I am really tired with vista. No memory available, slow, etc. I use Ubuntu in my laptop and It boots with 200 mb and It recognizes correctly bt, wifi usb, etc and is very fast. I think Ubuntu would be a good thing for shift. Pof, any news with the touch screen driver? . The only way to be happy with vista would be double ram and double disk. And when I boot with ubuntu It moves very quickly my developer tools (eclipse, jboss) and the same laptop with vista cant move it correctly ( very slow, no mem available, etc)
Dani
Ubuntu is the worst OS I have ever used .... :/... maybe you were lucky with your laptop model. I have never found a linux fast... I have ubuntu on my second computer and it's 100 times slower than the xp that is on it. But i will install vista instead of these 2 bad oses.
Vista with 1go is good .. but sure 2go is really good.
i think that a linux installation make faster a pc. but not very compatible with other things. i prefer windows with defects/or goodness i'm waiting for 2gb ram for the shift..
SORRY FOR MY ORRIBLE ENGLISH!!!

At the moment the touchscreen is the only thing that is not working, the rest of the hardware is working 100%, even faster than in vista. Those not believing it should really try it before talking

Vista feels sloooow, even I have set the look & feel to windows classic, optimized settings for best performance, etc... booting is slow, opening firefox is slow, browsing files is slow... Linux is far way more responsive than Vista on the HTC Shift, less resource hungry even with the compiz-real animations enabled which are quite eye-candy. Suspending and resuming is almost 3 times faster in Linux, and once you get to the desktop after booting it is responsive, you don't need to wait 1 minute until the hard-drive led stops blinking to be able to work as it happens in Vista... anyway, don't want to convince you, I'm a Linux user and I feel more comfortable this OS, of course it has a few drawbacks (touchscreen not working yet) but comparing both systems I prefer linux, which runs quite nicely on the Shift, if you don't believe me, just try and compare them yourself

I have used the shift for about 2 hours.. and haven't seen anything slow
changing the look & feel doesn't change anything (I don't even know why Microsoft thinks that there are some differences)
booting is slow.. yeah .. because Vista is loading "everything" contrarely to linux.. it's a choice, you can disabled all that things.. and have a fast booting system (never seen how a man made vista boot in less than 1minute?)
firefox is always slow... and even slower in linux (it takes about 3 minutes to open on a linux system with P4 3.2Ghz at my university ... it's not good.. it has never been good... firefox is damn slow at 1st launch)
suspending and hibernating working on linux? never had been able to have this working on my 3 computers..
I don't have the shift to try myself.. but I have 2 ubuntu running @ home.. beside 2 vista... and the 2 vistas are faster, easier and more beautiful.
I'm not someone who hates linux, linux is fine for programming, it has some nice features... (even if compiz is not working as fine as you said... all my friends have lost their graphic card beacause of compiz.. it still unstable and it still too much buggy).
I use Linux for about 3 years... and the only thing that I have found better in linux is the file system.. anything else is better in Vista.

my vista system is a year old... and is completely well working ... I have never seen an OS being so fast. I have 2Go of Ram and no dualcore.
I agree about the boot (it takes about 5minutes with my 10 000rpm ... so sad) but hibernation is so fast... less than 10 seconds to be back !

???? what do you mean ? ... Windows Vista and Ubuntu are OSes ..
what about "monoculture"? what do you mean by that?
I'm not telling that Linux OSes are all bad... but Ubuntu is not a good OS .. it is becoming better and better because of the community , but the reason that people like it is because it acts more like Windows than like Linux. The network center in ubuntu is horrible... not working properly and not able to show wireless network.
The performances are not good, there are many issues with the 3D drivers and there are no real drivers (for ATI ... don't know about nVidia.. I don't have any nVidia card). Somes are talking about FGLRX, somes about other drivers... but none of them are really working !

There are plenty of options and lots of flexibility for boot-time optimization in Linux, like for example recording disk i/o during the boot process and then using this information to precache data for subsequent boots, launching initscripts in parallel, etc.. it's a choice, contrarily to Windows (never seen how a man made linux boot in less than 8 seconds?)

mmh that seems good news
my compiz installation is about what... 6 months? it was the last released of ubuntu (not the one that will show up really soon).
my friends went surely wrong with their compiz or beryl .. because I have never had any issues with my computers running ubuntu.
I have never tried any optimizations on linux.. because I use linux for work when I really need it but most of the time I'm running Vista and really love it so far (after a complete year of use).
I'm thinking about having a 4 OSes shift ... when I will have the shift I will start my project

Hi All, yesterday i install xp on my GF's eee900 using nLite, it's very fast and i am so impress. Now that is done and running super fast, i wonder if i could do the same for my shift, by using vLite to create a strip down version of vista and intall it from an external DVD drive.
Tne problem i could think of is drivers, do wehave the complete list of drives for vista? if so, i think it will be very possible, you get to disable all the service and microsoft cr*p that you don't want, which will speed up Shift a lot.
Let me know what you guys think.
I think the more techno savvy of this forum are working on this amongst other things. If HTC was to provide drivers for the hardware it would help, a lot...

After mounting the XVISTA.WIM inside the recovery partition, I can safely say, Vlite will not work with Shifts Vista.
However, I am currently working on a solution.
I will use a normal Vista Business to create a lite version of Vista and slipstream it into the recovery partition. I hope to shave off a few GB and get some resources free.
But it will take me a few days to get that done. Will keep you updated.
Awww cumon!!
You only have a hard working 800Mz proc!!!
Give it loads of extra file handling and say NITE NITE!!!
(Soz, alchohol moment...)
Do not expect this kit to do anything normally expected of a PC or good laptop, it is a slow UMPC as nothing better exists YET!!!!
I used to see this of people expecting to see a TyTynII act as a laptop!!
Please read the specs of the device and hope for a little more from XDA devs, but not miracles out of the box!!
dude, I play mkv files on it
of course, on win xp made using nlite, with carefull a codec and player selection. there are some of us that would try to get every mhz out of that processor, just for fun and proofs of concepts.
if it were possible i would put win98 on it, and have a boot time of 20sec . It would still offer more then a windows mobile environment.
its more about the size of the Vista installation.
Its easier for me to modify Vista then getting XP to work on this.
Besides, whats wrong with freeing up resources...doesnt cost anything and makes it more responsive.
so far, it runs really nice and quick.
Can even play some stuff on it (Ground Control)
anyway...as soon as its done, I will post the download link

EXCELLENT!
I just had a really crazy idea... no doubt I'm not the first but I havnt ready about this anywhere.
Before I go on I am NOT a programmer at all. I know nothing about that sort of thing but I was researching PCs thinking about buying a new computer and came across the HP TouchSmart PC. Basically you get a PC with a large touchscreen monitor and a full suite of aps modded to make it work well with touching the screen instead of using a mouse. Much like what we do with out phones.
Now, would it not be possible AND cool to just have a simple HTC Cube like program running on a standard PC. It would be really handy if you had a touch PC for sure but playing around on here and just using a mouse that in itself would be handy too. Being able to hold down say, the right finger mouse button and drag your mouse up quickly would bring up a cube like shortcut seen on the HTC Touch phones. Customizable of course so that it has shortcuts to whatever we would want. I can't imagine that this would be hard to do. Probably alot easier then it was to make Cube aps for other touchscreen phones. Swipping the mouse across the screen left or right could get you to other cube sides. Again, like on our phones.
This may seem completly assinine and useless but I just think it would be a cool little feature to have on a PC. I'm sure if someone who has knowledge of programming could make something like that. I dont know how difficult it would be but. Hey thats just my two cents.
I do realize that this thread isnt really about phones so it may be out of place, but the idea has come from our phones so I thought I would put it out and see what sort of responce I could get. See if anyone would be in fact interested in making something like this!
Aaron
Nice idea but i guess you're wrong here with the topic. You should ask in a PC Forum wether it's possible to do that
I understood it was the wrong forum. But seeing as pretty much anyone reading this thread would understand what the HTC Cube is, thought Id test the waters. I'm not a member or any PC Forums really either. Like I said I dont really know a thing about programming but I can assume that it's sort of like riding a bike. Whether that be a basic one speed bike compared to a 12 speed. As long as you understand the main principles (ie balance) you should be able to ride most anything. So from an ignorant understanding of programming.... well programming a application for a Windows based phone or Windows based PC would sort of be like.. comparing apples with apples no? Again.. please dont flame me here for my thoughts.. Like I said.. Ignorant understanding of the computer programming world!

Sorry: new software is this.
probably not helping when saying this, but the newer Ubuntu Linux distros come preinstalled with a program called Compiz-Fusion, which gives linux its cube effects. I dont know if XP or Vista has any programs out there. They probably do if you google it.
good luck to you!

Linux is the closest you will get. The XP software doesn't run nearly as well as linux because XP never really figured in workspaces where as it's completely integrated with managers like Gnome for linux. So the compiz fusion is the closest to a true cube you will get. Also, ubuntu is not the only linux distro with compiz. Any distro that can run gnome or KDE can run compiz; it's just a matter of with how much work.
To me the closest thing to a cube on the XDA phones is the cube animation in ultimate launch. But then again I love that program so I am biased
I did see that Linux based cube before but what that does is rotate to different desktops. I was thinking of a cube that is basically the same thing the HTC cube is... shortcuts. So pretty much similar to the start menu except it would be way more snazy looking and have 9 or however many shortcuts you wanted in it. 3 on each side.. you get the idea.

im thinking about switcing back to ubuntu as well, now that i know how to cook roms on it. ive also been looking at mandriva 2008.1 as well, and its easy support for wm6. ive also heard that it has the most stable compizfusion ever, which is a plus because compiz always crashes on my comp after a few days of usage.
anyway, i do believe that linuxis your best bet, althoug compiz-fusion is not very stable yet, so if you do make the switch to ubuntu, i would just make sure that you use the pre-installed effects to satisfy your needs, and not download a package caled compizconfig-settings or something like that.
as far as a shortct menu goes, im not aware of any, but i agree that it would be very convenient/cool for laptops with touchscreens...
Thanks...I'm fairly new to Linux so I'm sure there will be a slight learning curve.
u can use uBuntu (Linux)...I think it's the way, if u want to have the cube for ur dekstop...Or u can search only the transformations pack xp to ubuntu or vista to ubuntu...U can search by google...
The idea was to have a shortcut cube.... like the HTC Cube.... not a cube that rotates between different "desktops" like the linux one everyone here is discussing

I'll admit Ubuntu Linux took me a while to grasp. and with an older computer, I had to do a lot of research to get my wifi working, and the cube working as well. But now i use it almost all the time, only going back to XP on my dual-boot laptop to flash a new ROM or backup my contacts.
I've been wondering if i should check out Mandriva 2008 also. The downside of linux is that Windows Mobile is not heavily supported.

Hello,
Does anyone knows how to install Windows 7 on the HTC HD2?
I've seen it on You Tube
t seems to me that like Android it is possible to have Windows 7 running on a HTC HD2.
I'm very interested to have it running on mine HD2.
Would anyone help me with it?
Many thanks
that's remote desktop.
windows 7
why would you want to?
thats not remote desktop because in remote desktop you cant use it in letterbox orientation, and doesnt have any keyboard the movie its very buggy thats a sign of uncompatible graphic mode but if thats real its good to have it like ubuntu and android

There is landscape mode for remote desktop, you just have to flip it to landscape before you connect!
I can use the windows keyboard also.
Until WM7 is figured out it will be more locked down than WM6.5 meaning the opportunities to mod your phone to your liking with be less.
OK,
Thanks for your reply's
I wanted to use Windows 7 because I'll find it very easy to work with and I'm used to it
I tried a WAD-skin from Rajivshahi but the skin doesn't function very well on my device.
Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.
Maybe somebody knows something like Windows XP or Vista wich will work on the HTC HD2?
Are you serious?!?
Look at the specs needed to run Windows 7:
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit).
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit).
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.
Sure, we do have a 1HGz CPU, it's even 32bit! But it's NOT x86 or x64, it's a RISC processor using the ARMv7 instruction set.
Unless someone gets a hold of the sourcecode for Windows 7 and recompiles it for the ARMv7 instruction set, it won't be possible!
Even IF someone got the sourcecode, there are many things that should be adapted before porting Windows 7 to a mobile device like the HD2.
Oh, and then there's the RAM issue..
Sure, the HD2 has A LOT OF RAM compared to other Windows Mobile devices.. ..but it's still far away from 1 GB.
Which brings us to the next item on the list; "storage space"
In order to have 16GB, we need to use the Memory Card.
Sadly, the transfer speeds to and from the memory card is not as good as the ROM.
I don't have the speed figures right here, so I guess I can't argue that memory card speed isn't possible.
But I am 100% sure you'd need at least Class 6. (Those 16GB Class 6 cards are cheap, right?)
And at the end of the list; DirectX 9 graphics.
Thanks to one or more XDA members, we are slowly but steadily getting better #D hardware drivers.
Though we are not WDDM 1.0 compliant yet.
Probably never will be, as the hardware just isn't good enough.
You'll be happy to know, though, that we are able to emulate enough Intel CPU power to run Windows 95 on our devices!

I find it HIGHLY unlikely that his HD2 has THAT much storage space on either C: or D:

Hmmm, just curious as to why you'd want something like that in your pocket. Buy an HTC Shift or a TabletPC. It'd much easier for you & probably cheaper to put Windows 7 on if you consider all the Advil, Aleve, Tylenol & whatever other headache medicine you'll save on.
OK,
You've got me convinced.

Is there any working skin to do the job on a HD2.

If you have Win7 Home Premium, Home or Basic, you can't.
If you have Win7 Professional or Ultimate, then:
- Connect your HD2 to your Wifi network, then find the IP of the Win7 computer
- To find the IP on the Win7 computer;
click on Start
type ' command ' into the "Search Programs and Files" box
click on "Command Prompt"
type ' ipconfig ' into the black box that appears
press Return or Enter on your keyboard
in the list that comes up, look for "IP address" under the wireless adaptor, usually starts with 192.168
- Open Remote Desktop on your HD2
- Enter the IP address of your computer and try to connect.
- If it doesn't connect, try checking your firewall on your Win7 computer to make sure Remote Desktop is allowed.

Wow, you got Windows 7 on your HD2? Now that would be a development...
(Guess it´s Windows Phone 7, no?).
Concerning apps, I don´t understand what people want...
Is it the number of apps which stands for the quality of what you get? According to my personal experience and opinion, 95% of all apps in Apple´s app store are just crap, and Android? Well, quite a bit chaotic, and quite a lot of crap, too.
But then again, thanks to a huge devs community like you find it here at xda, Android has a massive number of small apps which are really following user requests. And not just farts and other useless joke apps.
lets be honest here.... the metro UI looks nice and all, but without a touch screen its completely out of place.. Keyboard and mouse interfaces have traditionally been vertical, you move through web pages vertically, you scroll through lists vertically, but metro UI is horizontal, scrolling down to turn right isn't quite intuitive....
and yea Ive done the "hack" to bring back the old start menu, but if you do that the metro UI kinda trips out plus thats the whole point of using windows 8 versus windows 7...
... worst thing was I deleted my Ubuntu partition to use it, but in a couple of days I think I'm gonna get the Ubuntu 11.10 beta 2 and delete windows 8
I totally agree..because what we expect from a PC is ease of access not the other way around...especially from keyboard and mouse they want us to use tiles
feels kinda stupid..the wrost case is search if I want to access a program is that really necessary for me to know which category it will falls in...its easy sometimes but not in the case of normal users....if MS really doesn't want to face the vista situation...they need to really think about the PC version of Win8....one more thing I want yo point out is that OS is really good for touchscreen capable devices but not for analog device operation....this is my opinion for the current developer built and not for win8 as a whole...
dats true tablet layout on PC is weird.
But win 8's performance is awesome.
maybe i'm just weird like that, but i kinda like the metro ui on my laptop/desktop setup. even though i don't have a touch-enabled screen, it didn't take me long to get used to using metro and make it work the way i like.
The live tiles and simplicity of it all are very nice, and dual booting Kubuntu was simple, I'm quite sure triple booting (Win7) would be a piece of cake as well. The desk top with the split screen is awesome! And a desktop is a desk top I don 't see the big deal here... Oh, this is a pre beta, I almost forgot. So let's see, New features, choices, smaller footprint, options, OH and Upgrade!?!? Can we try and see the cool part of it?
Waste of large application widget grids...

It's a dev preview. It's not even a beta. Anything can and will change. Don't base your opinions of W8 on this.
Damn. How do u get 500MB download speed? Why apple?
You are not forces to use Metro. The Classic desktop will be there too.
Will they be implementing Kinect to use with the new dashboard for those who dont have a touchscreen?
i love the boot's time of win8
I love everything about it. Smooth, fast, easy to use. Even Metro UI that will be lot better when we have apps for it. And sync! Seriously, Windows 8 is fine.
I didnt have any BSOD until now. Just some freezes in my Mac Mini (but my Dell is perfect), and I can blame Apple for that.
For those who hate Metro UI.. Stop complaining a little. You can use the default desktop as your main, and Metro UI just as a launcher of apps/programs. Whining wont make MS remove it. This is the future. If you think you'd do better, then try to be Microsoft's CEO.

lets be honest here.... the metro UI looks nice and all, but without a touch screen its completely out of place.. Keyboard and mouse interfaces have traditionally been vertical, you move through web pages vertically, you scroll through lists vertically, but metro UI is horizontal, scrolling down to turn right isn't quite intuitive....

I have to agree. I've been through the dev preview and I very much like the layout.. for a tablet. On a desktop however, it just seems wrong.

and yea Ive done the "hack" to bring back the old start menu, but if you do that the metro UI kinda trips out plus thats the whole point of using windows 8 versus windows 7...
... worst thing was I deleted my Ubuntu partition to use it, but in a couple of days I think I'm gonna get the Ubuntu 11.10 beta 2 and delete windows 8

Aside from Windows Mobile and Pocket PC, Microsoft has always kind of had horizontal interfaces(Windows Media Center, Live, Xbox 360, etc etc). But just to note, this preview isn't anything final or was made to be ran as a daily OS. The Metro UI is made for tablets, it most likely won't be incorporated in final desktop builds or if it is, it'll be more adjusted to the desktop environment. All this Preview was made to do, was introduce Metro UI and the tools to create apps to work with the Metro UI. Even though it's still heavily based on NT 6.1, so far Windows 8 uses less resources than what Windows 7 did in both beta and final builds thanks to some kernel differences as well as filesystem changes.
Looking at the past as well, the Windows 7 beta used more resources than Windows 7 final. Windows Vista used more resources than both. Windows XP was built in a different manor, so not really counting XP in this. So far, Windows Developer preview is using less resources than Windows 7 7601. If history repeats itself, Windows 8 final will use less resources than the betas, developer preview, and 7. And if rumors of registry being cut out in windows 8 final and apps that need the registry is being taken care of by Hyper-V support, then to me that makes Windows 8 x100 times better than previous Windows systems.
as far as I am concerned Windows 8 is just UI update for tablets or other devices that have touch screens and shouldn't be called windows 8 it should be windows 7.1 !
Check your machine configuration!!
Starting to like this
I have used every version of windows since 2.5 on 5.25 floppy disk's. It took alot of getting used to not having the start menu that we have been used to since 1995. But with that said once you start getting the navigation down pat it is alot faster at finding and running programs. Wait i have to be politically correct here APPS LOL. I boot up which is amazing and click the Firefox app and Bam i am on the internet kinda digging it. The only thing that i have an issue with is None of the preinstalled apps work trust me im on a dell xps15 and my screen resolution is good enough. gonna try a reinstall with a fresh wipe to see if that clears it up. other than that i'm happy.

yes they will incorporate it in final pcs...
however I actually have enjoyed metro ui and it actually functions pretty darn well on a desktop pc
There are some things I hope will be changed (mouse simulating touch input for instance which can alleviate a lot of transition issues) but otherwise I have a really good experience of it
Hello i collect old phones like htc advantage and other winmo and nokia devices.
But the shift is still kinda expensive.
I have an oppurtunity to buy one for 100 euro.
Point is i like to play with those devices alot.
At the moment i am trying to get truevga and mods on the advantage.
But is the Shift still capable?
I mean 800mHz is quite underpowered. Will it play youtube at lets say 720p fullscreen?
I understand it isnt capable of full hd streamin.
And what about games.
i like to play older games anything from need for speed (up till underground so 1-6)
And emulators? especially n64 because its the heaviest one i am planning to use.
Its quite alot of money for such old device and on ebay i didnt find anything to compare the price with
so valuewise is it worth it? 100euro is like 115 dollar with todays course.
the device itself is practically unused but comes formatted so i have to install windows.
I do this alot on laptops and pcs. and i am also no stranger in flashing winmo and android so i dont expect to run into any problems if there is still support and i can find drivers and stufff
I hope some of my questions can be answered.
wow its really a low activity device
no one got any tips?
100 Euro is quite a good price. On eBay it's usually much more expensive.
One thing you have to keep in mind is the RAM size- you'll have to get a
214 pin 2GB to make Shift run nearly satisfying.
Like this one:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/2GB-DDR2-214...y-HTC-SHIFT-/190400263728?hash=item2c54bd7630
Unfortunately i have never found a 4GB RAM version.
Thx for reply
thats quite expensive for 2gb ram...
So can it run youtube...
i havent decided yet if i am gonna do it or not
it includes a dmg 01 gameboy.. so it makes it kinda tempting
i already have a broad collection of phones en pre tablet tablets
i will reply when i get it.
sooo i bought it.
Really nice device
didnt came with windows though
so i installed windows 7.
got the drivers working even with 5 year old threads here with dead links
Touchscreen is working
but wifi isnt. So i think the wifi was switched off in vista...
thats not my big issue it wasnt my plaaning to use the wifi because of the performance of this device.
So i will check that some other time.
What i do want to have solved is a bigger problem. I m trying to install some light games en emulators on there.
First up N64. Runs windowed. not great but playable but when i try to go fullscreen i get BSOD. 2times in a row and then windows wouldnt start so i had to run the startup repair. Now its working again. Just not in fullscreen...
Other problem is with retro city rampage this game isnt even 3d.
it seems to start but the moment it switches to fullscreen i get the BSOD instantly...
Is this a driver problem? i recall i have read somewhere that u shoudlnt update the intel gma driver but i could not find this post. and i dont know if i have done this or not i would need version numbers...
Maybe im 2years late ;P but i hope someone will know the answer.
in the meantime i have a GB DMG01 to play with and mod.
Is it such a legacy device that no one uses it anymore?
I have a Shift and I found Vista to be unusable compared to Ubuntu Hardy (8.04). I've heard better things about Win7 and even Win10, but at the end of the day, the machine has its hardware limits and at least for me, that precluded even Vista.
Hardy , through pof's magic, allows everything to run, even the 3G (if you have the SIM), and it's quite zippy. I don't game, but perhaps ubuntu (circa 2008) has enough games available. Of course, you could run Wine, but that can be a can of worms for certain MS software.
Though I run MS Word 97, HanDBase, and a couple of other MS apps without problem in Hardy.
Prolly best to stay away from heavy graphics. Maybe Leisure Suit Larry
Jake
I fixed the BSOD problem by reinstalling windows 7 and NOT installed the gpu driver update.
It runs like a breeze
GTA3 and vice city i can play on low settings but no lagg at al!
And the n64 emulator i get 60fps in fullscreen.
I would recommmend 7 to anyone with this device.
Only the wifi is not working because it was turned off in vista and i read its a hell of alot of work to turn it on without vista.
problem is i bought it without windows so i couldnt turn it on.
But its better for me saves alot off battery
This is pof's htc shift panel for Windows that controls wifi/bt/etc. I don't know if it works in Win7, but you can research to see if it's what you want before actually trying it out.

Jake
Hey man thx for the tip
will try this when i get home from work.
ill report later
Ok wow
i need some program called cygwin
if i try to open it i get cygwin1.dll is missing
so im working on it
i found the program wil install it tonite and report back
Excellent. I'll be glad to hear that it works.
Jake
Hmm cygwin installed without any problems.
But now it asks for cygioperm-0.dll when i try to launch it.
i need to install ioperm says the readme but it seems i cant find it...
This is some kind of addon right?
Huh, dunno what those files are. Here are the Vista drivers, etc:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BzqfCViUrpr6UkVkY2lTLUIxSGs&usp=sharing
For Vista, the shagctrl program does wifi/bt/etc. you could try installing that and see if that gives you the missing .dlls/etc. It may run on its own, I just don't know. I have Vista on a partition, the shagctrl works, but I never use Vista/Windows.
Jake
shagctrl doesnt work in windows 7
only for resolution siwtch.
i got the hsect from this google drive page u gave me.
its same same download i found.
but this is in the readme.

============================================
To build from source:
LINUX with GTK libraries:
# make gtk
LINUX without GTK libraries:
# make nogtk
WINDOWS with GTK libraries:
# make win32gtk
WINDOWS without GTK libraries:
# make win32
WINDOWS NOTES:
The windows version needs CYGWIN (http://cygwin.com) with "ioperm" support.
Open a cygwin shell and run "ioperm -i" to install the ioperm.sys driver.
when i type ioperm-i it doesnt recognize it as a legal command...
i am gonna try it tonite if i connect it to the internet with cable.
But otherwise i think i skipped a step somewhere.... will let u know.
I just run windows for the games.
its a pretty capable device for its specs.
GTA3 without problems.
Carmageddon tdr 2000
n64
all runs perfect
If you can't rebuild it, I suppose you could get a Hardy 8.04.1 (no higher) livecd, repartition and dual boot with Hardy (with pof's shagctrl) and Windows.
I don't believe you can install pof's shag with a livecd only (pof calls for a reboot), though MAYBE, you could install shag and only switch on wifi/bt without a reboot, I dunno.
Hardy is certainly snappier than Windows, but your needs don't seem to match what Hardy can do. Though dual booting is always cool.
Jake
Haha XD that is an option indeed.
But if i switch wifi on once i wouldnt be able to turn it off in windows right?
I want to preserve battery power whenever is necessary.
When i installed cygwin i noticed i could choose any packages and addons tobe installed
maybe i reinstall cygwin first and i can find this ioperm addon
Once wifi was turned on, I think you could disable its driver in Windows in the systray.
Ok i wil look into that.
First i keep trying to find ioperm for cygwin and how to add it
now when i open hsect it says cygwinioperm1.dll missing not exactly but close.
I dont get the option when i reintall cygwin. Also there isnt really a uninstall button... not in control panel not in the root folder.
