This has gotten to be very annoying, whenever I'm using the physical keyboard, some keys, specially those at the top row, do not work. I used to be able to type by simply lightly tapping the keys, but now I have to press down on them with quite a bit of force. I got this problem after I installed the December ROM so I'm guessing there's a connection. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Just one key.
I have the problem with the "Y". otther than that I have no other problems with the keyboard.
I dont remember when it started, I just noticed it because every time I typed "yes" in messaging people would ask me why did I wrire "es".
No problems here. Although I only use it for typing here and there and for playing COD2 and Snow Rally City Stage. I figure that the keyboard isn't the most durable feature of this phone so i am very gentle with it. Do you have it insured?

Yeah I do. Doesn't seem like it's a common problem so I guess I'm going to have to call customer service. It's gotten much worse. About one in every four letters don't come up when I type.
I just type away on mine (when I am not lazy and use my touchpal). My 6700 was durable and so far my keyboard seems fairly robost considering how many times I slide it out and tap away...
This is the first thread I have seen regarding a potentially faulty keyboard.
i noticed it too with my 0/. button
my 'D' button
I have the same problem with my 'D' button. Otherwise works great.
got it replaced
Took it to my local repair store and had to wait a couple of weeks because the moguls are back ordered.

I have an oddity... when using the slideout keyboard, I have to press hard, past the clicky feeling, to get some characters to show up. Is this a bum unit? Anyone have any suggestions?
sheesh, for this kind of money, you'd think there'd be some quality control.
Thanks in advance

Sounds like it may be one of the dodge models... What's your model number? (under the battery, in HERM6xx format)...

This is one of the known problems of early TyTNs (I think up to at least serial numbers 630F... devices). Mine had the same problem - however, after a few days of use it almost disappeared.
It's definitely not something that can be fixed by a software update. You may want to give your device a few more days, and if that doesn't help, send it back for an exchange.
Cheers
Daniel
I found that as you used the keyboard more, the more responsive it became. If I used letters infrequently they can need a firmer push. Over the last month the keyboard has become better and better
My first Vario II had a couple of keys ('a' and 'e') which had this problem. I found it a little annoying because I am quite light on the keyboard so I was missing letters out all the time in texts.
I have since had the phone replaced because it developed the alignment problem and my replacement Vario II keyboard is perfect, it does not require any extra effort at all on any key.
It seems some are more sensitive than others.
Generally it does seem like the buttons require more force than the ones on a HTC Wizard. I think it's something you just get used to after you use the device for a while. I'm still going back and forth between my two devices so am constantly reminded of the differences between the two.
I'm using my ADP daily but I'm no heavy keyboard user so it really surprised me, that my spacebar is giving out.
I noticed, that mysteriously my words weren't separated by a space anymore. First I thought it was just a little bit laggy but when I tested the spacebar I found that the left side only works when I press it way past the click. It's just 7 months old...
Am I the only one or is this a common problem for the G1 users out there?

yeah im having the same problem too, its only on one side of the bar that does it and its the side always use
Wierd. Mine started doing this too!! My right side doesn't always work.
if you dont have ins. cnn.cn sells the replacement part you need for that.
So then the cause is the inner keyboard PCB: http://cnn.cn/shop/tmobile-inner-keyboard-p-5056.html ?
Same problem here
Same problem here :-(
Has anybody tried to replace the inner keyboard PCB? Is it difficult? any advice before turning my ADP1 in a paperweight?
Thanks!
I loved everything about this Phone until today. Today is the day I tried to access ebay from my Phone. Brought up the page in only a few seconds, good start. Pinch to zoom working well, excellent.
username in without too much trouble.
Password.... it took me 20 mins to get this in due to the ****ty sensitivity on the screen. I was almost at the point of throwing it against the wall.
I have the sensitivity fix installed, is there proper solution for this problem or some way to make the screen much more accurate for typing?

what was the problem?
clicking the password field (I just find you have to be quite zoomed in, in opera it seems to ignore clicks to fields unless the fields have been zoomed in on.)
or typing the password on the keyboard because it has no auto text correction? (I dont really find this a problem to be honest, I use a large number of numbers, letters uppercase and lowercase and symbols and aslong as I dont type it too fast and think about each key I will always type it right first time)
getting into the fields wasnt too bad with zoom. The problem was multiple taps. When I type a key sometimes It also puts on all the keys around it, seems to be a bit random - I havent got sausage fingers either.
It may be worse for me as I had a touch HD before this and the resistive screen was very accurate, may just need more time to acclimatise.
you probably should go into notes and try drawing lines around, if they aren't really straight or if by pressing in one spot you have the cursoir drawing all around your fingertip, then it's probably still something to do with warranty servicing
Me, on the other side, never ever had any problem with sensitivity at all, all the contrary I think that if I had to install the sensitivity patch it would be way more unpleasant to use the phone, I like the sensitivity as it is now
:S hmm that sounds a bit weird, I don't really have much of a problem with key accuracy.
are you typing your password too fast? might help if you slow it down, instead of retyping it ten times, take 5 times longer to type it the first time and you have already cut down the time it takes you by a lot
Get the original stylus from HTC and try again. If it happens with the stylus too the screen is fu.....
This is going to be a random suggestion
Do you have any Task Managers installed? Such as Dutty's/Touch X or Appelflap's or anyone that put an icon in the top right of your screen.
If so, try uninstalling them and see if this a has any positive affect on your typing.
We'll deal with a replacement Task Manager later
when I move quickly accross the page it is fine, when moving slowly its absolutely terrible, akin to sizeometer earthquake 9 on the ricter scale. I am using Laurentius26 GoldEdition V2.1, I will flash back to stock and see what that is like.
this is what I am getting, exactly..!

Have you tried using a different rom, if a new rom doesnt fix it there must be some hardware failure since that is not standard behaviour for the screen. I have just performed the same test on my phone and I get near perfect straight lines even while varying the pressure on the screen.
You say you have a fix installed is it this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604831
I had the none ghost fix installed but realised I have both problems. Just uninstalled and installed the ghost+sense fix and reset....
no change
will try a new ROM, if no change then I am going to send it back to VODA, this was a "nearly new" phone on their swap scheme, got it free on £20.month, seemed to good to be true and was.
Watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egVn2HvexhQ&feature=related). It may be the case that your HD2 needs to be sent for repair as it may just be defective.
Did you try running no task managers? I presume that it did not help.
Send it off and explain it's unusable in this state.
put stock new ROM on from Voda, a lot better by far. It must either be the ROM, the fix or Zoomer which is causing this. I wonder if anyone else has has this problem, i will log this on the ROM thread.
still having problems with this, not as bad as before, think i am going to send it back and cancel the contract, I think this phone although beautiful is not fit for purpose.
Recently (starting hours ago) When i try to text and use the physical keyboard it jumps around. It may scroll up the message or go over to send or things like that. I have taken my screen protector off (great, now i buy another one) and wiped it all down but it still does it.
I also reset it a few times.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I am getting the same thing. I think something is conducting on the capacitive screen as when I set the phone down or don't touch it at all, this never happens.
So should i exchange it?
I don't know. Like I said mine seems to do the same thing. I am not sure if it requires exchanging or if my fingers are brushing the side in a way they shouldn't. I'm open for suggestions myself
Hmm no mine just jumps up the text page like it scrolls the chat message up even if nothing is touching the screen.
Same thing here. Used to happen with my old myTouch but it was after a couple months of use. Uncool for it to happen on the G2 just after the 14 days have passed.
It is probably the capacitive pad thats not working right. Its probably detecting heat and scrolling on its own.
Yes get a replacement.
It's the touchpad. Move to a room with different lighting and try again.
I second the touchpad. It messes me up in the terminal by sending special characters.

I did notice it was the light now. Still does it sometimes tho.
Thanks. What do you guys mean by captive ? Heat ?
Mine does this randomly too, and I've also concluded it's the trackpad. One time I went to my home screen while it was doing it and I could watch the selection scrolling from left to right.
Haven't figured out how to fix it, usually if I lock then unlock the phone it works fine.
Mine just started doing this today. I was sitting under the A/C and i noticed whenever i would try to swype during SMS text messaging, it would highlight "Send" in orange or it would highlight and scroll up the text thread. After I moved away from the A/C, it stopped doing this. my trackpad has been fine and I have never had any issues prior to this or even after moving away from the A/C vent.
This trackpad works on heat I would guess or like others have said, possibly electrical ground current which is probably by a grid I would imagine.
Thats kinda bad for you guys. I havent had this problem at all but seems like a trackpad problem. This happen to me on my g1 onces and that was a dirty trackball

My friend just got a Nexus 4. When she is using the keyboard and hits the backspace quickly to erase lots of words, lines appear around the sides and bottom of the screen. The keyboard digitizer then appears to be off. If she hits the letter "b", it registers a "g", etc. Once she minimizes the keyboard and brings it back it works ok until she hits the backspace key again.
She tried installing Swiftkey but had the same result. I then installed Paranoid Android on her N4 and still have the same problem. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas? She might have to call google to get a replacement. I have had my N4 since release and never had this issue.

Hey! So i work at a phone shop and we get this problem in all the time, there is 2 things that can be causeing this problem. one being that you have a broken/damaged conecter at witch the screen its self conects to the phone. two being that the digitizer is defective or has dead touch receptor (meaning that it pick up touch in a different place than you intended it to. i would recomend contacting google and claiming it under warrenty. if that fails, you may need to take it in and get a new digitizer. Hope This Helps!! :fingers-crossed:
