I used to have it and running fine on my ppc but i uninstalled it because not many of my friends use skype. So now that there's free skype out calling i thought i'd give it a go. I reinstalled it, version 2.0.0.51, and when i attempt to connect it warns me "Skype needs an internet connection to function. Do you want skype to try to connect to the internet through a cellular connection? Warning: Your mobile service provider may charge for an Internet connection. Please contact your provider for pricing."
I click Yes then another warning comes up "Unable to connect to the Internet. Please chec your network settings." When i click No it just doesn't try to log in.
This happens when i'm connected through wifi and activeSync via USB. Any one know whats wrong?

try to launch pocket ie first and when you are already connected in GPRS/Edge then try to connect your skype. . . that works for me but i hope there's more easy step than that. . . without permanently connecting to the GPRS/Edge

Solution
Hi everyone,
I had the same problem. I've installed Skype, and used it once through GPRS/HSDPA. Then, I've used it through Wifi. It still worked, but the next time I tried to connect through GPRS/HSDPA I had the "Unable to connect to the internet" issue.
Here is what I did to fix it:
Connect the phone to the PC with ActiveSync and open the explorer. Make sure Skype is not running. Browse to the directory \Application Data and delete the Skype subdirectory. This folder contains your personal settings. Next, connect again to Wifi, and start Skype. You will now get the initial setup of Skype, and I can connect. (I could not connect without connecting to Wifi for some reason) Now, instead of logging out, I clicked on "Menu" and "Quit". After disabling Wifi, I restarted Skype and tried to connect. this time I again got the message if I wanted to connect through a cellular connection, but this time I could connect after clicking "Yes".
So this worked for me. I don't believe it is a permanent solution however. Let's wait for the next time the program c***s up.
Cheers,
Wim

I updated to the new HTC Cinuglar ROM. Before I updated I used the Wireless Model application with no issues.
Now, I followed the directions on AT&T's website.
Installed ActiveSync (disabled USB connections for Active Sync).
Went to Internet Sharing and selected USB and My ISP.
Connected the USB cable to the Laptop
Then clicked connect. It started to connect to the GPRS system and then after a few seconds returns the message "Remote Party Ended Connection".
I have found no information on any other settings to make Anyone have any idea what is wrong?
Also, it seems weird that in the Programs application "Internet Sharing" is not there, but it is in the Start Menu.
Thanks for your ideas and help.
easy fix for me
I have found that on my laptop, if wifi is turned on, Internet sharing is sporadic in performance. It seems as if ie wants to go to the wifi connection first before it will go to the internet sharing connection. I'm sure someone with networking expertise could tell me why and how to fix, but i just turn off my wifi adaptor.
I use gps pda phone MIO A702
I can only use gprs only for a few minutes, after that the gprs is still connected but it can't upload n download any data
So I disconnect the gprs
but after that I try to reconnect n it can't connect anymore
I always get an error message when trying to use internet on my phone ("cannot connect for unknown reason"). After restarting the device it works fine again.
Can anyone tell me how I can solve this problem??
Regard
PUTRA
go on google ...then type in ur phone model and type what is the apn for this phone....write down the apn s it gives u....then go on ur phone and find connections setting ....change the apn and hopefully that works ok krenisis out

Do you know the application than can force connect and disconnect the gprs?
right i think there is a problem with the internet on my phone. It works fine on 3g but when i connect it to my home network nothing internet related works, also the email function doesnt work, i cant view my emails and i cant send them. When i do try to send them a box pops up that says " Cannot connect with current connection settings. To chnage your connection settings, tap settings".
Anyone know if this is a problem or if i just need to change a few settings.
Thanks
anyone know?
There could be any number of causes but the most likely is that the security encrytion key is not correct or is not being recognised.
What type of security do you have on the router? Do you have any form of MAC address filtering turned on?
Do you have a proxy?
When a PPC is connected via USB to a PC, the internet connection becomes a mysterious adventure. I'm interested to know what exactly I should do to make it work all the time.
