htc p4350 screen is brighter than the Hermes 8525? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

i currently have both the tmobile wing & att 8525, i did a side by side comparison, the tmobile wing's lcd screen is brighter, more vibrant, and seems like it has a better color resolution. the wings lcd is 2-4 times brighter than the 8525 and i have both the backlight settings to max. On paper the lcd/color specs are the same, is there something wrong with my 8525?

if the lcd of the herald has the same connections as the hermes, do you think if i swap it out, the hermes would have that same brightness?

Yes, the above link is the latest version. I suggest trying it before swapping out any LCDs etc.

HI VJ I have a question about LumosIII. It seems that III is the only one that works on the Tytn? If so does it have the switches capabilities built in? Like
-off
-on.
I can't seem to get the switches to work and I don't see a reference to III on your site. Thanks! Great programs BTW. IMHO you are definitely top 10 pocket pc freeware provider/programmer of all time.

Lol. No, no switches, it just toggles.
Load it up, bright.
Load it again, dark.
If you need switches, let me know, but hopefully I'll be purchasing a new phone shortly (I'm thinking Touch), and will then see if I can write a more generic version. Version III was for the Hermes. Version II was for various earlier devices. Version III never got on my website for some reason, I think I thought it was too tiny to bother about!

Can you pleeeeease make switches. I have a mortscript that will turn it off before it starts the camera. Currently if it's off it turns it on instead of off again... Then the cam won't start. Thanks if you don't mind I would greatly appreciate it with a donation for sure? Heck I think I'm going to donate anyway.
IMO version III is the most important because it works on the phone that needs it the most. I think a lot of Tytn users know about it. The wizard screen was superbright. The Tytn not so(without VJLumosIII!).

I'll try to add switches.
I hate using my Hermes without VJLumos. I've been using it for a year now with no adverse side effects, so I wonder why HTC never made the extra bright screen default.

Thank you Thank you.
Yeah I use VJLumos on it all the time. It's a must. Especially coming from a Wizard. Or any other PPC for that matter. I think the switches will come in handy with future Tytn users to come. Since it is such a key piece of software for that device.

Hi everyone,
It seems to me that my QTEK 9100 's screen is a lot more bright than my M3100.
And i could'nt find anything about someone mentioning that in any forum (xda or other).
Has anyone noticed that ? Il find it annoying realy.

Thanks for your works. As soon (and if) you fix the problem with having to soft reset before using the camera, you will get a donation, for sure.
Such things do make my life easier and avoid frustation from having a good device with stupide restrictions from supplier.

Calculator

Can anyone recommend a good calculator for the HD? I need one that can do more than just add, subtract, multily and divide. One that can graph equations, do integration, trig functions etc.
Thanks,

This is my beloved calculator. I hope you're wrong here. But I did'nt see that on the wiki but I'll test that the moment my unit arrive.
If you've already got your unit, why not go ahead to test and update the wiki. Cheers.
HiCalc is my favorite one, but it occupies like 1/4 of the screen on my HD, so it's unuseable.

You're right. In the case of HiCalc they use the same cab both type of devices.
I hope that they come up with a version for HD soon.
I would be happy with a calculator that just fits the whole screen and is not as terribly ugly as the WM one.

Def the HD2. Better processor, no stylus needed and harder screen, not to mention HUGE SCREEN and just downright sexy.

what do you mean by harder screen? is the touch sensitivity better than the tp2?
TP2 is resistive, meaning that you have to apply pressure on the screen. The HD2 is capacitive which means that it responds to heat/infrared signatures, so you don't have to press on the screen to use it.
Since it doesn't require pressure, the screen can be made of harder material (like glass). The HD2's screen is fairly thick and makes the entire phone seem stiffer with a higher-quality build.
I prefer the HD2 over the TP2. I was in your very same position. The only thing I sacrificed was a hardware keyboard, but the HD2's screen size makes typing fairly easy once you get used to it.

hawc1506, how is it turning out for you right now? is it running smoothly or are you experiencing problems?
I have both at home and I choose HD2. But only because of screen size – I often watch movies in subway.
TP2:
HW keyboard is much more faster to write, don’t have to check for misspelled words.
Dual microphone (noise background canceling)
Stereo speakers
Can record calls as mp3
Resistive screen – big plus (there is no way how to comfortably use windows without stylus)
HD2
Big screen
No noise canceling option
You have to always check for misspelled words
Cant record calls !!
Very poor speaker !
Capacitive screen – very easy to break, no stylus possible – im missing stylus all the time
Faster processor and bigger RAM/ROM - big plus

makind, there is a tweak that enables this on the HD2, but is wma only. If that's adequate for you, I'll see if I can dig it up (I think it was a manual regedit, not a cab)
I loved my TP2, I've been using WM for over 7 years now and the HD2 is the first device I have had with a capacitive screen. I loved using a stylus. After getting the HD2 I tried a the capacitive stylus from Pogo. I eventually stopped using it and I've gotten really used to just using my finger especially with Swype. I'm loving it, HD2 all the way.Its faster, more memory, the screen is gorgeous and the camera is amazing!! Flash too which the TP2 doesn't have.

You know, it was a little buggy for the first couple days but then once it got going it was smooth as a Bentley.
...until I installed the T-mobile update.
But if you go with a custom ROM, you will likely have no trouble at all. I highly recommend the phone.

I don't think there is any way to record calls with the HD2. You can record your voice, and recording programs may pick up the other person softly if you have the speaker loud enough.... but it's only picking up the sound from the speaker. It doesn't record calls like other phones can.

have you flashed yiour phone with a custom rom?
Great thread, since I am having the same issue. One of my main concerns is whether the HD2 will work well with some of my old apps. The main ones I want to use are Listpro, Pocket Informant, and Phatnotes. I assume that PI shouldn't be an issue without a stylus, but how about the other ones. Would appreciate your thoughts.

No, I had the Tmous stock rom 2.10.1 and then I upgraded to 2.13. The upgrade screwed up my screen sensitivity so bad, I downgraded back to the stock 2.10.0 (no stock bootloader on 2.10.1).
So I've made "unofficial" rom flashes, but I haven't used a custom ROM yet. I don't even have HSPL.

i traded my TP2 for the HD2 and i kinda regret it because my HD2 crashes a lot and my TP2 never did that but who knows it might get better soon
If you can live without a keyboard, then hd2 all the way. MUCH faster. Installs apps a lot quicker. Great screen. So used to using a stylus so i really miss that but i am getting used to not using it. If your cool with no keyboard, by all means.. get the HD2! You won't regret it!

Removing 65k color limit?

Now that Android can be installed from NAND, I had assumed that the problem with the screen only displaying 65k colors would be fixed. It still isn't, is there a known way to fix it or any progress being made to fix it? At the very least, is it known what the issue is? I thought it was a problem with WM utilizing only 65k of the screen and that carried over to android when it was run over WM, but now that WM is eliminated that's obviously not it. Anyone know?

Seriously, it's the only thing holding me back from using this phone full-time. You can see a great example of it in the widgets.
I agree, widgets look terrible, specifically news and weather widgets (genie.apk), power control, etc (anything with the black gradient background).
However, they only look bad on some launchers (on launcher pro, for example, with high quality scrolling turned on, widgets look exactly how they are meant to look - somehow launcher pro manages to 'smooth' the gradient).
I think this should be made a priority as the banding is very visible in many apps, and especially when watching videos on the device. It is very noticeable in the new gingerbread ROMs, which make use of more subtle gradients (take the notifications bar, the phone application for example) - fixing this issue would bring android on the HD2 up to a whole new level!
I'm going to do some digging and see what I can find...
i dont think we can improve the screen to much higher than what is meant to be.if you have a normal plasma tv.you cant watch 3d movies from it,because it was not intended for 3d.same thing with the hd2 screen.

But isnt that always MS's way of looking at things, being conservative opposed to using the capabilities? MS has never used anything to its fullest capacity, they are always on the reserved side so to them less means better compatibility and less issues. I wouldnt go based on MS's articles or opinions, I think the best to answer the screen capability would be HTC - the maker.
But thats just my opinion.
For me, some sense builds look more colorful than others do.
is it possible that these builds make use of the displays capability?
Cause when I use Froyo everything seems to be paler and less colorful.
And its not just the wallpaper..
This is a concern of mine aswell, I hope it really is not a hardware limitation
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
MS said that LEO suqqort 262k.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I thought that limitation was just because that's all WM6.5 could handle. I'd be surprised if the screen couldn't handle 16.7million colours. It's just a standard TFT device after all.
Perhaps it comes down to drivers?

Got a new SGS2 and noticed a few things

Hi guys,
I just sold my "old" SGS2 which I bought on the second or third week of launch of the international version and got a new one. Here are some of the things that I've noticed:
1. Red spot on white background picture while using the camera is GONE. I thought this was a software problem before but I guess it must have been hardware related. Flashed two different roms now including the stock one and still no red spot.
2. Yellow stain on the lower portion of the notification bar is gone. Color is even with no hint of the yellow stain that plagued earlier versions of the unit.
3. Color of the screen is noticeably darker. You wont be able to notice this most of the time but on apps like dialer one wherein the default background color is gray, you can really see a huge difference. Darker but not less brighter, I don't know how to describe it but you can really tell the difference.
4. Capacitive button lights are much dimmer. I tried them on different kernels and roms and they're still dimmer. Not a dealbreaker though.
Overall I am very pleased that Samsung quietly addressed these manufacturing issues
*edit* actually I'm not sure if I was just lucky or they really fixed it
Concerning the screen, you just got lucky. The yellow tint is still here on new batches. One thing I noticed however, is that the two new units I used, had no processor usage interference when headphones were used. Did they add proper shielding or was I lucky as well?
Actually I think I spoke a little too soon. Apparently the white's and the grays are my screen are a lil darker than usual and a little to the shade of purple. Some people have it as well. My white's are not as white as before but when i turn the brightness up it turns into a pretty good shade of white. But my grays are definitely more purple.
Oh well
Every sgs2 is unique, i like to think (so i don't get annoyed by it) that every sgs2 is a piece of hand-made craftsmanship.
Noticed the darker colours on my friends new SGS2 also. .
