Hi All
Have searched to see if this has been covered before ! but a bit of help for a newbie please
Is it possible to remove & replace the sim card without the unit losing all data etc ??
Only had the XDA11 for a couple of weeks,,all set up ok ?? with tom-tom etc, The other day had to remove the sim card for the day, so disconnected the battery for under 30 sec's, to remove the card, and replaced later that day, also within 30 sec etc, on powering up again,
all data was lost and the unit started to reload as a new unit again, is this correct,
Hope this makes sense
Best Regards TJ
I have a number of devices that I swap sims with regularly and have no problems as you describe.
Changing the SIM shouldn't cause it to hard reset only soft reset.
I have had a device that had the main battery flat but still kept its settings over a weekend on the backup battery.
Have you checked the level of the backup battery in the Power screen to see if there is any charge in it?
Thanks tyfy
Yep checked the batt levels before taking the card out, about 80% and 100 on backup etc,, but as you say, it did a hard start
Regards TJ
I can confirm the hard reset thing when I swapped SIM cards. Annoying at the time, but provided an impulse to update to 'latest' ROM. Haven't removed the SIM since, for fear of the same thing happening. If I could ever get home PC, work PC and home iMac properly synched and backed up, I'd remove it again to see what happens. Occured to me at the time that T-Mobile might have been up to some software tricks, then the paranoia left as suddenly as it arrived
Thanks Guys
I need to remove the sim card, so to fit the inbuilt carphone, O2 do not do 2 cards on the same number as yet !!
So !! is it possible to swap them around without having to do a hard start every time ??

Hi cruisin-thru
Thanks for the link, not quite what i am looking for,
I need 2 cards ?? with the same number, or a way of moving the card from the XDA to the car and back again without doing a hard start every time ???
Regards TJ
Did a full back up to my SD last night, then checked the battery levels, = all OK, pull the battery and SIM, counted to 42 reinserted the SIM, battery and catch for battery, and everything normal. ALL data intact.
If you have a sim that is a few years old it is possible to clone it, the modern sims however will not work as the protection has yet to be cracked, if you do search on sim clone in google you will get lots of info. If you do manage to clone your sim make sure that only one phone is switched at at any one time or you may find that the security system on your network will zap the sim if it sees 2 identical numbers logged on.
Hi Guys
Thanks for the help,, been away over the weekend,
Took the card out Fri night, (took less the 20 secs) to put into the car system,,,,guess what, another hard start,, now sat here reloading all the stuff again (ie Tomtom ) etc
Had about 80% batt power with 100% backup,, i must be doing something wrong somewhere, can not belive this happens every time the card is removed !!
Regards TJ
Are you turning the PHONE off as well as the PDA? ie: set to flight mode before you turn it off. Maybe that's the problem?
Hi All
I think GaZ,s suggestion might have cracked it !!
Remove the tom tom chip, did a back up to storage card, and put the phone into flight mode, then removed the sim card within about 15 secs,
all OK !!,, have tried a couple of time and so far all ok
Many thanks to you all for the help, appreciated
Regards Tim
I just received my S100 and have played with it for a few days.
But today I had some problems with my bluetooth connection which i could not turn off so I removed the battery from the back to reset it. After i put it back i was presented with the installation instuction like when i turned it on the first time. In settings > battery it says that both are 100% full so my backup battery should take over or am i incorrect? Is this a hardware failure or im doing something wrong? Im glad i alraedy synced it with outlook so i could restore most of my data which was on the device.
Hope somebody can help me here.

i think the backup batt runs for only a few minutes... but as you say both are topped of at 100% can you replicate this problem? If not it may have been a one time thing.
Yes i could reproduce it 3 times. I only took out the battery for a minute or so and then put it back again. When I put the battery back and I check the power again in settings it still says 2x100%. If this is not normal behavior I think I will have to return it for exchange or repair.
-nrg
yes this is not normal. well goodluck hope you get a better unit
Thx!
I hope I get a new one although i highly doubt it....

Same thing happend to me as well !!
I dropped my Qtek S100 on the floor and the main battery popped out. I inserted it again (it was out just for 30-40 seconds) and a hard reset occured!
Everything lost and still my backup battery was 100% charged.
Peter
maybe the drop had more to do with the hard reset than the battery popping off?
Hard Reset after removing battery for 10 secs
OMG.. This is happening to me too!.... has anyone found a solution for this?
im using 1.11WWE + Big Storage.
Can any brave mini users try removing their battery and reinserting it?.. just to check if you have the same problems.. i have searched the web and have found that many people are having this problem..
you might just want to check if you have this problem because you will never know when you might drop your mini and suddenly your data is lost!.. just like me.. argggg

I have tried this solution.. i turned on flight mode.. waited about 3 minutes.. remove the battery, turned back on and the mini still hard resets thank god for sprite backup tho..
No need to test this as this is standard behavior for all pocket pcs (well wm5.0 says it will solve this with persistent storage) if you remove the battery and the backup battery is drained (i think the backup lasts a few minutes only)... YOUR DEVICE WILL HARD RESET. Again this is the same with all Pocket PCs may it be Phone Ed or Regular PPC. Power Drain (Main/Backup Batt) = Hard Reset. So keep your device juiced up always, and please do regular backups.
@benny: you said: "if you remove the battery and the backup battery is drained (i think the backup lasts a few minutes only)... YOUR DEVICE WILL HARD RESET"
but in my and Nutdhanai's case, both main n backup baterry ARE 100%. and we just take out the battery for 10secs (just to try) !!! anybody else can give explanation for our problem?? could it be the backup battery dead???
i made little experience last night. i let the MAIN battery till ONE (1) %, but BACKUP STILL 100%. then i went sleep for about 8 hours. in the morning, i CAN NOT turn my mini at all... pressed power and nothing. then i plug it to my desktop via usb. and it come suddently, without any hard reset!! i immediately straight away check the battery status, its said : MAIN: 0% (charging) and BACKUP: 100% !!!! how coudl it charged my backup battery back to 100% in only 2 seconds after i plug the usb cable?? its very strange!
what will happen normally when the main battery going down till 0% ?? i should use the backup batt, right?? please help us (me n nutdhannai). .
thanks all!!!
hard resets
Hi Guys I went through a phase of hard resets when changing the battery. I found out it was because I hadn't fully moved the locking tab into place. I don't know if this would be the case with your machine. good luck!
@ chop:
no, had try this long time ago, still got hard reset.. unlucky, i think we dont have someone who actually work as XDA technician in this forum to confirm this kind of problem

Hi guys!
I've no Magican, but an HTC Himalaia (QTEK2020). But i've got the same problem at my device, too.
Seemed to be an driver-bug?
I'm using Windows Mobile 2003 - ROM 1.72 - official edition (non "beta").
I know, that my problem is here in the false forum, but i want to give our these note, so that anybody could be found the solve in a softwaresoultion?
Sorry for my worst english!
Greetings from Germany,
Christopher
No more hard resets for me !
Hi guys,
FYI - my magician is an O2 Mini version.
When I had hard reset problems.. I was running QTEK 1.11 WWE and QTEK 1.12 WWE ROM, both which cause my magician to hard reset when I remove my battery.
Today I was going to send my magician to the service center so I decided to flash my magician with O2 ROM, I flashed my magician with O2 1.11 WWE ROM then I allow the ext rom to install all the applications that it was suppose to (I didnot soft reset to avoid ext rom installation)
Then i figured I should test whether the magician still hard resets or not... I took the battery out and then put it back in... turned it on.. expecting hard reset.. BUT NO!! my magician didNOT hard reset!!! OMG.. I am so happy..
so.. to summarise.. I am not too sure whether the QTEK ROMs are the cause for my magician hard reset or not.. because my girlfriends magician is also an O2 Mini and its running iMate or QTEK 1.11 WWE with Big Storage (definately not O2 ROM) and she doesnot get the hard reset problem.. BUT I can confirm that reflashing my O2 magician to O2 ROM solved my hard reset problem however, I cannot guarantee that this solution will work with other magicians but it might be worth a try..
So anyone having hard reset problems when battery is removed should try flashing their magician to the ROMs provided by your Make.. ie.. iMate Jam should flash with iMate ROM, O2 Mini should flash with O2 ROMs etc...ALSO you should let the extended rom install what ever applications it needs ok.
Let us know how you get on..
I will now try to upgrade my O2 Mini to JAM 1.12 WWE ROM and MKS Big Storage and see whether I will get hard reset again.
I hope someone can help here. On my HTC Jade with the latest German ROM version, the time is suddenly "running", e.g. is moving forward by approx. 10 Minutes within 1 houre. No active sync nor any other connection to the PC is done. I can adjust the time, say at 08:00 PM, and after about 15 minutes Jade is already again 5 - 10 minutes ahead. What's wrong here? Please help as it is my working tool.
Thanks a lot.
Patrick
hi, try to take a Hardreset. It could help you.
If hard reset doesn't work, Obviously something is wrong with your clock chip inside, which is embedded in the motherboard. Better send it bak to the supplier.
I would give it a last try to do the latest update again. Maybe something went wrong last time so hard reset just reproduces the error again... Worth a try! Viel Glück!
Ok so I was downloading Resco Explorer on my HD2 .. the progress bar reached 60 % i guess when suddenly my phone rebooted . I thought it would have had some failure and will work fine again , but my phone started rebooting every time it goes on again ! So i did a master reset by pressing the volume up and down keys with the on button .. ( my sim card and sd card in the handset ) While Windows was configuring for my " first phone use " , it rebooted again ! So I removed my sd card and sim card and waited .. I reached my Home Screen .. then i wait for a while ( let's say 10 minutes ) and you've guessed it .. it rebooted ! So please can someone help me ? I've done no update to the software and no rom upgrade .. Nothing.
so its totally untouched? then the warranty isn't void =)
so i would go to the store you bought it and send it back to htc...

Oh ok ... but have you ever encountered this kind of problem ?
and btw , what are some good upgrades i can do to my phone ?
Thank You
Pull the battery and leave it out of the phone for a good 5 minutes and try booting it up again.
might be worth checking the battery contacts too.....
the phone is still one month old ...
i removed the battery for a hefty 12 hours and it worked again
Thank you

how did you survive without it for 12 hours???
your symptoms are similar to overheating, should it happen again, I'd suggest installing BattClock (it can monitor batery temperature) to check whether the self-reset happens at the same conditions,
since i got my phone 4 month ago i been having a problem with it ,even i did the upgrade sometime it stuck on the orange window screen ,so i have to take the battery out and wait for a 5 minute ,then everything will work for a while ,is there any solution? .
please
thank you in advance

Have you tried other steps besides the battery removal? (By the way, the reset button is just below and to the left of the battery. It is a small yellow or red dot. Though removing the battery may be faster, you risk damaging the contacts each time you do so.)
You might try doing a hard reset. This is the one that wipes your phone's memory and will delete everything you've added including contacts and applications. To get your contacts back in a hurry, sync with Gmail before your hard reset and again after. I keep all of my cabs in a folder on my microSD card for getting my apps back faster after a flash.
If the issue continues and you want to keep you phone stock (i.e. under warranty), you should contact T-Mobile and ask for assistance. They will suggest a hard reset and then probably just a hardware warranty exchange.
