I'm a newbie in winmo development. Here is my first contribution.
This application only works for mobile numbers in India -- sorry I dont have information for other countries.
This application displays the service provider and the location to which the caller (on incoming call) or callee (on outgoing calls) belongs.
This app should work on any phone running WinMo 5 or above. I've tested it only on my ASUS p320.
How To:
After installation just click on the shortcut from Programs. That's it. I've purposely not installed the shortcut in Startup folder to give full-control to the user to choose whether or not to run the app.
Sadly, there is easy no way to exit the app other than rebooting your phone - if you have applications like process explorer, you can terminate the process at your will.
Hope you will enjoy this app!
Man, if you can get this to work with numbers from other countries, this would be one hell of an app.
good work done by you its appreciated
Great Work Man

hopefully we can get it working for the US and other countries!!
Thank you!

I had written a similar app for my previous phone on Linux. Based on request from others I tried figuring out if such a info exists for other countries. But apparently, it looks like not many countries have a numbering scheme like India where it is possible to figure out the location, service provider from the mobile number. Infact in the US, I read that a new numbering scheme allows the subscriber to retain the mobile number across service providers. So I am afraid if this would be possible at all for other countries . In India these numbers and their mappings are published and that's how the numbers are allotted to the service providers.
Damn that sucks to hear.
its nice app..thnx dude

Yes in Germany it's the same. You can take your mobile number (f.e. Vodafone) with you and use it by another service provider (f.e. T-Mobile).
For the US, we can at least match area code to state.
thanks, but am not sure if the same caller calls from other state will be identified by that states name....if it does, its gonna be wonderful

No it will not work. Even if the caller roams in another state/circle, his number remains the same. So my app will still show his original location -- it is not possible to figure out the current location of the caller.
i found bug here in my elfin all outgoing call show oprater an state but incoming calls not shown. how it work
sorry bad english
so if you u cant show while roaming....whats the use of this software...coz if u can easily find out with the number...which state it belongs to.anyway i appreciate the effort took 2 make the software...n im expecting many more...thanx....
actually im looking 4 software...with that i can findout the exact location of the caller...i mean by calling i want 2 no 4m where exactly is he callin.like in google map it shows my location..bt the same way i want calling persons locaton also...is their any sw associated with that?if so it wl b apprecaited...
Will try it and feedback, thanks bro.

It is not mentally easy to remember hundreds of mappings between numbers and service providers and location.. if you are smart enough to remember all those, you are free to do that -- this is for those like me who cant remember.
It is not possible technically to find out the "current" location of the caller.. that info is not available at all. Had it been available it would be a privacy breach. Google maps finds the location based on "your" cell phone tower. I bet (as of today in India atleast) there can be no software which can find the caller's "current" location.
hey great work dude......

If you have any other software that interprets and handles the incoming calls (like full screen caller id), my app may not work. It works based on the built-in incoming call window.
i know that it is available in india...coz i saw some add regarding that...i think it is samsung...not sure abt that..bt im sure that some1 is providing that also...

This is way too cool! I really love this software. I hope never to have to rely on it but just to know its there will make me sleep better. Thanks.
Wow!
The link doesn't work, but... there is or could you do something like that for the PDA2K?
Thanks!

Edsub,
I am wondering if the already excellent IIWPO could be further enhanced by a simple but witty add-on. I am imagining the capability to receive a Kill-Signal via SMS. If all attemps to recover the phone fails because the person who holds it has not put in a full & proper owner name + address we still have a phone number right? Therefore we can send an SMS to the phone at will. If IIWPO listens for a specific sms subject line then we could instruct it to disable the phone in some fashion that can be reversed and display a message to this end "tell" the thief to return the phone no questions asked etc. If still no luck then we could send a signal forever killing the phone. Am I watching too many spy movies? ;-)
Hope you like the idea. Sounds fun to me. Regards
I like the idea  , but since am not a CE developer (and I did not develop IIWPO either, just put the parts that were there together for use on a Himalaya) I have no idea whether or not this is possible.
Maybe any of the real xda-developers see a possibility here :?:

This is possible, and was used on an HP Jornado 928 ...
On this handset, a simple SMS containing a specific codeword or PIN would 'lock' the handset so that it could not be used. Quite useful and as far as I know unique to the HP Jornado 928.
Anyone know any different ?
Cheers
Mark
wow!! this would be great for the PPC! ive tried something like this in my symbian NOKIA 6600! and its very useful!! if you change the sim the phone will automatically send a message to your predefined numbers containing some info on the current location of your phone... and if you send a code to it thru SMS it will lock up and it cant be used unless you flash it or something.. i bet the PPC version is even greater!! cant wait for a full version!

My wife lost her handphone to some dishonest fella who picks it up and perhaps remove the SIM/off the HP.
Perhaps we can have it SMS your selected police station on startup and replay an SMS with your customised message:
"Yeah baby! I've stolen this handphone and there is NOTHING that you bloody incompetent slobs can do about it! <vulgarities applied here>!"
<repeat 100 times>
In my country, we can have different numbers for neighbourhood police post. The SMS will be repeated as a robotic voice message to the LAND phone as well.
I can at least ensure that the message does not go into a generic 911 number.

well that is entirely possible!!! and that is a damn good idea you have there!
hey will this work on a WM5 device (PDA2K upgraded)? If so will it be the same steps?
Is there an option/software to display the Network info ??
I mean to say,
Is it possible to get the location name info of the place iam, from the service provider.
This option seems to be common in most GSM phones.
They show the location you are.
Is it possible to get the same in my Hermes?
i'm sure we have those softwares....
but, i cannot tell the name cause i only know it's name of Chinese...
sorry

Good to hear that there is a software for that purpose.
But, its really sad that its in chinese
Pls somebody help me.
I need it badly
Um, isn't what you're after just the cell broadcast feature? Under the 'more' tab in your phone settings you can enable broadcast. I have found that it works fine with 2G or normal 3G networks, but when i'm on a HSDPA connection, it won't work.
I think the batterystatus plugin can then display it on the today screen so you don't have annoying messages popping up every 30 seconds, but i can't remember exactly.
Basically I am looking for some software which, on receipt of an SMS will initiate an outbound call to a number in the contact list on the phone.
something along the lines of :-
SMS received from 1-555-5555 containing the word CALLBACK and a password.
Phone then dials 1-555-4444 or any specific contact as defined in its config
it doesn't have to use the contact list but must be triggerable remotely.
Target device is a HTC Hermes. and possibly a StarTrk
The program doesn't need to be stealthy, it's to initiate the call with full permission from the owner but without intervention.
Partly it's for my grandfather, if I give him a Startrk then I want to be able to activate a call remotely if I get notified that he has triggered his medicalert system, so I can try to see if he is ok without him having to answer a call.
I googled, and found nothing, I'm hoping someone here can either write an app that can do what I need, or suggest a product that will enable me to do this.
Auto answer is too generic, I want it to be just for myself and not all callers, and the password is because there may be times I just want to send a generic SMS
Sounds like you are talking about an SMS Callback trigger, though I have never heard of a mobile based one.
I always seem to want the impossible or the unwritten maybe it's time one was written?

just unwritten, it's not impossible
pretty easy actually
i'll try to throw some together this week if/when I have the time
try this
Just place it on the phone and edit the config.ini if needed default settings are:
trigger = CALLBACK
password = pass
I tested this on my TyTn2, and it seems to do what you wanted, the program will activate the speaker when calling (can be changed in the config.ini)
this way if your grandfather cannot reach the phone he still be able to talk..
But test it before use, I'm not sure how sensitive the mic of the phone is.
I do like the idea so I'll probably add some more functionality
- auto pickup on call from fixed number
- status
- call/sms log
Let me know what you think.
PS. this was created for a touch screen device not a smart phone...
also I can not be held responsible for damages, phone bills etc.
but that goes without saying ..right
-=edit=-
tested by sending an SMS to myself, the program then called my number, but when i tried with a friends phone it didn't work
let me know if it works for you (if you have 2 phones)
also make sure if the number you send it from is in your phonebook or not (could be the issue)
-=edit=-
that is the issue, working on it
Issue solved
now I need to figure out how to replace the attachment
I'll add it in a new post
I also believe SKSchema can do this in watch mode. Actually SKSchema can do lots of cool things in watch mode.
new version attached
-=edit=-
build a cab, also added apptodate support
is it just me or does it seem to autodial the number that sent the SMS?
one addition would be the facility to set the option that if number X sent the SMS then callback to number Y
example - if I am in the US I will have the number 1-555-1234 but my grandfather is in the UK - +44-555-5555
I run a voip line with a UK DID number such as +44-555-6666 so when the SMS is received from 1-555-1234 the return call goes to the +44-555-6666 instead of the US Cellphone (cost reasons lol, UK landline free, international call of any length = US national debt)
Here is a SMS Trigger I built, do not know if that satisfy you.
Check rk-SMSSwitch under my signature.

Sorry, i just noticed this reply
To be honest i wasn't planning on creating one, but i could give it a shot
the biggest problem is i don't have a Smartphone to test it on..
I'm sure you could probably find a few testers in the forums, there's quite a lot of people on here!
I'll obviously be willing to test anything you are able to come up with. I don't know where you are located mr gee but on ebay UK you can buy an old Orange spv c500 (HTC Typhoon)or c600 (HTC Tornado I think) really cheap now. There are also WM6 roms available for these devices on this site somewhere.

I tried it on my QTek 8500. The exe ran but all I got was a window with a blue background and the words "SMS2Call v. 0.03" in black.
No buttons to press or anything, had to use Task Manager to exit it. Which id did without complaint. Thanks for trying, some work may be needed I think

Currently that is the program
Could you try to edit the ini file?
in case you have 2 phones, add the number from the 2nd phone in the file
save and run the program
send an sms from the 2nd phone with the passcode mentioned in the ini file
your 1st phone should call this number after the SMS receipt
I know the program doesn't look like much but i might fix this in the future
when i do i'll also look at the exit button.
the reason i didn't was because the application was for an older person,
this person could be playing around with the phone accidentally closing the program ...
I looked in the .ini file and then tried sending a text to the phone containing the words CALLBACK PASS. I tried this with/without a space, up and lower case, with the program in the background or on screen but it didn't do anything. Do I have to put a shortcut in the Startup folder or something? Or am I not formatting the text message properly? The sending phone number is in the contacts list if that makes a difference.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Could you just not set his phone to auto answer ? - that way you can call him any time.

not really, assuming it works maybe it has to do with the formatting,
Callback should be in capitals and pass in lower letters.
when I tested this with my TYTN2 it worked the way it should.
also did you enter the default number ? e.g. the number that will be called?

Gee why didn't I think of that...

Seriously have you read the thread?
the topic starter didn't want it this way for several reasons...
Default number and closed flip
I didn't enter a default number because I want it to respond to any number that sends the text. I deleted the DefaultNumber line from the config and it worked, to a point. The phone I'm running it on is a Qtek 8500/HTC StrTrk, which for those who don't know, is a flip phone. My problem is this, if the phone is closed when the text is received the call is made but cut off immediately because the phone is set to hang up calls on closing. Nowhere can I find a setting to stop this from happening, anybody have any ideas?
Greetings!
Just finished a working version of my new little neat utility which looks up an unknown caller (number among your contacts) with the norwegian service GuleSider.no (yellow pages directory service) and a page called telefonterror.no (lists known telemarketeers in Norway).
When there's a call from an unknown caller the program looks up in both directories and displays the information on top of the HTC-Answer-incoming-call-application.
The program will auto-start on boot and auto-appear when a call is made. As of 16.10 the program supports AppToDate and will be automatically updated by using this.
Please try it out, give me some feedback and buy me a cup of coffee if you like it

Okey fellow developer guys (gals?):
I separated the HTML-parser from the from the project and to its own DLL.
If you would like to "contribute for your country" download the HtmlParserPlugin.zip, unzip and open in visual studio!
All the methods are static, so to make a test project you can just call the LookUpNumber with different types of numbers. If you need to format the number before sending it to the directory service use the StripNumberPrefix-method. Remember to check all outcomes, what if number is unknown to service, wrongly formatted etc etc.
If you only want to use one service just remove the calls to the second one from LookUpNumber.
You probably (not tested by me) can swap the DLL you're generating with the one in the application folder on your device, restart the app and hopefully it will work with your new parser Atleast that's the plan!
If you're satisfied with your own work, send your new DLL to me along with the source code and I will build a country specific version
Ah, great
Hopefully a dev will pickup the dutch-part.
*patiently waits*

BUMP: Microsoft again has changed the policies! Chat seems to be working again!
Thanks to members for the tip. I had a little talk with one of the fellow MS employes and he said, actual WP7 customers were suffering due to the policy change. People were finding it frustrating to have to send scanned copies. So, they made it easier.Enjoy!
BUMP: Microsoft has changed the policies! Now they need scanned copy of IMEI number and product purchase proof! If anybody is able to get key by any other method, do post in this thread!
Hello, people!
I see lots of people asking for unlock keys for there HD2-7, just because their country doesn't seem to have the call center. However, I have found that, Microsoft is supporting all the big countries!
If you find this guide helpful, don't forget to hit the 'Thanks' button.
Here is the guide.
1. First of all, you need the contact number of Microsoft call center in your country.
Go here and grab it. http://www.microsoft.com/worldwide/
I have found it working for India!
2. Now, I think calls in most of the countries will be answered by the IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System). Most probably, you will get lost in choosing menu options.
3. Simply wait for the last option where the system says that press __ to talk to our technical support person. (In India, you have to type 06)
4. Now, the person will receive you. Tell him your Windows Live Id and all other things. (you need not fake!) And tell them your issue. He may say that you are in wrong section! Ask him to transfer his call to product activation section for WP7. (All this is to avoid getting lost in IVRS menu!)
5. Now, your call will be transfered. Tell the person that you want to activate your HTC HD7! (Make sure, its launched in your country.)
6. That's it! The person confirms your Live ID and gives you the key. (Its kinda difficult though to get 25 characters correctly through phone. Make sure you take down everything correctly!)
7. If step 3 onwards doesn't work (like technical support person doesn't know what you're talking about) tell them the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2431699 and tell him that this is I want.
8. Alternatively, you can navigate to Xbox live support and ask them for key. (You have to tell them that you were asked for the key when you tried to access the Xbox live from your HD7)
9. Method of Skype is good but won't work on poor connections. (and most of the connections fall in this category, as far as developing countries are concerned!)
Again, I need your feedback. Comments are most welcome (and so are thanks!) Please, buy me a cup of milk, if you wish! (I don't like beer! )People in India can use SBI net banking. (PM me for account number!)
Hope you enjoy it.
hey akshay! Thanks for the detailed description. BTW i had no issue with activation key as that was butter smooth to get from MS India. As the HD2 now activated, how do you install apps from Marketplace as for me it doesnt download any apps from marketplace.
I tried these methods already
1. Clean install of WP7, activation of Live services by activation key and then logging in to marketplace via both region being India as well as US. It would show message something like "Can't get info right now, try later"
2. I also tried registry editing to as in here. Then tried connecting to marketplace. Error pop up as Marketplace not available in your location.
3. I did regedit on my Windows 7 to access marketplace using Zune desktop, which is a success, it opens and registers my choices, also show that your app will be installed soon, but no app is installed.
4. Finally i downloaded WP7 Desktop Marketplace, i works fine, downloads, as well as deploys apps to my phone but show error in a few app deployment. As of now this is the only work around for me with a few limitations.
If you able to access marketplace and download apps directly to your mobile or by any other better way, please guide me.

Why so difficult?
Please go to here: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_selector_chat?ws=support#
Choose the top chat. Wait a minute. Tell them you need a activation code for your WP7 phone. They ask name and phone number. After waiting another minute they give it to you.
Last question they have: Did it work? You say YES!
(I did this three times - for myself, my wife and a friend)

Yeah i really say the same! It really works. Better to chat with the support, instead of talking and phone waiting. Took me about 3 minutes until i got my key! REALLY NICE! +1

I think, you should not do these things alternatively. You better perform everything stepwise according to the guide posted in HD2 WP7 section. It should work.

I did all as mentioned but as WP7 not officially launched by MS in India, no marketplace availability. Also Zune Marketplace app download issue is resolved, just a few more tweaks required and done. Now I am comfortably installing free apps from Marketplace using Zune. Also have a lot many Xbox Live games but wont post any links here as it would be piracy...no piracy on XDA.

Your problem is clearly related to your Live ID belonging to an unsupported Country.
Create a new Live ID with Region set to US and you should be fine.

Well Saurabh, you really don't need to Skype at all. I know how frustrating it is! As I've clearly mentioned, you can straightway call them and get the key. Also, some users have confirmed to get it via chat support. Please, ignore Skype thing. Its not really for slow connections. Use chat support or straightway fire a call. Looks like you'll have to wait two days as its already Friday and call centers will be open on Monday.
Reply with progress!
EDIT: By the way, call center contact details for India are:
Phone: 1800 102 1100 (Toll free number accessible from Airtel land line and mobile phones
Phone: 1800 111 100 (Toll free number accessible from MTNL/BSNL land line)
Phone: +91 80 40103000
