Annoying 'No modem at remote address' Popup - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi all,
I currently have an Exec running Crossbow (but this problem predates back to when it was running the stock original ROM)..
I use TomTom a lot on my Exec, I also use a lot of web based services. When travelling around I get a wierd bug in the GPRS / UTMS modem code, the modem will disconnect and is unable to reconnect to GPRS / UTMS with a warning similar to "No Modem at remote address", this is displayed as a popup that you have to click "Dismiss" on, this creates 2 problems:
1. I cannot reconnect to the Internet via GPRS unless I disable phone (enable flight mode) OR reboot my Exec
2. When trying to use TomTom and that popup occurs, it messes up TomTom, I can click dismiss but it repeatedly pops up every minute making navigation impossible (because I have to either quit TomTom and disable/enable phone, or I have to reboot Exec).
Does anyone know how to solve either of these problems? I would prefer to have it so that the Exec silently reconnects and keeps retrying, and if it can't connect it should restart GPRS module.
Thankyou,

*BUMP* Please can someone respond to how to solve this please?

GPRS/3G connection problem with o2 XDA Excec.

Hi guys,
I'm all new to your forum...
I have the o2 xdII, xdaIIs and now i'm using the xda Exec.
I have a strange problem that even o2 technical support team can't fix...
When i start internet explorer it will connect to either gprs or 3g (whatever is available). when i finish browsing the internet, i just close internet explorer and then close the connection by clicking the disconnect button. Where my problem is, is when i want to reconnect to the internet again (say 5 mins after i close the last connection), i cant get any connection whatsoever. I have a good receiption (gprs and 3g). And i have this weird message :
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings.
So after a lot of talking with o2, i still have this problem.
I have tried to uprgrade to the new rom, and nothing, i have change the settings of the cennection, still nothing. i even changed the handset as i and o2 thought it could have been a faulty handset, but still nothing...
The only solution at the present is to do a soft reset everytime i want to connect to the internet... Its very annoying !!!!
Would annyone have a solution ??? Please ?????
Thank you in advance for your help....
Personally; I wouldn't suggest closing the connection and you won't get charged any extra.
this is easy to fix, but you will lose some software you've got installed.
I had this problem and have worked it out to be conflicts between software that handles the phone line. I had mortring, phonealarm and photo contacts pro installed and my gprs would not reconnect after the 2nd attempt. Putting the phone into flight mode and then back into normal mode would allow gprs to reconnect but only once.
So I uninstalled the above 3 applications one by one and found the gprs would reconnect great with only one installed (any one it didn't matter)
So try removing software that handles the phone line until your gprs reconnect works.

just need some help with 3 problems with the o2 exec

hello all,
problem 1:
recently my exec has been dropping calls just as they connect. signal seems to jump up and down quite frequently and i'm not receiving some messages from abroad and some messages sent abroad don't make it to the receiver either.
that last issue may be a network issue as it seems to only happen randomly but is getting worse.
would a hard reset help much or is something else wrong here?
any insight would be much appreciated.
problem 2:
i want to disable or remove the voice command application that comes built in the exec (cybertronics?), i don't use it but it locks up the phone on odd occasions.
anyway to remove it without some extensive tinkering.
problem 3:
i remember a friend used to be able to connect his ipaq to his pc then run msn messenger on the ipaq (whilst cradled). is this possible with the exec as it doesn't seem to get a good wifi signal unless i'm right next to the wifi router.
i would have had a 4th problem but i just got AS working finally and jeyo mobile companion to go with it Very Happy
again, any help with any of these problems would be much appreciated.
regards,
haji.
having the same problem with signal. If i was in a location with no signal and i move to a location with good signal, the phone does not seem to detect this change. I have to reset the phone for it to get signal. so disapointed.... just sharing, sorry, ive got no solution.
For problem 3:
If you right click on ActiveSync icon in your system tray (version 4.2 not sure where the option i is on older versions) and choose "Connection Settings..." then there is an option which says:
"This computer is connected to:" and my copy was defaulted to "My work network", changing this to "The Internet" allows me to browse the internet using my computers internet on my XDA Exec.
I think this is what your friend would have been doing.
Regards
G
thanks gquipster! i'll try that out.
raffy, i've switched the phone over from 'auto' to gsm, that seems to have improved signals and i don't lose txts anymore. when set to auto it keeps trying to find the best 3g connection (i think).
if you don't need the 3g connection then try this:
start > settings > phone > band tab > change network type box from 'auto' to 'gsm'
i hope that helps a bit mate.
still got problem 2 to go then, any takers?

How to use P3600 as HSDPA Modem

I want to setup my P3600 (English ROM) as a 3.5G modem for my PC but not successful yet. The Telco service staff has no idea too and pass me a manual for dopod 838 pro. The mentioned programs are not there, nor in my dopod D810 CD.
I can:
- Activesync using USB
- Activesync using bluetooth
Question:
- Should I use the same HTC modem dialer on my PC for XDA?
- Should I use the Start->Program->Internet Sharing?. It allows me to choose bluetooth or USB to PC but both not working too after connect.
Anyone successfully connect their PC via P3600 using HSDPA, pls share the steps. Many thanks.
Eventually, I figure it out myself.
Forget all the HTC modem dialer or wireless modem program as in Xda.
1. Start->Program->Internet Sharing on WM5.0
2. Select the connection type: USB or BT
3. Select "Connect"
4. Then connect the USB and done.
For BT, it would have instruction for you to start PAN now. done.
Woo, it's much easier than the HTC dialer. But now my problem is VPN problem with my telco.
Thanks very much for reporting this info back, it will come in useful when I get my trinity!

Sadly, because Internet Sharing is actually a NAT server running on your phone, it could prevent you from using 'classic' VPN. You can find more details by googling for 'VPN over NAT'.
for VPN purposes you can always use old good wireless modem mode. it works well.
I don't think it is related to NAT. As long as the VPN ports are opened, it should work. I am using a Wireless router at home and no trouble at all for using VPN under NAT.
Checked with telco. They can enable it for me with extra charge/month. and also the traffic would be charged as expensive GPRS plan. What kind of service!!!
Think twice before subscribing. I used "WonToFee / 1-1-" . The sales that say it can work for VPN may not even know what a TCP port is.
Anyone has use VPN over HSDPA with another telco? e.g. SMOOTH TONE
Hello,
This thread is a bit old, however I think it is related to my problem: I am trying to use Internet Sharing on my P3600 (ROM 1.23.405.2 / Radio ROM 1.38.00.11). Using BT, it works just fine. However, when connected on USB it works fine only for the first time. When I tap "disconnect", the HSDPA connection is stopped, but the status keeps displaying "Connected". There is now way to use Internet Sharing again before a soft reset (Windows XP wouldn't even recognize the P3600 again). Is this a known issue? I have googled a bit, but I haven't found any similar problems.
Thanks!

Hi shefful,
I have had the same problem. I have come across a possible solution while browsing forums. When you need to disconnect press and hold down the red end call button for a few seconds and this disconnects the modem. I haven't tried this yet but it's worth a shot.
regards
Adam

Hi adamwolfe,
Thanks for your help, unfortunatelly this is not the solution to my problem. The GPRS connection ends (according to the icon on top of the screen), but the status keeps displaying "Connected". The application stops responding and can't be stopped from Settings/Memory/Runnning Programs.
Hi shefful,
Yeah, I have the same problem too. Looks like the program freezes in the Connected status. Even tried terminating Internet Sharing with Start/Settings/.../Memory/Running Programs and relaunching Internet Sharing.
Sometimes I get a popup message saying the remote host has terminated the connection before the program hangs. I think this may be the cause of the problem. Which mobile operator are you on?
Rebooting is the only solution so far. Fortunately the Trinity reboots in 20 seconds - one of the fastest in the PPC market I think.
Hi ayhansan,
For other reasons I needed to hard reset my Trinity and the freezing problem has disappeared. I don't know what had caused this problem, I just hope it won't happen again. If I disconnect the USB cable, the status changes to "disconnected" and I can always reconnect.
same problem here
i am connecting to laptop thru USB
after I disconnect UMTS phone syaing still connected
and want kill Internet Sharing
???
thanks

Tomtom 6.2 & gprs/3g disconnect

I'm using Tomtom 6.2 on my T-Mobile MDA Vario II, which incidentally is working much better than 6.0 did (fewer lockups, faster performance), and occasionally have a problem when gprs gets disconnected while tomtom is logged onto the plus service. It produces a baloon message saying something about dialup failed. I then have to press a tiny ok button on screen for tomtom to continue.
I don't know how to make the Tytn ignore that event. I used to get a similar baloon message when gprs/3g connects which I stopped by turning off 'display message on screen' and 'play sound' for the 'connection established/disconnected' events in sounds & notifications.
Is the Tytn trying to use some sort of dial-up fallback when gprs/3g disconnects? If so how do I stop it from trying?
Thanks
Mike
I'm using Tomtom 6.03, not 6.2 as previously posted.
I still get this issue with the baloon message. Does anyone else see this, and is there a solution? It's difficult to press the tiny 'dismiss' button when the car is moving.
Other than turning off Tomtom traffic update, I don't know of any way of preventing Wm5 from displaying the error message when a gprs connection is lost.

Preferred / Default Wifi Network

I have a strange problem with my HTC Trinity's WiFi. It connects to my home network ok, but after stand-by mode, when I press the power on button, it just keeps discovering other WiFi networks but does not connect to my preferred (home) network automatically.
If I click Start / Settings / Connections / WiFi, or go straight to comms manager then select the network and click connect, it connects ok to the network and stays connected until next stand-by, when the problem repeats. It is driving me crackers having to manually select my home wifi network everytime. I've searched the net and these (and other) forums for an answer without any luck.
I have the Orange SPV variant with WM5.
Please help.
88 views so far and not a single comment. Please someone tell me i'm not the only one experiencing this problem, otherwise i'll think i'm going mad!
All I want is for the device to remember the last wifi connection it had before going into standby, and connect to it. Telling me how many of my neighbors have security enabled connections doesn't help me.
On my knees in frustration begging a response.
