Anyone else have their ringtones playback very "choppy"? On my Cingular 8125, it plays for a second then stops, then plays, then stops... Seems to happen all the time no matter if lot of apps running or not. I think all my tingtones are midi files, i prefer just to have the melody of a song rather than a full MP3 playing music/vocals/drums.
Thanks!
bump....
any ideas?
are they original ringtone or did you add them yourself? if you added them yourself and they wouldnt work try using a converter to make them into an mp3 I had several that i couldnt get to work but when i converted them to
mp3 format they worked fine.

I have notice that my standard wma ring tones don't seem to work anymore apart from sounds with a wav extension. I all i have installed lately is microsft voice command 1.5 pocketmusic, mortplayer and also did a full restore from xbackup. when playing mp3 and wav files they all play ok through the media player. but trying to use them as ring tones in the when played in the ring directory , you click on them and nothing happends, when you click on an wav file, that plays ok.
Has anybody else experienced this problem. :?:
I had a similar problem, it was when I changed the wma file association to PocketMusic. Ended up having to do a hard-reset to fix the registry as I hadn't made a backup.
I installed the NoteM program but since it crashed I uninstalled. The problem is that not all my mp3 ringtones are not working anymore.
In any file explorer the mp3s have no icon and when I tried to launch one I had to choose the program (wmp10). Now mp3 are opened with wmp10, I can listen to them, but the they have still the default unknown extension icon , not the wmp10 icon (in any file explorer). Also they are not working as ringtones either
Can anyone help, plz? I don't want to hard reset the device for now
NoteM did that to everybody. Only solution found so far is a hard reset. I tried using a program called pocket tweak to manually associate it with wmp. No luck though. I can associate mp3s with other programs and still have them function as ringtones, so i'm not sure that that is even the problem. It probably changes something in the registry that nobody has figured out yet.
I had the same problem when i install the pocket music player. Anybody has the the same problem with me?

Aparently pocketmusic associates the mp3 extensions to him.
Try to uncheck the mp3 extension in its preferences, it might work then.
yes, but then what's the point of having pocket music installed if the default player for mp3 is still the windows media player.
I don't think its a problem with the associations. I have my mp3s going to mort player with no ringtone problems.

well, it's just necessary for pocket music to be unassociated to work
it's either that or you'll have to find another means for the ringtones
i don't see why you can't just open the mp3s inside pocket music
I can confirm it's an association issue.
I installed pocket player and it took the association from Windows Media Player for mp3's. For 2 days I could not figure out why mp3 ringtones stopped working. Then I changed the association setting for mp3 back and everything works fine.
Unless you use your pocket pc in some strange way i can't see why any music app needs to take over the association. To play mp3's I click on the pocket player icon on my today screen and then choose a playlist or album folder to listen to. I don't click on a single mp3 file.
Anyway try that it should fix your problem and not have any after effects.
Checking again, I agree. mine are still associated with wmp. I was just accessing them with mortplayer.
No Sound after installing Pocket Music
Hello,
I had the same problem when installing Pocket Music (no more MP3 ring tones) so I uninstalled it and linked the MP3 to WMP again but the problem is still here.
My problem is even much more important, my speaker are not working so no sound (playing MP3, phone call ...). My only way to have sound is to use my hand free hearings but the Qtel9100 is not making any more sound and on the phone calls, I can't speak and can't listen if not using hearings ???
PLEASE HELP ...
I tryed to restore my PDA but the problem of micro not working is still here. I can't even talk to someone calling me. I think about doing a hard reset but i don't know how to do it ?
I've searched the forum and found the correct place to select my message alerts however is it possible to select my own mp3 as a sms ringtone. i tried it but with no luck :x
Thanks
Although I've only barely looked into this, I could not get MP3 files working as "notifications" only ringtones. I even tried doing the old WAV-RIFF header on an MP3 file to see whether that worked, nope. In fact, I've tried all sorts of different WAV formats and none of the compressed ones (IMA/MS ADPCM etc) work, only plain old PCW uncompressed WAVs. WMA etc etc I've also tried, no avail, only WAV and MID files will show on the list and only uncompressed WAVs will play.
However, you can use mono instead of stereo and also drop sample rate to 22khz without any major loss of quality (considering the playback device ).
Basically, MIDI and WAV files in the \Windows\ dir of your Wizard are where the files are picked from for the drop down in notifications. If you add a standard MID or WAV to yours they will show in the list next time you access it (no reset required, just close and re-open notifications).
Whether notifications only support MIDI + WAV I've no idea, ultimately I just convert whatever sounds I need to a mono, 22khz, 16bit, PCM WAV, these end up more than small enough to not cause any lag and work perfectly as long as the sampel you're working with isn't too long.
If you only have the MP3 files and have no clue about what I'm saying then you need to do some reading possibly and grab a tool to convert your MP3's back to WAV.
Something like "CDEx" which is free and can recompress your MP3's directly to WAVs (configurable) will do fine and I've tested it at PCM/Uncompressed/22khz and the output WAVs work fine.

nice one mate, will give it a go
thanks Vap, worked through what you said and now have got my desired sms ringtone. thanks once again
Anyone tried Ringo Mobile 1.26?
Not only can you have mp3 sms tones but you can store them on your sd card.
I haven't tried it because I don't know how well it will go along with Phone Profiles which I also use, but I'm tempted to try.
Check it out on Handango
Phone Alarm
Phone Alarm from pocketmax.net works really fine has other great features too.
Kull: Tried it out and PA also plays mp3:s for text messages. Phone Alarm was really in awesome program. It's got a few bugs but it seems to be updated quite often. Thanks for the tip!

I've tried to use PhoneAlarm, but when I've got it installed, it makes my Wi-Fi "unavailable"
Any ideas???

I don't have any issues with the wifi but I know there are some. This will be fixed by v 1.6 due any time now.

Haven't tried WiFi yet... busy getting a fix on the tones... ver 1.55 (beta) works fine with WAV tones.
Convert mp3 into ringtones using CDEx
Vap said:
While using CDEx to convert mp3 files to ringtones it is really important to follow Vap's advice. One will fail if one uses the standard setting for MP3->WAV conversion available in the program.
Here is what worked for my Charmer.
With a CDEx version 1.51 : go to Options, Settings, choose "Encoder" tab, in "Encoder" field choose "Windows MP3 Codec", in "Codec bitrate selection" choose "24 kBit/s, 22 050 Hz, mono" and you should be fine
Thanks Vap

Help me please, recently I just have a problem with my Dopod D810. I only can assign a low quality MIDI (simple low level polyphonic) only as ringtone and the sound quality is pretty bad. When I tried assigning a complex MIDI file as the ringtone, it just won't play when I tested it in Sounds & Notifications settings, and when there's an incoming call it will be changed to Windows Default.wav automatically.
I remember some time ago, all of my MIDI files still can be played nicely as ringtones. Now, all of my MIDI files can only be played nicely with external player like CorePlayer and only some of them can be used as ringtones (with poor sound quality).
Can anyone help me solve this problem? Any registry fix maybe?
Thanks!
I'm also having the same problem as this
"I remember some time ago, all of my MIDI files still can be played nicely as ringtones. Now, all of my MIDI files can only be played nicely with external player like CorePlayer and only some of them can be used as ringtones (with poor sound quality)"
any workarounds ?
I tried installing some cab found somewhere around here but also didnt work.
Working back again after installing this cab..

Call me old school but i got several midi files i enjoy. On my old touch pro2, they play fine but on the S4 default music player they don't sound anywhere as good. First the sound is clipped and a lot of time distorted. Also the instrument sounds are off compared to the media player that comes with WM6.5. Anyone got a solution/suggestion? thanks
I don't know of many players on mobile or desktop that bother to properly support midi anymore. At this point I just listen to them through WMP. They're mostly old NES/PS1 theme songs that I won't let go of. Figured one of these days I should try to find the midis recorded as mp3's to save myself the headache.
Converting them to mp3 is a solution I guess. At least that will keep the sound consistent instead of depending on the particular device/player to interpret the midi. Take more space but I guess will b ok w a 64 gb microsdxc.. just wish midi support better
