Remap Power Button? - Mogul, XV6800 General

The power buttoncover on my Mogul has slipped into the casing and now I have to use the stylish to push the actual button inside. I have searched on the forums trying to find information on remapping buttons in the registry with no luck. I do not want to use a program to do it. Any info on remapping the hardware buttons?

hmmm...i don't have this program but maybe it's worth checking out, maybe it can give you more options than the default button mapping built in to wm

it has a 14 day trial, i guess if nothing else, you could give it a shot, i can imagine not having a power button would be suuuper annoying for trying to wake up the phone

Button mapping/pda case problem

I've tried several pouches/cases, and keep having the same problem when a call comes in and I go to pull the phone out of the case, the Messaging or PIE button get pressed inadvertantly.
So the best fix I can come up with, is to remap the buttons to activate those apps on a Press & hold, rather than just press. Problem, is that the Hermes does not allow me to map Press & hold for any of the buttons except the PTT (via PTTFix - thanks Sleuth255).
My understanding is that the Button press versus press&hold functionality is implemented in the OS, so there's got to be a way to get to it?
That's incorrect AFAIK. The record button has press and hold, but it's emulated in code.
I don't think Press and Hold is implemented in the OS. I imagine Sleuth's solution is also externally emulated and parsed back into the OS.

Thanks.
I'm playing with an eval of AEButton, and it seems to do everything I was looking for (and then some).

How to assign new buttons?

I'd like to be able to hold a button (other than Button 5) and have it execute a command/program. Can it be done?
ie. Hold OK button to launch X program? I've googled with no luck.
Search the forums. There is a thread by Sleuth255 (?) with the title PTT Function Hacked or something similar.
I found that thread. But it's doing what my TyTN does anyways... allows you to hold the button 5 and launch. I need that function for the other buttons as well.... unless I'm missing something.
i use ae button plus for this.
its free on a trial with a popup on phone phone startup, or $7 to unlock.
its FANTASTIC. interface isn't overly intuative to setup, but basicly you can have
1 click, 2 click, 3 clicks and press to hold on *all* the hardware buttons do different things.
its also got a reasonalbe app switcher built in, and way to turn the screen off and lock the keys if you want your media to keep playing when the phone in in a lower power state. *(not sure how much this saves in terms of power, but the key lock is why i use it)
For example,
my internet button (up and right of screen) is now set to
1 click - Load IE,
2 click - Load MusicID (listens to any song being played and then tells you the artist and track)
3 click - Load tomtom (usfull so i can switch between messages/phone calls and tomtom when driving quickly.
press and hold - turn off screen and lock keys for media playback.
Wish it was more popular i think its a fantastic application! you should give it ago.
as an aside note, i think there is a reg hack to do the press and hold on other buttons, but honestly do your self a favour and try

(website looks Naff!!! but good app)
Thank you. Exactly what I need. Cheers.

Mapping Power button

Hi peeps !
Searched all over the forum, but couldn't find the answer.
Is there a way to assign a function to the Power On/Off button other than to turn the Athena on / off ?
I typically, for instance, would like to bind the "DisplaySwitch" psShutXP shortcut to the Power Button so that when i press it, it doesn't turn the Athena off but only the screen.
Additionnaly, if one knows how to assign a sequence of actions to the Power Button (like "locking the device + switching screen on / off"), that'd be great.
Thanks guys !
Turning off only the screen is the default action for the power button...
There is an app that many on here use (I can't think of the name) which lets you reassign most of the buttons on the Athena, including the OK and Windows button, to many different functions. You can also hack the registry to reassign the camera/comm/browser buttons if the standard reassignments that Windows Mobile gives you aren't enough - but really odd things like locking + screen off may require you to also write your own small app first.
Hi there, thank you for your answer.
Actually, the Power button must do something more than just flicking the screen off, like scaling the CPU down, spinning out the microdrive, flushing a bunch of buffers, etc.
I'm asking because of a problem I posted about in the forum (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353456), about my Athena being strangely slow, and its CPU being 80% used by nothing that I can see or find, when I wake it up using the Power button.
I'm trying to see if I can circumvent the problem if I can't manage to find its source and solve it, in fact.
I used AEButtons Plus, which works pretty well with ALL buttons but the Power one, and I couldn't find a reference to it in the registry either.
Thanks for your time !
Yup, that's the app I was thinking of. I don't use it so I couldn't think of the name. Sorry to hear of your slowdown problems, I've been monitoring that thread. I agree that it sounds like a hardware problem at this point.
You need DevieLock.cab. It can be set to switch off the screen and lock the device. It can by mapped to any button but Power on/off though.
Thanks man, gonna look it up right away !

Can I assign the Home button with the startmenu?

Hello,
I don't like this Home button on the Touch HD. I can get back to the today screen with the normal End Call button.
I am missing a startmenu button which I got used to over the last years. And the startmenu on this display is so far away from my thumb, that it makes one handed usage difficult.
Is there an easy way to reassign the Home buttion to the startmenu? The default Settings-->Buttons dialog offers only one long press customization. Can I enable the other buttons to get changed there?
Use aebuttons or mobilemagic, search a little for
A tool to change the buttons is AEButton Plus.
But the home key cannot be changed so far.
I concur with AE Button plus not being able to assign/reassign the home button
This is bad.
So we have to wait for a solution. I hope someone works on this.
The end call button and the home button are redundant.
Why have 2 buttons that primarily do the same thing? I know that the home button takes you to the main screen during a call where as pressing the end call will end it. But you could easily press the on-screen end call button, thus freeing up the home button to something more useful or customisable.
I guess HTC need to keep thier devices "conventional" looking to avoid scaring off potential pda newcomers!

remap the BACK button ???

Hi all!
Suddenly today I've noticed something...I never use the BACK hardware key on my diamond. The reason is that this button doesn't seem to make anything different than the HOME button. (of course, I may be wrong! If so, please someone point that difference.) So, the obvious idea came to me: why don't we try to remap this button.
I know that there are apps that do just that (AEBPlus for example) but if you tried these programs you know they use up to 20% of RAM (I'm talking about AEBPlus again). So this is not the best option.
Rather than these 3rd party software, I was thinking to remap the button before the RAM is cocked by means of hard-coding. Sadly for me I do not possess this kind of knowledge so I ask kindly if someone could do this for the community (if it can be done).
I thought that this button could have a similar function as the ALT-TAB but to tell you the truth anything would be better than the original function.
Waiting for your replays...
Or maybe more easier with a registry hack. I am also interested in remapping the back button!
great minds think alike, but not always on the same schedule.
i was just looking into remapping my buttons with something other than AEBplus. i have an HD2, so the built-iin button remapper only gives me control over a long press of the send button; i'm looking into remapping the back button into a short-press "alt+tab" solution and a long-press to open my task manager.
then i searched and found this: forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1770782&postcount=1
it's basically noting how you can use shortcut files, renamed and placed in your Windows folder, that remap your buttons. just create a shortcut file and rename it with "long" or "short" button depress followed by an underscore and the documented name of the button, with the standard shortcut ".lnk" filetype, e.g. Long_Send.lnk or Short_Home.lnk. then go into the link properties and set the target to what app you want the button action to open. once built, move the shortcut file to the Windows folder and soft reset the device. et voila.
the only problem is the Back button, specifically. all the other buttons have a single, remappable function when depressed. unfortunately, the Back button is programmed to be "situationally aware" and can perform one of 3 functions based on the situation it's used in. there's an MSDN blog entry here that explains not only the uniqueness of the back button, but how it functions: msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms912123.aspx
anyways, gonna look into it some more this morning to see how i can remap the sucker with as little resources as possible, if it can be done at all, or how to do it if someone else already has, and in the case of the latter, i'll report back and bump the thread that has the answers.

edit 2: AND a 5 minute freeze between posts/edits. at this point, why even bother with registration captchas? or even new registrations at all? sounds like current members and admins would rather turn people off/away than risk a spammer gettin thru. :madjerkit:
