internet sharing while phone call - HD2 General

Hi,
I have a problem, while I share internet connection and make a phone call the phone change the connection technology form HSDPA to GPRS. How can I disable this function because I want to use fast internet connection even when I make phone call?

Using GPRS should not disable a HSPA connection. You can still browse the internet whilst on a phone call, which is exactly that.
You mentioned sharing the internet connection. Are you saying that you want to use the internet connection from your phone on another device whilst you're making a call?

I share the internet connection to my pc. I usually use vnc client through vpn tunnel and make phone call to describe something to my client. When the conversation starts the connection is changed form hsdpa to gprs. Gprs is too slow for vnc or remote desktop so I need HSDPA.

I know I can use GPRS and HSDPA or 3G at the same time, so this may be an issue with your network provider. Personally, I don't think this info will help me help you in the slightest, but it may help someone else help you...
What network are you with?
Is (was) your phone locked?
Where are you?
That info may well be relevant, as I do know that some setups can mean that you can only use one connection at a time, whereas most mean you can use multiple connections.

I'm form Poland and my operator is orange pl. What is strange hd2 is my second htc device. Previous device tytn II works without any problems also in orange network.

I have a question as well! I'm on tmobile and I live in south florida and I cant talk and use Internet at the same time, why not?

Turn off the Autodisconnect option. i had the same problem, as long this was turned on.

where can I find this option?

i had a problem when i was on a call. my Msn will disconnect after a few mins of call. any idea how to stay connect ?

my own ISP dialup

hello
i have a pc under xp running with an Dsl modem.
on an other part i have a pocket pc.
i want to plug a dialup modem (low rate) to my pc.
and i want to connect to this dialup modem with my ppc in order to get access to Internet. do you think is it possible please?
Actually i want to build my own ISP service, i read about a RAS connexion but i am not sure.
can someone help me ?
thanx
gsm phones cant use normal analog modems to connect to
i think at least thats what my old motorola phone manual said
so using that to access the isp oldschool non grps way
the isp had to support to data gsm
re
i use a pocketpc and i read it is possible with pocketlance but i am not sure about the result in regards of the my objective (to be an isp provider for only myself) using poitn to point connection. any ideas?
I was thinking the same thing today after my broadband (lack of) problem. I am palnning to attemp something myself like this. I can tell you that it is possible and that I have in the past established a dial up connection from my ppc to my pc. It was using an audiovox rtm8000 gsm card, the gprs tool that came with it let me specify the number for gprs and when I used my home phone number to dial my pc with incoming dial up activated I was able to establish a connection and use terminal services client. This is not a practical permanent solution because the software expected the connection to behave like gprs, ie if it was inactive for a time it would quickly dissconect. I can get a telsta business plan (using my abn) that has 35c untimed calls so basically for 35c I could use my home internet unlimited - all be it at a very slow connection speed.
Yes it is possible to call a remote modem located on a windows or linux machine with a RAS installed.
However, to be able to tranfert datas, you need a data subscription in addition of your voice subcription.
KR, Imer
That depends on where you are. Here (aus) every gsm sim I have bought had csd enabled on the same number for no cost. I have had friends who were required to use a different data number but thats a thing of the past here. Thats why I am shocked to find that Telstra disable csd on the roaming service they provide to 3(three) customers - I need it!
I would have thought it would be cheaper / simpler to "tunnel" into a machine using vpn having first connected to a gprs provider, as csd (data over gsm) is allways a charged call, despite many contracts saying inclusive free calls to local numbers (in the UK anyway)

wifi/gprs switching?

I don't have the Vox yet (I'm an idiot for ordering it right before a freaking holiday) so I'm not sure if this already happens or not but...
Say for instance I'm connected to the internet/aim/whatever through wifi. However, I end up moving too far away from the hotspot and end up dropping the signal. When this happens, is there a way to make the GPRS automatically come in and replace the connection? Is that within the settings of WM6 or is there an app that does this? Can it even be done if it hasn't already?
it happens automatically to me
if the wifi connection is so slow or weak it starts to connect to gprs which actually annoys me
MMM
When I configure automatic connection trough GPRS, the phone connects via GPRS, even if a Wi-Fi connection is present. Ther should be a way to prevent usage of GPRS when connected trough wi-fi. Anyone knows how to do it?

WIFI vs 3G connection

Hi there,
I have this little question...
I would like that my hermes knows which connection to use when checking mails etc.
I'll explain.
At work and home I have my wifi connection, on the road my 3G connection. I would like to have my data connection always on, but when i'am at the office or at home, when checking my mails every 15 mins, I would like that my phone knows that he need to use the wifi connection.
Now, even when there is a wifi connection, he is making the connection trough 3G. I hate it that i always need to put my 3G connection off when at home or office. I would be funnier that i can leave it on and he is making the right choice of connection?
Anyone an idea?
I don;t realy understand. As hermes always using WiFi conection (if is connected to the hotspot) first, before 3G, so that's mean if you are connected! to you WiFi network phone will yous this connection to get your e-mails.
Yup, it was my error... sorry about that

Trouble getting wifi and gprs connections to behave

Hi,
I've got a Touch Cruise 09, having upgraded from the original Touch Cruise. With that old phone, I had it configured (somehow) to use a Wifi connection as default, but if there was no current wifi connection it would initiate a data connection to my cell provider. That way, when at home or work I could manually connect to a wifi AP then browse the net, download email, etc over that connection, but when I was out and about it would start a data connection.
But with this new Touch Cruise, I can't get it to use wifi for syncing email. Even if I have a wifi connection, it initiates a gprs data connection. (This works, but it costs me). It does however behave like the old phone for browsing the net using Opera.
So basically, how do you assign what connections different programs use? The whole My Work and Internet concepts have always confused me on WM/WinCE devices, but I suspect its something to do with that.
BTW, I'm using MS Windows Live to do the email syncing... I've got a hotmail email address. But I can't find anywhere in the Win Live setup to specify the connection.
Anyway, thanks for any help!
Hey,
Is it that you do not want to use your data connection at all? Because if that is the case you can use a program called "NoData". On my phone I just use my WiFi connection and no GPRS or any other kind of data connection (I am a cheap ass user).
Grtz
Nope, I want to use wifi for when I'm at home, and cell phone data fro when I'm out and about.
At the moment it ALWAYS initiates a cell data connection, even if I'm at home and have a working wifi connection open.
My old phone used the wifi if it was there, or would then start a data connection. The new one doesn't.

The WIFI without the GPRS (3g)

Hello,
I need some help about my htc hd.
I want to ensure that, then i connected to internet via WIFI, my GPRS (3g) is not connected.
How can i disable the 3g GPRS connection, and enable WIFI only
Thanks a lot!!!
No Data will allow you to stop data connection.
so now if i closed my Orange network, the WIFI should work?
It is still doesnt work, do you have any idea how to configure it?

Click to collapse
Course it will there seperate
All you do is block Orange connection when you want and unblock when needed
This program doesn't help me , because even i close it the GPRS still work.
But than i take the SIM from the phone, or turn off the phone feature, the internet connection is unavailable.
I think that all problem that was in some topics about the WIFI speed , is because of they used the GPRS internet and not the WIFI.
So , there some more complexive problem with internet WIFI in HTC HD.
Just try to take out the SIM and than surf in internet with WIFI? There is no way!!!!!
the connection icons on the top of the screen clearly show which data connection is active
the manual describe the meaning of all the top screen icons
settings->connections->connections->advanced-select network
pick my home network or whatever the non isp connection is named on your phone
and all data connections when there is no wifi or activesync connections to get free network from will fail with an error == you will never get a grps connection again
before you turn it back to my isp or what it's named on your device
