Guess U Can Imagine It.. - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

Here I want to share my stories..
I Live in Indonesia.. Once upon a day, i have a flight to Medan.. when the ship was going to take off, it was just like the usual that the crew command all the passengers to switch off the Mobile Phone before we take off..
then.. just like what they ask for, i press the phone icon in my pda's wireless manager.. after that the phone icon covered by "x" icon wich means the phone is off or it comes into Flight Mode.. i see that the signal icon is "x"/off too..
then the ship slowly move into take off ground.. before it cames to the take off possition, there was incoming message comes to my PDA.. CRAP!! it's only vibrating because i put it into silent mode..
Only I who know there is incoming message, not even my Mom beside me.. soon after that I don'y know why? the ship was slowly to stop.. then the pilot says with the speakers.. "I Repeat, Hope U all coorporate for the safe of our flight today, please turn off all off your mobile phone.."
I was confused on what must I do.. after a few seconds I decide to take my BA n take out the battery then put it again, which means now it's fully off..
and the the pilot says again " Thank You" after that we take off..
from my experience i felt that the "Wireless Manager" isn't truly working.. CRAP!!
I'm Using
ROM : 5.60.00 WWE

You might be right.
There are two independent settings on Command Manager, 1. Flight Mode and 2. Phone.
Phone off doesnt mean that all communication signals are off on the device whereas Flight mode on means all communications on the device are definitely off. On my BA too, one toggles the other setting, which in my view is incorrect, though I never paid much attention to it.

weird bug with phone indicator not functioning properly

by the phone indicator I mean the reception status indicator. after I wake from sleep mode it would not show any reception status at all. I cannot go into phone settings after that, would tell me wait 15 seconds then try again but after 15 seconds, same thing.
I can use the phone however, calls would connect and incoming calls would connect.
a related bug that I noticed, I cannot disable flight mode properly either. after entering flight mode phone shuts off (normal) but when I wake it would not come back alive. phone indicator remains with an 'X' on it and I cannot force it to register on my network.
running on Rogers Wireless in Canada. although I doubt the network is causing this grief.
anyone else experience this? so far there's only 1 ROM version available that I'm aware of. so I don't think that'll have any effects on this.
suggestions would be appericiated.

btw forgot to mention I'm on an I-mate K-JAM.
all else set aside this is an excellent device. being my first pocket PC I know I will have a great experience playing with WM5.
I have tried manually setting all sleep options to 0 with PHM regedit. that includes BT and phone.
in case any fellow Canadians are wondering about the availability of K JAM in canada. the answer is NO. I had to order it from a US store, paid a fortune clearing it from the customs and waited 2 weeks for shipping. tough luck being a Canadian .
Yep, this happens on mine as well. Sometimes it goes so far as to say "SIM status unknown." I hope a ROM update can fix it.
I have had the same issue on occasion... Not sure if it 3rd party software doing it though... Don't want to hard reset just yet...
I could not exit flight mode one time. Soft reset fixed it.
somewhat of a fix. I just turn power off after 3 min thing off while on battery. manually lock keys and turn screen off everytime I finish using the unit. the battery definitely sucks a whole lot more but phone don't go to sleep anymore which fixes the whole not recovering reception issue. and flight mode seems to work better as well.

Same here with my Qtek 9100. And my 9100 continues to show the roaming icon even if I am under coverage of my home network (Vodafone Italy). I think that this one is a SIM related bug (I tried to use another SIM and everything was fine), waiting for the next ROM update.

Using Wizard on Planes

Since one is not allowed to have a cell phone on during a flight, does anyone have any idea on how to turn off the Cell phone aspect of the Wizard? I want to still use the Wizard to listen to music or watch a movie during the flight!!
Thanks in advance!!
Pretty easy. Open up the comm manager. Disable bluetooth and phone. Boom, flight mode.
One more. Tap the icon of cell network signal and select disable.
You know, I have used the Com Manager numerous times to turn my Bluetooth on and off - and I never noticed the button for the phone!!!! I figured it would be easy!
Thanks for the help!!!!!
There is a flight mode built into the wizard, click the icon at the top that shows your signal strength, and click "Turn on Flight mode"
Just as an FYI, the "turn on flight mode" option doesn't seem to exist in the T-Mobile UK ROM.
Although it still works through Voice Command. Cool.
I'm getting sick and tired of these ************* Wizards on this ************* plane.
Heh if your Wizard/wm5 device doesn't have flight mode you can download this program,
http://www.winmobileapps.com/device/pocketpc/fm/fm.aspx
hope this helps..

Ya id did, i have gone to us 26 now but i know for a fact that the rom when i first got the phone had flight mode!
Don't know about other countries but in Sweden all electronic equipment has to be turned off during start and landing. Most often I don't turn it on during the flight because I know I have to turn it off in a matter of minutes anyway... I do have a hard time believing that I could sabotage the flight by not turning my Wizard off. Osama would have thought about that a long time ago...
I don't know about you, but my Wizard (the T-Mobile MDA) had two ways to turn on flight mode. You can click on the phone icon on the top right, or you can press the communication button on the outside top left to get the Communication Manager, and click on the Phone button.
The new flashed firmware from T-Mobile has a greatly expanded manager--there are 8 items.
Coming from the IPAQ 6315, I really like the MDA.
The truth behind the "all electronics must be off" rule is the possibility that EM-radiation could cause a problem with some of the systems used during take-off or landing. So they say "better safe than sorry" and just make you turn everything off. There are anecdotal cases about flight attendants having to move passengers with pacemakers and other electronic implanted medical devices to different parts of the plane to prevent interference.
Oh, and here's an interesting fact about 'Flight Mode', it completely kills your phones ability to transmit. It turns off the phone, bluetooth, infrared, and Wi-Fi. And when you turn off Flight Mode it turns on whatever of those you had on before. I just tested that on my Wizard. I found out the first time when my brother and I were trying to play Scrabble across the aisle using infrared between turns. Flight Mode didn't allow infrared to activate so we decided to play on one phone and pass it back and forth.

It's kind of stupid they would include Infrared as part of flight mode. Infrared is perfectly safe and does not use a radio transmitter.
What you can do next time is instead of turning on/off Flight modes, just manually turn off the phone transceiver, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.
Just been back from the airport for half a day, one both my trips (to my destination and back home) the specifically told me to NOT use my Wizard even when Flight Mode is turned off! So I had to turn it off...
was on a flight the day after the water scare started. Flight atttendant gave the guy across teh aisle hassle for using his BB even though the phone was shut off. Finally he convinced her it was OK. If you need to use your wizard, you might be ready to do some arguing.
Reminds me of somethign Bill Maher said last year, "If my cell phone can crash your plane...you need to build a better plane."
I have always used my wizard in flight mode as an MP3 player. I have never been questioned even when typing emails which will be sent as soon as the plane lands.
Try wearing the headset next time. h
MythBusters tried to affect a poorly installed avionics system with several mobiles at different frequencies I think the Myth was Busted.
During the horrific flights of "9/11" did not several passengers successfully make cellphone calls? The use of phones has never been put forwards as the reason those planes crashed.
Ryanair are supposed to be trialling a roaming GSM service on board their fleet.
The Airlines makes money when passengers use the Skyphone system it is not in their interests to allow non revenue generating phonecalls.
Actually on mythbusters they found one band did affect the insrumentation I thought.
My point wasnt that using the wizard was bad, its just that it could be percieved as a cellphone. Thats all.
i thought they were using the installed phones, above the tray tables
http://kwc.org/mythbusters/2006/04/episode_49_cellphones_on_plane.html
Mythbusters tested in a jerry rigged 1/2 cokpit which would definately not meet FAA/CAA standards for installation.
I maintain that a correctly functioning phone wether using GSM, Bluetooth or Wifi would have NO effect on avionics when used in the passenger compartment of a civil airliner. Ryanair would not be contemplating setting up such a system if it was inherently unsafe.http://www.cnn.com/2006/TRAVEL/08/31/ryanair.mobile/
I always wandered what the heck "Turn on Flight mode" is for.. now I know

Bt on sleeb mode

hi all as you know that the herms cant reciev or send data over BT if the device in sleep mode so i descover that the BT isnt off if the device in sleep mode it just make the device hidden so if somone can make apatch file or somthing can edit the rejestry to make the device not hidden
sorry for bad english !!!
does that happen also when the device is locked with, say, an app like DeviceLock, so it is still turned on just with the screen disabled? I'd try it myself but I'm a long way from my computer until Tuesday night!
yes even if the device is locked

How to easily screw up your phone

Hmmm... I think I just found a way to really screw up your phone... let's see what you think of my theory:
1. Put your phone into Airplane mode. This will completly turn off all the radios in the phone.
2. Go into settings and set an unlock pattern.
3. Put your phone into standby mode and turn it back on.
4. If you use up all of your tries at the unlocḱ screen you will have to enter your login details to unlock it. BUT THE PHONE IS STILL IN AIRPLANE MODE. Hence, the phone will not be able to connect to Googles servers for verification. And the worst thing is that not even a shut down of the phone will remove the airplane mode. Not even a removal of the battery.
THe only way to get out of this is to do a hardware reset of the phone.
What do you this of this?
I am not gonna test my theory since I don't want to risk having to do a hardware reset.
I think before the phone tries to connect to the Google service it will prompt you with a 'turn off airplane mode/turn on mobile data/WiFi' option, like it does when you open an app that requires WiFi or GPS when those radios are switched off.
Try it

Nah... I am not going to get close and personal with my theory on this one... Just let's hope you're right... someone else might need to do a hardware reset?

Alarm while phone is off!!

Hi, has someone developed a way to sound the alarm when the phone is off?? I saw somehere that you need to program the alarm in the BIOS.
I really hate to call these 'smartphones' when a basic phone would do that!! Alarm clocks are a passe anyways!
Flight mode is the way.
It is useless to switch off the phone...in flight mode the battery has almost no drains (1% at most).

That's because when you switch the phone off IT IS OFF.
A Nokia, say, doesn't switch off - it goes into flight mode and switches the screen off.
If you notice a Nokia phone loses battery power even when swithed off because in fact it is still on. That's why the alarms go off
Therefor: Switch to flightmode and turn the screen off = same result - but smarter !!!!
Why then there is a 'Flight mode' option in Nokia as well? Cant seem to understand this??

It's a feature Nokia added so people could turn the phone signals off manually in situations where it was unwanted. On planes for example.
You could try this
Ageye G-Alarm, is isn't free but claims to
"Save battery power overnight
Using the integrated flight mode you can turn off the phone and therefore minimize the battery drain until the next alarm. Afterwards G-Alarm automatically turns your phone on again."
Same thing, but might do it automatically, but its too much for me, I don't need all the functions so haven't tried it.
Thanks! But would not want to use two third party apps just for the alarm! Looks like I might need to get back to my old & trusted alarm clock or use my other Nokia phone!

Which two 3rd party apps are involved in using flight mode? (by my count none are used)
You can even configure a long hold of the hang-up button to enable it if you want in button config...

In Flight mode, you can still use your phone in "off-line" mode, you can even use WiFi... so saying that turned off Nokia is actually still ON - only in flight mode - can only say someone who doesn't have a clue what is going on inside the phones. Turning Symbian phones OFF/ON means soft reset, does turning Flight mode ON/Off means soft reset in any phone? Of course not.
Take your laptop - there is power save mode, sleep mode and hibernation. But OS (say Windows) is still running, even it is on the lowest possible level, so a few external inputs (keyboard, mouse, modem), most of them you can specify in Bios, can bring the system from stanby or even hybernation mode. When you turn off your Nokia, operating system (Symbian and Maemo too) is completely off. But the internal clock chip is still running, althoug only on cca 1/100th of clock rate. When you turn phone off, the info from the alarm clock is written to this chip, telling him after how many those slow cycles he suppose to wake up (if there is anough power from the battery left). Would be easy to implement this to any phone hardware, HTC, Sony ... they'll just have to run something else than Win OS. So blame the Microsoft - but go easy on them - it's relict from the old ages of PDA, when Windows and phones were two totaly different things. Whatever I wrote is not a 100% accurate, but I was trying to make it simple and uderstandable. BTW any phone (HTC also) is loosing battery capacity when is OFF. Actually, take the battery out and it will still loosing power, after some time in even more (in hot and humid conditions) than when you leave it in the deep level stage inside the Nokia.
