yes thats is i want to overclock my niki and and unlock but dont know how and how many mhz i can put in my niki could you help me and find the programs to do it
atm it's impossible to unlock the Niki. Have no idea about overclocking, but doesn't seem possible yet aswell. We have a support project going on where you can donate for tom_codon to get a Dual and cook the rom in order to give us all an unlocking tool. Just check the sticky thread
cheers!
Any news on Overclock or Underclock ?
Any software similar Battery Status ?
i have no idea why anyone would want to overclock this device.
think about it this way the battery life is already terrible and if ur over clock it then it is only gonna get worse. the only reason it runs slowly is because the drivers are useless on it.
once the driver updates come out if they ever do and the access to the ati gpu is enabled i think all of your speed troubles will be over.
just my opinion

Hi guys, im new to this forum and have done a lot of reading, though have not found a definitive answer to my questions:
What is the issue with the Touch HDs GPU?
Is it that Drivers have not been made by HTC and so it is not used?
What can we do to overcome this?
I have already installed the Diamond ATI drivers although they do not seem to give me performance as smooth as i have seen on other, older pocket pcs.
Thanks in advance, i would really appreciate it if someone were to clear up these things for me.

The blackstone uses the MSM72xx chipset made by Qualcomm. In theory there are drivers for that chip, but the Qualcomm policy is a bit strange. Apparently you buy the chip itself, but the drivers aren't included. So you have to pay for each driver seperatly.
Therefore HTC tries to save some money, so they haven't bought these drivers, which means that the major work is done by the cpu making the device slow (or at least slower than it could be with full hardware support).
Until now there is no real work around. We are still looking for devices with these drivers included, but so far we haven't found drivers, which make full use of the hardware.
Personally I'm wondering if those drivers really exist (for Windows Mobile (as claimed by Qualcomm)), because I can't imagine why distributers don't want to add them, as they would improve the performance dramatically.
That's the short story, you can read through this thread in order to get more information.
Thanks
So for the time being is all that we can do is wait for someone to write/port over drivers?

I guess such a low level programming can't be done without the knowhow of the chip itself.
I would like to help but the only thing i could feasibly help with is testing and benchmarks seeing as i know very little about programming and even less about low level programming
So I know we all like buying new phones and throwing out the old, but what if we wanted to upgrade the RAM or storage? Has anybody done something like this? Is there a way to take the G1 apart and add more RAM for super fast processing?
Can anybody point me in the right direction to do this? Thanks!

OK, im pullin out the knife..no no but seriously you better be saving up your pocket change for new sd cards that go up to 32 GB cause thats all the uping you can really do.
I know about the sd cards, but I mean soldering and the like.
find me a ram chip ill give it a try

I know i just added some sarcasm in there for ya mate, but no there wont be any flying, soldiers, fireing, making of any sorts on this relic its at its limits all you can do is OC and slap a custom os onto it.Also get a phone skin for it from skkinit if you want it to look unique..
Actually that's a good question. I have been checking PPCTechs.com on and off to see if they have anything like RAM or ROM upgrades for our G1s. No luck so far, so probably not gonna happen, although they do it with quite a few WM devices.
Does anyone know if it possible to overclock the CPU? Right now we aren't actually overclocking it, despite what people call it, we are only running it at it's rated speed and not underclocking it.
There was a post somewhere about overclocking to 700 something through the kernel
if someone can find me a datasheet for the ram thats in the phone, i have the equipement to replace them, i'm sure i can source another larger one but i'm not sure if the chipset will support it.
I have the G1 Tech Manual. Is that what you mean? http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=72888a5fe1278ed408f8df73f2072ed6666d6d14c3b8b109d6e38d13f15c3e80
The last 3 smart phones I have owned there has been discussion of adding more ram... and it never pans out. My 2 cents is you will be better waiting and picking up a next gen phone. The lifespan of a phone just isn't what it used to be with how advanced they are becoming.
It's really not worth the effort to upgrade the ram. Even if it was as simple as just soldering a new chip in (which it very rarely is - I don't know the specifics of the g1), this device is held back by the cpu as much as the ram and you certainly can't drop in an upgrade for that.
It might be possible to overclock the cpu, but since the g1 features no cooling system whatsoever, and no space to add one, I think you'd put it on the fast track to the scrapheap.

My best guess is that whatever chip is in the big-mem version of the MAGIC will work with DREAM. Possibly the chip that is in the HERO.
Of course note that it will be necessary to program this chip with something at some point, otherwise the act of installing a blank chip will be an obvious brick.
Hello, i am an old user here in the forums and i have been always keep quiet reading the forums etc.
I went from my Qtek s200, to HTC P3300, to HTC P3650, to HD and then i bought an iphone.
I was always anti-iphone but since i held one in my hands, with all its eye-candy applications and vivid and smooth graphics, i decided to keep it.
Recently i went to a mall and had the chance to see the HD2, and from what i could see, it wouldnt lag so much as my previous HTC devices.
From what i could see, it had the Snapdragon CPU ( correct me if i am wrong ) and it was much smoother and stuff.
So the big question is this : Are the GPU drivers implemented or is it a system bottleneck again ? I am not really interested in playing games, but i want a phone that can at least scroll through contacts and menu with no lag at all like my iphone.
If the GPU drivers are there, i will dump the iphone for sure and go HD2.
Please advice,
Thanks in advance,
Sedde
chainfire developed tweaked gpu drivers for this device, so there are, even if not "official".
Also, the difference between the device you checked at the mall, and the ones most of us are using (custom roms, stripped from useless stuff, updated drivers, registry tweaks to take advantage of the newly discovered 576MB for caching), is probably that they're definitely faster than what you could have experienced in a shop.
Obviously, you must be ready to "waste" time in order to achieve that. If you want the device ready and at best right out of the box, then the HD2 is not the best choice

Hm, that sounds attractive, ok going back to HTC, i am bored with this Apple thingie
Hey devs,
I wondered.. Why aren't there any overclocked kernels out there yet? Surely we want this baby to run as it should with a nice overclock. I mean, after seeing the news of the Xoom beeing overclocked to 1.7Ghz I kind of got disapointed with there not beeing any progress here yet.
Why is that? Isn't it possible to make custom kernels yet? Is it hard to do something like that? Or is the device just not populair enough so noone is buying this thing.
I quite like the device but I feel it is a bit quiet in here, also find that the software on the device could use loads of improvement (already made some speed improvements myself)
I would gladly be donating to anyone who comes up with some good software or kernels
I didn't read your entire post but..
we don't have the kernel source yet. samsung should be releasing it soon.. probably when the tab is released in the US.

How stupid of me. I thought it would just be as easy as making a backup of your files and then using these files and edit them. I haven't said anything then, can't wait for this thing to bbe overclocked.
I was wandering, Qualcomm released the drivers for the GPU of all Adreno snapdragon models of 2XX (this includes HD2 Adreno 200 graphics) but we don't have any real Hardware Accelerated ICS rom yet.
I know that I'm gonna be bashed with all those "Why don't you do it yourself!" wanderfull and so helpfull posts, but if this is only what you have to say, please don't even bother to post.
What I wanted to know is if we have another kind of problem besides the drivers so we can have HardAcc roms for our beloved device?
Greetings, Santroph.
I really think this should be on the DEV section, because this is a DEV question, but, since this is the question forum, here it is...
I think kernel support is needed to get full use of the ics drivers... and devs have no specific kernel source code for now... or they need some time to make the adjustements...
In any case the expectation is high

I was also wondering why it wasn't there yet, Glad you asked, Might get some things solved
Q: When will HTC HD2 get full hardware acceleration on ICS?
A: After the crow's wing crosses in front of the moon.
I agree
I'm very grateful for all the developers out there for doing everything they do for us and our HD2, but a fully-functional ICS (with hardware acceleration as well as Chrome beta) would be simply amazing. I'm just a beginner programmer, but if there's anything in my skills that can be done to help - I'd be glad to do so.
