Lol. No they are not going to release 6.1 using the WM update.
They never released an update using the WM update.
Updates are available through the manufacturer of the device (in this case HTC)
They have the possibility to give us an update, but that don't have to do this if they don't want this

Windows Mobile 7 will do updates
WinMo 7 will do real updates via "automatic updates"
I think WinMo6 has it in there as some sort of test. I'm sure they count
the number of times the update.winmo site has been accessed from a device.
You can also be sure they datamine the country, model, device etc..
Nothing wrong there. Would like to see some real updates tho'
Keep clicking the icon maybe they'll release something to keep us quiet.

ZUNE UI for WinMo 6.1

would it be technically possible to run the zune interface for everything that is music/media on windows mobile?
Hmm, I guess just like a skin or a separate application... Tho both are made by M$
Well.. they both run on CE5 unless im mistaken.. So, might be able to do it somehow.
wisbar desktop?
what the OP is asking about is if its possible to port the zune OS over to a windows mobile application. i am nowhere near dev status but i could be possible assuming that the zune OS is based on win CE like windows mobile but i'm not sure how hard it would really be though.
i would love to see this too honestly but i think that something like this would have to come directly from microsoft since a project like that is probably of a questionable legal status.

Seriously?? We need a ROM dump like... NOW. How would that happen?
I think a ROM dump would hardly work on any device...Maybe its kind of locked too. I think the best thing would be to take S2P source code and start a new project "WM_Zune" or so.
Otherwise, if A_C wont release the sourcecode, there would be enough talented people here to to a proper Zune-like app.

Martin
Well if "Zune" is just a program running on WinMob5, than if we got our hands on it, what would stop xda from cabbing it up like so many other "locked" devices?
http://www.zuneboards.com/microsoft-news/the-pink-and-purple-project.html
sounds like something fresh and new.. like zune is cool too.. not onli the ipod.. being a wm user we should support this idea..
Hi, see if this is any use to you while you wait for the actual application to be ported:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335927
i guess i wont have to work on it since microsoft is doin it anyway...

Zune on WinMo 6.1
Here is another article about Zune porting to WinMo6.1 and other mobile device:

I hope it doesn't slow the device down to a crawl. WMP bogs down my Mogul.

Windows update

Hello, has anyone ever got a "windows update" from the option in System Settings?
ive tried loads of times but no update?
Paul.
No, never worked ???
Nope, never had one. Think this is overlooked by MS
Ok not just me then, cheers fellas
Paul.
I wish we didn't wait for the PDA developers to install updates. I wish it was like a normal PC. I wish I could just download an OS from Microsoft an install it to my PDA and download drivers from HTC's web site...

update
Here are some quotes from WindowsMobile team about this topic:
"As I mentioned in my responses to the previous posts, the update capability is something we are continuing to work on, and our licensing restrictions do not permit us to distribute software directly to end-users. The Windows Update for Windows Mobile capability is designed to deliver critical fixes, which we have not had the need to use yet thankfully!"

Windows Mobile Update on the HD2?

Perhaps I'm being a penis but can you update the HD2 like a desktop edition of windows i.e. vista / 7 on the flyi.e. over 3G/wifi or are any updates only via Sync?
What is this, I don't even
Windows 6.1 had an update option in the start menu, and that used a data connection/wi-fi - whatever was available. I suppose you could download updates and do it via the usb cable. Anyway, if this option still exists in 6.5, I've not seen it anywhere.
This is probably all moot anyway. I don't think Microsoft bother making updates for windows mobile. That's what xda devs is for
Thanks - I guessed there are very few updates for Winmo just an idea

And where would chefs here on xda get those updates if MS didn't make them? Of course they make updates (called Adaptation Kit Upgrades, referred to as AKU usually), they just don't distribute them to end users. There's a big difference between WM and your desktop system, for major updates on your phone you'll usually have to reflash the whole ROM image. And that ROM image is made by the OEM, not Microsoft, and includes tons of OEM software and drivers. This software can even break with a new update, so pushing OS changes directly could cause lots of problems. So the only safe way to have updates would be from the OEM (HTC in our case). Or we can get them unofficially here.
The Windows Update applet in earlier versions of WM had only minor updates such as daylight time database changes and so on, so I guess it was rarely used by anyone.
Thanks for the Info - I get the drift

Mango update

when will Mango update become available for dell venue pro? I have been keep checking for last 10 days, no update.
anybody got the update?
www.wpcentral.com/force-mango-update-early-through-zune-software
it worked. now in zune, it says current software version. 7.10(7720)
it that mango upate? should it say 7.5? what is correct build for mango?
Yes - that's the correct version number for Mango. If you look further up in 'phone information', it will say "Software: Windows Phone 7.5".
I think it's just the way Microsoft does numbering. Windows 7 (desktop) was internally version 6.1
finally got mango.
I don't see any huge change in overall visual style. biggest change I see in first impression is app list now come on alphabetically, messaging listed in thread with different colors.
still looking through the features.

[Q] Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.5 on my Android 2.2 device

Dear,
As the title itself states..
My mobile is:-
Mobile: Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0
OS: Android 2.2 Froyo
I had an HTC TyTN 2 once; I flashed it using a Windows Mobile 6.0 ROM from this website few years back. It worked quite cool..
To be honest I just love the Windows Mobile interface and the way it operates.. I mean it really looks like one is using a "WINDOWS" mobile.
I just love the way it looked..
Now as time passed. I switched to a latest phone which is operated by Android rather than Windows Mobile.
Now my question is that I know it is impossible to delete my Android 2.2 and Install Windows Mobile 6.0; But is it somehow possible to install Windows Mobile alongside with my Android 2.2 working the way it is working.. You know multi booting like if someone have installed Windows 7 and Windows XP on their computer.. They can launch the one they wish... or sometimes using some software they can launch the Windows XP while Windows 7 is running.
It is possible to get something similar to my device???
Thank you
Faisal.
You can always buy a HD2 off ebay since it was the last phone with Windows mobile and is still in development since it can run Android, WP7 or linux and recently Cotulla showed off his one running WP8 and windows RT

Any chance to give better hardware (better than HTC HD2) to Windows Mobile 6.5? Maybe something like NativeSD WM6?
There`s so much valuable old WM software still in use.

He has a Galaxy Tab, not a phone. He should just get an Acer W500 or an HP Slate which both run full Windows.
