Hey guys,
Could someone point me in the direction of a good batch installer.
I've reflashed my phone and i don't want to spend 10 days reinstalling everything.
I tried using SDConfig.txt but it won't start.
I know there were some threads talking about this...but hey...the search feature didn't help.
Thanks
A very good question, I'd like to see what else beside SDconfig can be used. It's been rendered useless on Itje's newer ROMs.
see post#2 of the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509891
look for:
4- CAB batch installer by helloworld1: neat, small, smart app to automatically install all of your apps after a flash or hard reset
I did see that link since luck would have it ... I reflashed with that exact same rom
The reason why I didn't want to use that tools is
"Problems:
1. The small utility can not silently install cab files. "
For a batch installer I think that is A MAIN REQUIREMENT...
I have almost 40 cabs...using a "batch installer" thats waiting for each one to prompt me a confirmation is ludicrous...
Any other ideas?

I agree, it's important to have silent installation.
However, that would mean an override would need to be done so that each confirmation selection would install it to either the device or the storage memory.

Something like the SDConfig mechanism would be just fine.
Plus I rarely keep stuff on my SD Card anyway (besides Tom Tom that is...and even that doesn't need to be reinstalled - you can just copy a link to the start menu and you're done)
And what about Sashimi autoinstaller? Personally haven't use it. But I saw a post in BlueAngel's XDA forum wrote by red-hanks. It installs CAB, .REG., and .XML files.
Maybe this would be helpfull.
I think SKTools should be able to do it. Read the manual (http://s-k-tools.com/sktoolsm.pdf) on page 37. There you will find the command- line parameters for silent installation.
I recommend Sashimi Auto Installer. It does what you guys want.
You put all the cabs you want to install in the CAB Folder and then start the autoinstaller. It will go 1 by 1 and install. After it's all finished, it will ask you if you want to restart the phone. It will silently install the cabs (but still shows what it's installing currently), it just won't ask you anything until the end. This goes with registry edits as well and other files.

Sounds good. What does it do with CABs that require user input to finish installation? (For instance G-alarm, FingerKB etc.)
Thanks guys...this is exactly what I needed!

u can stick those ones in a "Manual" install mode in Sashimi. give it a go - looks confusing but it's incredibly flexible / powerful.
With the FingerKB, it would just popup the settings and wait for you to finish.. it will only continue once you have saved the settings.
I can't seem to find Sashimi Auto Installer - the top search result points to a thread with the first posts blank ("..........................") by a user that appears to have been banned?
Here it is

Hello XDA users....
I think you know it all, that the ROMkitchen is a fine application to get our device nearly perfect.
But the ROMkitchen is out of date. This means many applications aren´t not in the actual version. Therefore Auburnham and I thought to update the applications.
The problem is, that the amount of added applications to the kitchen is to big to make this happen by us two. Because of this problem I´m searching for some people, which wants to help.
Another problem is, that you need for this a device that haven´t got installed that piece of software. This means that when you want to help me with Phonext for example, you must have a device without any version of Phonext installed.
So, if you are going to help me make a snapshot of your device with the ssnap - Application.
Install the software.
Make again an Snapshot of your device with the ssnap - Application.
Send these two files to [email protected] with inforamtion about the program you have installed and the exact Version you have installed.
When I´ve got analyzed the two files i will reply to you with a wishlist of files that have been created on your device. After sending me the files, i can update the kitchen....
IF there are any quesions or anything else, feel free to contact me....
Regards
Stefan
Good Idea :
I'd be happy to contribute.
Tell me which application you want me to install and I'll do it provided that I find the procedure (that I've seen being posted elsewere in this forum).
NB : I'm using XDA I with a Frenchy 3.16 and be stuck with it  ; so there is no chance for me to re-build a new a geniun 3.16 Rom again.
My XDA is all up and running.
I've overcome my Language FRA error message after purchasing a SD card reader and loading the ROM through the bootloader. 8)
Now, I'm about to install ttn 3 on my XDA. Do you want list it in your kitchen ?
What do you need exactly ?
I would be happpy to help. I am a regular user of your site and appreciate the effort that has been put into it.
I understand the effort needed to keep things working and up to date.

I'm in!!
Just let me know what you need and when and I will maker every endevour to help.
Thanks for all you do

I've sent these snapshots off to Stefan, along with the files that I thought might be necessary for these programs. This is going to be great for all of us, but a lot of work for Stefan. We all owe him a great deal, so take him out for a nice meal the next time you see him.

I don't want to make this any more complicated than it is, but for some programs, it just doesn't make any sense to install to the XDA memory. Most of the media players and "Misc" programs just take up too much unnecessary device memory when they would work just as well on the SD Card (if that's available).
The problem is that those huge programs require just a few small files to be placed on the device itself. So after installing a few of these types of programs, you've used up a lot of device memory from these small files, even though you installed the program to your SD Card.
Is there a way to alter the kitchen a bit to allow cooking of the necessary device files only, and allow the user to later install the program to the SD Card (being careful not to overwrite the files in ROM with files in RAM)?
For instance, with the TomTom program, if you start with a clean ROM and SD card, take a snapshot, then install the program to your SD card, then take another snapshot, you could determine what files need to be on the device, and what files don't need to be on the device, and allow users to either cook the entire program or just the necessary files in the ROM. (Note: This is a good example of a run-on sentence). Would this be a difficult feature to add to the kitchen?

Maybe the esiest Option is adding a new Select Point for the kitchen like "misc", "System Tools", "Phone" ....
This means having the programs double in the kitchen, but how cares.
I don't know exactly, but when you install a program to the SD-Card, could you select the part where to place it?
If yes, this could be a big problem. Many of the programs store the path in the registry.
If no, i could also provide a ZIP-file, where the rest of the programfiles are in, hust to unzip to the Storagecard.....

I believe this really depends on (1) how well the program was written, and (2) if you can install the program with CabInst (i.e. has a cab installation).
For example, I try to keep my SD Card organized and tidy so if I use CabInst I install the program to an appropriate folder on the SD Card. If I have to install the program from the desktop, I install the program to the SD Card root, then try to move the program to an appropriate folder and update the shortcut. Most of the time this works without even changing any registry entries, but sometimes it doesn't. Two examples from the above list of applications are AOL Instant Messenger 2.0 and Pocketmind PocketMusic 3.0. To function correctly, they both need to be in their original installation folders on the SD Card.
But perhaps the best solution would be to have an associated .zip file to go on the SD Card, as you suggested.
Shawn
Now the kitchen should be up 2 date again.
Only missing is PocketConsole and the Part "Software that needs to register"
So happy cooking and again Thx a lot to all users that helped me.....
Stefan
A Windows-way for cooking a ROM would be great for two reasons: 1) Don't hassle your server with lots of traffic and 2) Practical. Advanced users could cook a ROM without having a PC with Unix.
For example I tried cooking the Spanish version of the ROM and not all the programs I chose were installed and the worst thing is that the boot logo was just garbage, it was showing program code on the screen as a logo

Marton

Ok. Fixed the problem with the bootscreen.....
Tried also adding as much application, and all have been installed.
Can you tell me, what files / programs are missing?
No one else told me that there have been a problem wirth this ROM. I think it's because of the situation that most of the useres are using WM2003 ROMS....
You can also use the kitchen under "Windows" just have to set up a Cyguin environment on your system....
Also i didn't know how many Kitchen's are implemented by other users, but mine one is the only "official". You can't believe that everyone would be able to set it up.......
Stefan
Thanks Stefan!!!!!!
Now it seems to work but if EzWAP is selected, it throws a Log error when trying to cook...
Cheers,
Marton
P.S.: Do you know if a Spanish WM2003 exists?
Edit: This is the error:
Cannot fit files in given sections
Error splitting files
Just cooked a ROM... I selected the "Windows Mobile XDA" Boot Screen and now it is not garbage anymore but now it shows mirrored and upside down...
Any ideas?

Windows Mobile Package Manager 0.0.2
Windows Mobile Package Manager will help you to create software bundles and install them on WM device unattended.
Currently, it's only early pre-alpha software, to ensure that concept is working. So, expect software crashes
Description:
The life of WM device, is hard. Constant ROM flashing, re-install everything, or recover from backup. Owning WM device for an year, I really hate to reinstall everything after new ROM flash, so i decided to make software that will capture the essence of "your device":
With this application you can create package, that will do those things:
Install software that you like
Restore application configuration / settings (via registry)
Copy your files to device (video / pictures / etc.)
How it works:
Every .cab file, have information about itself. What it's name, how it should be installed and where. This application WILL MODIFY .cab information, so that it will be installed to the path, that you want. This is done, to allow unattended installation. (maybe you have a better solution than wceload.exe /noaskdest /noui /nodelete)

Great Work... looking forward to see the "TODO" workin'.
good work, waiting for your next versions!
couple of suggestions:
- integration with XDAUC
- add \Internal Storage\Program Files
- auto-load last configuration
- fix the typos in: "Instalation path managment" => "Installation path management"

Registry import, is almost complete, file copy should be simple to do.
It will generate .cab file for your .reg file. This was the easy way to implement this. But there is a drawback.. it does not allow non-ASCII characters in registry section of the .cab setup.
Updated to 0.0.2
Changes:
* Added registry support.
* Added file copy support.
* Updated usage video.
Feel free to try it
One question...
I export the Reg files with SKTools, but when i import them to your aplication there's no registry file tree...
Can you explain how to backup the reg files?
Thanks and keep up the good work!

hm, can you attach your .reg file that was not parsed correctly?
did you by any chance exported the whole device registry (ie registry backup?)
Provisioning xml files support
Would you add support for parsing provisioning xml files?
Great app! Are you planning to make a mobile version (for making changes 'on the fly')? Another superb option for mobile version would be backup! For backing up current registry entries (specified in a ini file - something like in this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=491175).

1. Great!
2. I understand you but don't agree, that it defeats the purpose of this app. I would say it extends its usage (I can imagine, that I need it, but don't have my laptop with me... and this isn't only imagination - I already use some tools to do that). No doubts, that on a PC you can make it more comfortably, but...
3. I know and I use CeRegEditor often, but when I can use just one app... Another thing I can make a real up-to-date backup (many apps have their settings in registry and settings can change from time to time). This option would be great specially for the mobile version.
4. And what about restoring PIM backup (e.g. from PPCPIMBackup)?
I am a flashing junkie and I'm searching for such app for a long time (I wish I could make my own app, but I'm not a programmer).
I hope you understand 'my' english

2. Yes, but it's not the main use-case It's just adds additional overhead for the development, as you have to sync the mobile client and the PC client. If for example mobile client is used only by 2-3 people
3. I'm already thinking for a way to do that Probably via ActiveSync. So, for example in the UI you could define, what registry keys should be backuped, save this info in some config, and re-apply to different device. Again ,when you creating package, you can attach your WM device, and get those registry keys on the fly to the app. Something like.. live migration from WM device
4. Yes, this is good idea Again, goes well with the described above
Yes, I also like to try new ROMs.. and also was searching for something like this.. or at least the automatic .cab installation Didn't find app that suits me.. so decided to make one
I got some errors by restoring (copying) folders: e.g. "Could not find file 'Storage Card\CopyApplication Data' (when I want to restore Application Data folder).
Is it a bug or is just by me?
thx
Many Thanks

I only try software install software, not registry nor file transfer.
Up to now, I found a small bug :
During software installation (nearly 14 items) process, the information at the info page disappeared at the middle of installation. But after the installation finished, "Installation Finished" explanation displayed.
Could you please include a SETTING Page to select which programmes will be installed. For now, it can only be used during the first full installation. According to me, Selection option will be very usefull and make your wonderfull programme better and usage
Again my thanks and hoping to see new versions.

The clue's in the error message (and the 1st post in the BsB Tweaks thread).
You need to download and install .Net 3.5.
I believe there's a link for it in the BsB Tweaks thread.

Snerkler,
Your learning curve is a steep one but let's battle on.
I have just gone to the same thread/post and downloaded the file you should have downloaded. If that's not what you have, go back and download the correct file type. Its a zipped file with a load of other files in it. This type of zipped file is called a cab file.
Connect your phone to your pc via activsync (read the manual, it tells you how), then copy this cab file (do not extract it, just copy it across as it is) to your phone.
Next, open file explorer on your phone (you will find this tool if you click Start at the top left of your phone and scroll down), find the cab file, double tap on it and it will install.
Job done.
WB
PS: Don't forget to get into the habit of posting in existing threads to get specific answers. So for BSB Tweaks, post in that thread. Chances are your query has already been answered in that thread.

Use the one that Gavinbat suggested above...

And ignore the stuff about editing the registry. Don't worry about that. Just install the cab on your device and then BsB Tweaks will work.

Snerkler,
Your learning curve is a steep one but let's battle on.
Job done.

PS: Don't forget to get into the habit of posting in existing threads to get specific answers. So for BSB Tweaks, post in that thread. Chances are your query has already been answered in that thread.

Thanks. Got the .cab file this time. I have no trouble installing .cab files but for somereason it didn't extract first time, therefore I thought I had to do something with all the other files :-/
I've got BsB tweaks up and running now, but it still doesn't seem to function properly. It doesn't seem to have changed opera in the sense that I still can't click links unless I zoom in. I do have the opera link click turned on.
Also when I check the boxes for the programs I want to use rotation for they uncheck themselves everytime I leave the menu. I will have a look at that BSB tweaks thread and see if anyone else has had these issues.

You definitely need to read up on BsB, because you're expecting something that's not correct.
Just spend some time reading the thread - there's a lot of help in there, so don't just skip to the end
Glad you got it running at least
Hi
I read this thread a couple of times and still didn't get it right.
Can you please help me?
i downloaded all the needed files. first i installed Net 3.5. than i restarted and then i installed the BsB Tweaks cab file and then i restarted the phone again. when i tryed to activate the BsB Tweaks app it gave me the the error you have been talking about here, and i can't get past this problem...
any suggestions?
So I flashed Energy ROM not too long ago and I had to back up a number of applications on my phone to my SD card before I did it. Knowing that I might flash newer ROMs as they come along, I figured that I might as well keep everything on my SD card permanently. The only problem with this is that WM doesn't know it's installed. That is to say that whenever I update an application, the device treats it like a new installation and doesn't ask me if I want to uninstall the old version first. Secondly, certain applications (like most of Astraware's games) don't appear to be happy opening unless they're installed properly (I assume it's expecting certain registry keys to be there).
So what have most of the ROM flashers on this forum done to make sure all of their applications are working right immediately after a new flash?

If you flash a ROM, you have to reinstall all the applications. Some of the ROMS will automatically install your cab files if you set it up. WM has to update the registry for each program, and the details may be different for each ROM, and for each time a particular ROM changes versions. So, yes, you ARE doing a new install.

But really isn't it silly to do all of that work?
Surely there is something you can change in Windows Mobile that will tell it a specific application is installed on the device. For the registry keys, I can simply write a Mortscript that adds and updates the keys for all of the applications I typically want on the device. If I add an application, I just add its keys to the script. Ideally, I'd just like to run this script every time I flash a new ROM and have all of the dependencies set up automatically. I'm not sure, however, what I need to edit in order to make the operating system thing an application is installed (basically it appears on the "Remove Applications" list)
Yuu need something like this then [UC]XDA_UC Autoconfiguration User To User Thread[23-06-2009]
You should take note that I'm not sure if that's the latest version. But if you throw all your cabs in the XDA_UC folder and follow the instructions of the thread there you'll have it installing ALL your aps automatically when you flash a new rom

I believe that the ROM has to support this feature. So far as I know my ROM (NRG) does not, for example. But if it is supported it is great.

Well, I actually don't plan to be changing ROMs all that often. So far the latest NRG ROM is working well for me.
Yes, it is a lot of work, but I have all my .cab files in a single directory. So installing them is not that hard. My experience is that this method (or one of the auto install methods) provides the highest possibility of a stable WM environment.
I believe that you could probably create a script to put in the registry entries, but what if the ROM version has changed locations in the registry? Anyway, if you DO develop such a script, be sure and post the results on the forums!
the latest NRG roms do support this.

Sorry if there is an answer somewhere already, but I have been looking around for 20 minutes and I'm giving up and posting a thread. I have like five programs that won't uninstall when I go into the settings-->remove programs application. It comes up with a message that says "XXXX was not completely removed. Do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs?"
Has anybody had this also? How do I get it completely off my phone/get the memory back?
One more thing, I have a program called "AA AA" and I know for sure that I didn't install a cab with that name, so what the hell is it? I'm a noob with WinMo so sorry if it's simple **** haha.
Thanks in advance

For programs that say they didn't uninstall completely, the method I use to get them out is this:
1) run the cab again, the same one you used to install a/the app in the first place
2) when it gives you option or error dialogs, just click "ok" or "yes" to all of them, to allow it to go through what looks like another complete install process (yes, it's odd, but this is how to do it).
3) when it's done, soft-reset, and then you should find that there's no more trace of the app in your uninstall list.
Don't ask me how/why that works, but I've used it in many instances for just that reason, and it's worked every time I tried it.
As for that "AA AA" app, I've certainly never seen a cab that used that name (fyi, the name in the uninstall list doesn't necessarily match the name of the cab file...only if the person creating it set it up that way). So...I'd just say uninstall it, and see if any apps/links are missing then.
This thread is closest to my problem,so I'm asking here.
I cant uninstall ANY of my programs, I have tried the usual method from the remove programs section in Settings. I get same error as OP.
When that failed I then try to just delete the program folder from program files, using file explorer, but get an error saying 'Access is denied. Be certain the folder isn't in use and not write protected'
At first I thought I had a memory card problem, but its the same regardless of where the program is installed.
I also tried to re-install the programs from their cab files as described above, but get an 'unsuccessful' message.
I cant rename any files anywhere on my device either.
I know a little about write protection, but cant figure out what my problem is or how to fix it.
I hope I explained properly for someone to help.
Thanks.
It looks like that the installer process "wceload.exe" was not correctly quit and is still in the memory. Terminate the process wceload.exe with a task manager and try again.
Thanks ElectronX.
I did a search on my HD2 for the file you mentioned and couldn't find it. I have Duttys task manager installed and after a soft reset, the problem still remains. The task manager is empty of processes when I start the device.
Im sorry that Im a bit clueless to how to achieve what you suggest.
I have discovered that the problem extends beyond removing and installing programs. I cant do anything in file explorer other than open documents. If I want to move, delete, rename any file on the device I get the 'write protected' error message. I cant do it via active sync either..I connected to the computer and could browse my device, but if I tried deleting, moving or renaming, the message said it didn't have permission to do it.
Last resort is a hard reset, but hopefully someone will be able to help.
Use sktools to uninstall when windows fails. Best program ever...
Good luck
Thanks, but I cant install anything on my device...can sktools be run from my computer to fix the device?
Unfortunately not...
Good luck though..
