Battery charging and display issues. Also can't change de Radio ROM - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hey there,
I'm having a problem with the battery, my s200 isn't showing the status, the Battery Status: Unknown appears. I've installed the battery "meter" plugins, but none of them works. I just don't know how much battery do I have. Also, when I plug it to the power it charges the batery, but there is no led, no notification. I know that it's charging because I took some voltage measures, but there is no led, and in the windows it's always the same battery status unknown. With the battery status plugins show me -1% of battery.
What can I do?
I thought to change the Radio ROM, to see if that could fix this, but when I try to do that, the program says error 300, invalid update tool.
So i just want to know how to fix the battery issue. Could the radio rom be?
Thanks in advance.
Gus

I have finally found something on resetting the battery!
Try changing or re calibrating the battery.
Taken from the Universal WiKi (should work on the Prophet)
Charge the battery overnight with the supplied poweradapter, not with the USB cable
Drain the battery without SD-card, powersaving off and backlight on full
At some level, the device will turn off. Switch it on and go to the bootloader and drain the battery until it's really empty
Charge the battery again with the supplied poweradapter

okay I'm doing that. I think I did it, but I'll try again. I charge it while it's off right? how much do I charge it? because there is no light telling me when the charging is done
thks !

Only 0% or 100% batt but nothiung in beetwin

Everything was just fine until yesterday when i realized the batterty's built-in monitor wasn't reading a real batt stat. I was sure I was running out of charge and the divice was still saying there was 50% left. I did a soft reset and my atom didn't boot. I took the battery off and waited more than 3 hours, put it back and couldn't boot. I haven't ever done anything to my mobile. No register tweacks, fisical hits or rom upgrades. I searched the web and found a procedure to get it back. Reset+camera choose 1 option and there you go with your device booting at last. I did so but when it ended whith the system loading proces it sent a notification saying that the battery was exhausted and it went off. Again it couldn't boot in a normal way even with the ac adaptor plugged in. I made sure the battery was fully charged. I did a bootloader again (reseat+camera) with the usb connected and i could get it back again but showing 0% battery indicator and would turn off as soon as i unpluged it. I tested the battery with a multimeter and even when it was fully charged i tried to recharge it until green light then i turned it on and the batt monitor was 100%. I could unpluged the usb and everything was fine. It didn't turn off but the indicator got stock in 100%. After an hour or so of normal use i was sure the battery was 90% or less while it was still indicating 100% of charge. I did a soft reset and couldn't boot again. I think the device knows when the battery is 100% charged but when it is less tha 100% and i do a soft or cold reseat the mobile thinks the battery is 0% and won't boot.
Yes, I have ugraded to ROM Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822 to see if this fixes it but now i have a rom-upgraded aton exec with the same fatal error.
I am at work rigth now and hopping my atom doesn't need a soft reset because if so i need to plug it in in order to be able to do a reseat+camera and wait some minutes until green ligth shows up. My atom knows 0% or 100% of battery charge but no numbers in beetwin.
Any ideas?
did you charge the battery for 8 hours on first use, continuing to discharge battery completely first three charges?
This is crucial for battery performance I now get at least three days of moderate usage and at least 7 days in standby, my advice is go buy a new battery follow the instruction manual completely, failing any changes (be sure to buy battery from somewhere you can get refunded) return the battery. Try also reflashing using bootloader mode, not using the SD card!
The last time i used bootloader was after hard reset a no card inside then i performed the last ROM upgrede available from O2. It seems to be a hardware problem more than a software problem as i thought at the begining.
I hope you are rigth, i guess the device gets charge information from the battery and the battery is telling it when it is 100% and 0% when it is under 100% and after a soft or cold reset. I am going to drain the battery all the way down and recharge it up to green light to see what happens. By the way i did not charge the battery 8 hrs when new.
Where do you think my atom is geting the batt charge information? From one of its inside sensors or from batt circuits?
Thaks for your advice.
I mean reflash using bootloader mode, ie. enter bootloader then plug in USB and run DSUU installer from your PC. Its hard to say where the fault lies, some Atom's had power management issues and O2 are fully aware of it, if yours is still under warranty I suggest sending it to a service center but be prepared to be without it for at least a month! (should change their name to SLOW2) and also be prepared to have it returned to you only to find they havent done a damn thing!
Its a bad battery, same thing happened to me. Just return it for a new one, the material is moulded with the smart chip inside there is no way to fix it.
Now my battery is beetwin 100% and 85%. I have searched other forums and i found out it is definitly a battery issue. It has been more than 6 months since i bougth my Atom so i have no more battery garanty. I thing i am going to wait before i buy a new one in orther to get the most of it since it still last more than 2 days.
Thanks for the information.
when a battery xp-02 (for atom family) is sometime stop at certain percentage, says 72% for long time, i do a soft reset and it drops to says 40%, is it a symptom of bad battery? or it is a ROM problem?

8525 - Battery: Unknown

Hi All,
I have a battery/charge/pda problem: if i look battery status i read "Battery Unknown".
If pda is plug to usb/ac it won't charge.
If phone is unplug, it show me a message that warns me the battery level is low.
I try another battery, soft reset, hard reset, change Radio Rom, change O.S. but the problem is the same.
Phone plug/unplug: always "battery unknown" in battery status.
Any idea?
Up! No solution? Any driver? Any tools? any... any???

This is a tricky one to solve.
Here is something to try, but you may need to try a few times and even then yiu may not succeed:
1.
Remove the battery from the phone for at least half an hour
2
Using the mains charger (NOT USB) connect to the phone and switch on the charger (battery still removed)
3
Now insert the battery. Give it a while (up to 5 mins) and hopefully the RED no charge LED will change to Orange and charging will start.
Repeat steps 2+3 if it does not work first time.
If all that fails there is one more fiddly suggestion where you charge the battery a little using a couple of AA type batteries. If necessary I can give a few more details on that.
Failing the above then you'll need to get another battery (preferrably pre-charged at least to some degree.
Mike
Hmm, I have a (mostly) similar problem to this:
My 8525 (WM6 flashed) wouldn't recognize my battery (when plugged in, status light still just flashes green) but the battery still seems to hold a charge (I've run it for a day with outlook sync enabled, which usually drains the battery completely). Battery status is Unknown.
I bought another battery and the same thing happens. Tried it on USB, tried it on AC power. The battery indicator always indicates "charging" which makes me think that my year+ of owning this phone has knocked one of the wire connections out of place. Any thoughts?
(edit: I should add that I tried Mike's suggestion above a few times and the result was always that immediately after inserting the battery, the red charging light went off)

Final solution: power-off while battery indicator at XX% problem

I started this thread because I lost lots of time to find the answer to my problem scattered over many, many threads. I hope this posting can save a lot of time for others.
The problem
The HTC Universal suffers from the problem that the device turns off while the battery indicator still shows juice left.
The cause
It's the battery or the way how the device interacts with the battery. It can have something to do with ROM upgrading while the battery is not at 100%.
Solution 1: Buy new battery
A lot of people will immediately tell you to buy another battery. That's a solution. Batteries are not that expensive anymore. See Ebay for example.
Solution 2: Recalibrate the battery
For me it wasn't a solution (it was a new device with a brand new battery! And yes, I upgraded to WM6 immediately after purchase)
Source: the greatest part of the solution for me was provided here by Jwrightmcps.
1. Charge the battery overnight with the supplied poweradapter, not with the USB cable, then:
2. Drain the battery without SD-card, powersaving off and backlight on full, then:
3. At some level, the device will turn off. Switch it on and go to the bootloader by backlight+power+reset button and drain the battery until it's really empty, then:
4. Charge the battery again with the supplied poweradapter
*** WARNING AT YOUR OWN RISK ***
You can also try to put your battery in the freezer overnight (wrap it in plastic) to drain it, as I once did with a laptop battery. Let it get back to room temperature before you insert it back into your device.
*** WARNING AT YOUR OWN RISK ***
Prevention
Always drain your battery before you charge it.
Charge the battery with the power adapter not with the USB cable or car adapter
My story
I bought the device new in store and charged it in the car when driving home (one hour). After that I hooked up the device to my PC and upgraded to WM6. In the evening, when the battery was arround 40% it shut down... Never got a battery low warning.
(please make this sticky)
Effects of Bootloader mode?
A simple (silly?) question: if I enter Bootloader Mode do I loose all my data? Can I enter bootloader mode and just restart with no more effects than a soft reset?
When to exit bootloader-mode (i.e. reboot the device normally)? Before charging (before step #4) or after it is fully charged (after step #4)?
Cheers,
-mARKUS
Well I don't want to invest in my universal as i'm changing it to another one, so I'd better fix my battery. I tried to do like this:
- discharge battery to 40% (device shut down)
- connected the + and - to a battery-powered speaker system and played music some time. This could discharge it more, what do you think about it? Well I can't say from my experience because I must wait for my device to discharge now

The bootloader mode is used in this example to drain the battery. The bootloader is 'exited' when the battery is empty...
Draining the battery in the bootloader mode will take long, because backlight is not enabled.

No, you don't will loose your date.
Yes, you can enter the bootloader and restart with no more effects than a soft reset.

That is also a nice way to drain the battery. Be carefull that you don't shortcircuit the battery.
doesn't work for me, seem it is a software wm6 reason, so probably there is one solution:
ROLLBACK TO WM5
maybe try to change another part of rom? update bootloader? i don't know... i prefer wm6 over wm5 but this gives me no choice...

when i had this problem, i just bought a fat battery... and followed the prevention steps. I only charge when my battery warning notification appears (less than 10%) and I dont use the usb cable anymore. When I recall why I got the problem with the previous bat, i realize it was because i had been using wm5torage a lot which required plugging usb cable. So now, when I need to sync my phone, I just use my old bat. My new bat has never given me problems (had it for 6 months now) and Im happy with it (although it streeetched my case a bit).
Just a few question before I do all the steps:
1. why we should charge it overnight on 1st step? can we stop charging after greenlight?
2. why drain batt without SD card? Can we drain it with SD inserted?
3. after on bootloader mode, it's only it? just leave it like that untill batt really empty itself?
thanx for this solution.
When I entered bootloader mode at 50% battery remaining it turns off after a short while. I connected the battery to a small motor to drain it but after a short while that too stops. When I checked the battery with volt meter it still showed 45-50% charge. What should I do to drain it?

Same with me. 2 times bootlader mode, just luck on 25% left before really off. Never got drain until 0%.
Connect it to a Voltmeter and lavce it connected until the voltmeter read 0.0volts. But be warned this might take a WHOLE DAY OR TWO. Has anyone tried the freezer method? does it really drain the battery?
I'm going to try the freezer method.
Report here later

Tried freezer initially for 5 minutes and then for whole hour no harm came to battery but no gain as well! Charge didn't drop even one percent. Isn't there some fast way? Waiting with voltmeter for a couple of days is tiresome.
And now the agony has increased even though battery is fully charged if I remove the charger my device turns off. Trouble is that original batteries aren't available here in Pakistan, Rawalpindi to be precise. Now what to do?
Freezer method
I tried the freezer method for one night.
Next morning I took out the battery and let it come to roomtemp.
Took a long time charging (2,5 hours), but no result.
My device switch off randomly some time at 95% some time 50% etc.
i am using jw wm6.

the death of a qtek 9090

Hi! i've bought an used Qtek 9090. the problem is that this Qtek don't power on! it doesn't go on bootloader mode, doesn't go on hard reset ecc... but when i charge it, the red led turns on!
what can i do? please help me
well try to charge the battery only in the cradle
if this not help try to borrow working battery from someone, if your device does not start even with working battery then you are screwed (a hardware problem of some kind)
no i think the battery is ok.
there is a way to restore the bootloader? i've read about the jtag, but i don't know anything... can you explain?
Battery is charging only when the LED is orange/amber. Red means problems with charging - that's why xplode proposed putting the baterry directly in the cradle, as it can "fix" the battery.
Well the red light means there is problem, the most comon problem is the battery, but the red light is also shown with motherboard, bootloader, kernel, and other problems
one more option is there. if the battery is not charged from a long time it needs a shock before recharging to activate the electrons. u should apply some 12v at 1 or 1.5 amp for 15-30 sec. than battery will get a little charge which is sufficient to turn on the phone once.................... but do not apply this voltage regularly or for long time.

Streak 5 dead, what now?

Hello! i have problem with my streak 5, few days ago battery drained out and phone shut down.
i connected ti a charger but nothing happen, no reaction on phone so i left it on charge all night.
Still no response, no picture on the screen, no backlight, no LED, completely dead.
I can get reaction only when i enter in fastboot mode (holding power+camera)
IN this mode touch screen not working, computer recognize device and i can do flash and i do it successfuly but i still cant turn on my phone.
What can be a problem, I tried everything with no luck, also i have not found anyone with same problem
I have 2.2 official, no root.
Try changing the battery. The one you have could be defective, or else there is an issue with the charging circuit.
I measured with instrument 3,67V, connected od 1 and 4. And few other combination i get from 3,30 to max 3,67V.
This seem to be ok, regardless of that you think might be the battery?
Never let the battery drain that much becase now the battery doens't have enough power to start the charging... you should charge the battery manual with some wires on (+) and (-) from a old phone charger be carefull with the voltage(V) and the ampers(A) not to brake the battery, 20 or 30 min should be enough, or you should buy one of this Universal charger. Then place the battery in the phone and it should work ok .
This morning I optimistically tried to turn on a phone and it was successful
battery Indicator showing 7% so i connected to charger, now is normaly charging, everything is working normally...
I do not understand, what could happen? i few times drained battery to 0% but still able to charge, maybe battery is problem, but again, turned on after 3 days
Don't worry the battery is ok the problem is not to empty it again to 0%, at 5% 7% close the phone if you don't have a charger to charge it. This method applies to every phone and battery. It's not a good thing to fully discharge.
Now is fully charged and power is 4,07V.
So obviously battery caused this problem.
I think, good info for all who suspect on battery, 4,07 V is power you need to have on fully charged battery.
With 3,6V you cant event turn on the phone.
Thank you for suggestions
