hi, recently after a rom change i am unable to call numbers starting with +1 but when i try to edit them and remove the +1 and try the call it works.. what could be wrong.. i tired to change the radio version and also played different rom s available but nothing seem to solve this issue... can some one help me with this pleasee
I'm not sure if this is the answer...but who is your carrier? Cingular/ATT has a International Dialing addon to your plan. Is it possible that this got removed somehow? If that isn't added you can't call Internationally..
I dunno though..just a guess.
I'm running Black Satin and +1...etc works fine for me.
my provider is rogers, toronto and i read that many others in the forum are not having any problem with rogers.. so i guess it must be my handset
... and How do You change the + International Dialing Code?
I have no troubles using the + dialing code, however, I travel constantly and find that many countries (Thailand, Australia, etc..) have competing companies for international dialing. Is there a way to change what the "+" means? Example: In Thailand the use of the "+" preceding the country code automatically replaces it with "001" which is the high priced CAT service. If I go in and change the "+" to "009" I save heaps of money on each call. How can I change this temporarily so when I leave here, I don't have to go back and once again replace the 009 with + ??? Any Ideas? Thanks!
well if ur with rogers you have no need to dail +1
if its long distance it will auto dail for you
mazdaspeed.. the problem is not that i want to use the +1 but many of my saved contacts have +1 before their no.
the best eg is when i save a new number from an incoming call it will have +1 before the no. and it saves like that..so the next time i save a no. i will have to edit it..
i found 1 more thig more interesting.... this +1 issue is only with calls that i make to local phones i mean in toronto and not to calls to usa
well i just tested on my phone and it works fine im using Shaps 3.54b

Basically I am looking for some software which, on receipt of an SMS will initiate an outbound call to a number in the contact list on the phone.
something along the lines of :-
SMS received from 1-555-5555 containing the word CALLBACK and a password.
Phone then dials 1-555-4444 or any specific contact as defined in its config
it doesn't have to use the contact list but must be triggerable remotely.
Target device is a HTC Hermes. and possibly a StarTrk
The program doesn't need to be stealthy, it's to initiate the call with full permission from the owner but without intervention.
Partly it's for my grandfather, if I give him a Startrk then I want to be able to activate a call remotely if I get notified that he has triggered his medicalert system, so I can try to see if he is ok without him having to answer a call.
I googled, and found nothing, I'm hoping someone here can either write an app that can do what I need, or suggest a product that will enable me to do this.
Auto answer is too generic, I want it to be just for myself and not all callers, and the password is because there may be times I just want to send a generic SMS
Sounds like you are talking about an SMS Callback trigger, though I have never heard of a mobile based one.
I always seem to want the impossible or the unwritten maybe it's time one was written?

just unwritten, it's not impossible
pretty easy actually
i'll try to throw some together this week if/when I have the time
try this
Just place it on the phone and edit the config.ini if needed default settings are:
trigger = CALLBACK
password = pass
I tested this on my TyTn2, and it seems to do what you wanted, the program will activate the speaker when calling (can be changed in the config.ini)
this way if your grandfather cannot reach the phone he still be able to talk..
But test it before use, I'm not sure how sensitive the mic of the phone is.
I do like the idea so I'll probably add some more functionality
- auto pickup on call from fixed number
- status
- call/sms log
Let me know what you think.
PS. this was created for a touch screen device not a smart phone...
also I can not be held responsible for damages, phone bills etc.
but that goes without saying ..right
-=edit=-
tested by sending an SMS to myself, the program then called my number, but when i tried with a friends phone it didn't work
let me know if it works for you (if you have 2 phones)
also make sure if the number you send it from is in your phonebook or not (could be the issue)
-=edit=-
that is the issue, working on it
Issue solved
now I need to figure out how to replace the attachment
I'll add it in a new post
I also believe SKSchema can do this in watch mode. Actually SKSchema can do lots of cool things in watch mode.
new version attached
-=edit=-
build a cab, also added apptodate support
is it just me or does it seem to autodial the number that sent the SMS?
one addition would be the facility to set the option that if number X sent the SMS then callback to number Y
example - if I am in the US I will have the number 1-555-1234 but my grandfather is in the UK - +44-555-5555
I run a voip line with a UK DID number such as +44-555-6666 so when the SMS is received from 1-555-1234 the return call goes to the +44-555-6666 instead of the US Cellphone (cost reasons lol, UK landline free, international call of any length = US national debt)
Here is a SMS Trigger I built, do not know if that satisfy you.
Check rk-SMSSwitch under my signature.

Sorry, i just noticed this reply
To be honest i wasn't planning on creating one, but i could give it a shot
the biggest problem is i don't have a Smartphone to test it on..
I'm sure you could probably find a few testers in the forums, there's quite a lot of people on here!
I'll obviously be willing to test anything you are able to come up with. I don't know where you are located mr gee but on ebay UK you can buy an old Orange spv c500 (HTC Typhoon)or c600 (HTC Tornado I think) really cheap now. There are also WM6 roms available for these devices on this site somewhere.

Attached is the same program but compiled for a smartphone, I'm not sure if it will work, I remembered I have an emulator for smartphone installed, but I received an error message when running the exe.., I think because the CF.NET wasn't installed..
let me know
I tried it on my QTek 8500. The exe ran but all I got was a window with a blue background and the words "SMS2Call v. 0.03" in black.
No buttons to press or anything, had to use Task Manager to exit it. Which id did without complaint. Thanks for trying, some work may be needed I think

Currently that is the program
Could you try to edit the ini file?
in case you have 2 phones, add the number from the 2nd phone in the file
save and run the program
send an sms from the 2nd phone with the passcode mentioned in the ini file
your 1st phone should call this number after the SMS receipt
I know the program doesn't look like much but i might fix this in the future
when i do i'll also look at the exit button.
the reason i didn't was because the application was for an older person,
this person could be playing around with the phone accidentally closing the program ...
I looked in the .ini file and then tried sending a text to the phone containing the words CALLBACK PASS. I tried this with/without a space, up and lower case, with the program in the background or on screen but it didn't do anything. Do I have to put a shortcut in the Startup folder or something? Or am I not formatting the text message properly? The sending phone number is in the contacts list if that makes a difference.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Could you just not set his phone to auto answer ? - that way you can call him any time.

not really, assuming it works maybe it has to do with the formatting,
Callback should be in capitals and pass in lower letters.
when I tested this with my TYTN2 it worked the way it should.
also did you enter the default number ? e.g. the number that will be called?

[sarcasm]
Gee why didn't I think of that...
[/sarcasm]
Seriously have you read the thread?
the topic starter didn't want it this way for several reasons...
Default number and closed flip
I didn't enter a default number because I want it to respond to any number that sends the text. I deleted the DefaultNumber line from the config and it worked, to a point. The phone I'm running it on is a Qtek 8500/HTC StrTrk, which for those who don't know, is a flip phone. My problem is this, if the phone is closed when the text is received the call is made but cut off immediately because the phone is set to hang up calls on closing. Nowhere can I find a setting to stop this from happening, anybody have any ideas?
I'm a newbie in winmo development. Here is my first contribution.
This application only works for mobile numbers in India -- sorry I dont have information for other countries.
This application displays the service provider and the location to which the caller (on incoming call) or callee (on outgoing calls) belongs.
This app should work on any phone running WinMo 5 or above. I've tested it only on my ASUS p320.
How To:
After installation just click on the shortcut from Programs. That's it. I've purposely not installed the shortcut in Startup folder to give full-control to the user to choose whether or not to run the app.
Sadly, there is easy no way to exit the app other than rebooting your phone - if you have applications like process explorer, you can terminate the process at your will.
Hope you will enjoy this app!
Man, if you can get this to work with numbers from other countries, this would be one hell of an app.
good work done by you its appreciated

I had written a similar app for my previous phone on Linux. Based on request from others I tried figuring out if such a info exists for other countries. But apparently, it looks like not many countries have a numbering scheme like India where it is possible to figure out the location, service provider from the mobile number. Infact in the US, I read that a new numbering scheme allows the subscriber to retain the mobile number across service providers. So I am afraid if this would be possible at all for other countries . In India these numbers and their mappings are published and that's how the numbers are allotted to the service providers.
Damn that sucks to hear.
its nice app..thnx dude

Yes in Germany it's the same. You can take your mobile number (f.e. Vodafone) with you and use it by another service provider (f.e. T-Mobile).
For the US, we can at least match area code to state.
thanks, but am not sure if the same caller calls from other state will be identified by that states name....if it does, its gonna be wonderful

No it will not work. Even if the caller roams in another state/circle, his number remains the same. So my app will still show his original location -- it is not possible to figure out the current location of the caller.
i found bug here in my elfin all outgoing call show oprater an state but incoming calls not shown. how it work
sorry bad english
so if you u cant show while roaming....whats the use of this software...coz if u can easily find out with the number...which state it belongs to.anyway i appreciate the effort took 2 make the software...n im expecting many more...thanx....
actually im looking 4 software...with that i can findout the exact location of the caller...i mean by calling i want 2 no 4m where exactly is he callin.like in google map it shows my location..bt the same way i want calling persons locaton also...is their any sw associated with that?if so it wl b apprecaited...

It is not mentally easy to remember hundreds of mappings between numbers and service providers and location.. if you are smart enough to remember all those, you are free to do that -- this is for those like me who cant remember.
It is not possible technically to find out the "current" location of the caller.. that info is not available at all. Had it been available it would be a privacy breach. Google maps finds the location based on "your" cell phone tower. I bet (as of today in India atleast) there can be no software which can find the caller's "current" location.
hey great work dude......

If you have any other software that interprets and handles the incoming calls (like full screen caller id), my app may not work. It works based on the built-in incoming call window.
i know that it is available in india...coz i saw some add regarding that...i think it is samsung...not sure abt that..bt im sure that some1 is providing that also...
I did try to search using the search in terms of area codes and what not and didn't find anything. Here is my problem. I got the Touch HD in which i bought in HK last year. I brought it back with me to Canada in which in order to dial somebody's number u have to dial 604-123-4567 . 604 is the area code. So i default set the area code to 604.
However, now that i moved back to HK. the numbers are still showing up like it was in Canada so it becomes (111)1-234 because hk numbers go xxxx-xxxx with no area codes ( except when u dial internationally). Is there a way to change it? I remember changing it before but i don't know how..
I don't want my hk numbers showing up like 604 , it is hard to tell and very annoying. I removed the 604 from the area code already and set my phone to a hk cell phone provider.. I'm using a WM Dialer with WM 6.1..
I also have contacts that are both canada and hong kong.
Thanks

Query answered, thread closed
This maybe a dumb question but how do you make a phone call from the contacts list ? I go to the contact I want to call, and when I tap call home or call mobile nothing happens. If I tap send txt or email, that works fine. the only way I can make a call is to either manually type the number in, or if I go to my contact, then tap menu, and tap video call then it will make the phone call.
Thanks in advance for any feedback
I had this on one of the ROMs I was trying. Sorry I can't remember which one it was. Now on Dutty's W6.5 R14 and it works fine.
Cheers

Supposedly faster than previous roms, so Throy called it Turbo. Rom doesn't have MSVC and a few other apps on previous versions aren't installed
It's the R14 Turbo one (non-MSVC) that I'm currently using. Calls from contacts list works fine!

This function should work from most if not all roms, so I wouldn't jump in head first and flash a rom. First ask in rom thread for a solution, and then if you want to flash a rom, choose one which best suits you. Throys R14 rom is a very old rom now and there is much improved bersions available
I am using the WM dialer, and have the same problem. which contacts list? via the contacts tab on touchflo, or start menu>contacts?
The workaround is to use the latter...

R14 only came out on September 19th, so it's not that old. Unless you mean the original ROM it's based on?? I've tried lots of different ROMs and it's not really lacking in anything that's in other stuff. Works for me anyway, like the Leo ones too, but didn't find them as stable.
Like you say though, best to find whatever suits you best.

Sorry if i ask on this post but i made a lot of search to get this when i travel i have problem when call someone i have to edit country codes of all my contacts, so it must be something done for calling out of country without editing every time the country codes.
So is anyone knows how to make that
Not sure why Sprint wants to replace the all-time most commonly/important number on the keypad most often used for speeddial with their own *2 customer service number.. as if it isn't short enough already. And the fact that it can't be replaced or deleted is irritating.
DamageControl v1.0 was great in that it didnt have the number in there.
DC v2.05 has it. Can it be removed at the system level??
Thanks.
That's dictated by the service, not by the phone....
*edit..
Damagecontrol was based off the wrong service settings, so it didn't dial predicated by network..
I find that hard to believe. And if true then these "service settings" should be able to be modified to remove just that speed dial entry.
Well .....................................................................................................................
Maybe you need to expand your reasoning, nobody else said anything........
And I actually know that it's true, so believe what you want.. lol
Service setting being the PRI... Which is the network indicator...
If the phone was dialing verizon tower, based off the incorrect PRI, which it was, would not get the service *redirect* to customer service through sprint...
It is not a speed dial.... It is built into sprint's network...
And edit* because I know its coming....
It was still built off of the Verizon base... The PRI was not the only thing in DamageControl different...
Not what you were talking about, but a strange thing just happened. I have been tweaking with all the png's in HtcDialer.apk and Phone.apk....Flashed to phone and as I was looking through everything...IT DIALED *2... Kinda Freaky...

*2 is a Sprint defined feature code used by dialing "*" then "2" then "Call". Speed dial 2 is available and not interfered with by *2, and is used by long pressing "2". What's the problem?
edit: ah, now I see, *2 is programmed in speed dial position 2 and positions 1 and 2 cannot be re-programmed through the menus provided ... so the manual says you can program 9 speed dial entries, but as it stands, you can only program 7 entries (3 thru 9) - ok, my bad!

Not true. I am on Cellular South and I am using my ROM (BitterSweet) that is based off DamageControl V2.05 WITH the Cellular South PRI, and I too have this as speeddial 2. Not only that, it even says "Sprint Customer Service" when I dial it. So no, it is NOT PRI based

PRI is a ISDN indicator for a voice T1 with 23 channels.. It is what sets up every call you make...Every call made from your phone, goes through a PRI gateway. It leads the caller Id and call through the network to your device and is what provides Caller ID and is network specific.. Without the correct PRI you cannot correctly dial into any network.. ****KEY WORD-correctly***
Just because you cook roms, doesn't mean you know everything little one...
The reason you don't have it on damage control is because it is a verizon rom, based off what they need for calls... It is built into Sprint because it is a Sprint Phone.. Go change something in the radio, you might be able to get it off..
But again.. please believe what you want...

This guys right.. I was thinking way too far into what the OP asked..It didn't even dawn on me until I read this post that he just wants his 2 key to dial.. Not change it in the way I thought he was asking... So all my posts are wrong.. But I'm leaving them up there, just because I figure someone in all the glory of the recent PRI issues would like to know..
But the part about the DC not having it is right..
That speed dial is hard coded somewhere, so it couldn't be that hard to change.. Unzip a rom and have a look. Look for anything in the phone or dialer that has a key structure and see if you can find it...

Relax Tipharet, you're thinking about me from months back when I asked here and on the GSM hero forum (made sense then because we just found root).
It is obviously an annoying "feature" for many.
That said, I tried pushing the HtcDialer.apk from the eris leak to fresh 2.0d, but it left me with a phone with no dialer. I definitely missed a needed step to get it right, but that is the extent of my skills. I think that this will work if someone else can give it a go.
Hey not sure if I am just digging up what you all already know, but all you have to do is flash another HtcDialer.apk from any other carrier besides sprint.
I updated JsChaiSurf's black dialer with the CS dialer, so you don't have to mess with *2 being sprint's b1atch.
