Sync with OpenSuse/Ubuntu - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

hi all guru here,
Do you know how to get the HTC Dual Touch connect with linux and sync?

other than wine, im not sure
apparently, activesync 4.1 works under ubuntu and wine.
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3774

i've downloaded the ActiveSync 4.3.. i think.. but it's in .CAB format... wine can't recognize it and install.. :'(

I tried with ActiveSync 4.5 which is a .msi file (MS installer),wine supports it with "wine msiexec /i filename.msi". It installed well but when I try to use it wine reports "Unsupported socket family".
I didn't waste too much time on it...if someone had better luck please share

How to make the USB port through WINE?

Hi, the above links to a project I have been working on (SynCE-KPM). I just want to clarify a bit about it:
* SynCE-KPM is builds upon some components of the SynCE project, you will need that to be installed before you can actually use SynCE-KPM (see www.synce.org for instructions. )
* SynCE-KPM does NOT do the actual syncing. Syncing of the PIM data on the phone can be done to any PIM application supported by the OpenSync project (Currently basically Evolution and Kontact, though there is a google plugin also IIRC).
If you want to install the SynCE on your computer, make sure that you follow the guides that are provided on www.synce.org because a lot of the guides found on the net are either a bit outdated and contain errors or are oriented to the WM2003 devices, which require a completely different way of connecting.
Guido Diepen

I'm currently sinking using this method
Any suggestions on a good program to manage
PIM
contacts
calendar
email?

I'd say stick to Evolution for PIM data, and use the opensync frame work to sync. All info and a good how to can be found at synce.org. Just follow the setup for ubuntu.
I've been syncing flawlessly for the past year.

Sinchronizing Magigian on Linux with Synce

I followed both steps (usb and bluetooth) with no success...
are there any brave persons that are able to sync this device on Linux?
http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/howto.php (USB)
If yes, could you please tell me which kernel did u use and yours secret tips?
What's exactly the problem you encounter? I use Raki and synce on one debian machine, but just to connect, show the magicians screen on the pc's screen and copy files between them, not to sync any data (appointments, etc.).
Greetings,
BGK
Which guide did you follow to set it up?
The device is recorgnized by dmesg but i can't connect to it with pppd
Have you tried multisync? It should be the bridge between synce and evolution
I have also successfully used RAKI on KDE desktop (Debian Testing) to connect to the Magician. It transfers files back and forth, with the right iptables masquerading entry (done manually) I can use the Internet, but I cannot sync anything either
I forget exactly what I installed, but everything should b plug&play.
Kernel 2.6.10, Hotplug, Synce-KDE...kernel installed manually, the rest from the Debian dselect program. There are certain things you have to set up with the kernel config.
What distro are you using? Any other details?
Re Multisync; I really do want to get synch'ing going like ActiveSync. I installed it, tried various configs, but I do not get anything in the program... Can anyone else help?
uau, could you please post your software version?
did you pass some arguments to modprobe ipaq ?

If you made raki work you should install multisync and the evolution plugin..
it's already in http://www.multisync.org/files/multisync-cvs-snapshot.tar.gz
Hi metnik, sorry for the late reply.
My device is an O2 Mini (aka Magician), information at Settings => System => About, is
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14235.2.0.0)
I did not have to pass any arguments to ipaq module. It did everything auto; I guess it is because of the 2.6.10 kernel.
I have installed Multisync from Debian Testing, and it has SynCE and Ximan Evolution 2 plugins. I have created the synchronization pair with these, but NOTHING happens when I press the "Sync" button.
Raki, on the other hand, works nicely with the USB cable; even the KCeMirror works very nicely (window of the device on your desktop).
The only problem with Raki is the synchroniztion setup errors with "No Synchronizer found for (Contact)..."; i.e. I don't know how to get synchronization working with that either... It really would be nice to have a copy of my address book on my Linux partition somewhere. So far it is only on MS Outlook, which I don't use...:-(
Also, I have bluetooth transfers working between the Mini and my laptop, however, I havent figured out how to get bluetooth working with Raki. It would be rather nice.
Any clues?

Active Sync 4.0 Still not working

somebody please help me... i flashed to wm2005 recently and tried using it..well, i can't get it to sync via USB activesync 4.0...
i've tried all advices from these posts, but still, i can't get them to work... i've tried the following:
1.)detect and repair outlook
2.)uninstall and reinstall active sync 4.0, and connected to other ucb ports
3.)downloaded and installed the netrndis.inf, rndismpx.sys and usb8023x.sys files
4.)downloaded activesync 4.0 from the microsoft website...
you wizards out there, please help me.. i'd really love to use wm5.0, but if i can't use active sync, it's useless...
Go to the ftp site, the himalaya wm2k5 folder contains two activesync files. Download the most recent one and re-install on your pc.
If you have further issues go to the wiki pages. Link is posted on the news section.
Please use Activesync 3.8 instead
I believe microsoft site itself recommends 3.8. It works well for me.
Hope that helps.

Activpync wont install on my computer...

Any reasons why not? Im on Windows XP yet it comes up a warning saying that it will only work on computers with XP!
This is very frustrating...
Is there any other way to link my phone up to my computer? I would really like to transfer some music onto it
Have you got SP2 installed?
I cant, I dont have a genuine Windows.
Do you NEED SP2? Surely there is a way around this...
I can download activesync 3.8 but I think I need the drivers for the phone?
Any help... PLEASE!?!
I've had the same problem with my XP version
impossible also to install an update from windows site
I had to install an update on my windows 2000, that worked
and then activesync 4.1 finally worked 100%
other way to work around that was to download things on XP
put them on my old SPV E200 with activesync 3.7 wich works
and then send the things on my SPV M3000 by bluetooth...

Or get a Legit copy of Windows XP!!!
You run a pirate operating system then compalin when software doesn't work with it properly.
Come back when you have a license. Is your Wizard stolen as well?
hmmm dude...
the post isnt if its right or wrong to steal windows! Its to do with how we can cheat them more!
I think the only way round this is to download a crack to get xp2.
If I could find the drivers for the phone would it work on activesync 3.8?
PS. No my phone is not stolen, Im sure you have a copied CD in your collection somewhere too.
There's a vast number of copied XP versions with SP2 pre-installed available out there. Should be all you need.
I can get a legal copy of windows xp from somewhere...
But to install it would I loose all of my documents?
chrisredmayne: it would be in your interest to backup your docs (and whole system) before installing SP2, even if your windows is legit. It's a big install!
You could make your own SP2 install disk, by "slipstreaming" SP2 into a windows install disk. Also, there are cracks for SP2, and there are also cracks for trial versions of windows.
I imagine the ActiveSync install could probably be cracked to skip the SP2 check, but it's not a long term solution.
I don't recommend any of this. When you start using SP2 and Windows in the future, you'll have to have a legitimate copy to download certain updates from Microsoft, so you might as well get hold of a legit windows, one way or the other. OEM copies are stupidly cheap, and you can even buy an OEM Media Center install for a small amount of money.

there is a piece of software at
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2 called "card export II"
allows you to make the wizard look like a mass storage device, so activesync is not needed to transfer to the storage card.
ps (takes a few goes to install)
I dont get how to install it, only looked at it for a minute though. I unpacked all of the files, and it asks to open a prc file? and press hotsync on the cradle... (Guess that means phone).... Stumped
if i remember correctly .prc files are for palm user's not pocket pc.
i think you have downloaded the wrong version!
Use cardreader to download into mSD, anything you want:
Music, apps, but you need cab files to install it from mSD card.

aliendad, can you confirm you actually have Softick Card Export II for Pocket PC working on a wizard device? I have tried this on my k-jam and it didnt work at all. Even when i contacted Softick support they have said they are still working on a WM5 / Wizard compatible version.
EDIT: i just went and downloaded v2.10 of CE2PPC (which funnily enough isnt even mentioned on the website). In the setup i downloaded, i found there is a WM5 ARM install cab however this still fails to install on my Wizard / K-JAM as with all the previous versions.
Thanks
Chris
You need a minimum of SP1. You do not need SP2. For ActiveSync 4.1. If you cannot pass the genuine validation tool you need to enable automatic updates and to install them automatically. You cannot use the Windows Update site. If you set to install Critical Updates automatically it should bring down SP2 (as it is considered a Critical Update)
Also you can just download SP2 (the full install) and you should be able to install it. It should not require validation as you can install it if not connected to the network.
Although the above may not work if you truly have a messed up version of XP. I am assuming you have either a cracked version of a legit copy or an invalid product code.
I have read about people cracking XP Media Center 2005 and all worked well until the Genuine Validation tool. Then somebody came out with a crack for that.
Good Luck
I just got a disk with XP so I think its a fake validation code that I have.
I downloaded the SP2 from the windows update site, and from a random site somewhere that I searched on google for.
The problem was that when I tried to install it stopped after a few minutes and said that it wasnt a genuine windows. So Im guessing any version that I download will have the same check on it.
But I shall try and turn my updates on later and see if it works, or give that other program a go!

yes, is does work, had to do a lot of soft reseting but now have a quick access icon at the bottom of the screen to select card export or active sync.
a few days ago did a hard reset, and installed card export as one of the first installs and it installed much more smoothly that the earlier install.
ps great prog makes things much easier, can't install activesync at work.

Mac support

I am looking for a way to sync ical with my tasks and appointments on my phone. Ive found software online and whatnot, but nothing for 5.0. anyone know of anything? I would really appreciate it.
Missing Sync for Windows Mobile
I'm using Missing Sync for Windows Mobile on my OS X MBP. It works great and you can install .cab applications with it as well. Unfortunately you still need a windows machine/install to install the .exe stuff but I've found most software vendors for PPC apps supply a .cab install option now as well.
http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_windowsmobile.php
cool ill track down a PC and try it out. THanks!
You won't need a PC to install Missing Sync, it's a Mac universal binary. What I was speaking of are applications for the PPC device that require you to run an executable on a host PC (windows) to then install the application on to your device. However I just found this on another forum and I think I'm going to give it a try.
File Juicer - one of the features is "Extract CAB files from Pocket PC self installing EXE files" once you have the .cab you can install the application via missing sync.
http://echoone.com/filejuicer/
oh I think i found this once, but 40$ and no trial scared me...

Any one successed to syncing with Vista RTM??

Although it was working with RC2, strangely, it doesn't with RTM, the driver is installed but only the file transfere is working. I can see an icon of my JJ in computer (ex. my computer) and when click on it, i can browse the JJ ram and the storage card only, but there is no any syncing capabilities. Any one has an idea about that problem. May i am going to try the old RC1 trick:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...roductID=7C1FA894-B2C5-41BE-8D97-E145DD2A883B
Still there is no respoonse after 26 viewers, does this mean that there is no one has installed the new vista RTM release or I am asking a selly question?

Yes, I synced my HERMES with http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6a-a72d-4aef-9663-31ce2fefbada&DisplayLang=en this tool, but sometimes don't, lot of crashes...
Just have a try:
disable any Anti-Virus and Firewall softwares.
I tried downloading the sync tools beta, but fiind it hangs outlook (2007).
I'm going to give it a try just running wirelessly and see how I get on.
The same don't know why it's not working...

I tried it, it worked, thanks. The difference is that i followed the trick mentioned above also, i added the registery key WHOS, then installed the WMDC beta program, so, will try to use the WMDC program only without the registery in another installation.
Now I sync 95% of times, I just unchecked in settings-> connections->USB to PC-> use enhanced USB
I have managed to get it working after having reflashed the rom on my phone (probably not required) and re-installing the Windows Mobile Device Centre beta 3.
I think the trick is to make sure your phone can connect to Vista OK before you install the WMDC software and then install the software with the phone connected.
Good luck
Are you also able to flash / upgrade the phone using Vista RTM and MDC beta 3? I'm not
