My wife uses her T-Mobile MDA (Wizard) to sync with her computer at at work. She also uses a proxy method to access the internet (on the go). Her job uses proxy settings and when she connects, it overwrites the proxy settings that she uses to access the internet when she's not connected to the computer. So basically, we have to put the proxy and modem settings in everytime she disconnects from active stink. Didn't have this problem until her job changed buildings and internet settings.
Is there any way to keep the settings from being overwritten? I've tried adding a second set of proxy settings with the same info having both the work proxy and the T-Mobile proxy. But what ever settings the phone is on, the work proxy will overwrite them with it's own. My wife uses her MDA to sync with her computer at at work.
"Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop" is not checked. Checked that, and it still overwrites the settings. Very frustrating! How do you manage multiple proxy settings?

I have an 8125 and access the internet in 3 different ways:
1: work uses a proxy for their secure wi-fi network
2: Cingular uses proxy for gprs
3: Home wi-fi network doesn't have a proxy
Can someone tell me how I can easily switch between these networks without having to change the connections settings? Is there a program that can be downloaded to help with the changes?
Thanks!
I also have a 8125. I have the proxy network settings under the "Work Network" settings, and the non-proxy under the "My ISP" settings. When I want to use WiFi or non-proxy, the 8125 will just automatically connect OK. When I need to use the proxy, I start IE and go to wsp://device.home and that forces it to connect to the Work Network.
I have a WM5 device (HTC Wizard) and have the following situation:
My "Home" connection uses a proxy to connect to the internet over GPRS (from phone company) -- this works fine.
My "Work" connection uses a different proxy to connect to the internet over wifi (from my work) -- this works fine.
If I want to connect to a third network (my home wifi connection, an internet cafe) that doesn't use a proxy (or uses a different proxy) I need to modify the "Home" connection to remove the phone company proxy settings -- then this works fine. But when I want to get back on my GPRS connection, I need to go modify the proxy configuration again to put the settings back in.
Is there an easier way to move between >2 proxy configurations than setting/clearing/modifying the proxy configuration every time I move between networks? I'm looking for solutions native in the device - I'm sure there are hacks like setting up my own proxy and screwing with the forwarding rules to identify "phone is on WLAN, go directly to internet" vs. "phone is connecting from GPRS, chain through phone company proxy" which will cause me about as many headaches as just manually entering the information. Thanks in advance for any replies.
easist way is to set up a third connection with no proxy....
Have you actually tried doing this? WM5 supports two connections - one for automatic connections (which by default it calls "Home"), one for VPN (which by default it calls "Work"). I could create another network connection profile, but that trade-off is between a) reconfiguring the single network connection profile that my "Home" connection uses (via my provider's proxy or not) for b) reconfiguring which of two network connections the "Home" network connection selects. I don't want another bunch of clicks to jump through as I move from network to network, I want it to Just Work. I'd like the decision tree to go:
if (secured resource)
..use VPN ("Work")
else
..if (preferred network available)
....// this would be my 802.11 nets
....// each of which may have proxy information associated with it
....use that network (afaict, NYI)
..else
....use GPRS ("Home")
But it appears to be:
if (secured resource)
..use VPN ("Work")
else
..use GPRS ("Home")
A bit of an ugly workaround would be to use Opera Mobile - you can manually specify HTTP and/or HTTPS proxies in its own Preferences, as well as any proxy info you might have set up in your work profile.
As of yet, I've not found a way to have more than one proxied profile preconfigured, which is annoying as different buildings in my Uni use different wifi networks with their own proxies and ports typical.
i have an i-mate Jasjar wm5, I am using USB activesync cable to connect my device to my desktop PC. I would like to access the internet using LAN-DSL in my office.
Any idea or suggestions on how to do it?
Suggestions, insights, or any kind of guidance is highly appreciated.
unless you have set it to block it
then your device connected to activesync will allways have the same
lan network access as the pc
you prob have to change connection in settings->connection->connection advantage and pick mynetwork rather then my isp

thanks for the quick reply. activesync (v4.5) is on the exceptions list of windows firewall, hence it is not blocked.
My Work Network connection settings (modem and VPN) is empty. do we have to input any settings on them (modem and/or VPN)? On the proxy settings - I checked the box for 'This network connects to the Internet', I did several tests on unchecking/checking the box on 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet' - tried both IP of my desktop PC (192.168.1.12) and default gateway (192.168.1.1) on ports 8080, 80. I noticed though - the box for 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet' - always goes unchecked everytime I go back to check the settings.
i did several test settings, but it doesn't worked either. always it says 'This page cannot be displayed, connection was lost check settings'
any idea on these? thanks for your time
guess you could try changing the dns to what the pc is using
and try with other applciations like the network tools ping
and messenger to see if it's a IE issue
I also want to connect to internet through activesync 4.5 usb
hi, i have the same problem, i want to connect to internet through activesync 4.5 and wm5 herms. i am not good a computer use so could you please guide me step by step. i can synchronize but can't use internet.
if its through the office network, you may need to play with some settings to "fool" the office network to let you out.
The way to check what im talking about is to download http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_firefox/ portable firefox, and see if it connects by default. In my office, i had to input the LAN proxy settings into firefox to make it work. If this is the same for you, then i guess you'll have to do the same on the PPC. If you do find that this is the problem, and you cannot connect with firefox, post back and ill see if i can help
Turn off "Advanced Features"

There's a setting in ActiveSync "Advanced" and uncheck the box. See if that helps. It apparently has helped others with USB connection issues.
rightclick on ActiveSync icon on systemtray --> connection settings... ---> config as my pic you can access internet thought your PC. If you still can't connect to internet please hardreset your PDA
I have a problem of setting up http proxy server for my wireless connection.
What I have done is:
1. in settings -> connections
automatically connecting to internet by using: My ISP
automatically connecting to private network by using: My Work Network.
2. In My Work Network -> proxy settings
ticks, this network connects to internet
ticks, this network use a proxy server to connect to internet.
advanced:
HTTP: proxy.proxy.proxy: 8080
3. Set my wireless connection connect to Work network.
However, after the wireless was enabled, my proxy setting alway vanished away, like I haven't setup any proxy setting at all.
If I want to try to re-set my proxy server again in My Work Network. It will vanished away when I back to setting panel.
But if I disable the wireless connection, then my proxy setting can stay there. If my wireless turned on again, my proxy setting would gone immdiately.
Do you know what's wrong?

Go to MediaNet, tap proxy settings. check the top box; uncheck the lower box, then go back to ISP.
My wife is using a T-Mobile MDA at work and her job uses proxy to get network access for their desktop computers. We're using T-Mob web plan (T-Zones) and use a proxy setting to access to the internet. But when she connects her phone to her desktop, it changes her current connection to the companies proxy and port info. She really doesn't need to access the internet while connected to ActiveSync, so how do I keep ActiveSync from changing the proxy settings? Or is there a way to have both proxy settings and switch automatically? It seems like Active sync will change the proxy info of whatever connection is set in the phone when connecting. Any advice would be appreciated.

i think you need to have one setting only!
you can try to disable the advanced network connectivity for the active sync at work! go active sync - file - (make the following settings)
this computer is connected to - work network
uncheck the two boxes below
that what i do for my work computer - hope this useful
best wishes
Thanks... I had the same problem with my HD2 but your tipp is working for me... nevertheless, as long as my ohone is connected via USB to my work computer the GPRS connection is down, so I can't receive mails or surfe the internet with my phone and its normal GPRS connection - any ideas how to do something about this?
I use my ActiveSync at work to synch the Outlook calender entries but also to charge the batterie at the same time. Until I used your settings I had to modify the proxy settings (delete proxy) every time I disconnected the HD2 from the PC. Now that this is solved I would like to use the time having my phone connected to the PC to use the internet as well - as it is working when it's only connected in harddisk mode...
Thanks in advance!
