White screen after messing with SKTools - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

It's my stupidity this time...
I discovered Pocket CM Keyboard was so great and decided to make it my default input method. The I decided to use SKTools to change the default input method. I probably disabled the original keyboard and thought it would make it faster to switch between IMs.
After resetting, HTC screen loads (I am using WM5 SKU2 by the way), the Dopod black screen with versions pops up, and then I got the white blank screen instead of the WM5 blue loading screen.
The bluetooth LED and GSM green LED blink, but it stays in white blank screen for a long while (5 minutes maybe) until it goes completely black (no backlight) and don't respond to key presses.
Apart from hard-reset, anything else I can still try without losing the data?
I have tried many soft-resets, pulling out battery for an hour and stuff like those. Your tip is greatly appreciated!

white scren
have you backed up your data? i have had this problem but for an entirely differnt reason, i then went into bootloader and down graded to WM5 then again to WM6. will work.

It's the very bad reason to force myself flashing it to WM6 :-(
Unfortunately I don't have it backed up regularly, but if there's no alternative but to hard-reset, I guess I still have to flash it.

Heli screen alignment after installing WM6

After having installed the latest wm6 from the update. followed by hard rest I got to screen alignment and it seems to keep asking align screen which I have done over 20 times and I can not get out of it even with new hard set.
Any sugestings or help please.
I forgot to mention the center point is some times not responding.
Thank you
I had the same problem, but found that if you can remove the HTC Album then you can align like normal.
I have the same problem on a wizard.
After a while I realized that there must be something wrong with the hardware.
Whenever I turn the screen on, it opens the Message pane, or whatever is configures on the right top hard button. Then if I turn it off and on, it moves to Outlook . Next time to MMS, etc.
Then, when I press the center button, it opens the align screen, but after I finish aligning, it works fine for a while.
I tried Flashing it many times, with differnt rooms, even the offial ones, and it didn't solve the problem. I also tried dismounting it all, talking all the parts apart and nothing.
Anyboday has any clue about this?
make an oem that auto aligns the screen in personal oemizer. See if that works. So that on the initial boot from hard reset it skips that screen.
I did it on mine and it worked fine but I also never had a problem aligning the screen with the kitchen either.

Blank / White screen but everything else works

After upgrading to WM6, every works perfectly. But then, it seemed randomly, the display is blank/ all white, but I can the phone is still functioning, because i can tap on the screen and get the tap sound. Soft reset and hard reset doesn't work. I'm doing the hard reset blindingly since the display is showing nothing, guessing the key push (i pressed record-camera 3x then mail button). I'm pretty sure it did the reset because after about 30 secs I get the beep that comes on when the screen is showing Tap to setup your device.
I figured it might be a loose lcd cable, but if go into the bootloader, power+record+reset. The display works fine! Showing Serial V 2.07.
I took apart the BA anyways and made sure the lcd cable is firmly attached. It didn't work.
Sometimes the phone would go back to normal randomly, or if I let the backup battery drain, but not always. When it goes back to normal, the clock is always reset to 2004 12:00 AM.
Can anyone help me? Is it possible to have a loose LCD connector which won't be able to show normal display, but can show the bootloader normally? Or is it caused by something else?
Here are other things about my BA that may or may not be related to the problem:
-Can't use DOC_Repart to resize storage, I'm getting the FL_IOCTL_FORMAT_PHYSICAL_DRIVE failed as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=255585
-When upgrading the upgrade program can't detect my current OS version (showing blank under "Your device is about to be update from:"), but otherwise the upgrade works fine.
-I tried Helmi R0, PDA Viet , and xplode's 6.00 roms. They all give me the same problem
Thanks.
I am also experiencing the same issue... currently phone is at white scren, but using My Mobiler i can see my desktop and see that the phone is fully functional, just white screen so cant use...
Mine too. I can see the display working perfectly using SOTI pocket controller pro. So the phone seems to be functioning except for some reason the screen is showing all white screen.
cubangt, are using an extended battery or the standard battery that comes with the phone?
Have you tried flashing with a different rom??
Sorry, I fear my message won't be useful at all for you, but I'll post it just for the record. I hope you can find the solution to your problem anyway!
My BA now can't show anything but a white screen because of what I think is damage to the screen cable (while sliding the display the backlight goes on and off...).
But the cable is not loosely connected, it is sort of strongly bent at one point, and maybe some contacts got kind of cut. Now it does not work anymore, but some time ago switching it off and the on again used to do the trick: the display would be readable again (even though with annoying colours, stripes and so on). I don't think this is your case, but I'd like to warn the newbies like myself that they should care not to lose any piece while changing the LCD on their BA: I think I probably forgot about some sort of protection which could avoid damages to the cable in its movement.
As for the missing version number when upgrading, the same has always happened to me.. I think.
Ok, sorry for my English, I would have had some troubles with exposing these few silly things even in my mother tongue... bye... and good luck.
I tried 3 different WM6 roms. And if I remembered correctly this also problem also occurred for a brief while I downgraded to WM2003SE while trying to resize the storage(which failed).
Yeah I'm not sure if mine is a hardware problem, since I can always go into the bootloader and the display works fine there.
I have new info to add though. I found out I can reliably get rid of the problem by draining the backup battery. Now I have a new question, since draining the battery takes a while, is there a way to reset the phone as if the backup battery is emptied (and return my display to normal)? If I can find a way to simulate this, then I can actually use my phone again, even if I have to do this once a day.
Obviously soft reset doesn't work. And I don't wanna do a hard reset either. Maybe the experts here now what kind of data is reset when all batteries are completely drained.
Thanks for the help
hmmmm
quick thinking.....i was working on my phone tonight and came across this thread.....if not grounded properly it could be that you statically fried a component in the process?

Hermes wont boot - 4 color bars - help please

Hello everyone. After some researching, this seemed like the best site to answer my question, as I have not found an answer yet.
Yesterday morning, I was running my ATT 8525 (which I believe you refer to as "hermes") just fine. I was using the internet sharing feature, and went to reset the phone. I "believe" I pressed the power button while pressing the "ptt- push to talk" - button. The phone turned off, and when I turned the phone back on, rather than loading like it normally did, I got a new screen.
The screen has 4 color bars. A red bar at the top, then a green bar, then a blue bar, and last, a white bar of color on the bottom. Each bar takes up 1/4 of the screen and runs horizontally. At the top, the phone says, in white text:
HERM100
1PL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
At the bottom of the screen, in the white bar of color, in black text, it says
SERIAL
Now, when I press the power button to turn the phone off, nothing happens. I have to remove the battery to shut off the power. If I plug in a USB cable, the SERIAL text changes to USB. If I press the top two buttons, the one above window and the one above ok, while pressing the stick in to reset the phone, that screen works ok. I believe it is called a "hard reset" It asks if I want to erase all data and restore factory settings, and if so, press r. I press R on the keyboard, and the screen then says reset complete, press space. I press space and then I am back to the screen with 4 color bars. Nothing else I have tried works either. I have been stuck on this screen with 4 color bars since yesterday.
I took my cell phone in to ATT to be looked at and the sales people at the store say that I am 7 days past my warranty, and that they can't/won't repair the phone, but they would be happy to sell me a brand new one... for several hundred dollars.
So, the folks on the internet are my last hope =( If anyone reading this knows anything, even if it is a link to another site or something, that may help me resolve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. If not, I at least thank you for your time reading my post.
- Wormling
Oh, as an additional thought, if it helps, I have not used any of these :baked: roms or any such thing. I bought my phone and used it as is. The one and only change I ever did to my phone was I followed ATT's steps on upgrading from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6, if I remember their names correctly. Hope this helps.
Bootloader. This is the name of the screen according to my research.
"Is your device able to boot Windows Mobile OS?
This one is easy: If can you see your today screen and use your phone as a PDA means you can boot OS. If you only see the splash screen, bootloader screen (tri-color) or windows mobile splash screen you can't boot OS."
Got this from the thread at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
So, I guess I am stuck at the bootloader screen.
Try a Hard reset - hold both soft keys and reset with stylus. Hold in until it asks to reset to factory (whatever). Press "r" on the slideout keyboard and then space. You should go back throught the setup PPC steps.
YOU WILL LOOSE ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR HERMES...This is unescapable as you would any other way you tried to recover your Hermes too.
I suggest if you get it working to install Hard SPL V7 (makes recovery easier) and also pim backup so you can restore all your contacts/messages if something goes wrong again.
Cheers... & good luck.
I have tried hard resetting many times, and it does not work. It says that it succeeds and that factory settings have been restored, and then I am back to the bootloader screen. I have been to the wiki on bricked hermes phones and recovering from a brick. From that, I ascertain I have a type 2 bricked phone (goes directly to bootloader screen). I tried the MTTY tool, and it says that the NAND write was successful on both commands, but, I am still stuck at bootloader screen. I have since tried installing a few different roms, even in SSLL and HARDSPL modes, and nothing has worked.
What I have not tried is the JPIN fix, as I am not an engineer and don't have the tools or knowledge on how to do that. I also don't know how to do the microsoft operating system download fix (using an emulator?)
** UPDATE **
I think it might have been the mtty commands, but I took the battery out overnight, and when I put the battery back in to try the KITL attempt, the phone booted up and started to do the config. I was happy and thought that the phone was fixed, but when it was done with the configurating the phone, it reset back into boot loader screen -_-
You may need to check for bad blocks. This sometimes causes the problems you descibe as well as spontaneous Hard Resets and occasional soft resets.
Do a search for "how to fix bad blocks hermes" and you should get the info you need...
Hope this helps...

Touch Response Problem

I have a Sprint Touch [Vogue]. It has served me very well up until recently.
One day, I was using my phone normally when the battery died. No big deal right?
Well, I charge my phone and reboot it. For some reason, Windows is EXTREMELY slow and unresponsive. I figure that something vital had been corrupted by the battery's death, and that it was nothing that a hard reset couldn't fix.
I performed a hard reset.
I let the utilities for the first boot run to customize the phone. Everything seemed pretty much normal. I configured my settings, re-added my contacts, etc. Then I turned the screen off [with the power button].
I turn it back on later to do something. I touch the screen. It immediately and accurately detects the touch's location, but it continues detecting a touch. For 20-30 seconds, after the input has stopped.
It was strange, so I soft reset the device. It booted, with the same problem. So I performed another hard reset. I did some configuration [the response acting normal at this point], and then turned the screen off. Turning it back on brought the same problem back.
This problem still exists on my phone, even after numerous hard resets and even ROM flashes.
A better description of the problem: When the device is first turned back on [meaning brought out of standby], its touch response is messed up. It will immediately and accurately detect any touch input, but it will continue to detect the input for up to 30 seconds AFTER it has been released, as if you were holding it the whole time.
WHY is this???? My phone is almost unusable because of this!!!! I can still place/ receive calls, using the navigation buttons and the red and green buttons. But the touch response is screwed!
Can someone please shed some light on this problem I'm having?
Phone specs: Windows Mobile 6.1, HTC / Sprint customized. Minimal third party software is currently installed.
[I've already determined that third party software is not the problem, because i haven't installed any!]
Possible solution
Hi,
today I experienced something similar to your description - no touch response when I tried to pickup a call. The strange thing is that last night everything was working and no settings were modified nor programs were added/removed. The screen suddenly 'died'. At the moment I am using it through a program MyMobiler which brings the mobile display to the PC and I can use the mouse to control the phone (it is like VNC for the phone screen, the phone is connected with ActiveSync).
This is temporary solution untill I finish my backups of files, programs, settings. I didnot performed hard reset yet, hope this will solve my problem
In the following link there is a 'magical' solution - to remove the screen protector:
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/1112981/LCD+or+Touch+screen+not+working
P.S. I had removed the screen protector and voilá - the screen is now touch responsive. The root cause of the problem obviously is the dust between the screen and the protector which results in constant screen pressing - and as a result no accepting my finger presses.
I hope this will work for you and others with similar problem.
I had a similar experience with an old Vogue.....In my case, there was no battery death precursor, but it just started acting up. Not too long thereafter, I noticed the screen/digitizer was forming what looked like an air bubble between the digitizer and the LCD on one place of the screen. The screen was becoming defective. I eventually had to buy another Vogue from a friend who didn't have a clue of the 6900's potential, and didn't want his anymore, so I got it cheap.
Sounds like your screen/digitizer may be on it's last leg.

[Q] Black Screen of (permanent) death?

Running the rom in my sig. Downloaded and installed Wikitude world browser from the marketplace, and now I've got the black screen of death. It won't go away even after a reboot. What can I do? I haven't backed up my android in a LONG time and I'm not prepared to lose everything!! Any way I could recover it?
could try using 'android commander' to uninstall the app via the pc?
Hello,
I have a similar problem.
In my case, its truly "permanent".
I haven't installed nothing special, nor did I do anything special that could've triggered this screen of death. I just had the app LiveRadio on for less than 1 hour.
I turned off the screen with the end button, and when I pushed it again, the back lights went on, but no image at all, just black!
I googled this poblem, and tried some solutions, like turning off/on the device, taking out the battery and so on, nothing worked!
The most bizarre thing though, is that the screen is permanently black! It's always black, be it in bootloader mode, spl, mgldr, or something else, no image is displayed.
I even tried to hardreset my android soft (I managed to do it somehow), but this didn't chase away the black screen.
The screen responds though. I managed to use androidscreencast to control the device via my PC, everything works normally, touching the screen triggers the desired commands, it's just pitch black...
Do you think my screen is broken in some way? Or maybe there is a problem inside the phone, a linking issue.
Does anyone have an idea? Thank you in advance.
what you could do, as you are using your pc for doing tasks on your phone, is perform taks 29.. then flash the windows mobile rom (trough sd and rename .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh) this way your HSPL is deleted aswel.. and then what i would do, is send it back to repair.. because i think your screen has a problem.
I don't know if you are able to do all those steps as if you have to pull down the volum (or pull up?) to proceed the windows installation when going first into the 3colored screen.
