Recently I noticed, that when I'm far away from the city,
I've no "E" (which means, EDGE) icon at the top, I see only "G" (which means, GPRS).
So my Sable's GSM function works excelent, but when I come back to town, "E" icon appears, and phone stops working.
Can someone tell me, how to turn off "EDGE" completely ?

i travel by nyc subway train everyday and i noticed that it takes a while for my Jam to reconnect to my carrier network (t-mobile USA) when i come back out of the station.
i typically enter the subway with an established carrier connection (both active gprs and in-active voice) and the phone goes into seach mode (i guess) because the antenna icon shows the dots expanding out and the gprs shows two large arrows pointing in opposite directions without the little "g"). when i come out of the subway, it stays in search mode for at least 5 - 10 minutes until it reconects to t-mobile. if i turn the radio off and on quickly (put it into and out of flight mode), it re-connects right away.
does anyone know if this is normal? regardless, is there anyway to make the Jam reconnect faster?
thanks,
-C
after updating my jamin with the latest rom the network icon now shows "E" instead of "G" although I dont have EDGE technology and I use GPRS. I successfully made a GPRS connection and after disconnecting it shows "G" for a while then turns back to "E"!!!! anyone experience the same problem!?
this is not a problem. If your network is able to work with Edge, it will appear "E" and than when you connect it will appera "G" (because your device donĀ“t have EDGE). This icon it represents what your network is able to offer.
the problem is; I KNOW THAT MY PROVIDER DOESNT HAVE EDGE!!!

who is your provider? as far as i know all providers in the use who is capable of using this phone on thier network is edge capable. outside of the small mom and pops. cingular/tmobile/cellularone are all edge capable.
sorry just read this thread over at hf.
I've had this . It momenterily shows the E and then reverts back to G. I am with Orange UK and I am in a Strong 3G network cell. I know that Orange are suposed to running edge out to areas with no 3G but not sure when.
I can only assume that it is picking up an edge signal from somewhere. To tell you the truth I wish I saw the E all the time . That would at least give me edge speeds .
This is defo a problem (Well doesn't hinder the phone). I was using my Jamin with copilot which was connected the whole time to Copilot Live via a GPRS connection. If I come out of the copilot screen and initiat a call the G symbol changes to an E . It then reverts back to a G when the call finishes.
Maybe your provider is doing some EDGE testing?
Here we go. I will try and explain this.....
My phone works great at home and around town. Always has the G icon next to the signal bars.
When I go to work it works great for about 5 minutes. Then the G Switches to a E icon and the phone will no make or receive calls or text or anything.
Weird thing is it still shows good signal, just wont do anything. If I shut the phone off and turn it back on, the G will be back and it will work fine. Then a couple minutes later it will switch to a E and quits again.
Now, im pretty sure im not in a area with Edge access, and connect on the 850 band. Im pretty sure im in a partner network of att, but am not roaming
Any idea WTF is going on or if I can fix it.
Thanks
Jeremy
if it does roam to a network which support edge
you can change to to use 1 spc network in phone settings
to avoid roaming
I've looked extensively on this site for the answer to my issue so I apologize if it's already been covered. I have an Xperia X1i on the AT&T network using one of the numerous custom ROMs on this fine site. As I understand it, I am not getting 3G capability on my cell phone. However, I've read conflicting things on this very site about that. I apologize for the length of this description, but I want you all to have a full understanding of my issue as to minimiZe the back and forth. Here is my problem: When I'm at work on the 12th floor I get a block H (presumably the data indicator) and a smaller H (presumably the reception indicator?) with one or two bars beneath in the black area at the top of the screen (where all the icons and time are located). Most the time it is one bar, but occasionally I'll get two. It, from time to time, randomly switches to an E indicator (on both the block and the reception indictor with the bars and I'll get upwards of 4 bars) or a 3G indicator (again, on both the block and the reception indicator with 2 or 3 bars). On rare occasions I'll get the G indicator, but it doesn't last long. Whenever I receive a call and the H indicator is on it immediately hangs up after I push the button which accepts the call. This happens all the time. If the 3G indicator is on I'll be able to speak for 3 seconds before it the call is summarily dropped without warning. If the E indicator is on, then the vast majority of the time I'll be able to conduct a call just fine. I don't recall ever having a call with with the G indicator. Obviously, this is unacceptable. How do I turn off the H and 3G at work and still maintain the E for both voice and data while I'm at work? I've tried disabling the HSDPA/HSUPA capability through the Connection/Advanced Network tab. After a soft reset the phone settles onto a tenuous 3g that drops after a call after a few seconds (the situation I described above). Is there a way to just have Edge for voice and data for when I'm at work through some setting/software or do I just have to get another phone? If anyone knows a reasonable solution to this, I'd be really grateful for the assistance. Thanks. Bye!
May not be the best option, but if you go to:
Start
settings
connections
Advanced network
You should be able to change the option in the HSDPA/HSUPA to disable.
This will stop the H and G icons in the toolbar and should allow you to connect to your edge network.
Alternatively you could look at getting an X1a for US networks.
try this: phone>settings>band>select your network type>gsm. Soft reset. Well...?

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion, but in my description I had noted that I have already tried this and it only turned off the HSDPA/HSUPA and not the 3G.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. This seems to have done the trick. I'm cautiously optimistic and I'll update tomorrow since this will require further test. Again, thanks a million! Bye!

Hi,
Just wanted to update you on your proposed solution. It seems to work great. I've had Edge for the balance of yesterday after I tried your suggestion and this morning I switched the band to GSM again and it's kept that setting. Thank you for your prompt solution to my irritating problem. Bye!
Maybe a time controlled 3G activation/deactivation would be a good solution?

im sure this usd to work, but recently ive noticed it doesnt. when im in a call, my data connection disconnects. normally this isnt a problem, but sometimes i will want to look something up on the internet while in a call. like i said, im sure this used to work, but now it doesnt. im on t-mobile UK with an unlimited data plan, i have a near full HSDPA signal. im running the CleanEX DsE v15 ROM with Radio 2.11.
any thoughts
should work on 3g, not on edge or gprs
don't be confused by the left hand network symbol showing an H, that's just what your network is offering. the signal bars icon must also be showing H
i have a H as the left hand icon, and a little h above the signal bars. when i start a call, the smaller h changes to a picture of a phone. if i try and use any web features it just times out. when i hang up the call, my data connection seems to have been disconnected, as it shows a T shape above the signal bars, then changes back to the H after a few seconds
