Outlook Express and Outlook are not the same application. Outlook Express is an email only application; Outlook includes Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Notes.

The tool you have should do the trick. when I switched to ROM 3.16 I used it to restore my entire device. It installed everything that was on my device with 2.17. I mean everything!

When you run the software it already has the basics things like contacts selected for backup, you can stick to the default or you can select a custom folder and add that to the list. I selected the root of all folders (usually depicted as "\" and backed it all up to my Storage Card. If you do not know what you want to keep, keep it all. I maintain all my large full system backups on my SD card that came with the mogul and use my 4GB card just for incremental backups once a week. The key is to read everything before you click.

Backup Manager

Hello all,
Has anyone here used sunnysoft backup mananger 3.7 to backup and restore a whole machine?
What I mean by that is, install backup manager, backup the machine, hard reset it so all data is gone, then install backup manager and restore everything so it is as before the hard reset.
Any info would be great
Use the search facility and you should find a fair few threads!
Yes, I have, nothing sprung out at me, why did you think I started this thread.
If you know of the thread, why not post it here?
Well there was this one!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33688&highlight=sunnysoft+backup
Why dont you try it yourself and post your results!
I arent keen on the sunnysoft as explained in the previous thread!

I have, it even worked after a ROM upgrade, only drawback (did not bother me though) is losing all messeges.
Otherwize its perfect.
Sunnysoft backup manager
Works very good even after complete crash EXCEPT PIM !!!
I mean:contact,calendar etc
For these you'll need to synchronize again
Other small things not included in the backup:
- voice tags
-Speed dial
- Mobimate configuration
Thanks all, yeah saw that post didn't realy specify the situation of the restore, that is why I was a little more specific.
They have v.3.7 on their website. is that what everone here was using?
Yep it works great...

Hi
can someone that uses the Sunnysoft Backup confirm if this software works properly on the Xda Exec.
What I mean does it back up the system properly and then restores it propely.
I need an back up software so I can back up everything in my Xda Exec in case of any problems that I need to hard rest the pda so I can restore it back with all my software as it was.
Thank you.
Ciao
Gigino
My question is totally unrelated. I don't have Sunny Soft backup software installed at the moment. I am waiting to purchase another SD card before I start reinstalling everything. But here is my question: How do you enable the automatic backup option? It seemed to me that all it have is a manual backup option.

Yes the restore is working perfectly, once again except the PIM stuff:calendar, contacts, tasks
But those can be restored from Activesync.
They are a few minor things that are not restored even by Activesync:
- voice tags
- speed dials
- Mobimate basic config.
About backuping the PIM itself there is a thread of Buzz how to do it without using Activesync:just find the file PIM.(something) and copy this file to SD
On Hofo there is a thread on a beta from Sprite, some issues with it still, but works better already than Sunnysoft.

Awful activesync problem

guys i have a big problem syncing my wizard contacts to my outlook.
I never used the sync before but i was gonna copy my contacts because im gonna install the new rom.
anyway
USING ACTIVESYNC 4.1(re installed again after this problem nothing changed)(also reinstalled the office 2003)
please bear with me, the problem is when i connect the phone to the pc activesync tries to sync
it gives an error which is this

I think the problem is this
Synchronization Fails because ActiveSync is incorrectly registered with Outlook but idont know how to fix it
this is a really awful problem for me i would appreciate your help mates.
This isn't really a fix for your activesync, but there is another way to keep your contacts after a rom update. There is a file called pim.vol in your root directory. this has your contacts, calendar and some other stuff. copy it to your storage card before you update, then replace the new one thats there after the update. Soft reset and everything will be there. I don't think the stock file explorer will let you do this, try total commander or resco explorer.
thank you very much!
any ideas why activesync is doing this???
Which version of activesynch is it and did you look at the MS site?

Google Mail Application - Intalled but where?

My first post, but I promise I have searched this forum to see if there is an answer to this question!
I'm having difficulty with Google Mail application on this device. I have Googlemail working fine in the pop/imap programme, but this does not seem to give all the functionality I want - for example being able to search all mails ever sent/received.
I therefore downlaoded and installed (twice) the Google Mail application. When prompted I changed the install folder from "Root" to "Applications". It installed fine, and can be run from the "run application now" link which appears at the end of the installation process.
However when I want to run the application again, or set a shortcut to it on my home screen it is nowhere to be found!
Am I doing something stupid? Can anyone help?
Thanks
Start Java.
It's a java app and doesn't put a shortcut to any installed java applets into the standard start menu.
There's a shortcut called JBLEND in startmenu tools folder (about halfway down) to start java
Thanks for that - found it and it works. Really annoying though that I can't get an icon for it. Strikes me a little anti-competitive of Microsoft to do that! I had an icon fine for it on my old Nokia.
Let's hope a fix comes along.
Thanks very much

Huh? That makes no sense.
Why do you use java app on Windows Mobile, better is use gmail via active sync? Emails, contacts, calendar?
http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo
ok... I have activesync tied up with work's echange server... I normally use the Java Gmail app. However smy latest attempts to install, say the install .jad file is corrupt...
I am install directly from the website... gmail.com/app
I am using IE not opera to navigate there, the install link appears, however it gets half way through the install and then advises me the install program is corrupt...
since I have never had this problem before, I would guess it is more likely something to do with the Java client in my Laurentius ROM... anyone have any hints on how to get the app installed correctly?

True! You first need to install sdkcerts!
SDK Cert is a certificate used by the developers or programmers to sign the file/s you're using to make it/them eligible to be installed on the device. It's just like a consent from the developers for their OEM softwares to their users. To make the device accepts the file/s, the SDKCert have to be installed on the device for key matching purposes.
Hope this helps,
Senax

Did you not do a nandroid backup before messing around removing stuff? You could use TB to extract out of that or use other methods.

"People" is the display name of contacts - there is no people.apk.
If you use Google to store your contacts, then you'll need Google contact sync. If you have a Google account, then you need Google account manager. But I'm guessing that that it's already installed or you wouldn't be able to access Play store.
TB does not backup system apps, only their data. You will need to manually copy the contact apks. Then, on your ROM where you don't have people, copy the apks to /system/data, boot into recovery and wipe cache and Dalvik, and reboot. You should have people back again.
