GUIDE: Mac OS X and Cingular GPRS with the HTC Wizard AKU2

I have successfully connected with the Qtek 9100 AKU2 ROM (the latest stable ROM for HTC Wizard) to Cingular via Bluetooth and Mac OS X 10.4.6. Instructions:
1. Pair OSX and the phone. You might need to check the "any device" checkbox on OSX's pairing utility.
2. Verify to OSX that you do want to use that device as a modem (if you don't get that dialog, then you will need to create the Bluetooth connection yourself -- message me or leave a comment if you need instructions and I will reply to you).
3. RENAME the attached iPAQ-GSM.txt to plain iPAQ-GSM (remove the .txt extention using the Finder 'Get Info' dialog). Copy the file "iPaq-GSM" to your /Library/Modem Scripts/ folder. I modified the original script that was floating on the internet for a year now in order to work with Cingular (the original script wouldn't get a carrier signal with my phone -- it needed some small initialization changes).
4. Go to your System Preferences/Network/Bluetooth/. There enter the following:
Service Provider: Cingular
Account Name: [email protected] (case sensitive)
Password: CINGULAR1 (case sensitive)
Tel number: *99# (the *99***1# number that does work with other phones doesn't work with the HTC Wizard)
On PPP options uncheck "tcp header compression".
On the Modem tab uncheck both "enable error correction" and "wait for dial tone". From the modem drop-down menu select the iPaq-GSM modem script.
Then, click Apply and then open the "Internet Connect" application and select Bluetooth from there. Click "Connect" and you should now be connected on the net via Cingular GPRS/EDGE.
Alternatively, you can create a new networking bluetooth connection instead of using the generic bluetooth networking pref panel, but that involves a bit more work -- although I personally prefer it as I have over 8 phones and I need different networking connection names and settings for each, instead of using the default "Bluetooth" one. If you are on the same boat, IM me or leave a comment for more instructions.
Thanks
dude you just made my day. It works perfectly. Thank God for people smarter then me.
Unfortunately, in my AKU2 QTek ROM, the PPP server dies right after I disconnect from the Mac. I have to reboot the PocketPC before I can reconnect my Mac to GPRS.
If anyone knows more, please download the script above and tell us if there is a way to fix this.

Error on VoipSettings.exe - Schap's 4.31

Hey guys, fresh meat in this forum, not quite new to Windows Mobile but very new to using it in a PDA with phone capabilities. Quite Symbian guy and sort of getting myself used to WM6 - and in love with Hermes...
I have just done a successful installation of Schap's 4.31 WM6 Rom - which I think is freaking great - when trying to make the VoIP work, I managed to get username, password and settings from Truphone account out of my N95 but I am not 100% sure I have put the right data in the right fields, result is that VoIP will not work at all and when I try to access the VoIP Settings (in the connections tab) it'll come up with a message "An unexpected error has ocurred in VoIPSettings.exe. Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information". Obviously I've done it a few times.
Help is more than appreciated.
Excuse me for my bad English.
I had the same problem and I deleted the file with my SIP configuration and then no problem :
File to delete :
Windows\System\VoIP\Prov0SIPSettings (it is an hidden file)
I have make this on a P4550 device with Schap's Rom. Perhaps is it the same thing...
Thanks
Thanks for this ! it worked for me as well.

Unable to connect to GPRS - Ultimate 9502 ** RESOLVED**

I seek other 9502 ultimate owners and experts advice on the below:
Upon trying to connect to the internet using the GPRS functionality, I always receive the following error message:
“Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer’s documentation and try again”
I have tried the following steps:
- Reviewed the connection settings picked up by the Imate configurator upon first boot, they were correct.
- Tried to remove the SIM card and use it on my JAMin, the device connected smoothly (with the above same connection settings).
- Hard reseted the device, still it didn’t connect.
- Checked the Operator settings of my provider on the internet, they are the same ones loaded by the Imate Configurator
- Tried another SIM card, same thing
- Went to the service provider and changed the SIM card and got a new one, same error
I shall appreciate any assistance.
UPDATE
Finally!!!!
After installing the new WM 6.1, the device connected smoothly
.
From a 9502 owner
Hi, I have read your post and looked at my Ultimate to find anything obvious and I cannot. I am on O2 in the UK and used the configurator settings which worked fine. If there are any settngs you would like me to verify for you, let me know.
Oh! did you check the phone settings as well as the network connection settings, it's possible that a default in there does not tally with your provider (Goto the Wireless Manager and Tap MENU|PHONE SETTINGS).
Cheers

GPRS - Ultimate 9502
Thx for your reply.
I have tried every possible combination of Network / Band selection from the phone settings but it didn't work.
Imate have responded that it may be a ROM issue and that they are working on an new updated ROM to be available soon that will probably solve the problem.
Meanwhile i am trying to figure out some registery tweak that could fix the problem (trial and error)
WM 6.1 Link please
Can you please post the link to the WM 6.1 ROM that resolved your problem.
Thanks

Is my HTC Shift SIM locked ?

I live in Switzerland and I bought HTC Shift from US.
I'm trying to connect in SnapVUE via 3g SIM but I always get "the answering modem has disconnected".
Can perhaps help i00 rom ? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480525&highlight=sim+lock)
Any help ?
Thanks.
Most probably you need to enter the correct GPRS/UMTS username/pass in your connection settings.
You could also do a "clear snapvue" and have the automatic settings take effect.
Find your APN username and password for your GPRS telco and enter it in connection settings, You might even need to create a new 3G connection first.
Flash i00 ROM anyway, it will greatly enhance your shift.
Hi lucid,
I don't have GPRS/UMTS username/pass.
The SIM I'm using works well without user/pass on a Tytn II so I don't think they are required, aren't they?
When you say "Clear SnapVUE" do you mean to reset it using HTC official tool?
Because I already did it.
When I try to set up conection I do the following (read on HTCmanual):
Snapvue --> Settings --> Connection setup --> select country and carrier --> autoconfigure --> restart
After that I try to connect but get the same errors.
Thanks for help; I have to make it works.

Proxy Settings missing under "MY ISP"

Dear All,
First n foremost apologies if this topic has been repeated. I have searched through the forum, but could not find a solution to my problem below :
I am currently running WM 6.1 Mario Superlite ROM 21051 on HTC HD.
While manually configuring GPRS settings, I noticed hat there is no option for setting up proxy server under "MY ISP" . I can set proxy settings under "My work network " only.
Can anyone please tell me how to activate / get the proxy option under MY ISP ?
I also noticed that ROM's which have GPRS/MMS autoconfigure, this option is automatically activated. Can I get .cab file for MMS/GPRS autoconfiguration, since my ROM does not have it inbuilt ?
