Using 8525 as webcam - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have 8525 and was wondering if there is a software that I can use the 8525 camera as a webcam and set it up to stream video to the internet using the data connection in my plan. I tried Cellicast but it doesnt seem to work .. Any suggestions .. We definately need this application for 8525

Awesome app, just wish it was freeware.

Let me specify what I meant there ... What I am looking for is an application that turns my phone camera into webcam and streams video to the internet without connecting to my computer ... If I am on the road and I turn it on it should transmit video via the internet connection provided by my cell phone company ..

I'm still looking for some software or a driver that will do the same. Any updates?

Potential very noob-like question!

I've just started using my MDA Vario II at work. My problem(s) are as follows:
1) I wanted to use a remote program to access all the functions/screen of my vario from the PC - does anyone know any decent, cheap (or preferably free!) remote programs?
2) I wanted to connect it to the PC and still use my unlimited Web & Walk from T Mobile, rather than the work internet connection - but every time I connect it asks me to input details of my work proxy server. Is there any way I can stop it from doing this? Even if I don't input the details, it still doesn't connect via GPRS.
Any help would be much appreciated! I apologise if I'm asking stupid questions - I'm just fresh from the lands of SE P910i's
1) I haven't seen anything free that was realy worth it. I went ahead and bought the best one I've seen and that's SOTI PocketController. It's $35 but since I write apps for the PocketPC it was worth it. With SOTI you can take screen captures, record video of your screen, download the latest skins so it looks like your phone, get access to a command promt, task viewer and stuff like that. Your suppose to be able to connect to it over the internet as well, but I haven't got this part to work yet.
2) You can use a Bluetooth DUN (DialUpNetwork) connection from your laptop to your phone so that your laptop will use your phone as a modem if there is now WiFi connection around. I use this and it is very handy. T-Mobile's web site has the information you need for this, if you can't find it let me know and I will send you the PDF I have for it.

I use "remote display control for Pocket PC", it's free (as in beer):

pof - amazing! that was exactly what I was after - thank you so so much!
as for the internet connection - I might not have explained myself properly. Basically I wanted to have my vario connected to my pc by usb, but then use the web & walk from my phone rather than the work internet connection. At the moment, whenever I connect to my work pc, and try to go onto the internet, it asks me to enter the proxy settings for my work network. I basically wanted to disable this and just use my web and walk connection. is this possible?
Thanks for your replies Codesmoke and Pof. I hope i'll be able to return te favour one day when I get to grips with this device!
Yeaaa i've also been trying to do the internet connection thing through your PC, basically leave the phone charging with USB, but active the bluetooth connection and use your phone as a modem, i never got any further than that, mainly cause the non-microsoft bluetooth stack on my computer was giving me trouble dialing up.
Put "*99#" with no speechmarks as the dial up phone number, this will dial into web and walk. Leave the username/password blank.
You could always plug your device into your laptop / computer and then Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill the process "wcescomm.exe" which will then just leave the phone charging ?

No Streaming Media With New Cingular Rom

I am using a Cingular 8525 with the new rom from AT&T. I was wondering if anyone else encountered this issue. I can no longer stream audio or video from any source including windows media mobile site. I first noticed the problem when i tried to use xstreamxm and the site works but it wont trasfer over to the media player to actually play.
I'd very much like to know the answer to this as well as I'm having the same exact problem with xstreamxm only I'm currently using WXML 0.21.....
XstreamXM ( http://www.xstreamxm.com/mobile ) works fine on my device as well but when WMP picks up the stream it goes to Buffering 0% then reverts back to paused. After I upgraded to WXML I used wpbear's cingular mms cab (thank you so much wpbear). Internet and MMS work fine but if I can't listen to Ethel and The Virus then why do I exist???
Whoever is kind enough to solve this issue for me will gladly be given the honorary spirit award for the day =]

This is killing me with the new 3.3 ROM also... hopefully someone can help...
Have you tried...
...using isp.cingular? Or at least configuring "My ISP" (does not use proxies) with the standard wap.cingular settings?
I have both isp and wap settings currently in my phone and set to auto pick. I've also tried using both profiles seperately, disconnecting and trying again to no avail.
Works with Net front
I stated using netfront in order to get cingular video. Now i can get streams to work from xstreamxm.com./mobile and other sites. Any kind of audio stream still dosent work in pie. I am using media net with the wireless.cingular proxy or just wifi.
I have not had a problem, but I have been using www.radio4pda.com
I still cannot get past my 0% buffering no matter wap or isp or netfront rather than ie. I believe ppennza's problem was a bit different than mine. can anyone replicate this problem or solve it?
I have the same problem either I use GPRS or WiFi, I had to go back to the official 1.34 and problem solved.
BTW BBC 2.1.2.54 works fine on both (2.06 and 1.34)

How to Setup Laptop to Use 3G Internet from My Cingular 8525?

Okay, I've searched for several hours so I don't act like a true newbie and ask a dumb question that's been asked a hundred times, but I can't find anything definite on this, so here goes.
I have a new Cingular 8525 and have Cingular's PDA Connect Unlimited data plan. I am in a 3G area. I have an out of the box phone with Windows Mobile 5 with no ROM updates or hacks on it.
I would like to take my laptop in the car and hook my phone to it and have my laptop use the 3G connection that my phone is providing. I know you can setup a modem connection, and I've done that, but it only connects at 115k, which is the fastest setting the modem driver and bluetooth dongle have listed. I would like to be surfing on my laptop at the 3G speeds.
I know there are implications where Cingular may or may not charge me, because I am supposed to possibly have something called the Laptop Connect plan, but lets assume that's not an issue.
Also, whichever way is easiest, I can either use my USB cord to tether my phone and laptop together or use my Bluetooth on my laptop and connect that way.
Anyone have the steps on how to make this work?
Thanks
Did you ever get this working?
I have almost the same situation: a Tom Tom GO 720 device that will talk to the 8525's Handsfree service via Blue Tooth, but says that the phone is not advertising the DUN service.
Got it working
I did two things to make it work.
First, I got Internet Sharing working by using the cabinet called UPRREY-ICS[1].cab that you can find on this forum site. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1564979#24. This will install a link to the Internet Sharing application and show it under Programs.
That made my laptop able to use the GPRS connection. This uses the Bluetooth PAN to tether the laptop and the phone. (but be careful - your plan might not allow large data transfers).
Second, I found two files, also on this forum site, called WM6_DUN.zip (or separately as BT_DUN.cab) and MODEMLINK.zip.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/misc.php?do=showattachments&t=314371
MODEMLINK.zip has a .rgu file in it that I didn't have to mess with .. I just copied the other files to the windows directory and restarted.
Now my TomTom GO 710 finds the handsfree connection, the phonebook/object connection, and the DUN service so it can get on the internet when it needs to.
Thanks to URPREY, The.Drone, and MUN for their previous posts. You rock.
Hi
I have a tomtom gps 720 that I am trying to conntect to a HTC touch diamond, downloaded the software and have placed it into my windows directory etc.. which seems to have helped as it now shows on my tomtom that my phone supports wireless data transfers, the problem I am having now is when putting the setting in the tomtom for the wireless settings my mobile of phone does not appear so I am getting up to 65% through setting it up before I run into a wall....
any further ideas?
I would suggest using the data cable method without bluetooth headaches. Diamond has a ver poor battery, so when ised with USB cable it can stay alive but ultimately your laptop battery is drained
Diamond should have built-in internet connection sharing option. Does the prompt that appears when connecting to PC have that? If not try the HTCtoUSB PopUp cabs taken from Raphel.
Regards,
Carty..
I have no problem connecting the htc diamind or the tomtom go 720 to the PC, I'm just trying to get the wireless data to work so I can send and receive text messages through the TomTom.

Skype/VOIP over bluetooth?

Hi all,
I was interested to know if it is possible to use Voip or Skype over a bluetooth connection.
I currently sync via bluetooth using my HTC Himalaya, which allows me to access the internet at my home.
I tried using Skype Mobile on my phone but it only seems to allow 3G or WiFi connections.
I don't want to use my phone as the headset, connecting through my PC's Skype, I want it to work standalone ie Be able to connect to the Skype Network/VOIP network using software on my phone, connecting to the activesync bluetooth connection.
Any ideas?
it's transparent to most programs which connection they use as long as it's fast enough
and my tests and tests i've sene indicate that bluetooth is not fast enough to do talk with skype
but you can chat but then so you can using gprs
Even BT 1.x should be able to provide enough bandwidth for Skype or VoIP applications as in the worst case you will need 64 kbps up- and downstream (using G.711 like codecs). The problem for VoIP / SIP is probably that it won't run over the ActiveSync connection... which is very limited anyway. There might not be a way to do what you want, but it would be interesting if someone could correct me.
Bluetooth Activesync Works
Well I just configured and managed to use Skype over Bluetooth Activesync....and it worked OK.
The sound was identical to that which I get on my SDIO 802.11G Wifi Card, so I am not complaining.
I was unable to "chat" with someone though, as in typing (I could type but they couldn't see it, possibly because I was logged in elsewhere), but I was able to use the Echo call function, and it worked.
So. It works. But more testing is needed.
It saves me having to carry around and purchase extra wifi equipment when I can do the same over Bluetooth...
Do many people know how to do this? Do you think I should make a post in the development and hacking or general forum?
works great

net on phone via pc

hi,
does anybody know if we can use internet from pc on the x1 via bluetooth...
i tried finding on google but in vain...can anybody help me regarding this...
ps: i am aware that we can use internet connection via usb cable...what i want to know is that can we use it via bluetooth...and whats the procedure...
thanks in advance...
so many views and no replies???
i really only think it will work the other way around. if you have 3g using the x1 as a bluetooth modem so you can get internet on your pc. unless you have a highspeed internet connection on your pc that isn't already wireless, in which case you can buy a usb wifi adapter for pretty cheap. i dunno if this was any help...
bleh. disregard most of that. i'm sleepy... i only read half. yes it is possible to use your phone as a bluetooth modem though
thanks dude...
the thing is that i hav a really fast pc connection and its cheap...whereas the phone internet service is costly...so i was just wondering if its possible...(net fron pc to phone via bluetooth)
thanks anyways...cheers
Actually there is a way.....
If you establish an bluetooth active-sync connection.
You should be able to surf the net via the bluetooth connection...
But it is still more efficient to go by wi-fi....
Stuart
awesome dude...ill check it rightaway..thanks
doesnt work...detects the serial port..but connection fails..
I know that with Palm OS PDA we used Mocha PPP, perhaps you can give it a try.
Else perhaps an adhoc connection if you want to try Wifi.
yes being connected to activesync with bluetooth give the phone the network access of the pc
been doing it since i had an old wm2003 device
or you can do this if you dont want to use activesync

Try initial the BT detection from yr PC (or the other way as I don't remember.). The "serial port" will be replaced w/ ActiceSync eventually.
It does work but it depends on your contract
The carrier company can tell if you are browsing through your phone or using internet sharing. I am on O2 and it does not have this, but if I put my T-Mobile sim card in, it works fine. PC's use higher bandwidth and this costs the mobile companies.
If you want to use it, I recommend using the USB lead as bluetooth and 3G connection will abuse your battery.
To use, press start, programs internet sharing. You can only use it if you have activesync on your pc, USB mode is activesync and your mobile provider lets you.
DAN
danjwalker
he want to do the opposite he want to surf using his computers internet not
letting his computer use his phone internet
so i was right the first time. all he needs is a usb wifi adapter.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Wi-Fi_USB_Connector
something kind of like that
and you won't even have to use bluetooth after you set it up. just turn on your wifi in the comm manager

This method may not work anymore since PAN client is being removed in recent WM release. You may need to try this to get PAN client working. I posted my working experience over there w/ my Att tilt. But this method require a lot more effort to get it working compare to activesync.

why would anyone want to buy additional hardware when it "should" be possible to use the current internet connection on your PC over bluetooth?

i thought the bluetooth internet sharing only works one way...?
if you go to internet sharing on the phone, you choose bluetooth pan and then a connection that your phone uses to connect to the internet. that's not what he wants. someone correct me if i'm wrong and there's another way to do this bc i'm really not sure.
