Will it support SDHC cards now?
no, sorry.
tried it already, it failed
BA hardware device isn't compatible with SDHC
do we know this for absolute fact? reason I ask is that the hermes didn't recognize hc cards until wm6 and its drivers supported them.. thought this wm6 might have brought along support for the BA as well

From what I understand from the Universal forum, the ability to use SDHC cards is software related, not hardware. Thats why in the latest version of WM6 for the Universal, there is full support for SDHC cards. Someone just has to modify the driver to support them.

has anyone with a SDHC tried this driver:

I installed this cab on on my 2nd BA (this is my test platform), and it doesn't seem to work. It replaces the SD card driver, so that it won't even recognize normal SD cards, or SDIO cards. I think that the SD hardware that this drivers was written for must be different. I'll keep playing with it, but I suspect that this is not the answer.
-C
This driver is for Eten X500 it will not work on BA
So all along i thought it was a hardware problem, i should put a hold on buying one of those 4gb sd and wait for this.
I have a Topram 8GB SDHC, when ever you guys find a driver for the BA just let me know, i'll test it and report back here.
For SDHC to work on BA, the SDHC driver must be extracted from the same processor device. That is what I see on the ETEN SDHC driver that it was applied from another Samsung processor device.
- TKN
Hardware-wise closest device should be Universal which does have working SDHC now. But if the PXA27x is too much different from BA's PXA263 then it will be impossible.
Does This Work With Ba?
I Found This Cab. Does It Work?
where did u find this?
did you find it with any relations to universal or htc devices?
tested it and it didn't work!
no its from asus pda
Do you think maybe Axim50v driver will work? or 'WM 6 Professional Images' from MS? (was just wondering...)
Something to keep in mind about the larger sized cards...
In my experience, the larger the card, the slower the access.
When the angel was designed, I really doubt that anyone knew that cards of the sizes available now would be available, not to mention that the SD driver in our phone is pretty old.
When I first got my 4 gig card, I noted that accessing data from the card was much slower than the system memory. That speed drop all but went away after I partitioned the card into two smaller 'cards'.
That being said, SDHC is the new standard, and having the ability to read and write to these cards, even if it's not any faster, would be a good thing.
Found this cab on Axim forum.

I can test it, i don't have a SDHC card.

You can your ppc into a USD memory stick, however there are considerations :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45411
Only managed to do it via wifi. Just for streaming video and music.
You can't connect external drive to universal, because it does not have USB host functionality.
The only way is to connect over WIFi, there is an ASUS WiFi external drive that works like this.
Of course you can use WiFi, UMTS or even BT to connect to your home machine and access stuff or you can use services like Avvenu or ORB for this...

I don't think Universal has support for High Capacity SD cards.
"Normal" SD standard only supports sizes up to 2Gb. There are some 4Gb cards that work in some machines (but it's not 100%).
The newer cards are SDHC specification, that is a revision of original SD standard, and your machine has to support SDHC in order to use such cards, unfortunatelly I don't think Universal does support this...
Several members of this forum are using 4gb sd cards with Universal
4gb cards work fine with the universal as it can read FAT32.

This has nothing to do with ability to read FAT32 - as far as I know pretty much any WM device reads FAT32. It has to do with the fact that SD specification goes onlt to 2Gb. There are some 4Gb cards that go around the 2Gb limitation, and you can use these cards in SD capable devices - but it's not guaranteed that such card will work.
The new SDHC cards, are bult with new specification, and you have to have a device capable of reading such cards.
I don't know if Universal, or any other current WM device supports this or if a software patch can help.
Basically what you have to be aware is that if you buy HC card, you sould better test it first in your device, to make sure it will work!

Like I said, I'm not sure if SDHC will work in Universal or any other current WM machine - I would definatelly be carefull.
On the other hand I'm also not sure why FAT32 would be the difference between SD and SDHC, as I had most of my cards formatted with FAT32 since at least my iPAQ in 2003...
Anyhow here is a link with announcement about SDHC, that clearly states 2Gb limit of "normal" SD cards, but no details on technical differences of both specifications.
http://www.sdcard.org/events/SDHC_Release06.pdf
my 4gb works flawless...
but thats also thanks to newer rom (since older roms had the camera problem)
im sure when the 1st 8gb SD cards become available someone will try if it works and we will also know...
if it wont work well in 1st attempt, maybe a rom-update could fix it 8)
This has now gone off topic!!
I spend alot of my time in forums just searching in order not to make usless or double posts in regards to what I require!!
There are threads open already in regards to the high capacity SD cards sao why are they not being used?
In regards to the external hd on universal believe this to be case closed unless someone has something to input about it....actually about it!
This forum is great but unfortunatelly already bad for indexing for search purposes....lets not make it worst.
WBR
My 4gb works fine. Only problem is that I still have the original rom and needed less than 2gb free space for it to work, but then that was why I got a bigger card...
Not that I think the above is really that surprising, but I bought a 8gig SDHC card for my camera (which IS SDHC compliant) and tried the card in the Prophet and it did not work/read/attempt to format etc... it did NOTHING with it...
So for those wondering/searching NO -- it doesn't work :-(
sdhc in registry
surprisingly though there is a key in the registry under drivers named sdhc. Maybe it means something else.
Oh good. One less thing to spend my money on
The "sdhc" in Windows Mobile stands for "SDIO Host Controller". So, nope, it's not SDHC we want.
SDHC is in the registry
HKLM->Drivers->BuiltIn->SDHC
I would believe that if the SDHC.dll is updated to SD 2.0, our device would be working with the 8GB SDHC card.
Has M$ updated that driver yet?
[Treo 680 works with 8GB SDHC. When that driver (Palm OS) is copied to Treo 700p, that makes the device work with 8GB too.]
There might be two hurdles sdhc.dll (MS) and omap850_sdhc.dll (HTC/TI). So even if MS updates WM to support SDHC cards, I think the hardware driver must be updated too.
8 gb-> four 2 gb?

How about formating the card in the PC and splitting into four 2 gb partitions? Try that, may be that would work. You can also try few different media cards software to create the right partitions. just google it for the software.
Hope it works for you.
Best Regards,
Partitioning would probably not remedy SDHC issue
It's possible to partition a SDHC card into 2GBx4 or 4GBx2 but it would not change anything because the CSD (card specific data) is different on SDHC cards and the device should be able to interpret it before recognizing the partitions.
The prohet is incompatible with SDHC it can not read its CSD. The CSD is outside user accessible area and this is the device driver that reads it to understand what is the capacity, manufacturer ID and serial number of the card.
I suggest to never buy SDHC cards for prophet and use standard 4GB Transcend or Ridata cards.
Do not buy any 4GB SD card of brands not registered to sdcard.org and avoid fake Sandisk's as well.

I have the same question. I contacted O2 about the mini SDHC issue, but they are very vague with their answer (below - dated 16th July 2007)
"Thank you for contacting O2 Asia Technical Support.
With reference to the query that you have made, the Xda Atom has been tested with memory cards with a capacity of 2GB. By using a memory card with a higher capacity such as what you have mentioned, 4GB, may possibly cause some software conflict. Thus it may compromise the functioning of your device.
We hope this information is useful. Thank you.

I bought O2 Atom Life just a week before. The same day I bought I did logged in to get WM6 upgrade and within 3 hours of purchase my device was on WM6.
When I downloaded the ROM after Registering and entering my IMEI the download page came and there was clearly mentioned that after WM^ upgrade the device will be able to use miniSDHC card but the capacity was not mentioned. BUT IT IS QUIET CLEARLY CONFIRMED THAT WM6 CAN READ miniSDHC CARD WHICH CAN BE ANYTHING ABOVE 2GB.
But its true that the device may start to slowdown, as well as the count of stored files increases to huge number. This is not tested by me but when I used 2gb card on MotoMing with more than 1000 files, the device started slowing down, though it was linux based. And we all know how windows behaves

I guess if it works for Atom, it also works for HP rw 6828 (with "helloWorld" WM6.1 Rom fro this forum)
Do you know if it works with a micro SD 8GB or higher with a mini SD adapter ?
Some people report that 8GB works.
I use a 2GB from "integral" without problem.
I tried with a 4GB micro SD Kingston with mini-SD adapter, and it seemed to work.
Any slowdown when a lot of files are on the SD card ?
Did someone tried this link
I purchased an second hand Atom Life with WM6.0 but it would not read a SDHC 4GB card until the attacehd program was installed. But i soon found that the standard ROM sucks and then loaded a WM6.1 from Medkid and it works like a dream!!....that is everything good and SDHC support for my 4GB card is built in. Otherwise here is the SDHC driver for WM.
I have searched on here and read the various threads on SDHC cards and I am still none the wiser
In the Wizard Accessories forum there is a 5-page thread about users experiences with what does and doesn't work - the problem is there is contradicting information. I thought I was getting somewhere with later units supporting SDHC and earlier ones not (serial numbers), however half way through the thread someone with an older Wizard says they have it working.....
Are there any difinitive answers to whether 4GB SDHC cards work in the Wizard, and if so does it need to be a G4, does it need to be manufactured after a certain date etc?
I have two Wizards (s/n: SZ602EE0xxxx and HT544EExxxx), both currently with 1GB SD cards (Danelec I think?). I am reluctant to buy any 4GB cards unless I know they are going to work.
Thanks
Andy

ok to clarify this, (im going to get flame at least once for this) SDHC cards will only work with devices that have the drivers for SDHC cards. This does not have to do with the hardware but if we cant get the drivers to talk to the hardware there is no support. we have the right hardware but no drivers and if it was a hardware problem then SDHC cards would not be the same as a SD card.
And can someone test that rom (not hopping it works but it might)

count me in
just bought a 2gb sd card for 25€ over here but i need more space ^^
transcend sells the fastest sd mini cards as far as i tested them..
from hardware point of view the wizard device can handle this SDHC cards
as they use the same slot and hardware a usb cardreader has..
its just a matter of drivers or maybe just a registrysetting..
my guess its a combination of a new driver with enhancements for SDHC
and some registrysettings...
knowing windows they probably allready implented it in OS at least in WM6
and it be just a question of finding the right driver with the right settings..
my 4gig sdhc is coming in early next week, then I can test..
keep us informed on how it works please .. if it works that is ^^

• Secure Digital (SD) bus driver that supports SDHC specification 2.00 functionality, such as Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) cards
Support for Extended File Allocation Table (ExFAT) and FAT32 on the x86 BIOS Loader, which provides access beyond 2 gigabytes (GB) of hard disk space.
this is probably the issue with ur 4gb card..
the bios of the wizard wont be able to acces beyond 2gb
but...
now that you have this 4gb card can you do us all a favor ?
here is the thing:
if u have a cardreader that reads the card on the pc just put it in the pc
otherwise put it in the wizard and start wm5torage and connect it as a
non-removable class and write enabled and start the thing and connect it to pc..
when connected goto computer and right click My Computer and choose manage.. in that window goto Disk Managment ..
in there you see this drive which is on the sd card, its shown as a drive
rightclick on the part next to it where it shows the volume on the drive
(it says Healty when correct and the driveletter it got assigned)
choose delete partition
now u have a empty flashdisk
format it in fat16 but.. :-> dont give it a name and set it to 2gb and do not assign a driveletter
now there is a space left of <1gb
format this too fat16 no name, no drive letter, no other stuff but plain format
now if all is correct and these two drives are there you can disconnect it.
unplug the cardreader (with the remove hardwarebutton in systray)
or if u got it in your wizard , shut down pc and take wizard out after it shut down
then release the wm5torage driver and close it and remove card and insert it
back again..
u can check for errors with pocket mechanic professional..
little warning though : do not do this with non branded fake 4gb cards as it
renders it useless probably..( these cards that are 2gb and reformated to hold 4gb)

it seems it is an "out of specs" sd card hence there not sold here,
but maybe we can find a store that has these cards..
one more thought is that it maybe read the SDHC card as well if we
keep its volume space to a max of 2gb..

Greets,
I went to my local Verizon store and picked up an 8GB Sandisk MicroSD Card.
The card is recognized by the phone as having 7.7GB free, but when I plug it into my Belkin 15-in-1 reader (via an adapter) to load it up, the Belkin/Computer doesn't see it.
This may be because its SDHC but I can't find ANYTHING out there on this.
Any ideas?
Anyone have a reader they use which has worked with the 8GB SDCH MicroSD in adapter?
Thanks!
I do not own a SDHC card (yet) but I'm pretty sure that the problem is due to your belkin not supporting SDHC.
See the review at the bottom of this page: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-15-1-Microdrive-MMCmobile/dp/B000CDITCQ
Yeah its that 15 and 1 thingy. I bought a 4GB Micro SD card through amazon last week and it came with this.
http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Micro...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1196630057&sr=1-1
That should be able to read a 8GB sd card also.
No good ... but all is well
The 15-in-1 doesn't even flash when the card is put in (but flashes fine with my old 512MB).
No biggie - I copied the 512MB to the hard drive, and used EXPLORE in ActiveSync to fill the 8GB (which is now down to 5.3 ... tee hee).
Thanks

kms
Hotfix for Windows XP that adds support for SDHC cards that have a capacity of more than 4 GB
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934428
EDIT: It appears MSFT has hidden this hotfix from the public. (Thanks, guys.) Here's some details:
http://www.digitmemo.com/articles/219/adding-sdhc-support-for-windows-with-your-old-sd-card-reader/
EDIT2: And for Windows XP English users: http://thehotfixshare.net/board/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=1079
EDIT3: For whatever reason, this hotfix has no impact on my inability to read the card via my laptop's built-in card reader. I have a Fujitsu Lifebook Tablet. I have yet to look for drivers on the Fujitsu side.
The drive iteself has to be SDHC compliant, you can load WinXP driers all day and it will never read the card because the drive built into your tablet (or the 15-in-1 as mentioned above) is not SDHC compliant. Just like when they came out with SDIO for mobile devices, you had to had a SD drive in your mobile that was SDIO complaint, if not, you can't use SDIO.
Best bet is to buy the SDHC reader on amazon as mentioned above. Also, this is why all new SDHC cards (by Sandisk) are being sold with card readers.
Then why, as previous posters have stated, are non SDHC complaint drives able to be upgraded? AFAIK, the only reason why SDHC would NOT be supported is because it uses different memory calls. I assume that a new driver would be all that's needed. I don't see why it would be a hardware issue.
I've got 4 card readers, 3 bought prior to SDHC and 1 SDHC (that came with the card). The 3 readers (using WinXP) will not read my 6 gig SDHC card, it seems to be doing something, then craps out. The reader that came with the 6gig card, works like a charm everytime and all 4 are using winxp generic drivers for removable drives, nothing special about the drivers. If I put the same card into my Tilt and and access it via file explorer on the PC, I can read/write all day. Also, the same results on Vista PC.
EDIT: Vista results were slightly different, none of the 4 readers would read/write to the SDHC card. hmmm...
I just thought of something that may support the driver theory. If the card reader is embedded into a laptop or pc then maybe the manufactuer actually put hardware that was upgradeable to SDHC by means of a driver. Then of course the driver update makes sense.
Now, if it is a driver that's all that's needed, I would be a happy camper because I could use my favorite reader again and not have to carry 2 readers.
