Using PPC without touchpad ? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi. I crashed my wizard´s display. LCD works, but touchpad is broken. I want to reboot the device and controll it via remote-sw from pc. Does anyone know, how to skip the lcd-configure-process after hard-reset. This is the point where I can´t continue because of the non-working touchpad... Thanks for your help ! Buy the way: Did anyone changed touchpad succesfull ? Has to be brazed !?

Try mymobiler http://www.mymobiler.com/ I am not sure if it will install before while asking to set up the touch pad but it is worth a try. I figured this maybe good because it does not ask to be installed on the device.

Thank you dwertz for your help. I tried, but "mymobiler" can only by installed after finishing the setup process on ppc. mhhh....

Try this.
http://www.codefactory.es/downloads/mobile_speak_pocket/Remote_ScreenAlignment_Manual.doc

connect the device using active sync then use windws explorer and explorer the device ,go into the windows folder on your device and delete the welcome.ink file, then soft reset and it wont bug you again till you hard reset.
you should also check this link out as you can use software to align the screen remotely
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=347539&highlight=bypassing+screen+alignment

i had the same problem with my wizard. i got around pretty much everything, the only thing i can think of that i never figured out how to work with the keyboard is the alarm clocks. other than that with the arrow keys and tab button you should be set.
as far as getting it fixed, i found a replacement touch matrix and replaced it myself. i do not reccommend this as it caused a TON of headaches and still doesn't work right to this day. if i were you try getting a lcd/touch screen combo on ebay, its not too bad to open it and replace it.

Cracked touch screen - skip align screen

Hi guys,
My touch screen is cracked and unfortunately I did a hard reset. Everything was working perfectly before but I wanted to clean up my phone before I receive new touch screen and fix it.
Now when I turn the phone on, it asks me to do alignment of the screen. Unfortunately I can't do that because my touch screen doesn't work properly. However, there is only 1 or 2 spots which respond to touch.
My question is: can I skip/pass this step (align the screen) and get inside the phone to use it without the touch screen as I could before hard reset?
Thank you very much for any replies and suggestions,
Tom
After hard reset, connect the phone to the PC
The PPC will stop at the align touch screen bit obviously - but active sync will still allow you to set up a partnership.
Set up a partnership and navigate to Windows\Startup on the device
Delete Welcome.lnk from that directory.
Soft Reset
The welcome program where you align the screen and are forced to prove to Microsoft that you don't actually fall to the floor in a confused fit because right clicking is tap and hold, should not run.
Let me know if that works, as I've never actually tried it.
thanks
Lewis

Hi,
thank you for suggestion but i can't delete this file. it says: "Cannot delete file welcome: The file may be in read-only memory, on a write-protected disk, or currently in use by another application." Probably it's the last thing that blocks deleting b/c after restarting a phone the screen pops-up saying "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile-based device"
What else can i do in that case?
Thank you,
Tom
Hmm its only a shortcut so it can't "be in use". Its only a symbolic link to another file.
Don't know to be honest - can you not remove the read only attribute (right click properites)? Try that. If i think of anything else Ill let you know.

I can't change any attributes. When i checked properties it says it's a system file and all attributes are grey.
I will try what it's said on the website that yuou pointed.
Thank you,

ok, i tried the solution described in this article . Downloaded a program called Remote Screen Alignment from this website. File is placed in the very bottom section of the site. If you want to use this program, I suggest to download User's Manual placed below as well.
After installing this program on your computer, run it and chose one of the options. Program has few features that you might want to use in the futer. One that I used was SKIP, basicaly to avoid the Align Screen step after hard reset because my touch screen is broken.
Once again thank you BigDamHero for your help.
Please feel free to ask me if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Tom

I tried these programes but what can I do if my phone doesn´t have any working point on touch screen? So, I can´t pass the step "Tap the screen to set up..."
Thanks for your answer.
The problem is new ROMs didn't activate USB serial Sync Mode at beginning. Insteead of this is RNDIS Sync Mode or some other things. So, activesync wasn't activated.

Help installing x-button cab

I have a t-mobile Vario III and the x-button worked fine from the title bar until i installed pocket plus 4, now having removed pocket plus as the UI seems much more responsive without it i have lost my x button from the top right of the screen :-(
In settings i have the boxes checked to enable it both for tapping and also to be on the home screen but its not there.
I went into settings and did a factory restore and now the x-button icon is gone from system settings completely !!
I have tried to install the x-button 2.0 cab from here without success as it just wont let me install it, either onto device or storage. (the original version on the device was 1.51)
Its really starting to bug me now lol so i`d be very grateful if anyone could help !
Thanks guys

Try this one:
HTC X Button (Task Manager)
htc/X-Button-1.5.cab
Mike
Nope that doesn`t work either, it wont even try to install that one, unlike v2 which it at least tries to install before telling me it wasn`t successful.
Many thanks for trying tho

Remote Desktop on HD, toggle fullscreen

Hi forum-users,
I´m new to this forum, it´s great, thanks to all posters.... I´m german, please excuse my weak english.
I searched the forum for a solution for my problem, but didn´t find it:
I´m using the built-in software "Remote Desktop", and it works fine, except that I´m not able to switch between fullscreen-mode and the mode where i have menus and can use the onscreen-keyboard.
How can I toggle between fullscreen-mode and non-fullscreen-mode.
Non of the 7 keys of the touch HD seems to have this function.....
thanks a lot for your advices.

- Do you have remote function enabled on target-device?
- Do you have specified an account for remote?
- Firewall rule active for remote-desktop?
- Can you connect a shared folder via Mobile Explorer?
Please check these points.

Hi D-Jay
Thanks for your answer.
Indeed all points you mentioned are fine cos I use my second PC (client) to get to the server trough RDP. So I dont know why it doesnt work with the mobile.
I tried to connect with the same account I am using from the client PC, so it should work, doesnt it?

try double tap the screen to go to full screen, if there isn't a menu.
Hi buggybug0,
thanks for Your reply.
I already tried double tapping on the screen, also I tried long tapping/holding on then screen. Up to now I didn´t find any way to toggle from fullscreen to ´normal´ screen.
Any further ideas?

ahh.. well my HD won't arrive till friday, and i just sold my TyTn. umm.. try putting the stylus at all four corners, and/or all four edges (middle of the edge) to see if it brings up a hidden menu. I know on win xp desktop version of the Remote Desktop has the menu auto hide at the middle top of the screen, may be the same thing?
sorry, since i don't have any device, i'm just shooting blanks, may not work
Hi buggybug0
thanks for Your efforts
I putted die stylus to all corners, middles, long, short, tapping, holding, double-tapping.... I can´t find any way to return from fullscreen to non-fullscreen.....:-(
I also know the behavior of the desktop-version of RDP, unfortunatly it is not the same way on mobile...
Maybe You will find a solution when You have Your own HD
Thanks

I have the same problem, if you go full screen you're not getting out of full screen without killing the application! I think another issue with no hard soft keys.
I even dont get a connection
How did you set up your LAN? What Windows is on the PC you connect?
Did you configure something special on the PC to get it working?

Hi Ascenca83
the connection itself worked at once.
PC: WIN XP SP3, conntected to a LAN through cable, fixed ip-Adress, MY COMPUTER, PROPERTIES, REMOTE, [X] ALLOW USERS TO ESTABLISH A REMOTECONNECTION
Touch HD: Remote Desktop, IP-Adress, Connect..., User/Password, and it works.
But the problem, that I can´t get out of the fullscreen, and therefore can´t use the virtual keyboard, still exists....
hth
AsterX
Found the problem. Strangely the Touch HD had problem with my wpa-psk key. Had to set a new one and update the time setting of the router and then it worked.
With wpa2-psk I wasnt able to get a connection at all. Unsupported??
I tried RDC and got 'Internal Error'
Anyone know what this means?
Hmmm weird, to access the network I have to go into IE and type \\SERVER\ but despite the fact this opens the file manager it doesn't work directly in file manager!!!
If I browse to a folder on my server, I cannot then go back to \\SERVER\ afterwards without going via IE again!
What's with that!!!! Might expain why RDC doesn't work though.
Probably we need to contact HTC support and ask?
Who is the developer of this RDP mobile? Microsoft?
Or maybe just wait couple of months for Win Mo 6.5 Probably they fixed there.
Cant wait that looooooong
Is there really no solution for it to go fullscreen on this lovely portable screen?
Any alternative programs?
Ascenca
I think, there should be another solution for this problem than waiting for WIN6.5;-)?
The Touch HD is because of its large screen a great tool for a RemoteDektopClient. But without beeing able to work in fullscreen-mode, a great part of the worth of an bis screen is gone...
Does HTC have a good working support-hotline via email?
Thanks

AsterX, don't worry, i still remember you. infact, the first thing i tried when i got my phone was RemoteDesktop. Now I see your problem, i couldn't find a solution.. yet. for the sake of other the issue is this:
in mobile remote desktop client, when you log on using non-full screen, then go to full screen with connection still being alive, you cannot get out of full screen. of course you can also choose to go into full screen as the client connects, but the problem still exists -> if you are in full screen now, you can't get out of it.
this problem never came to mind because my previous PPC had a keyboard. i still be poking around on this issue.
Hi buggybug0
yes, You exactly described the problem.
Additionally, when you are in fullscreen-mode, you cant reach the virtual keyboard
So you can't type anything, if You are in fullscreen-mode..., and you can't leave the fullscreen-mode without cutting the connection
Thanks

How to reset WM on touchscreen-broken PDA

I've got an Hermes with a broken touchscreen. I hard reset it and now it is stuck on the screen saying "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile based device." I tried pressing all the buttons and doing hard and soft resets, but nothing will get me past that screen.
Anyone have any ideas to get past that first screen? Is there some way that I could access it through my PC and modify some file that would make it think that I had set it up already? (I flashed it with wm6 if that makes any difference.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also I tried to delete welcome.* files, but it is impossible due to ROM protection.
Very simmiliar to my problem is this thread:

I wish you hadn't said that!! It's nearly three years since wrote that piece and 've forgotten more than I remember.
I ass ume when you say you tried soft resets, you mean doing a soft reset after a hard reset but before it gets to the screen alignment stage?? If not then try it (but I guess you have)
I notice the the website for remote alignment has been updated. It may be worth gong to the first link and getting the device specific application rather than the older one I gave in a link.
There were several threads on this in the past, it may be worth searching on remote alignment.
It wll probably take me as long to track the problem as you, I'll see if I get time later.
Mike
Thank you very much!
Not sure this will be much help, but some more ideas perhaps:
I have done some searching, but only found a couple of cases where folk were getting the same error as you. In those cases it appeared to be that they were using Vista (and therefore not Active Sync) or they were connected but without a complete Active Sync pairing. There is also the suggestion that connecting as "Guest" is not productive.
The summary of the routine things to try appears to be:
1
Enter data to the WM registry from PC. Find a key by this name or similar.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH]
"CalibrationData"="1922,1957 3330,639 3317,3276 600,3230 609,677
(This data varies according to screen size and therefore devices differ, though it hardly matters if the screen is totally unresponsive.)
2
Use the codefactory remote alignment program – BUT
Use XP not vista
Pair up with Active Sync but not as “GUEST”
3
Navigate to the windows directory on the PPC and delete file called welcome.exe If it will not delete, try re-naming it.
4
Create a blank file on you pc called welcome.not and place it on the root of your storage card.

Sometimes we get that "warm glowing feeling all over"!
Mike
Well, I'd like to post some of my oservations concerning this problem...
Remote Screen Alignment really works. But! It works (as I suppose) only in situations, when Windows/Startup Folder is present (or some files in this folder). I'm not sure, but it may be.
If this folder is missing, try to put welcome.not simple text file in the root folder of your mobile storage.
In my case, this folder was absent so I had a frustrating exception handler (as I might guess).
Good luck, guys .

You are looking for an app called MyMobiler. This will do what you need it to do.
Thanks and yeah I found it after research. Now, can it connect to phone automatically? Or do I have to turn it on from phone? Screen being dead and all.
Sent from my Evo
Well you still have to install it but that won't really be possible if you can't go to the right directory and run the .cab. Unless it was already installed on your phone, then I think you will be able to, depends on what the settings were. Give it a try. And if you really need to access your phone you will have to buy a new LCD screen. If the touch screen doesn't work, you will need a digitizer also.
here is a list of them on ebay. pick the one you want:

You can always look for an exe installer and you can install this via ActiveSync. I would tell you to reflash the roms or do a hard reset but you will get stuck at the Stylus calibration...
I think you are correct, you need a new screen...
