data usage charges. - Networking

I use a cingular 8125 and tmobile- voice plan only no texting or web
I have wifi(internet connection) at home
once i am in a wifi, and browsing the web. do i get charged for data usage from my service provider(tmobile)?
or once im using windows messenger or third party messenger on a wifi connection do i get charged for text messages?
thanks

no a pda connected to wifi works just the same as a pc connected to wifi
it dont mean one pay for internet other then the internet one pay for of ones wifi
but sms use gsm unless one send them from a free sms website

thank you. so It wont charge for texting, or data usage once i am on a wifi network. the only reason i had this concern was my friend said ya man. and his dumb ass never used a pda. LOL

sms is a service which goes from 1 phone to another
if you normal sms from your phone it will charge you
the internet cant connect you to phones unless they are on the internet
so to sms over the internet one needs to connect to a service which let your sms out of the internet so to speak
wifi is for your pda 100% thing as it is for your pc
your phone operator will not even know you are online when you are connected to wifi
any pda with wifi can connect to the internet that way it dont even have
to be a phone

I found that even when I am connected to a WiFi connection, when I used either the browser or Windows Messaging, I got a data charge on my AT&T bill. In order to make absolutely sure that this does not happen again, I disable the cellular service under the Comm Manager when I want to use WiFi. I had thought that the WiFi would take precidence over the cellular service, but I could not find any way to configure this, so I just turn off the cellular service. It's a pain, but at least I don't get the data charges.

My advice is to alter the gprs ap name (ofnew.fr -> ofnew.ten.fr) so it can't use it.

Internet while one phone?

Is it possible to be able be connected to 3G, Edge etc while talking on the phone...I tether my 8525 to my carPC and everytime i get/make a phone call the connection disconnects. Anyway to keep the connection?
I've found that when connected via GPRS the the connection drops but when using 3G it stays open.
i had the same issue, i was running aim on my 8525, and i couldnt make a phone call for some reason... so i had to shut down aim, and then make the call?
by the way, did you get to tether ur 8525 to ur laptop becauseyou have laptop data plan? or can i do this with my unlimite PDA data plan?
Edge/gprs = NO
3g/UTMS/Hsdpa = YES.
Pretty simple google search:

data connections?

just starting to play with my hd, when sending an email or browsing the web is there a way to set what method is used i,e, wireless if in range or the orange mobile network, which i will be charged for?
i think by default, if you have wifi connection, it will connect to internet through there before trying to use the mobile network provider's internet.
Does anyone know for certain? Could work out costly on guess work
Yes, it always uses wifi first.
Thanks for the info, I will keep a close eye on my bill just to be on the safe side

Stop the mobile web connecting with WiFi on

Hi all, recently had a HD, about 4 days ago i think. Already put custom icons on etc. One thing is bothering me however.
I am on O2 contract, with (recently) unlimited web bolt-on. However, when i am connected to my home Wifi connection, the 3G/GPRS mobile web seems to want to connect itself aswell. When i am in the communications window, i have the 6 tabs, airplane, phone, bluetooth, wifi, push and data connection. I presume that data connection is the mobile web. I disable the data connection tab, but it seems to re-connect, even whilst i am on wifi.
It may be something to do with me having a Sync between my University owa email account i think.
Appreciate any help, as if for some reason my unlimited web bolt-on goes back to the unlimited txts (long story cut short, i am on a mobiles.co.uk contract ) i will be getting charged for this. Thanks

Try using the following app 'No Data' to easily disable Internet, MMS & WAP so it only uses your WIFI connection.
Also try going to:
Settings > Connections > Wifi > Wireless Networks > Network Adaptors and set Network connection to 'The Internet'
and
Settings > Connections > Wifi > Advanced > Power Mode and set it to 'Best Performance'
Should solve your problems
EDIT
For some reason I can't upload cab file for No Data. Try doing a quick search and you should find it

Trouble getting wifi and gprs connections to behave

Hi,
I've got a Touch Cruise 09, having upgraded from the original Touch Cruise. With that old phone, I had it configured (somehow) to use a Wifi connection as default, but if there was no current wifi connection it would initiate a data connection to my cell provider. That way, when at home or work I could manually connect to a wifi AP then browse the net, download email, etc over that connection, but when I was out and about it would start a data connection.
But with this new Touch Cruise, I can't get it to use wifi for syncing email. Even if I have a wifi connection, it initiates a gprs data connection. (This works, but it costs me). It does however behave like the old phone for browsing the net using Opera.
So basically, how do you assign what connections different programs use? The whole My Work and Internet concepts have always confused me on WM/WinCE devices, but I suspect its something to do with that.
BTW, I'm using MS Windows Live to do the email syncing... I've got a hotmail email address. But I can't find anywhere in the Win Live setup to specify the connection.
Anyway, thanks for any help!
Hey,
Is it that you do not want to use your data connection at all? Because if that is the case you can use a program called "NoData". On my phone I just use my WiFi connection and no GPRS or any other kind of data connection (I am a cheap ass user).
Grtz
Nope, I want to use wifi for when I'm at home, and cell phone data fro when I'm out and about.
At the moment it ALWAYS initiates a cell data connection, even if I'm at home and have a working wifi connection open.
My old phone used the wifi if it was there, or would then start a data connection. The new one doesn't.

internet sharing while phone call

Hi,
I have a problem, while I share internet connection and make a phone call the phone change the connection technology form HSDPA to GPRS. How can I disable this function because I want to use fast internet connection even when I make phone call?
Using GPRS should not disable a HSPA connection. You can still browse the internet whilst on a phone call, which is exactly that.
You mentioned sharing the internet connection. Are you saying that you want to use the internet connection from your phone on another device whilst you're making a call?
I share the internet connection to my pc. I usually use vnc client through vpn tunnel and make phone call to describe something to my client. When the conversation starts the connection is changed form hsdpa to gprs. Gprs is too slow for vnc or remote desktop so I need HSDPA.
I know I can use GPRS and HSDPA or 3G at the same time, so this may be an issue with your network provider. Personally, I don't think this info will help me help you in the slightest, but it may help someone else help you...
What network are you with?
Is (was) your phone locked?
Where are you?
That info may well be relevant, as I do know that some setups can mean that you can only use one connection at a time, whereas most mean you can use multiple connections.
I'm form Poland and my operator is orange pl. What is strange hd2 is my second htc device. Previous device tytn II works without any problems also in orange network.
I have a question as well! I'm on tmobile and I live in south florida and I cant talk and use Internet at the same time, why not?
Turn off the Autodisconnect option. i had the same problem, as long this was turned on.
where can I find this option?
i had a problem when i was on a call. my Msn will disconnect after a few mins of call. any idea how to stay connect ?
