My company runs an exchange server that i can connect to via SLL on the web. However, I always got an invalid certificate message. On 2003 devices on ran certchk and i could synschronize my mail, calender and contacts.
Now - with my JJ - i can not get to my mail anymore because of this invalid certificate. I does not help to download the certificate to my device, since it is invalid.
Is there any reg hack, apps or whatever i can use to overcome this?
Thx
Ronaldovic,
Try exporting the root certificate from the Certificate Authority in "DER" format, copy it to the JJ and run it. This should work as the JJ is not certificate locked.
Ferg.
I did - and when i look in settings-certificates - it shows in the list of certificate but with an enddate of somewhere in 2003 (so it is not valid).
Again, with certchk in 2003 devices it all worked flawlessly.
Are the certificates still be the problem now? Or is it something else?
When i sync, i get an error: 0x80072F17
Ah sorry, I read your mail but didn't really read it and assumed I knew what you were saying.
If you can get a reg editor for the JJ (I use something called "Mobile Registry Editor" which is a PC-based app and works through ActiveSync), change DWORD Value under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Activesync\Partners\[Secure] to 0 I gather this will do it.
On the point of the certi though, can you not get the CA to issue a new certificate to the Exch box? When connecting through SSL, ActiveSync doesn;t give you a "Yeah connect, I don't care!" dialog box as OWA does.
Ferg.
got a good reg editor, but can not find the last [secure] part...what do u mean by that? For example below ..\partners i see two entries(default) and (ServerNameChanged). and two directories with strange numbers.
About the certificate thing...if i understand u correctly i will never connect if i do not have a valid certificate?
I appreciate the help!!
YEAH!!! Great, got it working, thx to u!
I just love this forum.
Glad to hear it!
I am back....
The sync goes ok now, but every time i send a new mail, it gets send twice. In my outbox on the JJ there is one email, when i receive i see two coming in (exactly the same)
Any1?
i can get it to look like its working by turning off ssl. e.g. it says sycing 20/20 emails. However when i go to messages there are none there! Similarily contacts, tasks and calendar items appear to be syncing in active sync, but they just dont show up!
Hi,
I have run into the same problem.
Used the tips on changing the registry (for which I really thank you!!!).
However, it seemed working until I realize that my Treo 700w keeps asking for the password. No matter how many times I enter my password correctly, it just keeps asking the password over and over again. It does not save my password even if I select "save password" option.
Have you run into this problem and found any workaround?
Thanks in advance. Bo.
Boryu,
Remove and re-add the server source.
I've had this a few times and it's well annoying! This seems to do the trick though.
Ferg.
same issue
i have the same issue,
i used registry editor but its not allowing me to add the reg key!!
am i doing something wrong,, and were do i add the Secure Dword?
Why don't you just renew the certificate? Just right click the website folder within IIS 6.0 and select Properties. There is a security tab (Directory Security?) within which you can renew an existing certificate.
I had the same problem getting push email to work, and renewing the certificate fixed the problem.

please help
thanks in advance
Has anyone ever tried this out?
I am not sure if you need to install the server application on you workstation or on the actual exhange server. Would like to give it a go, as my company I work for is so slow in implementing any kind of mobile mail acess (we will have WM10 with 8mp camera pocket pcs before my work has mobile mail access).
you could try intellisync Wireless email http://www.intellisync.com/pages/Products/Express/
I have a similar problem with my company being a bit slow on the uptake...this works perectly...really pleased.
You install an application on your desktop and on the device (all very simple) The desktop app syncs your mail etc to a webserver, then the app on the universal connects to the webserver and sync it down onto the device. Very slick. Bear in mind that you have to leave your desktop logged in to your corporate network all the time, which isn't a problem for me as locking the pc doesn't affect the functionality.
I have seen that, but I don't want to use 6 different programs and places to sync. My dad has Intellisync Mobile Suite 6.2 on his Jam and works like a charm, but I can't get my hands on the original installation package.
I can access my work's e-mail via the web through webmail, but I don't know the settings like port numbers etc to get my Jam configured to connect. Is there anyway one can find out these settings without asking IT, as they are still testing it and won't give it to me at this stage.
Surely if you can connect to webmail (exchange), then my Jam should be also be able to connect. Imate Mail also uses webmail and it works on the JAM.

Not sure what you mean...there's one app on the pc and one on the ppc.

I was just being sarcastic.
I know on 2 apps, but you still have a "middleman" where you data needs to be sync from the pc, then from there to the ppc, back to the web server and again back to the pc. I want to go straight to the exhange server, which I should be able to do if I can get my work's webmail settings.
I see! Have you looked at xmail from o2...similar but your ppc connects directly to the agenct on the desktop...
it does
it works so far, but it is a pain to configure.
i hooked it up to my mail server.
with the admin tool you need to (under win or x) configure a user, device and principal and there you go.
what the manual does not tell you: you have to replace PipelineManager with PipelineManagerGeneric in ds-server/config/Funambol.xml to get it to work with your IMEI, or configure your device with IMEI syncml ..
It smashes my funny german umlauts, though. There is a patch (already included in Funambol) that should configure my internal storage to use utf-8, still its using internal iso-8859-15 (what ever that is for..)
I didn't get it to Unicode until now..
I have not tried to connect it to my mail server.. and i have not tried push email yet..
Stefan
I managed to get exhange activesync to work. But since last night I can't get internet access via GPRS and this morning I can't get VPN access. No nothing wants to work anymore.
Looks like I have to reload my ppc and start from scratch, I have checked all my settings and see nothing wrong.
So I reloaded my Jam this weekend, connected to the work's mail server via GPRS and got my stuff.
Came to work this morning, changed nothing on the pc's settings, plugged in my Jam via USB, pressed sync and it connect without giving me any funny error messages that I got on Friday.
It is weird that it works now with the same setttings and now juts because I reloaded my Jam, it works. :x
help with funambol
trying to get funambol to work on my xda iis 2003se, anyone else got it working with the push email ive set it up how the guide says but i dont get where the log in info goes for it to get your email. anyone willing to do a step by step walk through.
I'm trying hard to like my x1, can anyone help?
Whenever I try to access OWA using either PIE or Opera I get a page cannot be displayed error. Anyone else seen this and got a solution? OWA works fine using my E90 S60 browser.
Thanks, Martyn.
Just tried it on Opera 9.5 build 15202 and it renders really nicely - pleasantly surprised!
Doesn't work in my Opera Mobile. Can't remember the build. It's the one with Manila favs from Itje's thread.
It works nice and is really fast (as always) in latest Opera Mini.

Try Opera Mini.
I'd not like to use Opera Mini for sensible sites
like OWA. It transmits logins over a proxy,i don't
think it's a good idea...
why don't you use Active Sync? You can sync it
manually and e.g. only for the last days. But for
the most it uses less traffic then visiting
the OWA site everyday...
Better yet, set up your push email. It keeps a HTTPS session alive. You just need to install the certificate on your PC to set up the sync, which you can get from OWA.

How?
Will it work without OMA (mobile access)? I don't think so. We don't have a frontend server to support ssl connection from mobile devices, and I'm pretty sure I've tried everything.
If you have a magic way to make it work I would really like to know.
I've been having the same problem...
...and I tried Activesync, but I get a 'certificate' error. I can't figure out how to get the certificate on my device.
I spent days searching the web for an answer... and I gave up after a while.

If you have the .cer file, you just copy it to your device like any other file and run it from there. It should install. I had a few weird cert errors when trying to get mine to work but random poking and prodding seemed to get it up and running eventually.

To be honest, I don't know, I'm not the exchange admin.
My company's fairly tightfisted when it comes to IT expenditure, so I'd be surprised if they forked out anything extra.
A cursory glance at MS's documentation implies that it shouldn't be necessary because as far as the exchange server is concerned, it can't tell the difference between WinMo's client and a regular web browser. I stand to be corrected by someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
Try installing the cert and setting up your server in Active Sync. It should just work.
I had problem in my work getting this working but after a clean install of OWA on our front end server everything worked properly. The only think needed on the X1 was to import the cer file if you going to use Exchange/Active Sync connection as someone has already suggested.
IE and Opera always worked it was just Active Sync which had problems.
I've just recently got an X1 and been trying furiously to get active sync to work. But as I don't have access to the exchange server at work, I've been trying to find out how to obtain a copy of the cert from my outlook.
Haven't been able to find anything, any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Grab the cert from the OWA website, cause it should be SSL encrypted. The browser shows the encryption with a small lock symbol. Click on it an get more information about the cert. When you opened it, open the cert for the CA shown on the last register. In there choose "save to file" and copy it to your phone.
On the phone open the cert with any file explorer, that will import it into the phone's cert store. From now your phone will trust your company internal CA.
This way is only useful, if your company uses self generated certs with an internal CA. You can see this, if your browser at home (the pc there has nothing to do with your company) show an cert warning, if you open the OWA website. If you really can't get acces to this site from the internet, forget all of the above
Brilliant! I'll give that a go when I get home! I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks again mcfisch!
I just realised what I did wrong the first time. Under server, I put the wrong address didn't I. However, I've come across another problem, Where it asks for the login credentials, there' username, password and domain, what do I put under domain?
Its all sorted now! I can't believe I was being such a dumbass! I was over complicating things way too much!
Happy days!!!!!!!!
Morning - looks like I am one of the few in the Uk to have got my Nexus - arrived yesterday morning complete with engraving on the back.
As an aside the DHL tracking on the web still shows as only "shipment details received"!
The reason for my post is getting email from my Exchange server - it all works fine with my iPhone and Hero, but when ever I try to connect with the Nexus I keep getting "Setup could not finish - Unable to open connection to the server"
I have tried Touchdown and it is also upable to get the activesync profile from my server! gets a Error 500:
Is there something simple I am missing? I am able to browse the wen and get my gmail on the device but no exchange!
Any help would be great
Thanks
John
I have been able to use both the Android mail connection & Touchdown to connect to my hosted Exchange server (2007) using SSL, I guess as you have connected from other devices you must know the settings of the server.
Are you connecting via Wifi or 3G ?
Shouldn't make a difference, but which carrier are you on & did you get the 3G correct ?
Can you connect to the server on OWA via the browser ?
Good luck
Working fine for me, have you tried playing around with the settings? E.g. mine doesn't work unless I've checked the SLL box (but not the accept SLL certificates box), and make sure you precede the username with domain\
tried on both 3g and wifi - both no joy
just been looking for roadsync on the market and I don't appear to have any paid apps either...
been using an O2 sim just putting my orange sim to see if it makes a difference but doubt it will as wifi doesn't work...
stumpted!
I originally had a problem connecting with the native activesync with a similar error, however touchdown worked fine. I would try touchdown quick config and see if it can figure it out. You also might need to look at the certificate options under touchdown. Forcing that might help.
I have tried again with Touchdown - and managed to capture these results from the log:
I have reset my hero and reconnected to my exchange server and it connects fine...
I have called HTC to arrange a hardware replacement but the guy on the phone didn't seem to know what he was doing.

How did you capture the log from Touchdown?
I'm using Touchdown here as well and have no issues to speak of. From what it looks like it might be something server-side?
Quick connect in touchdown captures the log as it tries to connect.
I agree it all points towards a server issue, but what is different between the nexus and the hero? I have reset my hero and reconnected with the standard android active sync connnector and it works fine. I use a neuxs with the exact same settings on either touchdown or the android connector and it fails!
It is driving me mad - I have synced my outlook contacts with my gmail account so I at least have numbers etc. but without email this phone is going to end up on ebay real fast
John
Not sure, but have you set the simple password in Touchdown? It looks like that is a required policy and if touchdown doesn't report back that it is set you won't be able to configure.
because the hero doesn't support the simple pin I got my exchange admin to remove this requirement for me
An even bigger thing for me was the lack of Exchange Calendar Sync on the N1. Seems a terrible omission when the Droid/Milestone supports it without trouble.
Just completed the update to Mango. No issues during update and the About screen now shows Windows Phone 7.5 (7720).
Everything seems great so far except Outlook now just says it's having trouble connecting to the server and to try again later. I've verified the server is available via a desktop web browser and my credentials are correct (plus it worked this morning before the Mango update).
Tried removing a re-adding the account - no luck.
Also tried tried entering the https webmail address right in to Internet Explorer. Says it can't open the page and try again later. Other sites are working just fine.
Live Mail and Hotmail also working fine.
Anyone else using Outlook via webmail credentials? Is it working for you?
access to my Exchange server was not affected after I upgraded to Mango. Temporarily, try to set a very basic password that you can't easily mistype on your phone. Maybe you are not entering in a character properly.

update:
Works over cell data connection. Works over home WiFi connection.
Does not work over workplace WiFi connection (worked previously).
Based on the working scenarios looks like credentials are still correct.
Hmm
