Help/suggestion required: GPS not receiving anymore - P3600 General

Hi all,
tried to search, but couldn't find similar issue.
My trinity gps stopped working, after falling on the floor.
Had no problem before this, since the GPS is found on COM9, but cannot fix.
Message
"No GPS signal available"
appears when running Tomtom (as when waiting for fix).
Tried to reboot, reinstalled ROM and Radio (1.46.00.11), but still non success.
Any suggestions, please ? Any connector I should give a look at?
Feeling very sad, any help really appreciated
Thanks

GPS connection keeps dropping

I'm having big problems when I try to connect to GPS with my HD. It connects for a moment, then disconnects for 10-15 seconds, then reconnects, then drops again etc.
It's most obvious in Tomtom, because that's so reliant on a GPS connection, and it's clear when there's a problem. TT starts saying "no GPS device" for a few seconds - fine, it's always done that as it connects to it for the first time.
But then it says "waiting for a valid GPS signal", again not unusual. When it DOES get a signal it connects, then loses it moments later saying "no GPS device", and it keeps repeating these last two steps.
Curiously it doesn't say "no GPS device" (past the initial instance) until it first gets a signal - ie, it can sit indoors all day and not moan about "no GPS device".
Other apps have the same problem - Google maps, Everytrail, BeelineGPS. They're all using the default/auto config with the internal GPS chip.
It's almost as if (and this is a guess) the GPS driver is sending out bad satellite data that's confusing any software that tries to connect to it.
Finally, I did a hard reset last night and installed just the bare minimum today in case something was messing about but it's still doing it. So do I have a dodgy unit or is this a known problem?
(I have a new Touch HD that replaces my Vario 3 so I'm pretty familiar with the setup.)
Thanks
Mark
Probably having A-GPS on is causing the problem.
Turn it off via HDTweak or AdvancedConfig.
Thanks Psygnosis84
I tried that and just went for a short walk and it didn't drop it then so that might have fixed it. Will confirm properly when I drive later.
Yes it seems that was the issue. Thanks for the help.
Hopefully this will help someone else in future!

I also encountered this problem but I found it was cured by quitting TomTom and refreshing QuickGPS. Restarting TomTom showed the problem was cured.

Losing GPS Signal

Hi
I use my 3G with Tom Tom maps and the internal GPS. Always worked ok but about 2 days ago it started only connecting for about 10 seconds or not even finding a GPS signal at all. It seems to find the internal GPS unit but then can't find any signals. Have tried it with an 'external' GPS unit and it works fine.
(I tried Orange support and they said it was my GPRS settings !!!!! - at that point after spending 5 mins on the phone I gave up !!)
Any help appreciated
Have you tried using updating the QuickGPS program?
Hi
Yes - it didn't make any difference however
Thanks
Petez1 there a lotsa options, you did try a soft reset i assume, but you can also:
- check if AGPS (assisted GPS) is active on your phone, if so...disable it.
- use the HTC GPS tool to check your GPS status
- re install TT Navigator, and maybe try another version
- in TT Navigator you can either choose 'build in GPS' or 'Other NMEA GPS', both should work, play around a bit....see if it solves your problem.
Last but not least you could give your Jade a hard reset (whipes all the information on your phone, bringing it back to factory state).
Anyways, i sometimes have the same problem as you, esp when i've used the GPS in another application then TT Navigator (GoogleMaps or Footprints). In my case a soft reset solves it.
Put the bold words i used in the excellent Google search function of this forum and you'll find lotsa information.
Hi
Thanks - I checked all these and did a hard reset but still didn't work. I am getting a replacement from Orange
Grateful for your advice
Thanks
YvW...and i'm glad Orange gives you a replacement, cuz when you've tried everything with no solution at all it's probably a hardware issue.

[Q] GPS doesn't work anymore

Hello androids,
I'm another n00b trying to kill my phone
I tried to flash some roms from this forum for my Tattoo, with different versions of OS (1.6, 2.1, 2.2). My preferences goes to Pancake 1.0.6; anyway I tried to see if all works and I get stuck with the GPS:
when I turn it on and start a navigator like NDrive or Navigon, they says "No GPS".
If I quit these programs, switch of the GPS from my tattoo and restart one of these programs (of course I tried one by one) they let my switch on the GPS receiver. Then back to the navigator, it tries to reach some satellite without an end. Also, there's no GPS icon in the topbar when the navigator, or another program that uses the GPS receiver, is working.
So I tried to switch back to a backup of my original rom without success. I also tried to flash another rom with 1.6 version like the original one, but without good results.
Can someone help me?
Yeaaah!
I've made a flash with the original rom for the HTC Tattoo and now it works!
Ok, let's retry some custom roms

Good evening,
I have the same problem.
I've switched back to the original rom but nothing work.
The GPS seems on but no application can use it.
Please help us .
Thank you.
I guess this is a very common problem on tattoo. My phone sometimes connects to satelites but sometimes not.I have tryed severals programs like GPS STATUS which show that there are satelites in view , but the programs just don't connect to them.Any solution ?
The Tattoo always needs a lot of time for connecting to satellites. If your inside a building it probably never will. So maybe that's the simple solution. Just go outside where it's got better connection.

My Tattoo needs less then 1 or 2 minute to connect to satellites, but now never. I've tested that the only ROM that is able to connect to satellite is the SP-Froyo AOSP. I've tried lot of ROM, my original nand backup, other 1.6, 1.6 SenseUI, 2.1, 2.2 but nothing to do. The only one is the SP-Froyo AOSP. Anyone can help us with this issue??? Lot of thank in advance.
You may try Ndrive 10 it is the only program that runs smoothly for me and connects to satelites even from my room.

[Q] Spica GPS problems

Hi all,
I am trying to find out how widespread the GPS locking problems are with this model. I am talking about non-assisted GPS, which can be tested using the "GPS Test" application on the market.
So, how is the GPS on your phone performing using GPS Test? Please give some detailed information like lock time, number of sattelites, urban/countryside location, and if possible firmware version of your phone.
---
My Spica cannot get a lock at all, will see up to 11 satellites but most of them with signal strength bars at zero. Firmware versions tested (all same result)
1.5 (XEJB2)
2.1 (XXJD1, XXJD4, XXJF2, XXJC3)
Same pb with my wife's spica. Samdroid version with FE7.
Can't lock withour assistance. What a pitty.
Go to your Settings -> Date & Time -> Uncheck Automatic and see if it helps
Or you can try this (need root)
http://forum.samdroid.net/f38/gps-speedup-1262/
http://forum.samdroid.net/f10/fasterfix-1747/ <-- same but easier
i can get a fix under 2 minutes if I stay still...moving, it can take an eternity

i just don't bother with that any more...I might do it again after a month without wiping any data
rooting is like breathing to me ... as it would be to most of the people here
Anyone found a solution yet?
My spica wont connect via gps either. It just keeps blinking and nothing happens...not even after 30min.
I've tried GPStest and it reports that 12 satellites are in view but non in use, and there is no bars everything is at 0...not picking any signal at all :S
I tried my friend's one too and he gets a signal imediatley and a lock after about 10-30seconds.
Any solution to this? Is it a software problem or hardware problem?

I installed the alpha CyanogenMod 2.2 and GPS is working like a charm!
Problem was with the wrong libraries being used in many of the custom roms found at SamdroidMod. Devs found out about this issue and fixed it in this 2.2 release.
I'm running original firmwire which i got on the phone. (XXJE4)
I'm not willing to install alpha cyanogen of froyo yet...Is there really no other solution? I've had a chance to compare my spica to another one with original firmwire (JE4 too) ant that other spica worked while my gps had no lock. Also i had the chance to try one with samdroid on and it worked too.
Mine works from time to time. at the moment it works, earlier today it wouldn't get a lock no matter how long i waited.
First thing-delete /data/xtra.bin- this is data for agps which seems to cause gps locking problem. You can do it with RootExplorer/SUFBS or any file manager with root rights. Or use GPS Status and Reset agps data from setting. You can also try to swap libsec-ril.so, JF2 version works best for me. If you want I can provide update packages for libsec-ril.so
i have installed cyanogenmod 7.1 on mine, and can get a lock under 1min30s outside or under 3min in the bus near the window.
I have a rooted spica with android version: 2.2.2, baseband version: i570EXXJC1, kernel version:2.6.29 and Mod version:SamdroidMod-2.2.2-a9.
When I go to google maps app and click set location I always get an error saying: location temporary unavailable ! I checked the option on Settings->Location and security->Use wireless networks and use GPS satellites. And my phone is connected to the internet.
I just bought the phone last week, and its really embarrassing not getting this to work.

thanks for the useful info, you saved my life by this post.
i thought my gps is wrong in my spica then it was just a bug in the cooked rom. cyanogen mod is cool and gps is working now perfectly.
thanks again!
With spicagenmod + hp/yonip kernel gps work very well.

GPS still doesn't work? Try this.

Greetings all!
Ever since updating from 2.1 to 2.2 my phone (i9000m) has not been able to acquire a GPS signal. I tried everything I could find on xda and online to no avail. While the 'Test GPS' application was able to identify satellites, none of my applications could (not even Google Maps!). Miraculously, I stumbled upon a solution earlier today. Once I turned off my Wifi (and I don't mean 'Use Wireless Networks'), my GPS started working instantly. The signal locked on FAST and was ACCURATE. I don't know why this happens. Maybe the Wifi interferes with the GPS? Anyways, I decided to share this right away in case it could help others with a similar situation.
Jonnie
P.S. My GPS settings are stock settings other than my Accuracy, which is set to 30m.
