Wizard won´t recharge!

Hi,
My wizard run out of battery completly yesterday, I brought it home and try to recharge it, but no recharging light will appear.
I left it overnight connected to the mains but to no appeal,
I also removed the battery for a few minutes and then plug again but no luck.
I´m not using the mains provided adaptor but my travelling kit, a proporta mains/usb adaptor and a retractable sync/charge cable with a mini-usb pin cos I´m back home for Xmas and I don´t travel with the mains.
I have read about problems with some chargers from Boxwave, but I have consistently using this charging conbination since October.
Any ideas, should I send it back to expansys to repair, or is there anything else I can try?
Thanks
Elsral
same thing happened to me.. Supposely the phone will not charge from being completely dead without a charger that puts out 1amp. There is another method if you are a little brave... cut up an old car charger and hook it directly to the battery (red cord to + on battery and black to -) Read about it on howardforums and it worked like a champ. I only needed to jump the battery for about 30 seconds before I put it back in the phone and the amber light kicked on.. I was very relieved!!
Same happend to me yesterday. Simply plug the carger in and wait 1 or 2 seconds then switch the power button. After some seconds the carging light should switch on.
The wizard won't charge if it's switched off.
Export800,
you are a megastar,
I put apart a usb adaptor that I had built to charge my gps and I connected cables directly to battery for a minute and Voile,
tnx a million,

But if the battery is totally dead surely the unit wont switch on ? Thus its a catch 22 ??? There is no power to switch on and the battery wont charge totally dead.
Ridiculous if you were caught out away from a charger and ended up having to pull apart a usb lead to get things back to life.
If the battery is so low, that the wizard switches off itself, and you connect the charger, it won't charge, because it's switched off.
Use the power of the charger to turn it on, then charging will beginn (and also the device will boot).

Can anyone else confirm this works as there have been many people having this problem. Simple solution if it works.
Switch off your device completely (hold the Power Button) and try to charge: Nothing happens. Now switch it on - charging begins.
I have noticed that last week, when battery was very low and i know that i would need my wizard in about half an hour. So i switched it off completely, so that it would charge faster and noticed that.
Yesterday when battery was totally dead i remembered that and i switched it on.
Btw, doesn't it damage the battery, if you connect it to 12 V (!!)??

If I come across the problem will certainly be trying your method before I will be ripping into any usb leads
The same thing happened to me this past weekend. We were out camping and my MDA's (wizard) battery went completely dead. I had a USB sync cable for my laptop, but that would not revive the unit. I'm afraid the only way to bring it back to life is with the original OEM charger which has an output of 1 amp. Thanks for the post!
I had the same issue a while back. At first I thought the moto charger I had was dead but then I plugged in a old SMT5600 and it worked fine.
I left it plugged into my computer for a hour or so and finally I heard the "new usb device blip" from the other room and it started to charge. Guess I was lucky.
Same thing happened with my wifes SMT5600. The battery died and she couldn't get it to charge with her moto mini usb charger. I plugged it into my machine and a hour later the charging light came on.
I have heard that the Wizard will not charge from my laptop using a usb cable if it is completely drain. I find this to be NOT TRUE.
I ran out of juice twice last weekend. The thing about the Wizard is that, if it's completely drained, it will get stuck at the boot screen, and go no further.
Take out the battery to turn it off again. Put the battery back in, and then plug in your charger. DO NOT TURN IT BACK ON. It needs all the power it can get. Give it a minute, and you will see your orange charge light come on. Just leave it alone for several hours, and it will charge. This is my experience.
I got it! But, first the story.
None of the above methods helped me. I tried plugging it in to a big truck lighter, a pickup truck, even an ac adapter for my coleman cooler. Nothing!
However, I had a powered Pro-Clip mount that I had as a backup for the one I use. Guess what? THAT worked!
I think the cable makes the difference. Need to find the specs on those puppies. LOL
Thanks for the help.

Internal battery is very low!!! Need Help

Hi,
My wizard main battery (wiza16) was very low and the wizard stop with a message “The internal battery is very low”. After coming back home I have tried to charge but it is not taking charge and didn’t turn on anymore. I recently bought a new battery (wiza16, 3.7 VDC, 1250 mAH) thinking that it will work again but still the same problem, wizard is not taking charge or turn on.
Can anyone help me?? What can I do to start my wizard? Do I need to change the tiny little battery (which is inside the wizard)? Kindly help me.
Wizard service manual
Hi,
See if when you connect the power plug the led turns red, if yes....
If Charge light is red when plug in AC adapter, it means the main battery is not charge enough and can’t power on,
You just need to continue charge unit the light become Amber
If not, i think you have a problem.
Check if charger its working and if its pluged.

Wizard Battery discharge completely
Hi,
Thanks for quick reply. there is no light when i connect my wizard with PC. I don't have the AC charger, I have lost that for long and was using my PC usb to charge. trying to get one AC charger.
There was no problem with my wizard, just can't turn on after it's battery discharge completely. Even the new battery couldn't turn that on.
You'll need the original charger if the battery has complelty discharged as it will only charge from the computer if the phone is powered on.
This happened to me before.
There is a trick to giving the battery a quick charge which will give it enough juice to boot the phone up and allow it to charge from usb. its not recommended but works.
You will need a spare usb cable, cut one end of, strip the wires back and connect the red wire to + and the black to - on the battery, only do it for a short period, about 30 seconds while conneted to your computer.
You may need to give it a few 30 second bursts to give it enough juice.
Pop the battery back into the phone and switch it on while pugged into the PC
Took me a few attempts to get enough charge in the battery for it to boot up.
Wizard battery
You can also use a 9V battery to jumpstart your battery. But then you have to be more careful. I connected the 9v battery to my Wizard battery for about 15 seconds, then tried to start up my device. If not successful I started again with 15 seconds jumpstart..
But you can find more information here in the forum: just search for jumpstart or something similar....

Wizard Battery discharge completely
Thank you all for information. 9V battery method didn't work for me. Looking for AC charger online and get a link (http://www2.dustin.se/pd_5010073700.aspx). Do you think this is the right one? If yes, then I can order.
yea that's the right one but if you have a friend with a ppc or maybe a razor you can use there charger most ac adapters are starting to use mini usb just a way of saving some money even though having an ac adapter is good
could also try and get one of those usb plugs that you can plug up to a wall and plug in a usb cable into the slot
but don't take my word for this wit hmy wizard i haven't had it shut all the way day
if anybody can verify this would work
AC charger not also working
I have got the AC charger yesterday. When Connect the Ac charger first time the red light on my wizard showed for just half second then dissappear. Still let that connected for whole night but no response.
Thank you all for help.
@Keland44, most Razr chargers dont work, they MUST be at least 850mA in order for the Wizard's battery to receive anything. The older Razr chargers are sometimes as low as 350mA, but the never ones are as high as 1.2A, so you need to read the label on the charger itself to be sure.

Yup that is about right,
If the battery is complelty dead, then you need to original charger.
If you have got the right charger and you get a red light and it goes off. your phone might have a problem.
This happened to my last wizard after stupidly trying to dry out the screen after getting it wet which stopped the touchscreen working (i was drying it out while the phone was still on) well my wizard crashed.
Took ages to get it back on but it was very unreliable then one day, it wouldnt go on and charger done nothing. Unpluging and pluging the charger in several times got a red light on.
Sometimes i could get it to turn on, the charger would charge for about 5 minutes then the phone would die soon after.
Your phone might possibly be bricked.

My MDA will not charge

Well, this is the first time i have made a thread. I bought an HTC Wizard about 2 weeks ago, i got it from a guy on ebay. The charger that came with it worked great, no problems at all, just happy to have my pocket pc back. the other day i ran in to a problem i was stuck with a dead mda and no charger. I went to the store and bought an iGo charger. i figured since my batt. was completly dead i would have to let it sit on the charger for a while. It charger for 24 hours and nothing, no indicator light not bootloader no power up. i finally got the charger that came with the phone. and it still will not charge. i tested both the chargers and the fuction properly with other phone so that rules that out. i need help i am now out of a phone. can some one HELP ME!!!
Try to charge the battery with other phone, you might need to 'Jump Start' the battery.
A completely discharged battery will only get charged with a wall charger capable of 1 amp out put or jump start the battery and it'll start to charge, but if the battery is gonner and faulty,it won't charge at all, you'll have to get a new one.
I think I'm having the same problem as the OP. My phone ran dead the other day in the middle of a call. I tried to restart it so I could send a text to the person I was on the phone with to let them know that I would call back when I charged my phone. It stuck on the splash screen and I'm pretty sure that it drained the battery completely. Now, it won't charge and the indicator doesn't come on.
Can you tell me more about this "jump start" that you speak of? More specifically, can you explain how to do it and what is needed?
What you need to do is get ahold of a standard 9-voly batter and 2 wires. On your Wizards battery, locate the positive(+) and negative(-) terminals, and hole one end of each wire there, then on the 9-volt, hold the corresponding wire to said terminal(pos to pos, neg to neg) and hold it there for approximantely 30 seconds. After waiting for 30 seconds, put the battery back in the Wizard and connect it to a wall charger that outputs 1AMP or higher and it should charge.
Same thing happened to me -let the battery get too low and then couldn't charge it with the phone. I bought a desktop charger for wizard battery from ebay and a spare battery. The performancde from the battery is much better from the desktop than it is when charged in the phone. For the sake of £3 it's worth a shot.

Question about charging the phone

Hi there! I just bought a Cingular 8525 Unlocked phone and absolutely love it! After having it for two weeks, so far i have upgraded to the 2600mah extended battery and i am currently using PDACorner v20 rom (nonRBSN)
Now to my question, is it bad for the phone i keep plugging it in randomly throughout the day on the charger or USB? I upload files sometimes and i just leave the phone plugged in the computer or I would sometimes charge the phone when it hits 70% and unplug when done and would charge again before going to bed.
Also, is it ok if i leave the phone on the charger even if the light turns green? sometimes charging would be done around times when im knocked out....and usually dont unplug it until i have to leave.
Thanks for your help/replies.

Well, I don't think that's such an easy question to answer. There have been the following reports:
1
Attempting to charge the battery with either PC USB or non approved charger (500mA) if the phone has less than 10% charge can lock up the charging circuit and result in a Red no charge LED showing.
2
Leaving the phone on charge overnight for example can result in the curious situation of having a flat battery and RED LED showing in the morning.
3
In general problems can result if 500mA 5v chargers are used instead of the 1000mA official charger - particularly if they are used when phone charge is low.
Now despite all the above, I regularly charge overnight without problems - and clearly that means the green LED is on for most of the night. I frequently top up the phone with the PC USB and do sometimes use a non standard charger. I have only ever had the RLOD red light of death once and was able to kick start it eventually.
I generally do not let the phone fall below 20% - but even when it does I have had no problems.
Mike
Thanks for the reply. I never let the phone fall below 40% so i should be ok on that. But when i bought the extended battery it came with a wall charger but its 500mA.....im guessing its ok for the battery since it was packaged with it.
But i might look into buying a charger from ATT. Leaving it charged till i wake up should be ok then....thanks!

Severe charging issue!!

So I started charging my phone earlier and it took forever, and the phone got very hot, but I didn't think more of it and unplugged it. Then it dropped under 15% and I decided to charge it again. It's been in the charger for 30 minutes and it's only gone from 9% to 10%...
Am I the only one with this problem? =S
Edit: It still gets very warm.
Turn it off and on?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I was sort of hoping it went without saying that I had done that.
I've also tried:
Charging it through my PC
Charging it through the wall charger
Both give the same result as listed in the first post. Also tried removing everything (battery, simcard, mem.card) and reinserting it.
Still it gets very warm and charges almost nothing! =S
Are you using a different USB cable or charger than the one provided?
I have tried several different USB > Micro cables and not all of them have worked properly.
My old BB wall charger works fine, as does my old Motorola one (both plug a USB cable into), but wife's iPhone one does not.
I really don't think that's the problem... I finally got it up to 100% with the wall charger, but when I restarted it after having reinserted the MicroSD, it had dropped 13%. In a few seconds, does not make any sense =S
Night time here now though, so gonna see how much it loses in just standby, if it's a lot I'll try reinstalling the update. But this seems to be an isolated issue?
I noticed that charging it with the wall charger is at least 3 times faster.
Also, you're right, the phone can get really hot while charging and at some point it even stops charging when it's too hot , it happens easier when charging using a computer since the charge takes more time, the only thing that helped in my case was to remove the battery cover and blow some air on the battery
The problem sin't that it charges SLOWER, it charges about the same for both, currently. The problem is that it hardly charges at all...
Also, it was at 100%, then dropped to 87% just with me turning it off, reinserting the memory card and turning it on again.
I went to bed at 2am last night, then it had 87% battery. When I woke up at 9am, it was dead.
your battery is faulty
email SE telling them your battery wont charge but that your friends/spare/new battery does charge when in your phone (to rule out the usb fault that some x10's had) and then they should send you one out.
