I use to use a year ago on my dell axim, however at that time blocked contacts, be came unblocked.
May check it out again.
However does ur msn service work and is there any1 else experiencing this.
I am having the same problem with mine I am running the 2.17 custom rom I downloaded from the forums.
Pocket msn can sign in but when I sign into messenger I get to my buddy list then I get the error your getting and it hangs for a bit then signs back out.
btw I have tried agile and its unacceptably slow on my wizard. IMO its a resource hog and I only want msn messenger as I don't use the others.
My Pocket MSN has been playing up a lot this week too. Keeps droping out, or can't even connect in the first place. Is there anyway to confirm the problem is with the Pocket MSN servers?
Same for me too, and this is whether I'm using a GPRS or Wifi connection. As such, this leaves me to believe that this is more likely an MSN problem rather than T-Mobile. I might give Yahoo, Google or ICQ a try and see if their servers are any more available than the MSN ones.
same for me either thru gprs or wifi it fails. just manged to log on for 30 secs then it bombed out
mine has only ever signed in successfully once
not just me then mines been playing up all week too

ditto here
this might be the problem

http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/05/11/t-mobile_voip_ban_responds/
And the irony of it is that the TMo USA ship ROM includes Mobile MSN and Messenger as standard.... ROFLMAO
thats a ****er, thats the main thing i use mine for msm instant messaging! uses hardly any data atall??? can understand the skype voip, but i have no problems using skype im?????
There's still confusion in other forums whether the MOIP and VOIP restriction applies only to WnW Pro or also to WnW standard. It sounds stupid I know... why would more expensive WnW Pro be restricted rather than the cheaper WnW right? However, no T-Mobile staff have confirmed it either way so no one as of yet knows for sure.
I believe its a MSN network problem.
I am using it here in Canada on the FIDO network (through Rogers) and it too has been failing alot. Maybe it will come to the point that they will have to release a patch like they did on the WM2002 and Wm2003 when they started making changes. That is the risk with them updating messenger all the time I guess.
i'm having the same problem. might be msn's server
Amazing! After weeks of random "...can not establish a connection to Pocket MSN..." etc., for 3 days now I have had a rock solid connection to Pocket MSN! Only dropping out when I've lost phone signal for more than a few minutes (i.e. when on the tube).
Definitely the best reliability I've experienced since I began using it at the beginning of the year. That said, on Monday I did upgrade my ROM from my original T-Mobile UK (01.04.10) to CUSTOM_RUU_Prodigy_2170702_217_20710_TMO_US.exe. I've gone from 10 random re-boots a day to zero! And everything feels a lot faster and more reliable even after loading it up again with all my old tools and apps etc.
So I guess I'm none the wiser as to whether the flaky Pocket MSN was the fault of MSN servers, the T-Mobile network, or my dodgy ROM, or all of the above. Regardless, here's hoping it lasts!
how do i install the hacked version of aim 2.0. Help me plz im newb. I don't see any file that i can install or transfer to my mda.
In my opinion, u are wasting your time with it. There really isn't a good TCPIP based AIM solution for WM5 in my opinion. All of them drop the connection consistently and if you are using GPRS/EDGE you are automatically disconnected when you receive/make a call. From what I understand, this is normal with GPRS.
The closest thing I have found that works most of the time is Verichat. It will use SMS (when needed) to somehow make things work when the Verichat app is not open. I have discovered that even that app is not 100% reliable because I have missed many IM's that vanished into thin air literally. Not to mention they charge a yearly fee.
Still waiting for the ultimate IM application but in the meantime, I have found Verichat to be the best. And I have tried all I could find including AOL 2, IM+ and Agile. Maybe I am expecting too much.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to just get unlimited texting?
thanks for cross posting
The company I work for recently (3 months ago) bought 3 ATT 8525's for people who travel. All 3 of the phones have this issue where when they go into their power save mode, and they will not send or receive Email or produce notifications about new email. It appears to me that when the phones go into this power save mode they turn off the wireless card in the phone. I have made every effort to figure this out myself but I finally broke down and called ATT who then transfered me to HTC. HTC told me that this is a bug in the phone and that they do not have a solution for it other than trying Windows Mobile 6. However, since ATT has not released WM6 for the 8525, and I don't feel like bricking a phone, the company decided to go ahead and buy the ATT 8925, hopping that the new phone wouldn't have this problem. Unfortunately it dose.
So getting down to my question. Does anyone know how to get these phones to send and receive Email, through WIFI and not the cell network, when they are in their power save mode?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Oh and BTW, after toying around with the 8925 I do have to say that the new features included in the phone are quite nice, hate the chrome though.
Thanks
Via WiFi? No. You wouldn't like the battery life if it did.
Battery life
I don't really care about that right now. I'm just looking for a solution to the problem i am currently having.

you need to disable the at&t proxie to use wifi to send mail/etc
To have the wifi alwayz on even in standby is not wise, you batter will die fast ......
I have no issues using Active sync with exchange 2007 i get emails even when in power save maybe you should get some exchange accounts

You don't understand the gravity of what he told you. The battery life would literally be 2-3 hours.
Manually pressing the power button and tapping 'check for new messages' is a much better solution than being completely unable to access email for 3/4 of the workday because the battery has died.
Think about it.
Also, on your install CD, you'll find some AT&T software to push email to the phone automatically, waking up the phone using SMS. And, as other people have suggested, these phones were designed with Microsoft Exchange in mind and setting up an Exchange server would also help your problem.
Thank you for the replies.
Dose the "push" feature work with non exchange email servers. The only reason I ask is because we don't have an exchange server.

I took a look at this and it seems to describe the problem i have very well. In regards to the battery life, is there a way to have the WIFI turn on when its time to check mail and then turn off after its finished? I would really like these phones to be using WIFI most of the time even though we have an unlimited data plan, WIFI just seems to be faster.

ringy2 thank you. I'll take a look at that.
You know I have been working off of the thread linked above and I have gotten the phone to the point where it seems to be checking our mail server over GPRS/3G (I have turned the WIFI antenna off). The problem now is that the when it goes to check messages it won't DL any new ones that may be on the server. Any ideas?
Do you not have unlimited data with at&t? If you do then there is absolutely no reason not to leave wifi off and just use that for email. As for checking emails and not getting anything new. You need to adjust the settings for your account.
surrept, Yes we have an unlimited data plan and at this point i have given up on getting the phone to check via WIFI. As for the settings, what are you refering to? I have the account setup and i have configured it exactly how it is supposed to be. i have it DLing full copies of messages w/ no attachments, and it is set to check mail every 5 min (will change this back to 15 once i have finished testing).
Um, BTW - AT&T did release WM6 for the 8525... VERY much worth it. However, I'm still going for a 8925 for the doubled RAM/ROM & GPS...
I highly doubt that. Again i have looked in every deep dark place that the internet has and haven't found any WM6 ROM that I can DL from ATT site. you are probably referring to the "official" ATT ROM that i have seen floating around. Im not going to put that on these phones because, one I work for a descent size company and I don't want to be breaking any law and such on there behalf. Two I don't feel like bricking any of these phones. I want the warranty to be valid on them. If it was my personal phone i might try it. but since these are the companies phones it ain't gonna happen.
VeriChat's gone, which causes problems for me! I have a hermes without a data plan, but unlimited text.
Does anyone know of an AIM and/or MSN client or multi-protocol client that uses SMS instead of data to send IM's? I've been out of luck with searching and getting a little desperate. Before I had service on my phone, I used IM+ after Agile, but without data I don't dare use them unless I'm in wifi with GPRS disabled. I've heard of IM forwarding, but I'd rather have a client with a buddy list.
Any help would be appreciated! I tried to search the forums, but my queries were too small with just AIM, IM and SMS.
Bump i got same question anyone?
The OZ app from ATT.
I've heard generally bad things about OZ's speed since it isn't hardcoded into the device, with IM delays of sometimes two minutes or more! Harsh.
I'm new to using messengers on the phone, as I've only recently gotten service (It'd just been a PDA for seven months until my CDMA contract expired) and I was really hoping to get some kind of AIM or MSN client that uses solely SMS for connecting and sending messages.
Is there nothing I can use? I'm getting slightly desperate.
Hi, I need some help on deciding if I should get a HTC Touch or not. I have a Nextel/Sprint Hybrid ic902 currently but I played with my friend's iPhone and I like it. I wanted to get a PDA/Smartphone and the closest thing would be the Touch. I played with it at the Sprint store and it seems pretty nice. I don't really use my Nextel Direct Connect that much so I might want to switch over. I use over 500 texts a month and I check my Gmail periodically. I might want to use AIM if its capable on the HTC Touch. So if you guys can help me out with deciding to get the phone or should I wait and see what else Sprint comes out with. Tell me what you guys think. Thanks in advance for anybody who helps.
I had to make the exact same decision, and I decided to go with the touch, for several reasons.
First, I use the phone as a PDA as much (or even moreso) as a phone. You can't beat the syncing of the Touch. I use Sherweb for a hosted Exchange 2007 server (about $8 a month). I enter something in Outlook or on the web interface, and it shows up on my phone. Or, I enter a new contact in my phone, it shows up on my desktop. I *never* have to plug in my phone to sync it. Also, the Touch is much more customizable and has 3rd party apps. The iPHone has no apps without hacking right now, and I'm sure it's going to be a pain and expensive when they do finally come out. Also, EVDO >> EDGE for streaming (you can use vTap for Youtube, and Sprint TV comes on there).
However, the iPhone is a much better media player.
So, if you want a phone to play MP3s and videos, go iPhone. If you want it more as a business tool, go Touch.
What put it over for me was the price. I got the Touch for $250 after rebate, and a $30 SERO plan (500 minutes, unlimited text, data). The iPhone is gonna cost you $400 and run you $60 a month with only 200 text - you'll have to upgrade to get to 500.
So, now, you can do what I did. I got the Touch on SERO, and justified spending some of the $870 I'll save over 2 years and bought the $300 iPod Touch
I have a great media player, and the better phone., and still saved $600.

Well I will have to buy the Touch from like eBay and pay like $300...And I get 25% discount from UPS off my bill...I was wondering how would get my contacts off of my SIM card to the HTC Touch..?..And I would be using Gmail for my email..Is it hard to get Gmail on the phone..?
Ah, forgot to mention the iPhone has the better browser. I mostly only browse news sites, which format well on the HTC Touch. If I have Wi-Fi available, I use my iPod Touch. Otherwise, I just make do with NetFront. Hopefully, Opera Mobile 9.5 will put the Sprint Touch more inline with the iPhone.
Getting the contacts off the SIM depends on what kind of phone you have. Can you sync it do a computer? If so, you can import them into Outlook. If not, you might be stuck. There are some USB SIM readers, I think, but I don't know how much they cost. Since you can just type the contacts into a computer (instead of keying them on the phone), if you don't have 100s of contacts, you might just be best off typing them in manually.
Getting Gmail on the Touch is easy. You can use IMAP or POP3, whichever you prefer. Obviously, IMAP is the best. Don't know what it does to your battery life, but I have mine on push mail, and I still have about 70% of the battery left when I go to bed (maybe down to 50 if I did a lot of surfing). IMAP should be comparable. (In contrast, my Moto Q was on push mail - I took it off the charger at 7am and it was completely dead by 10pm). Anyway, mail is easy on either phone.
Go to a sprint store they will do it for free.

Cool. I have to try the ShareWeb to see what it's Like. That sounds awesome.
My two cents on the issue:
-iPhone doesn't have Bluetooth. (I use blutooth like crazy. I use the Motorola S9 stereo Bluetooth headset with the touch and also I got a Stereo Bluetooth receiver from Sony that I've installed in the car. So the touch is my media player at the Gym and in the Car. Its awesome.) You should install the HTC Adio Manager. It's not anything close to the iPhone's Media Player, but gets the job done.
-iPhone's Internet speed is really bad (unless you use the WiFi). GPRS vs EVDO and Soon RevA. It's no Brainer.
-The memory Card:with iPhone you can't increase the memoy size. You are stuck with 8GB max. With the Touch for now the largest is 8GB microSD, but you can have multiple of those. Maybe soon they will come out with larger cards than that.
I also heard people having problems when the phone goes in standby mode that they don't receive calls and stuff...Is this true..?
i get calls in standby an the new opera browser and the picsel browsers are awesome. I have no iphone envy. I dont even feel the need to copy its theme haha. The way I look at it, if you want a media player grab the iphone, if you want a handheld computer grab the touch. (I use it to freehand draw all the time)

Honestly some people have problems others don't. I haven't had many of the problems many people have talked about and if they did they only happened once or twice. I love my touch and wouldn't change it for any other phone that sprint has right now.
Took the Plunge
Well - I took the plunge. I have two T-Mobile MDA's that are showing their age.
Went shopping. I was turned off by T-Mobile's inability to get a 3G network going. I saw the spec's on the Kaiser and loved it. But money drove me to Sprint. I get a 25% cut in the cellular plan thanks to my job. Kinda hard to pass that up. So it came down to the Titan or Vogue.
I chose the CPU & RAM boost. I dont think I will miss the WiFi. If RevA is as fast as I have been hearing...I should be happy. I'm coming from EDGE Speed, so anything should look like an improvment.
I ordered two of them today from LetsTalk.com and I should get them by Friday. I guess I will join the rest in "THE GREAT ROM WAIT" waiting for the GPS/REV A to get unlocked even tho I do have a BT GPS receiver I got for the MDA's
I guess I will update my Signature after I get the new toys
Gratz on the choice, but I question your sanity for buying from Let's Talk. I assume the Touch is "free" after rebate. Just be sure to mark your calendar, because you usually have to send it in between 180 and 210 days after purchase, or something like that. Then expect to wait another 6 months for the money to show up. Besides that nonsense, they royally screwed up my port, and then delayed shipping. I was without a phone for a week, very annoying.
Anyway, since it's too late for you, I hope you enjoy the phone anyway
1st time around went ok
I purchaced the two MDA's from them and all went well. Made an issue of sending the rebates the day I received them. 2.5 months later the checks arrived. The whole "REBATE" thing is good business....so many people dont fill them out.
As for porting.... I guess I will find that out soon. Porting both #'s
Porting is a pain, I work as Tech Support for the local cable company and we offer digital phone service.....porting #"s is a crapshoot sometimes.
**********UPDATE************
The Phones have shipped Should get them Tuesday

I had a problem with my phone not waking from sleep until I disabled the time syncronization (under phone settings). My phone was freezing at least daily and, since disabling synchronization, it's been solid for three weeks.

Yeah what he said... I had a Motorola v551 and just transferred the contacts over to my new Bell Touch (Actually its a Vogue... go figure). It was a pain to xfer them individually but hey why not...
Also I have only had my Touch a grand total of 5 1/2 days and already i dont know how i lived WITHOUT it!
If you have some iPhone/Blackberry envy like I did but want something more out of the phone then the Touch is the wayyyyy to gooooO!
Hope that helped sway your decision!
I have the touch and love it. 4gb mem card full of music no need for ipod. Highly customizable w/ free apps, Blue tooth with Jaybird gear headphones. Love it and can't put it down which is why it's 3:00 am and still mesing withit!
