Hello all,
Has anyone here used sunnysoft backup mananger 3.7 to backup and restore a whole machine?
What I mean by that is, install backup manager, backup the machine, hard reset it so all data is gone, then install backup manager and restore everything so it is as before the hard reset.
Any info would be great
Use the search facility and you should find a fair few threads!
Yes, I have, nothing sprung out at me, why did you think I started this thread.
If you know of the thread, why not post it here?
Well there was this one!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33688&highlight=sunnysoft+backup
Why dont you try it yourself and post your results!
I arent keen on the sunnysoft as explained in the previous thread!

I have, it even worked after a ROM upgrade, only drawback (did not bother me though) is losing all messeges.
Otherwize its perfect.
Sunnysoft backup manager
Works very good even after complete crash EXCEPT PIM !!!
I mean:contact,calendar etc
For these you'll need to synchronize again
Other small things not included in the backup:
- voice tags
-Speed dial
- Mobimate configuration
Thanks all, yeah saw that post didn't realy specify the situation of the restore, that is why I was a little more specific.
They have v.3.7 on their website. is that what everone here was using?
Yep it works great...

My question is totally unrelated. I don't have Sunny Soft backup software installed at the moment. I am waiting to purchase another SD card before I start reinstalling everything. But here is my question: How do you enable the automatic backup option? It seemed to me that all it have is a manual backup option.

Yes the restore is working perfectly, once again except the PIM stuff:calendar, contacts, tasks
But those can be restored from Activesync.
They are a few minor things that are not restored even by Activesync:
- voice tags
- speed dials
- Mobimate basic config.
About backuping the PIM itself there is a thread of Buzz how to do it without using Activesync:just find the file PIM.(something) and copy this file to SD
On Hofo there is a thread on a beta from Sprite, some issues with it still, but works better already than Sunnysoft.

After getting a rather angry phone call today from my girlfriend accusing me of not replying her SMS'es, I thought I would investigate it a bit further. I have not received a single SMS for the past four days (which is quite odd for me).
I first tried sending an SMS to myself from my gf's phone. The i-mate just sits there - no indication of anything going on. I then switch the SIM card to my old phone and send myself an SMS again "Test message 2". Surprise surprise, I get the message immediately!
So I know that the problem is with the i-Mate and not the network.
I did a search on these forums which suggested that a hard reset might fix the problem. So I backed everything up using Sprite Backup and do a hard reset, then reinstall everything.
STILL UNABLE TO RECIEVE SMS!
But that is not the end of the story ... the backup process ERASED every contact in my contact book after "H"! And it also erased it on MS Outlook on my desktop!
I am SO ANGRY that I feel like flinging this BASTARD PDA into the wall. I have had nothing but trouble with it since I bought it.
Well on a more sober tone ... any of you know how to fix this problem?
After quite a bit of fiddling I think I have isolated the problem.
After a hard reset (and without restoring anything using Sprite Backup), the PDA is able to recieve SMS without any problem.
ONLY when Sprite Backup does a restore do I get a problem with SMS. I then tried uninstalling every program and still could not get any SMS.
I suspect that Sprite Backup might have corrupted a registry setting or a setting in the inbox. Any of you have more clues?
I can post all my registry settings for SMS if that would help. Anyone?
I have had the same problem after Sprite Backup, and i solved it in 2 steps:
1) make hard reset
2) uncheck e-mail/SMS and Phone Databases before running Sprite Backup restore
OK i will solve your problem,
1)make hard reset
2)make backup with Sprite Backup(no install anything)
3)make restore old backup
4)make restore backup(no install anything)

I am sure is ok but if you no , try restore Email one or two times
the email restore issue is a known bug in the current release of sprite backup, however if you email myself, or [email protected] you can get a pre-release of 2.3 which will restore email correctly.
Thank you for using our software. The problem that you are experiencing
has been identified and we will be fixing it with the next few weeks. We
currently have a version that has not been released to the public but
fixes this problem. This version is version 2.3 it has some issues that we
will be fixing shortly. This version hasn''t been completely tested and we
are offering very limited support but fix the SMS problem and allow you to
perform basic backup and restore operations. If you wish to use this
version.
I test two times for backup and restore, it perfect!!

Advanced mode
Pre release is available for download from

Wow! Thanks Sprite software for your response. I did not expect to hear from you on this forum. Thank you also to everyone else who replied.
I can confirm that after I wiped email backup on Sprite the problem went away. I can now recieve SMS'es normally.
I am waiting with keen interest for the full release of v2.3.
Fail to receive SMS'es
Thank god for this forum.
I have the same situation. Did a Sprite restore a couple of days ago and have not received any SMS'es since.
I have a new girlfriend and we are going to meet tonight. I SMS'ed her and had no reply. Only when I finally called her, did I realize that she had responded but I did not get the SMS..
grr.. Had it not been for Sprite's response in this forum, I would have uninstalled Sprite and looked elsewhere. I am evaluating Sprite and was ready to buy when this happened.
Waiting for 2.3..
Regards
Michael
Backup size: version 2.4
I tested Version 2.4 - and found two issues:
1. Backup file size increased from 37 to 56 MB for the same data.
2. Warnings about a large number of files not included, despite having 'Stop Processes Before Backup' checked.
Anyone else with similar experience.
For now, I will live with 2.1.3 and use xBackup to handle contacts and appointments - which it does nicely.
Regards
Michael
Ok here's the thing, I downloaded and installed a program from "Skyscape" but couldn't get it working successfully and now can't seem to fully "get rid of it".
Everytime I connect to PC a window briefly pops up (I think its something looking for updates) and everytime I explore my Storage Card through my PC I can see the following folder "Skyscape_Backup".
Everytime I delete it and everytime I plug back in its there again :?
Please Help...
What can I do?
Cheers for any assistance,
marto
How are you deleting it?
Have you used add/remove programs?
After that, check your windows\start up folder and also the program folder it might have been installed in on your device.
If it's still there, it might be a service. Use SKTools to clear that kind of rubbish. Backup first though, danger will robinson, destroy all operating systems...
V
Yep tried "remove programs" which now no longer lists the problem program, also tried deleting through PC. Can't see anything which has the same sort of name in "windows" and "startup" except maybe (and thats a big maybe) ssdeviceid application.
Can't see anything in my book about SKTools I assume its a download?
Will have a search through the forum database and so on
Thanks for your input V.
Yep, sktools is a download.
Is the window that's popping up on the pc or the pda? You didn't state I think.
Also, check in activesync. beneath where it shows all the syncing progress, does it show anything related to skyscape there?
V
Sorry for the delay V (was trying to figure out how to do screen shots)
Yep the popup is at the PC's end.
I installed SKTools it looks pretty dangerous... is there any particular function from it I should be using?
Cheers, marto

Oops forgot to mention "no" nothing seen in ActiveSync.
Yep, don't worry about sk tools. I thought it made sense that the program was on your pc.
Have you removed the program from your PC?Again, use add/remove programs on pc to remove all trace, then check this program: Autoruns
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html
Check each tab for possible entries. the program obviously tries to sync itself with the PDA everytime. I hate programs that are so misbehaved and think they know better.
For the PDA, backup often so you can always go back to a clean-ish setup.
V
Hmm no success looking with Auotruns, and nothing in "Add/remove".
Was thinking while crashed out on the sofa that I might try to install it all again then uninstall it in a more stable way (I think I may have done it a bit all over the place) otherwise might blast off an email to there support....
Another day more time to play...
I have SPB BACKUP and a 8 gigas microSD but the pda freezes when backing up to the microSD
ANY SOLUTIONS ?
I have no space enought to back it up to the PDA.
It will ask : should stop all running programs? --> Say no
It will backup things for you

Had the same problem. I removed the program, and reinstalled it.
For now it's working ok.
I had these problems too...
I would suggest using last version of Sprite Backup... it's much much better!!!
I would echo the same advice.
Despite getting past the 'stop all programs' etc.. section, SPB Backup would hang on me.
So I switched to Sprite.
My immediate concern with Sprite was that it didn't support self extracting archives (in case of real failure), but I was wrong. Sprite is stable and works well.
Problem with both
Hi,
I´ve got problems with Srite & SPB backup programs, latest version.
Has anyone ever done a full restore after hardreset?
Sprite and SPB couldn´t restore all files and settings
e.g. - lsoma0000.db (in \windows\lic)
Lost SMS and caller history ...
Any experiences?
you can try this on spb backup
make location my documents and AFTER FINISH move it to memory card
this is temp solotion an its work

SPB seems a little simplistic in my view although it does get the job done.
I ran a backup on a 2.2 ROM of all my apps then reloaded a 1.1 ROM and restored. The device settings showed the 2.2 ROM and Radio stack not the older one's I restored.
For $300 it seems a bit expensive for something that only copies files and registry.
Now,
if it copied partitions, ROMs, data, files and Registry then *that* would be worth $300

Right, this is very weird...
I made a Nandroid backup (compressed) on TWRP for this first time, it completed successfully and then I powered off and turned the Nexus 4 back on. However to my surprise, I could not find the backup on my SD card. I checked everywhere (data/media...TWRP folder...etc). I even checked the entire phone (with root explorer enabled), nothing. However the backup was successful because my Available Space has fallen by roughly 1gb, the size of my backup. Does anyone know whats going on here?
Thanks in advance, really appreciate your support.

Hmm, unfortunately I don't get that. This is what I see.
Could it be because I am using a theme on my TWRP (the Holo one btw, which no one else has reported a problem on)...
Edit: Okay, I think I solved it...I went onto the root of the phone again this time, searched the data folder and was able to find Media -> Backups (see below). Why is that it appears here rather on the SD card data folder?

maybe because you compressed it? i dont compress mine.
Thanks for the help Simms, but after digging around on XDA forums, I found the cause and the solution (posted here):
jasonwc said:
There was a weird bug with TWRP that put the FIRST backup in /data/media/TWRP/backups (read: wrong). After rebooting the recovery, all future backups will go into /mnt/sdcard/TWRP/backups, which is where you want them.
Here's what I think happened:
1) Your first backup was stored in /data/media/TWRP which is not where TWRP looks for backups. So, TWRP showed no backups.
2) You ran a second backup which showed up correctly in TWRP, and was stored in /mnt/sdcard/TWRP/backups.
3) You renamed the most recent backup, and then checked /mnt/sdcard/TWRP/backups, and assumed the renaming actually moved the folder. I don't think it did.

Greetings,
first of all, since this is my first guide, please be kind and for another thing, english is not my mother tongue so pardon eventual spelling errors.
I'am sort of a "flash-o-holic" and one thing that drives me nuts is everytime i flash a new rom, i have to reenter my saved WiFi-networks including their passwords. And since these passwords are really long, about 16 to 26 characters, it's a very tedious process.
But a found a solution or workaround, that i want to share with you.
First, grab your wpa_supplicant.conf file, usually it's saved under /system/etc/wifi/ (you can either pull it via adb or copy it with a root explorer to your sdcard) a save this file on your PC.
Now download your desired rom (if you haven't already), open it with a zip tool (i use 7zip and so should you ), navigate to /system/etc/wifi/ and replace the wpa_supplicant.conf file.

And that's it!
You can just flash it like normal via custom recovery.
Worked for me everytime. (=
Nice, I never thought about that. I usually restore this using Titanium Backup, but that requires getting TB onto the phone first. With your method wi-fi will be available imediately after booting.
EDIT: Except... that file is mostly empty. For me the file with my wifi data is /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
...or you can just backup your data using Google. it restores your WiFi passwords

I could do that, but i don't want to save my WiFi-Settings & passwords on a google server. It's silly i know but i'am kinda paranoid.

Same for me
Well, i guess the Main Argument against that would be:
When you need to restore from Google, you have to connect to wifi first, right?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
