I took really good care of it. Well, until last night when it went through the washing machine...
I have the 8525 laying on a table with the battery, sim and back piece off. Any chance it will dry out and work again or is it dead for good? I didn't really want to buy the Tilt but if I have no choice I will.
I am kinda confused why the Tilt is cheaper than buying the 8525 from At&t. If I did this as an upgrade because I think my family is due for one, how much would the Tilt cost me? My dad also gets a discount because At&t is used by his company. But I am not sure if you can use that discount with a phone upgrade.
I don't know what to do..I really just hope my 8525 starts working...

Well, I would recomend to not touch in it for couple days, allowing the water to dry. After that, try to turn it on.
If not works, try disassembling it like here and try to clean the boards and pads with isopropilic alcohol and a soft cloth.
If still not works, well, go for a Tilt....
Good Luck

My grommit fell out and got lost when I first got the phone but the local Softbank shop here in Kyoto were lovely; they ordered a new one and had it delivered it to my home address at no charge whatsoever. (Did I mention that the salesgirl was cute, too?) Perfect service! Kudos to you Softbank (And the lovely salesgirl).
I have a near-mint Sprint PPC6700 with a blacklisted ESN, so I'm trying to find a phone that got dropped out of the car window, got stepped on, fell into the pool, or otherwise met with a nasty fate.
It's got to have a clean ESN, on the Sprint network.
Does anyone have one that matches this description?
THANKS!
I have a bricked vzw 6700 if that will work for you. I have been having nothing but trouble trying to unbrick it. (It crashed in my pocket and now for some reason has nothing but bootloader mode. And it wont auto-sync.
My 6700 finally died. Clean ESN all the way and waiting on my Touch Pro to get here. I'll PM you my email. Oh and it is a Sprint.
Dead Apache with clean ESN
I to am looking for an apache with a clean ESN. My father in law gave me the phone, and he was the orignal owner of it. But for some reason it was black listed. I would love to get service on this thing. and it has be wonderful as a pda otherwise. Thanks for any help
did u try ebay?
Dead Apache with clean ESN
it is my understanding that with ebay. You are takeing a gamble with ebay as well. You can't be 100% sure that it is a clean esn
I bought an HTC Aria off ebay and it arrived last week. After getting it charged, I put my sim in, and was getting no signal. After playing with it for a while, I recalled that there were some quirky things having to do with the battery cover having to be installed correctly for the antenna to work. I talked with a friend who has an Aria and yes, there are two metal tabs inside the battery cover that make contact for the antenna. I tried my Aria with the battery cover from my friend's phone with the metal tabs and it works fine. The Aria that I bought off ebay doesn't have these tabs (but it doesn't look like anything was removed), and yet the seller claims (that her son told her) the phone worked fine when she sold it to me. So, I'm wondering, if there are two different Aria's out there in the wild one where the antenna is attached to the battery cover, and one where they fixed the hardware so its not needed and I got a mismatch of two phones and battery covers, and because of that does not work.
Has anyone else had this problem and had/or any luck making a replacement set of antennas? I tried a couple of pieces of wire, but it seemed to not make much of a difference. There is an OEM Aria battery cover for sale on ebay, that I probably will get provided the seller will ever answer my questions.

I would say to just get a new cover, should not be much. If your phone is an AT&T phone it should have the metal tabs, if it's from somewhere else then maybe it's possible there is a different cover but I doubt it. If I were selling my Aria on e-bay I would surely make sure it works before sending it out, but that's just me. Cheers.
There are battery covers available on ebay, and that's probably where I'll end up getting one, one seller had them for @$15.
I too purchased my Aria on eBay, and in my search I noticed that this (Arias sold without the OEM antenna-in-battery-cover) is not an uncommon problem, especially for devices that are being sold at a lower price. The phone is designed such that you will get minimal/no signal without the OEM battery cover, which does contain the phone's antennas. Apparently your hardware works just fine, and the battery cover that you were provided with is clearly not OEM.
It looks like there are OEM battery covers for the Aria on eBay, but I would require the seller to provide you with a picture of the inside of the cover, showing the metal contacts of the antenna, before you commit to purchasing. I would probably also contact the seller of the Aria and request reimbursement for the cost of a new battery cover, since the phone is virtually useless in its current state.
I already have. Hope to have a fully functional Aria soon.

If the lady doesn't want to reimburse you for the price of the OEM battery cover, I'd file a complaint with Paypal. You can take a picture of your friend's battery cover next to yours and explain about the antenna leads. Chances are you will get your money back and you'll probably get to keep the Aria as well. Something's hinky about this lady and her claims that it worked just fine before. She or her son is lying.
Already talked to her about it. Already took the picture. May go ahead and contact ebay come thursday just so they're in the loop.
You should definitely open an ebay case. You can just request enough money from the seller to get a new battery cover if you think they really didn't know about the defect when they sold it.
Well, my Aria is working with the replacement back cover, and surprise, the seller hasn't responded to my email about the cost. I'd hate to ruin her perfect feedback...

I'm sure she means well, but some people just don't know how to handle screwing up, and get embarrassed, defensive and downright nasty. Try and be polite but don't let her take advantage of you. get your money's worth - and take it up with ebay.
I am however glad that you figured out the issue and have a fully functioning phone! enjoy it! I'm running Liberated FR008 with the overclocking kernal+SetCPU (@824MHz interactive), and I just couldn't be happier with the phone.
GPS locks on almost instant, and everything runs awesome. Also I've purchased several OEM battery covers that all work perfect, but am about to buy one of the colored ones off ebay - I'm hoping it comes with the antenna!
So my room mate's Droid 2 got a little water damage.. The phone wont power on at all and gets hot if the battery is left in it.
Obviously a broken phone.. however the water damage indicator on the phone is not showing that it has been wet..
so my question is: How possible would it be that I could take the phone into Verizon and play stupid to try to get it replaced..?
My room mate has already called Verizon and got a new D2global sent to her and has no use for the old broken D2.
any input or advice is much appreciated thank you
1. Check, how old is your device (maybe garantee?)
2. Before you do anything, you should make sure, that the inside of the phone is dry. Therefore I advice to lay the phone on a little bit warm heater (not hot!!) without the battery (maybe this does the job already...).
3. If not, play silly at your seller...
... if phone doesn't start after drying, you should start it without the battery (with charging cable)... maybe just your battery is dead.
thanks for the reply. I have tried all the drying tricks.. even gone as far as taking the phone apart and inspecting the hardware.
im more just concerned about Verizon's policies and procedures.. if there happens to be any VZ reps or employees listening...??..

*cough* I'm not advocating fraud
If your roommate got another phone sent to her as a replacement for the original that was dropped in water, then they will expect the defective device to be sent back. If it was an upgrade (meaning she paid money and/or agreed to a contract extension) then there is no expectation of VZW receiving any device back. After 5 days of her have the replacement they check for the device that is expected and charge the account full retail price (prolly around 6 hundies). That being said, if it isn't on any account, its not covered by warranty. Your best hope is to let it dry out completely (about a week or so in a dry place) and then try again to use it. Liquid damage will show in other places and they don't go only by the indicator sticker.
Play dumb.
Play dumb
Play dumb : ))

Thank you Bornthor, for your comment. You are correct; if the original device was replaced via the warranty, or via the Equipment insurance program, it does need to be returned within 5 days of receipt. If it is not returned, then the line will be charged a non-return fee. This fee is based upon the full retail cost of the device, which is over $500.00. Upon receipt of the replacement, a free shipping label was included, in order to return the device with no out-of-pocket cost.
I would strongly recommend not using this device on a different line, since your roommate will be charged for it. Once the charge is on the line, it cannot be removed until that same specific device is returned.
I hope this information is helpful for you. Have a great day!

I accidentally laid my droid2 face down on a wet nightstand a while back (after a long night of drinking). Woke up with water under the screen. I had an old broken droid2 laying around and I was able to transplant the motherboard from the wet one into the old screen/keyboard assembly. You might try doing something similar with the d2g if nothing else works.
Good luck!

Lol.. did you think you got a free phone?...
I know that if you take the phone into the store and have them make a warrenty exchange they wont charge you. The tech needs to inspect the phone befor it is exchanged. If you play dumb at this point and they dont pick up that there was water damage then your going to be ok. Yes when you call in then send the phone in, theres a good chance that you will be charged, and its bull how much verizon charges for these phones now.
I've been told that placing phone with water damage in a bag of rice overnight helps remove moisture from the phone. Just make sure your remove the battery and the cover from the back. Hope that helps somewhat.
