I only use IMAP on PPC - so the mails are stored on the server.
Because!!! - once downloaded an email to ppc you cannot transfer to PC

Has anyone ever tried this out?
I am not sure if you need to install the server application on you workstation or on the actual exhange server. Would like to give it a go, as my company I work for is so slow in implementing any kind of mobile mail acess (we will have WM10 with 8mp camera pocket pcs before my work has mobile mail access).
you could try intellisync Wireless email http://www.intellisync.com/pages/Products/Express/
I have a similar problem with my company being a bit slow on the uptake...this works perectly...really pleased.
You install an application on your desktop and on the device (all very simple) The desktop app syncs your mail etc to a webserver, then the app on the universal connects to the webserver and sync it down onto the device. Very slick. Bear in mind that you have to leave your desktop logged in to your corporate network all the time, which isn't a problem for me as locking the pc doesn't affect the functionality.
I have seen that, but I don't want to use 6 different programs and places to sync. My dad has Intellisync Mobile Suite 6.2 on his Jam and works like a charm, but I can't get my hands on the original installation package.
I can access my work's e-mail via the web through webmail, but I don't know the settings like port numbers etc to get my Jam configured to connect. Is there anyway one can find out these settings without asking IT, as they are still testing it and won't give it to me at this stage.
Surely if you can connect to webmail (exchange), then my Jam should be also be able to connect. Imate Mail also uses webmail and it works on the JAM.

I was just being sarcastic.
I know on 2 apps, but you still have a "middleman" where you data needs to be sync from the pc, then from there to the ppc, back to the web server and again back to the pc. I want to go straight to the exhange server, which I should be able to do if I can get my work's webmail settings.
I see! Have you looked at xmail from o2...similar but your ppc connects directly to the agenct on the desktop...
it does
it works so far, but it is a pain to configure.
i hooked it up to my mail server.
with the admin tool you need to (under win or x) configure a user, device and principal and there you go.
what the manual does not tell you: you have to replace PipelineManager with PipelineManagerGeneric in ds-server/config/Funambol.xml to get it to work with your IMEI, or configure your device with IMEI syncml ..
It smashes my funny german umlauts, though. There is a patch (already included in Funambol) that should configure my internal storage to use utf-8, still its using internal iso-8859-15 (what ever that is for..)
I didn't get it to Unicode until now..
I have not tried to connect it to my mail server.. and i have not tried push email yet..
Stefan
I managed to get exhange activesync to work. But since last night I can't get internet access via GPRS and this morning I can't get VPN access. No nothing wants to work anymore.
Looks like I have to reload my ppc and start from scratch, I have checked all my settings and see nothing wrong.
So I reloaded my Jam this weekend, connected to the work's mail server via GPRS and got my stuff.
Came to work this morning, changed nothing on the pc's settings, plugged in my Jam via USB, pressed sync and it connect without giving me any funny error messages that I got on Friday.
It is weird that it works now with the same setttings and now juts because I reloaded my Jam, it works. :x
help with funambol
trying to get funambol to work on my xda iis 2003se, anyone else got it working with the push email ive set it up how the guide says but i dont get where the log in info goes for it to get your email. anyone willing to do a step by step walk through.
Hi Everyone,
I am having a retard moment. Yesterday I found a document in one of the threads with a Word doc on setting up Direct Push mail. Of course I did not save it because I swore I would remember the thread. Does anyone happen to have the instructions?
I have already updated my phone to the proper ROM.
Thanks
Nevermind. Figured it out.
Wow, so far WM5 makes Blackberry look like a child's toy. Let just hope that M$ will continue support this platform.
Agreed as far as I am concerned push mail with WM5 is the way to go, no need for a BES Server or other application on my desktop to route email.
Is direct push out? Where can I download it? I thought it wouldn't be out until April.

Not offically there is a Qtek TEST Rom on the FTP that has Push, but you must have a 2003 Exchange Server running SP2 to use it.
marka2k, thanks for the info. We are actually upgrading SP2 this Friday. Thanks!
Would you happen to have the full name of the ROM? Thanks.

Wrong ... you may use other servers then Exchange Server 2003. Exchange server has built in push mail. But there exists several other push mail servers that can also do the push. Some of these servers has also client files for WM5.
Einstein
My point (maybe not well said) was in able to use the built in push email of the Qtek TEST ROM you need Exchange 2003 and SP2
Sorry for the confusion
For push mail you need:
1. A mailbox: Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes Server, IMAP or POP3
2. A pushmail server: Any server that's SyncML compatible
3. A client software on your mobile: 3rd party software or Qtek new test ROM
I digged a liitle bit into these issues during the past days. I'm going to put up an test system with push mail soon to my Qtek 9100.
Thanks for the link... I'm downloading it now to give a whirl.
Push Email
FYI- I have been using a "push" email system for several years using my XDA II and my office Lotus notes system by using the Mnotes program. In "enterprise" mode, it can be installed on the server, although I'm using my desktop as the server b/c its the easiest to set up.
Only real problem was finding a compatible VPN and I'm using Movian VPN
Cheers
I am using the qtek rom with 4smartphone.net, and the push system is amazing, believe me it takes about 30 seconds from sending a mail to myself and it appearing on my device via push, its that quick
Push mail
Hi Einstein!
I'm interested to exchange information with you about push mail setup etc. My email is vesku ät email piste com (laita mailia). I have Q9100 too.

VESKU
Here you can preview server and client view of pushmail:

Well, I got 'push' running on the QTek beta ROM. Took a little fidling since not using Exchange Front-End servers and I have SSL and Forms enabled.
See this doc: http://www.petri.co.il/problems_with_forms_based_authentication_and_ssl_in_activesync.htm
Now, I just need to modify the timeouts as recommended by several people. First, I have to find the docs explaing it again.

And service/server that supports push mail ...
I'm a bit confused. My exchange server is now upgraded to SP2 and I installed the test rom. Mail is coming in but not 'realtime'. I am getting emails which can be 5 to 10 minutes after I receive it on my desktop Outlook. Any ideas why the delay?
Thanks.

I have no idea what you mean.
Outlook Mobile (including Outlook) is integrated into WM5, so what else do you want?
i mean the new version which has html mail support ?
Take a look over here.

Especially here:

I'm not sure that this includes Outlook Mobile.
thank you but those files include only office 6.1 and doesn't have new outlook application.
I'm pretty sure that the new outlook only comes with wm6... and even if you can get it elsewhere, you must be connected to exchange 2007 to get HTML email.
I have a JASJAM activesnced with Exchange. Works great, however when email is downloaded to JASJAM from Exchange a copy is not kept on the server for downloading later to laptop.
Using Exchange 2003 and SSL.
The only options I could locate re leaving copies on the server are for POP 3
PLS advise
Matt
Hi,
I've been looking for an email program that I can use with POP3 account so when I am in a wifi zone it downloads the emails to the device / SD card and I can look at them later and respond to them which will send when I'm back in the wifi zone.
I realise I can use gmail but to look at old emails it needs a connection etc and I'm not a big fan of it.
I've tried enhanced email but it only shows what's on the POP 3 server and if I download them to my laptop, the tablet doesn't show them anymore. Again, i know it will mean different emails in the sent folders on the laptop/tablet but I can live with that.
Any ideas anyone ?
Cheers
The stock email program (with the white & yellow symbol) supports pop3. The problem you have descibed is not a problem of your tablet, but of your laptop. Your laptop email program deletes all retreived messages from the pop3 server, so you tablet cannot find them anymore.
With best regards, maris
Thanks for the reply
I want to be able to download the emails from the server onto the tablet and store them on it.
When i download them onto the laptop i want to delete them from the server BUT still have copies of them on the tablet for future reference.
If i download them onto the laptop before doing so on the tablet i obviously wont be able to get them on the tablet.
oK I CLEAN UP my garbled post..
pop 3 email ( standard settings)
will download your mail deleting from server this can be changed in advanced settings
Imap .. will allow you do download your email and sync it with the server . alowing it to sync across devices
exchange mail.. YOU log into a mail server to view download or edit your email ( settings can very depending on server settings)
what i think you need to do is.
set your computer to imap.. this will sync the mail with the server..
set the tablet to pop3 . download what is on the server. (if you have access to your mail server tell it to leave copy on server if you wish )
hope this is understandable and helpful...
good luck
