrough feature. I also had an application that would download RSS feeds to my device when connected. Both of these features no longer work. The error I get when trying to use IE to connect is this: "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again".
The funny thing about this is while connected to the cradle with the HTC, I can check my POP3 email accounts without any problem. It also connects and updates my weather plugin, so there is an active connection, it just doesn't seem to work through Internet Explorer. Anything that uses IE to connect to the internet fails.
I've downloaded the Opera Mobile browser and I am able to connect to any website when cradled. Unfortunately all the RSS programs I know of use IE and therefore still cannot connect to update my feeds.
I don't believe it's Activesync related because if I plug in my old iPaq, the desktop passthrough works perfectly. I don't know if there's some place on my HTC to tell IE to use my desktop passthrough connection or not... I can't find it anywhere.
I've done everything I've read from various posts on the net, such as:
- Changed connection type from "Automatic" to "Work Network"
- Added the AllowLSP registry setting recommended to fix a similar problem
- Tried it on Windows Vista with WMDC without any success.
- Tried it at home without any firewall
- Unchecked "Enable advanced network functionality" in the USB to PC setting on the device.
- Uninstalled Activesync 4.5 and reinstalled from scratch
- Done a hard reset of my device twice.
If I connect via GPRS or Wifi, I can use IE without any problems.
You guys are a lot smarter than I on these things so I thought I'd give it a shot and post to see if you've got any helpful advice.
Thanks,
-J

Pocket IE via activesync issues

Hi,
I hope I'm not repeating a question that's been asked a load of times already - but I've been searching for the solution, and can't find it...
When I use bluetooth to connect to activesync, the internet connection via the PC works fine for simple things such as email and telnet, but when I use pocket IE to access many web pages, I get an error message saying that it can't open the page. These are pages that it has no problem with when using gprs connection.
Any idea what's going on?
Cheers,
Phil
Have you enabled pass-through on activesync? Also change your settings in network connections/Advanced/select networks and change what the programs connect through. select your work network then when you sync it will open IE through your pc connection

S.O.S.: Jam + internet + desktop...

Hi guys!
Is it possible to surf the web with my Jam using the internet connection of my desktop pc (in office with lan connection and in house with dial-up!)?
Yes it is, you need to setup activesync over bluetooth however or activesync over Wifi with an add-in card.
There are a lot of guides around on how to do it with bluetooth!
Well!
With only the USB cable is not possible?
Yes it's possible with AS via USB. I've been doing it a long time ago. I don't really surf but I use it to update currency and weather in WorldMate Pro.
zerimar, can you explain me how can I do it please?
There's nothing special. As long as there's a working USB connection between the PPC and AS, open your browser and type in the url.
... not quite yet!
You have to go to connection settings within AS and set "this computer is connected with" to "internet"
then you can surf with your mdac via usb

I don't see what you mean coz I didn't need to do anything in AS Connection Settings.
Hello,
I dont think you need any extra settings to be done. Just have your PC connected to the net and Synchronize your device with active sync and open Pocket ie...Thats it i do!
Regards
Carty..
I know what he means cause i got the same problem, one of my 2 pc connections (one work one home) the work one has a corp lan proxy. ive got only one application that can connect thru the firewall which is Egress RSS reader.
is there anyway to give the proxy link plus username and password like you can in egress to the connection details on the phone or within activesync somewhere?
ive seen on other forums people asking the same thing.

Using GPRS while ActiveSync (USB) is connected

Just as the title reads, I'd like to know if there is a way to have ActiveSync enabled while at the same time piping all data traffic using GPRS.
I use Pocket Controller which requires ActiveSync to be used. The problem is my internet connection associated with my computer is always loaded with data traffic. I use my K-JAM for IM applications and would much like for it to connect to the internet via the GPRS connection I have.
I have discovered that after the Pocket Controller establishes a connection with the K-JAM, if I disable the ActiveSync connection by going to Connection Setting and unchecking the "Allow USB Connections" check box, Pocket Controller continues to work, while at the same time I am able to use the GPRS connection on my PDA.
The problem with this is that, everytime I disconnect my K-JAM and reattach it, I have to enable the "Allow USB connections" option, then let ActiveSync detect the K-JAM only after which Pocket Controller will detect the K-JAM and then disable the "Allow USB connections" option again for GPRS to work.
I hope sombody can shed some light on this.
Upgrade to Activesync 4.5.0 Beta (works fine as far as I can tell, been using it for a while now) and you can select for the phone to continue using the radio while connected, it's just a check box.
Thanks for that bro. I'd much rather avoid any Beta versions. Tell me, would you happen to know if ActiveSync 4.2 supports this feature???
Also, I don't really use any Sync Features. The only reason I use ActiveSync is because I need a way to interface my K-JAM to the computer and install programs... that's about it. So given this situation, will ActiveSync Beta perform ok???

Use the beta man... no biggie.
Well as per your instructions, I used the BETA version v4.5 BETA 2.
After installation, I looked up the connection settings, and there is a check box which reads "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop"
Unfortunately, even though I have checked it, once I connect my K-JAM to it and go back to connection settings, the option disappears and just like with the previous versions of ActiveSync, I can't seem to use EDGE / GPRS while ActiveSync is enabled.
Can someone please help?
TIA
Well...try active sync 4.2! Because in my case it does it even though I don't wish to. There is no more Internet Pass Through, so GPRS connection is started as soon as I try to access a web page.
I actually would like to know how to stop it! I will maybe try 4.5 as the registry hacks I found for 4.2 don't work.
Easist way i got it to do that a while ago (when i didn't want it to ) was to set the network card as a "Work" connection.
Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Network Cards -> change "The Internet" to "Work" and try...
All from memory so post your results
I finally figured it out.
The ActiveSync didn't seem to work. Everytime you connect the Wizard to the computer, it is assigned an IP (in my case it is 169.254.2.1). In the Pocket Controller settings, set it to connect via TCP/IP and punch in the same IP address. You can have ActiveSync disconnected. Pocket Controller will connect to the Wizard and you can use GPRS to access the internet.

how to connect my ipaq to the internet via active sync

hi all,
i've been trying unsuccessfully for days now to try to connect my ipaq 114, running on windows mobile 6 to the internet via my desktop connection. someone suggested the internet pass through connection but apparently active sync does not support that anymore. i have absolutely no idea what to do or if i can even connect to the net via my desktop connection. my pda is also bluetooth enabled. would that be an easier option to do or not?
i've trie googling for answers but most times i end up more confused. can someone please help this newbie out . it would be most appreciated.
if your activesync is not set to block it or your firewall is not
then going into settings->connections->connections->advanced select network
and choosing my network or something like that
should force your device to use the ac connection as network
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
i'm not sure but i always close my firewall when i active sync as my firewall always interupts my connection
i don't see this advanced select network. so i just click on connections settings in active sync and enable evrything.didn't work. do i have to like set up new modem connection or something really basic i have not done
it's a tab called advanced which have a button called select networks
on ur desktop puter, goto active sync connection settings and have it set to the connect to the internet...mine didn't work if i had it on automatic setting
GL
ok i have set it to this computer is connected to internet but it still says cannot cannot with current connection settings?
anyone got any ideas how i can connect my pocket5 pc to the internet using my desktop connection?
I am having a similar problem. my Windows Mobile 6 device works fine at home via Visa sync, or via Wifi. At work if I try to use activeSyn on Windows XP the sync part works fine, but I can't see the internet on the mobile device. On the palmtop I have tried the USB to PC advanced network functionality both on and off. I have also tried various suggestions on this thread, but not working.
any suggestions would be welcome
Bruce

How to connect WM 6.5 device to WinXP via Ad Hoc to Internet

Hello All,
Here is my problem and I need help.
Situation:
Laptop WinXp is connected to Internet via cable modem.
Now I want to make access to Internet via Wi-Fi from laptop for WM 6.5 device.
I manage to connect and browse Internet with other laptop via laptop connected to cable modem –internet. WM device is showing connected to SSID but Internet doesn’t work.
Internet access via ActiveSync and USB cable is working perfectly but via Wi-Fi doesn’t
After many hours browsing various forums I couldn’t find any good working solution.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Regards and Thank you.

How can I at least connect WM6.5 using Laptop's Internet?
I have WM6.5 device (HD2) with no data plan. At home I can use wifi to connect to internet. However at work, I have ActiveSync 4.5 on laptop but It does not connect to Internet. I read somewhere that using ActiveSync WM device can use laptops internet, but I could not get it to work. Can anyone tell me how??
Intermittently with some setting change I was able to get internet only via Internet Explorer in HD2, and at one other time only in Opera, but never from any other Apps (like GoogleMaps, HD2 sense's Weather, etc). It could be when I tried InternetSharing on my laptop's WinXP's network connection to wireless Network or to LAN2 (LAN to Wireless or LAN to LAN2. LAN2 is automatically showing when my device is connected via ActiveSync). However I am back to zero now.
I wonder it has anything to do with Company's Firewall policies. On my laptop Firewall is turned off. But then I was not able to get this to work at home either.
I have the following settings on ActiveSync's "Connection Settings":
All six items checked.
3rd Item dropdown box has COM3 or DMA (could not figure out any difference).
4th item dropdown has Automatic or Work Network.
connected via USB cable.
Let me know what is it that I am missing??

Try changing the 4th item dropdown to "The Internet"
Try unchecking the "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop"
The 3rd item dropdown doesn't matter if you connect via USB.
Can someone figure out how to sync via WiFi?
Undoubtedly, technology problems hold you and your company back. That's not good for business and as such it's a great idea to get the problems fixed quickly. For several small companies, small business computer support isn't confined to one person within the company; rather, it is tech support that is called in.

I tried and that did not work. Is there any body who got this working, if not in company settings, what about in home settings??
