Can I assign the Home button with the startmenu? - Touch HD General

Hello,
I don't like this Home button on the Touch HD. I can get back to the today screen with the normal End Call button.
I am missing a startmenu button which I got used to over the last years. And the startmenu on this display is so far away from my thumb, that it makes one handed usage difficult.
Is there an easy way to reassign the Home buttion to the startmenu? The default Settings-->Buttons dialog offers only one long press customization. Can I enable the other buttons to get changed there?

Use aebuttons or mobilemagic, search a little for

A tool to change the buttons is AEButton Plus.
But the home key cannot be changed so far.

I concur with AE Button plus not being able to assign/reassign the home button

This is bad.
So we have to wait for a solution. I hope someone works on this.

The end call button and the home button are redundant.
Why have 2 buttons that primarily do the same thing? I know that the home button takes you to the main screen during a call where as pressing the end call will end it. But you could easily press the on-screen end call button, thus freeing up the home button to something more useful or customisable.
I guess HTC need to keep thier devices "conventional" looking to avoid scaring off potential pda newcomers!

How to assign new buttons?

I'd like to be able to hold a button (other than Button 5) and have it execute a command/program. Can it be done?
ie. Hold OK button to launch X program? I've googled with no luck.
Search the forums. There is a thread by Sleuth255 (?) with the title PTT Function Hacked or something similar.
I found that thread. But it's doing what my TyTN does anyways... allows you to hold the button 5 and launch. I need that function for the other buttons as well.... unless I'm missing something.
i use ae button plus for this.
its free on a trial with a popup on phone phone startup, or $7 to unlock.
its FANTASTIC. interface isn't overly intuative to setup, but basicly you can have
1 click, 2 click, 3 clicks and press to hold on *all* the hardware buttons do different things.
its also got a reasonalbe app switcher built in, and way to turn the screen off and lock the keys if you want your media to keep playing when the phone in in a lower power state. *(not sure how much this saves in terms of power, but the key lock is why i use it)
For example,
my internet button (up and right of screen) is now set to
1 click - Load IE,
2 click - Load MusicID (listens to any song being played and then tells you the artist and track)
3 click - Load tomtom (usfull so i can switch between messages/phone calls and tomtom when driving quickly.
press and hold - turn off screen and lock keys for media playback.
Wish it was more popular i think its a fantastic application! you should give it ago.
as an aside note, i think there is a reg hack to do the press and hold on other buttons, but honestly do your self a favour and try

(website looks Naff!!! but good app)
Thank you. Exactly what I need. Cheers.

Buttons assignment

I would like to program a couple of shortcuts but using the
START | SETTINGS | BUTTONS app.
It shows 5 buttons (plus Button 1 Hold)..but I can't make them work!
The first five are just labelled "button". So what button do these refer to?
The last is labelled "button 1(Hold)" which appears to be the call pickup/start button.
Can anyone shed light on the other five buttons??
Thanks
Are you using Spb Pocket Plus? If you are then this may be be adding the four additional buttons. I have no idea if they refer to the phone up/down, home and back buttons. What I wanted was the Volume Up/Down mapping.
I need to get round to contacting Spb support as there are lots of problems with Pocket Plus.
Based on the recommendations of others, I am using AE Button Plus.
No - I'm using the buit-in WM6 buttons assignment app.
The reason I asked was that I only have the Button 1 (Hold) showing. Spb adds in another4 buttons when their Extended Button functionality is enabled
Bump - I too would love to know how to assign other buttons to apps, in addition to the Call Pickup button (Long Press). I currently have this assigned to Comm Manager rather than Voice Dial.
If Button1 (Long Press) can be assigned to apps, then surely the Home and Back (Long Press) can be remapped too?
Got this device yesterday and am completely in love with it, but already finding it tedious to navigate to commonly used apps like Comm Manager and Camera.
AEB+ is the best solution: http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
I have volume up mapped to: 1 press = up, 2 press = volume up, long press = plamp
volume down: 1 press = down, 2 press = volume down, long press = resco recorder
and OK/home on double press to rotate 90 degrees on toogle
AEB+ is commercial but the unregistered version has almost 100% functionality. I bought it as it's great even though I don't use the extra functions !
Excellent, thanks very much.
Still bugs me that the extra buttons don't appear in the built-in buttons assignment menu though. I think it's an oversight on HTC's part rather than intentional.

Changing Home Button to Start Menu

Hi, Anyway to switch the existing HOME button on the HD to START button instead?
Thanks
is it AE Button Plus? I think that what I used, couldn't change the home button so I used the back button instead. You can set it up to handle more than one press too.
Not by using AE button program but by mod the registry. Is it possible?
No, you can't change the Home button.
Bump on this topic. Anyone know how to do this via registry? The home button and the end call button do the same thing on the HD and it's a waste IMO to not have a use for one of them.
Home button >>>> Start button would be awesome.

[REQ] Cab to make end call button power button (like hd2)

is there an easy way, or a cab made to make the end call button the power button like the hero and hd2? this would increase one handed usability on such a large device. thanks all!
You can hold the top button down for a few seconds and it will ask you if you want to shut off.. same thing.

Click to collapse
Don't think this is a good idea. The HD2 has a dedicated Home button. The TP2 does not. The End Call button already does double-duty as the Home button. It would be overkill for it to also act as the Standby button.
Besides, while the TP2 is large, you can still hit the Standby button even if you're holding it with one hand. If the device is in your palm, you should still be able to reach the Standby button with your index finger. This would be difficult on the HD2...
Btw, if you install SPB PocketPlus, it enables some advanced button mapping settings. You can map the long-press Back button to Standby. But I find it doesn't work if you're in Manila/Sense/TF3D. For example, if I don't have any applications opened and I'm in the Sense interface (home tab, people tab, whatever), Standby wouldn't work if mapped to the Back button. But if I have an application opened (eg, Notes, Tasks, etc), it'll work...

[Q] Switch hold home button and menu button functions

Hi
I bought galaxy s4 last month but I am not happy with functionality of the home and sensor buttons. In my opinion switch application (the list of all previously opened apps) is very important button and I am not happy to wait whole second holding down home button to get simple alt+tab feature. At all this big hardware button does not fit in the whole picture and its the biggest mistake of this phone. Now I cannot remove it but at least I want to use it as much as little I can. So I want to switch menu button and "hold home" buttons. Its far more sensible to make separate sensor button for switching app than use it for menu functionality. I didn't root my phone and I don't want to root it but if its needed to get rid of this stupidness I will make it. So is there any way to switch menu button and "hold home" button?
thx
