I bricked my hermes... - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hehe, I never red "I bricked my Hermes" Threads, because I always thought that this would never happen to me.
<irony>But I've made it yet! yehaw</irony>
Well, I tell you now how to do it, and then hopefully you can help me how to get it back.
1. Okay start by disabling the input methods you dont need, with SKTools. (this has nothing to do with it) (I only need the keyboard and the symbol pad)
2. Download PocketCM Keyboard because you want to write more often with you hands and it's easier to do that with big buttons. So copy the .cab to your device and install it. (this has nothing to do with it)
3. After installation, you wonder that the input method doesn't appear when you tap the down keyboard-symbol.
4. Then you go to Input-Method Settings and try to look in the options for PocketCM keyboard, but a prompt will apear and'll tell you that you can only access the options when it is the standard input method...
5. So, I went to SKTools --> Input-Methods --> Holdtap on the PocketCM Keyboard and set it to standard input-method!
6. Ignore the warning, that it may harm your device, because you know such dialogs of some cabs, which you install, or roms you install...
7. It requires a reboot to set the input-method...
8. Click yes for reboot device...
9. Now, you'll only see the splash screen...
10. Done!!
Not more than 10 steps! Facinating!
Okay, well actually I'm really sad and pissed.
And I really hope that you can help me!!
EDIT:
I'm able to Hard-Reset my Device... But ... I don't want... I haven't sync since 5-6 days

The only chance is to hard reset.

Yes.
You need:
1. SD card (128MB is big enough)
2. Terminal program that can speak through the USB port
3. A CID-unlocked device
Boot to the loader (hold CAMERA while powering on) - the "three color screen". Plug in the phone and kill the wcescomm.exe process on XP (this is the ActiveSync USB driver process)
Start your terminal program and hit return. You should get a command prompt.
Type: "r2sd all"
The phone will dump the enitre ROM, including the extended ROM, to the SD card.
When done it will tell you. Remove hte card and store somewhere safe.
To restore, insert card, hold the CAMERA key and turn the power on. There will be a brief prompt telling you to press the VOICE key if you wish to restore from the SD card. Press the VOICE key.
The phone will restore.
This will work even if you brick it, so long as you can get to the tri-color screen.
Note that it appears NOT to back up the SPL - I just used this to return to the T-Mobile ROM from the new I-Mate one, and EVERYTHING restored EXCEPT for the SPL, which remains at the former level. Not quite sure why..... it should have dumped it all, but that's missing.
However, the restore appears to be fine and it both loaded and went thorugh customization without incident.
great it's very easy actually...but I didnt get it what u mean for terminal program....is there any detail
thanks so much in any case
An ASCII terminal program that can talk out the USB port.
Terraterm (there's a patch for it) is one option; there are several others as well. Basically you need to be able to open an ASCII terminal connection to the USB port on the device.
GREAT THANXXXXXX 8)
SPL`
What is the SPL?
There are two little pieces of code that start up the phone. "IPL" or Initial Program Load" and "SPL" or "System (or software) Program Load"
For reasons I don't quite understand the SPL does not get restored reliably off a SD restore. It doesn't hurt anything, but it does leave you with a changed version number on the splash screen.

newbie : how to uninstall "standard" programs

hi,
i am a former palm user and proud new owner of a spv m600. i have been surfing around but still am a little lost.
how does one delete one of the standard programs delivered with the device. for example, orange has delivered internet explorer or zip. i would like to delete them and add a different program, but i do not see them in the unistall list.
how is it done ? thanks in advance,
scott
u cant, those files are in rom and belong to the operation system.
You can possibly
Check out this link. You have to do a hard reset first
http://wiki.howardforums.com/pocketpc/index.php/Selectively_Bypassing_the_Extended_ROM
Device manufacturers are beginning to place unnecessary third party software preloaded onto PDA's, the same way computers come from the factory. Unfortunately, this new software is often buggy and of questionable usefulness. Also, there is no clean way to remove some of this third party software once it is installed. The best way to keep it from making your device buggy is never to install it in the first place.
Unfortunately, since many devices have no way to edit the Extended ROM since it is locked, we need a way around it. This How to details how we can get around the Extended ROM by soft resetting before it gets a chance to install and then selectively running the cab files with a nifty little program called Total Commander.
1. The first step to selectively bypassing your Extended ROM is to download Total Commander from here:
http://ghisler.fileburst.com/ce/tcmdpocketarm.cab
You need to take this file and place it on a storage card on your device. You can do this by syncing your device, opening up my computer double clicking on mobile device, double clicking on My Windows Mobile-Based Device, and then Double Clicking on the Storage Card. Copy the CAB file there, but DO NOT INSTALL IT ON YOUR SYSTEM.
2. The next step is hard reseting your device. Since all devices are different, I can't explain how to do this precisely. On my Windows Mobile 5.0 device, I just goto Programs then tap Clear Storage, and watch the device reset. After it resets, the Windows Mobile menu will come up and ask you to align the screen, teach you how to copy and paste. When it ends, a Screen will come up and tell you that configuration is finished and tell you to tap to continue. Now pay attention, timing is crucial. As soon as you tap to continue, you need to soft reset your device before the device customization menu gets a chance to install. You don't want the extended rom to begin installing.
3. Now after the device hard resets, you should get the today screen. If you don't and you're back in the align screen section then you should complete it again and soft reset a little bit later than when you started. If it says device customizing then soft reset immediately, before anything gets installed. From the Today Screen you need to goto Start>Programs>File Explorer. In File Explorer, navigate to your storage card and run the total commander cab. Total Commander should now install. After it's installed, goto Start>Programs and open it.
4. Now type "\Extended_ROM\" (match exact case) into the location bar of total commander to make your Extended_ROM suddenly appear. From this screen you will see the cab files . Choose the CAB files you would like to install. You have now bypassed the Extended ROM. You have some choices now. If you are like me and don't want specific programs to install such as antivirus, skype and backgammon. Run every cab, but those specific cabs. They won't install and muck up your system and you will be all set. If you want to do research and only install the cabs you need you can do that too. Sites like XDA-Developers often keeps lists of all cab files found in device extended roms and what each file does so you can decide what you want and what you don't.
Hope this helps you out

gs tweak for t9 input

anyone know where I can get this file cheers
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the one you mean... it worked for me.. Sorry if it won't.. but try it anyway.. goodluck!
I think thats the one but without sounding stupid how do you install the files. even when unziped no setup file there
its a cab file. not a zip file. just run it on the phone
Once I've installed the cab file, what do I do to have the phone pad show when composing a text?
Thanks
Darrone
it makes it difficult to answer questions without any detail. In theory you just need to choose the phonepad option in the list of available input methods.
If however you are using an orange rom or there might be some others that have a problem with phonepad. Then you need to go into settings, into system, into G4 SIP Hide, Into Sip settings and set Phone Pad to be the default. Then give it a quick soft reset to be sure and now when you select phonepad from the list it should work.
ps. I must have answered this question about 10 times now and i even had a whole thread about this where me and another guy posted all the info and all the files in it.
This was a while ago though so i will let you off. Still a few mins on the search and i am sure it must come up. Then again the search does weird things sometimes. Let me know if any probs.
Hi,
Could you tell me how to install the .cab file on my M700 once i've downloaded it to my PC. I can't seem to figure it out

GWES test

This is an another GWES.
Installation:
1.Install certificate SDKSamplePrivDeveloper.cer
2.Copy GWES2.EXE to \windows\
3.Run registry editor and go to HKLM\init
4.Find parameter with gwes.exe string and change it to gwes2.exe.
5. flush registry
6. do soft reset
inform me what you see and what kind of bugs you have.
NOTE: a lot of programs isn't working, other working incorrectly.
Mouse
if you want to control mouse, run my mouse.exe.
It will show message box without text.
Minimize it. Use direction pad keys to move mouse around screen.
Use action key to left mouse click.
If you want to disable mouse, close message box.
Uninstallation
you can run registry editor and change value in HKLM\init back back to GWES.EXE.
If no, do a hard reset.
Be sure that you have backup - probably, you will need to do a hard reset.
Please test it!
Can you please explain for which devices and OS, is it for?
Thanks
yeah.
you must have point in making gwes,uh, something...
it is so close thing to core, that it may be useless for 99% users.
i am curious, why are you doing this?
Install something (what IS it anyway?) that's likely to need a hard reset? Not gonna happen!

hi THEVK,
please give more infos to users, otherwise i don't think you'll find someone who installs it (with the hardreset risk)
I've tried it on my Atom , but it stucks at the bootscreen
This for WM 5.0 and WM 6.0.
No WM 2003 SE.

hey, do you read topic title?
it's say exactly "test".
This is based on Microsoft original stuffs, I do it for one project.

Yes I read it. You still haven't said what it is, just that it's "based on Microsoft original stuffs" and that you might need to hard reset your device. If you want people to test your junk for you, you're going to have to provide a LOT more information than that.
i do "hard-reset" every now and then...
i did it again because of this testing gwes...
this is what i had after installing it (see the screenshot below), and i didn't get any "mouse" with the "mouse.exe"...
but the worst of all is that i still have no idea about what it is for....

How to batch install software after flash

Hey guys,
Could someone point me in the direction of a good batch installer.
I've reflashed my phone and i don't want to spend 10 days reinstalling everything.
I tried using SDConfig.txt but it won't start.
I know there were some threads talking about this...but hey...the search feature didn't help.
Thanks
A very good question, I'd like to see what else beside SDconfig can be used. It's been rendered useless on Itje's newer ROMs.
see post#2 of the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509891
look for:
4- CAB batch installer by helloworld1: neat, small, smart app to automatically install all of your apps after a flash or hard reset
I did see that link since luck would have it ... I reflashed with that exact same rom
The reason why I didn't want to use that tools is
"Problems:
1. The small utility can not silently install cab files. "
For a batch installer I think that is A MAIN REQUIREMENT...
I have almost 40 cabs...using a "batch installer" thats waiting for each one to prompt me a confirmation is ludicrous...
Any other ideas?

I agree, it's important to have silent installation.
However, that would mean an override would need to be done so that each confirmation selection would install it to either the device or the storage memory.

Something like the SDConfig mechanism would be just fine.
Plus I rarely keep stuff on my SD Card anyway (besides Tom Tom that is...and even that doesn't need to be reinstalled - you can just copy a link to the start menu and you're done)
And what about Sashimi autoinstaller? Personally haven't use it. But I saw a post in BlueAngel's XDA forum wrote by red-hanks. It installs CAB, .REG., and .XML files.
Maybe this would be helpfull.
I think SKTools should be able to do it. Read the manual (http://s-k-tools.com/sktoolsm.pdf) on page 37. There you will find the command- line parameters for silent installation.
I recommend Sashimi Auto Installer. It does what you guys want.
You put all the cabs you want to install in the CAB Folder and then start the autoinstaller. It will go 1 by 1 and install. After it's all finished, it will ask you if you want to restart the phone. It will silently install the cabs (but still shows what it's installing currently), it just won't ask you anything until the end. This goes with registry edits as well and other files.

Sounds good. What does it do with CABs that require user input to finish installation? (For instance G-alarm, FingerKB etc.)
Thanks guys...this is exactly what I needed!

u can stick those ones in a "Manual" install mode in Sashimi. give it a go - looks confusing but it's incredibly flexible / powerful.
With the FingerKB, it would just popup the settings and wait for you to finish.. it will only continue once you have saved the settings.
I can't seem to find Sashimi Auto Installer - the top search result points to a thread with the first posts blank ("..........................") by a user that appears to have been banned?
Here it is
