automatic disconnect after 1-2 idle - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

Hi !
could you please tell me why the touch dual disconnects the datasession (HSDPA) after
1-2 minutes being idle.
Whenever I want to use it again, I have to wait until the Session is established again.
Is there a setting where I can set this Idle time to a higher value ???
thx
hans

Editing the Registry
Try setting this key
"HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\|gprs connection name|\AlwaysOn = 0 (DWORD decimal)"
to
"HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\|gprs connection name|\AlwaysOn = 1 (DWORD decimal)"
(perhaps you have to soft reset thereafter)
Then the dual will allways try to establish a connection as soon as GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA are available. This works for me since I have a 200mb data plan.
Cheers,
jekk.
ps. you have to use a registry editor for that, I used Resco Explorer, but there is freeware out there, too.

Always On Battery
Hi !
thanks !!
is there a chance to set it to f.e. one hour idle or similar ? I think "always on"
will deplete the battery really fast isn`t it ??
Thx for your help !

depends... if in the former case re-establishing the connection occured often enough (maybe twice an hour), "always on" will lead to less battery drain. it's kinda trade-off.

Registry hack to close internet connection - wastes battery

I've noticed that my internet connection stays on for long periods of time. This wastes my battery. Is there a way to have it shut off automatically when I am not using it? Pocket Tweaks says it should close when I close applications using it. This does not happen. I've tried using Magic Button to truly CLOSE my applications, but it stays connected.
Use a registry editor, and add this:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 8 (DWORD decimal)
Or to add a Disconnect button and a timer display showing how long GRPS is in use for the session:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 16 (DWORD decimal)
To disable both the Disconnect button and the timer:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 0 (DWORD decimal
That was very useful, but now I see that when I launch messaging, check my email, then close messaging, my internet connection stays on. This happens even when email triggers from TMO triggers a mail check. This is why my battery (and probably a whole bunch of other people's too) is draining so fast. It's like being on a phonecall ALL THE TIME!
An active, but unused GPRS connection uses nowhere near the battery amount as a phone call. The battery drain is negligible if nothing is being transferred.
elyl is completely right - an inactive GPRS connection doesn't influence ur battery life noticeably! I recently enabled direct push (so my Wizard is connected 24/7) and I didn't recognize ANY influence on my battery life - still between 2 and 5 days, depending on the usage...
I'd also like to know the answer to this question. Perhaps an inactivity timer of sorts?
Speaking of waste, is there anyway to stop ActiveSync from being so damn persistent ram when it's not even connected?

Tips on Getting the Most out of your Battery

Anybody have any tips on getting the most out of your battery. I'm currently rumming WM6 business edition and just want to know how I can get more out of my battery. I have read to turn off wi-fi and gprs when not using it.. is there anything else that can be done. I have all the battery patches but i dont feel as if they are working..any help would be greatly appreciated
turn IR beam off too...
is that set on by default?
Turn off your phone overnight. You can get an app to do this by schedule (I cannot remember the name, sorry).

i pretty much never run out of battery and i am running windows mobile 6, all i do is just make sure the screen is off (the button on the top right) and it really helps the battery out

Do you do this during the night or throughout the day. Thus having the phone set to turn off after 5 mins of inactivity
by the way, how the heck can i disable "gprs always on" thing? i don't need gprs often, so it just hangs out there without a real purpose, and probably draining my battery a bit...

You can use NoData. Works well for me. Needs registration to the website:

that just lets you turn it on and off. is there any app that turns on only when needed ie you try to access the internet or get a mms messaging

WM6 should do this after a standard install...by default! Make sure you have GPRS AlwaysOn turned off (Using a Registry Editor search for "Always" and find your matching Internet Connection. Set the value of the AlwaysOn DWORD to 0, not 1.)
Let me know if you need any other help.
i press the button on the top right whenever its not in use. And of course at night.
i set the display to the 2nd bar from the left. it saves way more battery then having the bar in the middle. i turned off the beam. i set power off to 2mins and backlight out @ 30secs. i push the power button (top right) during any phone call to turn the display off. my battery can last me all day and i talk/txt alot.

I meant turn it off if you leave it overnight without charging it. My point is moot if you charge it overnight anyway.
I charge mine at work mostly, so I don't charge it overnight. Generally I do so every couple of days.

Found it..but there is not a way to actually turn off gprs if I use it for direct push correct?
ok..not to start something but if uve gone as far to buy a ext battery and ur still not happy w/ batt life sell ur device and buy a nokia they are great on battery.. u cant expect to get good battery life out of this thing..i mean look what it does...
What kind of battery life are you seeing with the WM6 BE rom? I installed it a week ago and so far I've been AMAZED as the battery life. With my reg-tweaked Cingular 2.25 stock rom I'd end the day between 45-55%. Now It's 75-80% solid.
Also, it seems that Wifi uses less power in this rom too...
As of right now I'm not using my extended battery because i wanted to go back to the original battery that came with the phone for a short time since the other battery is bulkier, I only like to use it during the weekends when I'm not close to a power source. I've used all the tips in this thread and they have all worked as my battery has been going strong. thx

How to increase battery performance?

Can someone post some tips to get a better battery performance?
I have my Touch 3G less then a week ago and the battery is during only 1.5 days with SMS and few more things...
Thanks.
what connections do you have turned on all day? i usually disable wireless lan and data connections when i dont need them, and that saves me some battery.
also set the backlight options so that the light fades out when your not using your Jade.
Avoid:
- WLAN (especially the high-power mode)
- Bluetooth on all the time
- High CPU load (like games, etc)
- Display (the brighter the higher the power consumtion)

I got them all turned off and disabled too the screen auto-adjust option and put the brightness at 1/3.
Now I got these times:
Standby: 40.5 h
Conversation: 0 h
Utilization: 4:39 h (most of the time with SMS)
And 1/5 of the battery. I think that isn't too much.
The battery was charged only two times.

I hope not.
It seems that the touchscreen spends too much battery while writing SMS!

Hi Blackaos
I am curious how you put the brightness at 1/3.
I remember there is no adjustment, just check or dont check "auto adjust backlight"...

Jade is supposed to be the best in low power usage and lasting battery power.
This is my battery performance.
1) Normal daily calls (about 20) and SMS (about 20) - last 3.5 days without charging (still about 5% left)
2) Use GPS for about 30 mins - drains about 5% of the battery
3) Use Wi-Fi for about 60 mins - drains about 5 % of the battery.
(battery % indication using ArielBattery)
Your battery probably is one of those that fails the QA level but sneak pass the QA team. You should get a replacement.

Explain that better.
My battery runs out in 2 days.
Has there been a problem with Jade's batteries?
Mine is new from last week:
- 24 standby
- 8 min talking
- 30 SMS
- 7u45min phone usage.

Switch to Flight Mode during night .
I noticed that after a few charges battery seems to last longer
Also have a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=463204
I have my 3G for over two weeks now. My battery also lasts for 1,5 days.
For example:
standby:34,6h
talk:208min
device usage: 2h,55min
I use bluetooth connection for my car-kit.
Hello,
is a problem with the sd-card.
You can testing: remove the sd-card and you have standby 200h !!
Bye

need some help pls
hi
i just bought my jade 3 days back and i want to change the SMS view from thread view to regular on my old gene i was doing this by using advanced confugrator but it does not work on this mobile its asking me to upgrade my .net
pls advise
1.how do i get the updated .net for my mobile
2.how to change the view of SMS with existing set up
kindly advise thanks in advance
What is the impact to battery performance ?
I've just got back from a holiday in France where I had consistant 3G/HSDPA coverage and got 96hrs Standby, 16min Talktime (Roaming keeps calls short!) and 4.5hrs Usage. This is about double my normal performance at home where the phone spends most of its time on (2.5) GSM. Its obvious that these phones are optimised for 3G over the older GSM system, as at home I get poor 3G reception. These figures are still far short of what is advertised in the spec on the HTC website!
To those who've just bought a new phone, the battery does improve with a few charge/discharge cycles but not a lot! Would be interested in hearing more about the SD card causing drainage and marginal battery performance caused by sub-standard batteries.
Woolly
mine can last for 5 to 6 days if only use wifi for 10 mins...

Idle data connection and battery drain

I know, I know, the following question has been answered oh so many times, but that exactly is my problem!!!
Does an idle data connection actually drain the battery faster or not? I've searched the whole forums (not just x1) and really read a lot of threads... There are people who say "yes, it does" and the opponents. I've also come across a blog-entry on MSDN where it says it doesn't.
So, which one shall it be?!
I'm pulling Mails every 60 minutes, all other data-settings are set to manually. I'm asking this because of my post in Itje's Touch-IT v.10 thread. ("auto-disconnect after..." makes a phone call end a data connection on 3g)
Best regards,
Cal
I believe it DOES drain more. Why don't you try?

Of course I will try. (especially if there's no definitive answer) But that would also mean I shouldn't play with my phone for a day - come on, seriously?
Nah, I'll see over night, post it here and then there's at least one specific thread on this from 2009. Thought i'd might ask anyway.
For me, it does NOT drain the battery more. What kills the battery for me is having IMAP IDLE enabled, which will definitely drain the battery, as it is actively using the connection, passing data. If the data connection is enabled and on, then it won't use more juice until it actually starts transmitting data. You'll want to check if any applications you have open (or running in the background) are set to "Auto Update" after a certain amount of minutes (e.g. RSS readers, Twitter apps, etc.)
See? Two answers - two statements. *lol*

imap idle? are you using a different mail client or did i miss that in pocket outlook? Oo
Nevermind. Found it, Email Scheduler and Imap Pusher - reading into it now... ^^

nope, no apps, no automatic updates (that i know of. pretty sure i disabled them all. no suspicious process in task manager as well.) except mail-pull every hour. so, i'll see tomorrow morning what my phone has to say about it.
I really think it drains the battery!
I noticed in past 2-3 weeks that my battery drains faster than before. I thought that probably it dies because i charge it every time i can: at home, in the car; I talk and use the phone a lot. I also noticed in past days that I got two "E" icons (edge) in taskbar instead of regular big "E" and antenna.
I got to conclusion that data connection drains battery faster, because i set up regular email check just recently.
The only way I found to disconnect data connection is going to Start-Settings-Connections-Comm Manager-Menu-Disconnect Cellular Data.
Can anyone provide a tip how to make it disconnect automatically after the program that required it was closed?
not after closing the program, but after a certain amount of time... there are some possible ways:
- use "bandswitch" (not free)
- use "advanced config" (free) - more settings -> connections
- with a reg editor add these keys
- ...
i'm sure you'll find many other apps to do it if you search for them on xda. these above are just the 3 ways i tried myself since i've got my phone.
okay, i lost 7% in 10 hours - so i guess an idle data connection DOES NOT drain the battery. at least for me that is.

With the data connection constantly on and mailcheck every hour?

Exactly.
- polling evey 60 minutes
- data constantly on
- gprs connection (no edge on my new carrier )
- 3 of 4 bars reception
- standby mode (phone doesn't wake up at new mail)
- cpu set at 122 mhz in standby with clock speed
but i'll have to see how it does in the next few days... and i'll give outlook email scheduler a try, for it's imap idle support. pretty sure this would increase battery drain.
And what do you guys think,
Is beeing on a hsdpa network without data connection but using the X1 drains more energy than the same circumstances but disabled hsdpa(only gprs but still not connected)?
And whats the situation when the phone is off with the both network type?

With what program can you do that?

Wlan { wifi } sleeps when phone goes to sleep. HD2

Any registry tweaks apart from mortscript to overcome this problem. Thanks
check BSBtweaks.....but keeping wifi up in sleep mode sucks your battery dry
This works but after soft reset system replace it!

Battery Eating - No Problem
Thanks for reply, WLan eating battery not a problem, as i need to sync company emails, etc 24/7. Thanks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5353195
Installs a little exe that runs at startup to restore that reg key.
But yes, this forces your phone to never enter standby anymore, giving you a max battery life of about 14 hours even when not touching it.
IF you use push e-mail via Activesync/Exchange, wifi will stay on also without the hack, and won't draw extra battery.
If you need to sync email 24/7 you'd better be doing that over data though.
