How to showing "E" icon on phone signal icon? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Does anyone know how i can change the phone signal icon to show E when i'm connected the internet? I don't want the network icon.
I've seen some roms do this, but I don't know how to enable it.
right now all i see is a coat hanger and the signal bars.
Thanks

Show Edge network indicator instead of GPRS
If your network provider supports the Edge network (and your device does as well), you can use the following to show a little 'E' icon instead of 'G' icon when connected to an Edge network:
Code:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon = 1 (DWORD decimal)
To disable again:
Code:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Note that your device -and- your network operator need to support Edge, otherwise you won't see it. Also note that if you connect to GPRS, you will still see the 'G' icon.

About 1/4 down the page.

thanks, but this not what im asking for.
I already knew about that.
I want the E/G icon to show up in the signal bar icon. not the network icon.
there was a rom I used that had this feature. and I want to enable it for the current rom im using.
I hope someone knows what im talking about.

You might want to try asking the Wizard Upgrading or Wizard Mobile 6 boards, then, because this is just a general catch-all Wizard board.
You might also try the built-in search. It's pretty good (not always) at finding what you're looking for, if you try different ways of saying it.

Thanks, I'll post in the other boards.
I already tried search and looked on the wiki, but It only tells me about the GPRS icon.

A way to remove the "G" from the status bar?

Hi,
I never really use GPRS and therefore it would be handy to gain the extra space in the title bar my removing the 'G' icon. Does anyone know how to remove it.
Cheers
Andrew
You can download wisbar advance from lakeridesoftware.com, you MUST download the Beta version from the forum as the version from the main download section doesnt work with windows mobile.
This enabled you to not only choose what is in your status bar, but also allows you to skin your taskbar.
Looks brilliant.
You don't say what XDA you have, but try GB-SOFT's GPRS tweak control Panel at http://www.pdagold.com/software/detail.asp?s=265
The product home-page is at http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_en.htm, but was down when I checked just now.
What normally happens, is that the XDA checks for GPRS network availability at boot time.
The utility allows you to tweak a few settings, one of which is the ability to turn off checking for GPRS until you actually *use* it, which should take that G away.
Thanks for the replies.
p.s. I've got a i-mate jam.

GPRS / EDGE registry hack - question

Made the registry hack to display the"E" while in an EDGE area...
does this indeed change from an "E" to a "G", while in a GPRS area?
Or is it just a change of the icon?
Reason I ask, is that I drove from one end of town to the other, and noticed only the "E" never the "G"
am I just lucky enough to have EDGE all across town?
thanks!
Yes your just lucky enough. The hack just makes the icons different, if your in a gprs area then it will show a G.
yeah u must live in a place where their is good reception. just like me. hehe. Its E wherever I go.

I have tried this tweak on my qtek9100 with the original 9/22/05 ROM
Code:
If your network provider supports the Edge network (and your device does as well), you can use the following to show a little 'E' icon instead of 'G' icon when connected to an Edge network:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon = 1 (DWORD decimal)
I know cingular supports edge in my area. Also, I know that qtek9100 specification says that it is EDGE phone. However, I still never see "E" anytime. Is it the same hack that you guys have used, or is it something else ?
Please let me know.
Anup
Hi..
If u are editing registry, then after editing it power off yr device for 15 secs and then reboot...else find out the cab which does that hack..

There may be a reason why the EDGE icon isn't turn on by default. And that may be that the icon dosn't work in all networks.
Operators probably dont want you to know that you are getting worse data in some areas, but if they made the icon say E all the time that would be lying. By making say G all the time you dont know when you have better or worse bandwidth by just looking and they arent lying about the bandwidth you are getting.
On another note i noticed that in the windows directory on the stock usa mda rom there is a 1xRTT icon. Why are they wasting space with this?

Well, yes I have cycled power on my device after doing this registry hack.
However, I have read somewhere that if "EnableDifferGprs..." key is not present in the same location, then this feature is not supported on your device.
I didnt have this key in the location specified, and like other tweaks, I had to create this key with the value 1.
Did your devices have this key already present in that specific location in the registry or you had to add it and set value 1.

You have an old ROM that doesn't have this feature.

yes, HOWEVER, i have noticed, that this indicator sometimes 'hangs' and showing wrong icon. for example when i know that i've left EDGE area and i'm now in GPRS-only coverage, icon still shows [E]. in that case, best solution is to switch off and on phone module, to force network registration again, but sometimes just making a call (to refresh network information) is just fine and icon turns right...

Tried that out. The provider supports it, as i know from my friends Atom. Changed the value to "1" decimal and turned off the device for 15 sec.
Still no luck :-( ...
Am I missing something?
I don't rec my mails when i m in an "E" display mode. Buy whenever the display shows "G", i receive all my mails?
If this is the case, then how do i keep my htc touch from only using "G" and an "E"?
Thanks

Battery Icon & Time

Hi there,
I've just installed an updated AKU2 ROM, and all is well except the time is no londer on the top, and the battery icon is now in the title bar, not in the tray.
Does anyone know how to revert back to having time at the top title bar, and battery at the bottom (or not at all).
I'm sure I've seen this mentioned on here somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere!
Thanks

Hide/Show battery indicator in Task bar
If you wish to hide the battery indicator in the task bar on some devices, you can set:
HKLM\Services\Power\ShowIcon = 0 (DWORD decimal)
And to show:
HKLM\Services\Power\ShowIcon = 1 (DWORD decimal)
Note that this icon and its feature may not be available on your device at all. For example, the HTC Wizard regularly ships with a battery indicator in the Tray instead, governed by "Windows\Startup\Init_Tray.exe"._
_Note also that this reportedly does not work on AKU2 ROMs to remove the new battery indicator
However, if you get hold of one of the newer ROMs, eg 2.23 or 2.24 then you'll find that MS have come to their senses and have put the clock back.
Thanks, disabling th battery icon will do for me.
What program is best for reg editing?
please note that with AKU2.2+ ROMs, you actually need the following tweak instead ( listed further down that same wiki page):
Restore Clock on Taskbar when on Today Screen
The AKU2 update brought with them a, arguably lame, battery icon which replaced the Clock. Although the clock can be restored when running applications, it is permanently removed when on the Today Screen. Microsoft have addressed users' concern over this in the AKU2.2 update. You can restore the clock entire by setting the following:
Code:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\ShowTitleBarClock = 1 (DWORD decimal)

As for registry editor, I use PHM Regedit - works very well
Ok, in the registry I dont have \Services\Power
As I'm using an AKU2 ROM (QTEK 2.17) I'm guessing this won't work?
any ideas?

Correct it won't work, you need an AKU 2.3 based ROM like the T-Mobile 2.24 found here.
I have a screen shot of the today screen here.
So far, 2.24 is working well for me.
Well, AKU2.2 anyway. AKU2.3 is even newer
AKU2.0 though, you're SOL :|
And pre-AKU2.0, this wasn't even an issue
Still waiting for an official AKU2.2 update from Qtek myself... or AKU2.3.. whichever.
Use this program to show the battery icon back at the tray.

That works, but doesn't remove it from the top bar which is what I'm after?
i installed tweaks2k2.net to fiddle with the registry, did a few changes and soft reset the device. now i manage to screw up the area where the sound, radio, gprs icon and gprs monitor is located. now my sound and radio bar is hidden or block by something.
how do i get back to its original state? unfortunately i did not backup my registry. damned.
anyone?

update!
problem solved. i just need to apply the date setting back to the task bar and everything back to normal using the same tweak.

Some questions about qtek s110

I bought qtek s110 and I have some questions.
How can I switch on text message delivery notification
Is there anyway to switch on battery indicator as shown in the manual
Is there anyway in the smartdialing not to show the sim contacts.
Is there anyway to have voice dialing over bluetooth
Thanks
Well I don't have a Qtek so I don't know what custom software is in their ROM, but I'll try to help...
1: That should be on by default. Check Start -> Settings -> Sounds and Notifications and see if 'Text Messages' has any sound assigned to it.
2: Windows Mobile, stupidly, does not come with a battery indicator by default. Try something like this if you like your battery indicator to be in the title bar, or this if you prefer a more detailed one on the today screen There are plenty more here if you want to look.
3: Not as far as I know. Annoys me too!
4: Actually you can't do voice dialling at all without extra software like Microsoft Voice Commander or such. Google that .
Thanks for this program. It is exactly what I wanted. I was looking for something like that for a long time.
I found an issue for the delovery notification.
It is a registry entry
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSDeliveryNotify = 1 (DWORD decimal)
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSDeliveryNotify = 0 (DWORD decimal)
If i find a sollution for the smartdialling and the bluetooth headset this will be the perfect phone.
Thanks again

[APP][2009-04-06] Toggle3G - tool to toggle between 3G/GPRS mode

Hi,
another little tool by me. This time it is to toggle between 3G and GPRS. Basically it does the same as if you click on the 3G button in the CommManager.
The main usage would be in scripts or through a shortcut as it has no GUI and toggles it quite fast.
History:
v1.0
initial release
Will this toggle between Auto and GSM modes or we can choose WCDMA (3G) only, too?
command line?
Hi
Thanks for this application. Good idea. I'll test it out.
Does this support command line functions, such as switching from "Auto" in the band page to "GSM" or "WCDMA"? If not, can this be implemented?
Many thanks

I only tested it on my GSM device. So I can't say if it will work for CDMA devices.

There are no commandline parameters yet.

Doesn't work on my 614c, either. Too bad, looks like a neat app.
this has been done already by bandswitch and commmgrpro, commmgrpro above no other is king in this category

Those apps are fine, but they do much more than what this does and have UIs, which are unnecessary if you just want something to use in ThrottleLauncher or UltimateLaunch. I think this is a great tool - I just wish it worked for a non-HTC phone.
Nice little app. Very useful to launch from Programs in TF3D...

WCDMA is 3G, not CDMA... Stupid name but whatever...
This will be a great tool for use in scripts. Problem with toggling, tho, is that in order to get what you want, you have to know the current state. I would really appreciate some basic CL parms like -3Gon and -3Goff
I would like to use your application to change the status of the 3G connection through a button that run the program, and I would like the icon button changes depending on the state of the 3G connection.
Place where the register is saved the state of the 3G connection?
Sorry for my english.
Very nice program. Does exactly what it should.
But it has no icon yet. Will there be one in the future?
Indeed, an icon would be nice.
For CDMA users:

Fail on Tilt 2
I tried this on my Tilt 2 and it seems to only change the toggle in the commmanager, but it doesn't seem to change my actual connection.
Hi MarcLandis,
thank you for sharing this with us so we can test it. So please read my...
Report:
i have tested toggle 3g on my phone (signature). What i have seen is that in the taskbar the icon is changing from 3g to flight mode and back when i use the exe again.
But when i use the hardware phone button i can take normal phone calls without the code popup and the icon is changing from flight mode to 3g. When i close the phone app the deafault 3g icon stays allways.
So i think it is not working on my HD2.
