Hi, I'm off to spain next month and know a good spot for free wifi, however I have the usual problem of not being able to send email via outlook on my spv m600 device. I am aware that this relates to smtp settings.
Is there a way of finding out the smtp settings, e.g. by discovering the service provider? The wifi is unlocked and available in a central square so good for a coffee and surf/email. It isn't advertised in any of the cafes or anything, so can't ask anybody - might be a nearby hotel or house or business. Think it goes by the name "wlancomtrend".
Is there a software solution, or other way to find out ISP and smtp. I will try smtp.telefonica.net but if that doesn't work then what next?

You need to find out from the service provider the access point name for gprs connection, username and password, and domain if applicable. Once you have this information and if the gprs is functional, it is smooth sailing. for browsing, you must find out if your isp requires proxy. if so, you must configure proxy settings in the connection manager. msn messenger works most of the times without proxy. it is possible that if web browsing requires proxy, you can't connect to msn messenger with the same connection settings.

I have the same problems. Nobody in Spain knows how to set my o2 to work in the Internet using GPRS. I asked the providers by their ****ing short number (It was vodafone) But There are no any specialists at this country. They can do NOTHING. They do not know anything. I asked everybody at different provider´s offices but I haven´t had the right answers. HELP ME PLEASE to SET MY O2 TO WORK WITH INTERNET IN MADRID.
They gave me different variants of "access point name", username, password and so on. But no one of their settings work. I´m ready to change my provider, that vodafon. I´m ready to do everything to get right settings to get to the internet. Help me please. I can not live without my mobility.
Hi, got a new XDA Exec on 02 and am trying to work out how to get connected to the internet and email. Anyone got any recommendations for a good ISP? What is everyone else using?
Thanks for any help and happy new year!
hi!
happy new year to you too!
your ISP is actually your mobile carrier.... in your case, if you bought the exec from o2, then o2 are the isp
on an o2 exec, they are pre-configured for gprs or 3g internet access out of the box on the o2 network......providing you have used a sim that has data facilities enabled.....just click on the internet explorer icon and it should connect automatically
if you are using someone else's sim (i think the exec comes sim unlocked) then you will need to maually create the connections for that mobile provider (start, settings, connections, add new connection)
www.filesaveas.com/gprs.htm is a good source for all the major mobile providers settings
if you are connecting via wifi, then that is governed by the wifi device.....in hotspots it generally is pay as you go (btopenzone, tzones etc) but obvioulsy a home it is just picking up your home wifi connection
hope this helps!
Thanks!
Thanks for your help! I can now connect to the internet! I used the 02 settings. Also discovered the joy of there being Wifi at the station when the trains were cancelled but wasn't able to log on as it didn't accept the phone number it asked for when selecting O2 as the provider for some reason. Haven't worked out how to get email yet either but that's my next challenge!
Thanks again
I recently changed to the 3 network from o2 and I'm having real serious problems with email.
I have subscribed to the internet10 add-on and I want to be able to use it primarily for checking emails, however mobile Outlook is not connecting to my 1and1 server. I have no problem with my o2 SIM (with the o2 GPRS connection settings) or WLAN, so I know my settings are correct.
I have no problem surfing the internet using mobile IE, so the connection is set up OK, I just can't check my emails, which is really all I want to do.
Does anybody have any experience with this? I have tried using the search function, but "3" and "three" are such generic terms I'm getting about a million hits...:-/
Also, I could really use the 3/Qtek 9000 ROM so I have all the relevant 3 software. If anyone has that I'd be very grateful too!
Thanks in advance.
Is there really nobody here that is using a QTek 9000 on 3...?
Are you getting web pages on the 3Services connection with the internet pack? I.e you can browse outside the 3 garden like get SMH. If you can and outlook is not working try another mail program or try pinging it from the command line to test connectivity. You can use the task manager if you have the Helmi rom it comes build in to ping your mailserver. Or try pocketTTy to telnet to your mail server on ports 25 and 110. If you cannot telnet it's possible that 3 blocks incoming and outgoing port 25 and 110 connections to stop the use of other mailservers. You could try the 3Netaccess connection which is the same as connecting the to the internet but that is charged at $4 per mb unless you sign up for one of the internet packs. If you find you can telnet try another mail program like flex Mail.
Good luck

ha I just noticed that your are from England. We have the same addon pack in Australia. You can try what I suggested but the access points would change.
Hey guys!
I also use the 3 network, but I live in Austria. The problem is, that in Austria Three doesn't support the Qtek 9000, so I don't have the original ROM. Is it posible that someone could send me this ROM via email or rapidshare?
I got most of the things (like MMS, Planet3, Email) to work, but I sill can not watch mobile TV...
Can you please help me with this MobileTV thing?
Hi,
Has anyone managed to get a VPN connection working properly with t-mobile web'n'walk? I suspect this wont work as all t-mobile connections are sent through a transparent proxy but I just thought I'd check. I remember reading on the Internet that they have a different GPRS access point for VPN connections but they won't give me access unless I'm a business customer. Has anyone managed to get this provisioned on their account? It seems a bit of a con to sell phones that are capable of VPN access and then to tell their customers they can't use it. Does anyone know if the web'n'walk pro service give it's users a public routeable IP address?
Can't imagine they do... Read a figure of 2,500,000 3G phones sold as opposed to the expectation of a few hundred thousand on a MoDaCo thread... I just don't think they'd have the available ipblocks, even though they're given connectivity by the Deutche Telecom aspect of their business... Doesn't seem feasible.
Surely if you initiate a VPN from your phone to a server, the transparent proxy will know to route any incoming responses back to your device?
I need to set up a smartphone to access a server behind a firewall which will require a PPTP VPN connection. I confess to being a long term symbian user but there don't appear to be any symbian clients.
Having found this website I'm encouraged to find the depth of available information and support and the HTC TYTN II looks like a great device so I'll be getting one.
So, what mobile network should I use that is least likely to give me grief (blocking protocols etc) and/or has accessible support people that understand these sort of issues? My current operator is Orange and has the best coverage where I live. Vodaphone is a disaster - have to go out to the street for a voice call. O2 and T-Mobile are inbetween.
Any other tips/observations would be much appreciated.
