IIWPO: Theft protection in ROM for Himalaya - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

(Re-published due to forum structure change)
Based of the IIWPO solution initially meant for Wallaby devices (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=2526), I created a customizable installer for Himalaya:
See the Wiki page on IIWPO

Hopefully IIWPO suprises a lot of thiefs!!!!!

This is way too cool! I really love this software. I hope never to have to rely on it but just to know its there will make me sleep better. Thanks.

Wow!
The link doesn't work, but... there is or could you do something like that for the PDA2K?
Thanks!
Chris

Edsub,
I am wondering if the already excellent IIWPO could be further enhanced by a simple but witty add-on. I am imagining the capability to receive a Kill-Signal via SMS. If all attemps to recover the phone fails because the person who holds it has not put in a full & proper owner name + address we still have a phone number right? Therefore we can send an SMS to the phone at will. If IIWPO listens for a specific sms subject line then we could instruct it to disable the phone in some fashion that can be reversed and display a message to this end "tell" the thief to return the phone no questions asked etc. If still no luck then we could send a signal forever killing the phone. Am I watching too many spy movies? ;-)
Hope you like the idea. Sounds fun to me. Regards

I like the idea  , but since am not a CE developer (and I did not develop IIWPO either, just put the parts that were there together for use on a Himalaya) I have no idea whether or not this is possible.
Maybe any of the real xda-developers see a possibility here :?:

This is possible, and was used on an HP Jornado 928 ...
On this handset, a simple SMS containing a specific codeword or PIN would 'lock' the handset so that it could not be used. Quite useful and as far as I know unique to the HP Jornado 928.
Anyone know any different ?
Cheers
Mark

wow!! this would be great for the PPC! ive tried something like this in my symbian NOKIA 6600! and its very useful!! if you change the sim the phone will automatically send a message to your predefined numbers containing some info on the current location of your phone... and if you send a code to it thru SMS it will lock up and it cant be used unless you flash it or something.. i bet the PPC version is even greater!! cant wait for a full version!

I would like the facility to electrocute the new "owner" through the ear when he makes a call, 50,000 volts would be fine. Or maybe a spring bolt that would activate and shatter his jaw.

Perhaps the local police station...

My wife lost her handphone to some dishonest fella who picks it up and perhaps remove the SIM/off the HP.
Perhaps we can have it SMS your selected police station on startup and replay an SMS with your customised message:
"Yeah baby! I've stolen this handphone and there is NOTHING that you bloody incompetent slobs can do about it! <vulgarities applied here>!"
<repeat 100 times>
In my country, we can have different numbers for neighbourhood police post. The SMS will be repeated as a robotic voice message to the LAND phone as well.
I can at least ensure that the message does not go into a generic 911 number.

Once more: request for answeringmachine-software

Hi there!
As mentioned in one thread earlier, there may be no real need for an call-answeringmachine-software in the UK or USA, but there is in austria, germany, and some other countries.
The feature to give special callers an personalized away-message would be really great. So you could tell your firends or family an nice "sorry, i'm working but i'll call cou back soon" and your buisines-friends tell "sorry, please call back later" ;-)
In the mentioned countries you pay for a call you do, not for receiving calls. So to listen your messages costs.
For these two reasons, and 'cause the software exists even for a series60 phone  this bit of software would be GREAT.
So, maybe one of the real great programmers could do this?
What do you mean?
Yours
Pedro
As I've posted 100 times before, such a program is _impossible_ on any of our devices. This is a limitation of OS and GSM hardware.
And besides, there is always the call forwarding feature w/c you can use to divert calls to your home or office answering machine.
i have seen such answering machine software on simbian cell phones. and even much more functional than a simple answering machine, having the ability to play diiferent messages for different nos.
why nobody tries to write such a program for PPC.
If you state that it's impossible to have such program , can you explain to me in details why is that?
I would not explain anything.
Read MSDN. TAPI don't support wave IO. GSM modem don't support voice modem AT commands. And Windows Mobile is not a Symbian.

I don't understnad ?!?!?!
 Y it's not possible ???we have an option automatic pickup all what u have to do is to develop a software that will play a small message & the start recording after the beep :!: :?:
I guess only i think there will be the surrounding noise always there ???!!!
But it could start like that !!!! What about reading the messages stored on the SIM if we can read the contacts & save them on the PDA y not also read the messages & saves them also on the PDA???

I am more for a SMS Filter.

Don't forget there is the mute button, maybe the mute function could be used when the call is answered and a wav file is played to the caller over the radio interface?

Hehehe, I still believe that it's not possible to do it, although JGUI claims that he's doing it.
I mean mamaich said it's impossible, and the guy knows what he's talking about.
Anyways I believe that in case it was done, it'd be nice to have one.

his site has a rather funny screenshot of black BA running WM2K5. This can be possible only in one case - he has some friends in MS. And in this case it is also possible that he has obtained there a custom radio ROM that supports voice-modem features. Lets wait for the release of his software, and I'll check that.
From The Reputation JGUI Has aruound here i would expect anything but buggy software. Just Do a searc of his name and you'll be able to read the woes of his clients.... even try it at HoFo

[new release] VJSMSSender Class 0 SMS

Guys, this is just to fill a request on my website
It is used to send a Class 0 SMS. It's used in exactly the same way as VJSMSSender from VJPhoneTools.
Class 0 SMS, for those who don't know, is an SMS that is sent directly to the recipient's phone and will appear immediately on the screen, without requiring the recipient to go into the Inbox. Also, the SMS is not saved in the inbox, so there is no trace of it on the phone.
Great for illicit affairs!
Please use it responsibily, I don't know if there are any special rules about Class 0 SMS, but if there are any objections I'll remove it.
Check it out on my website
V
Hi Vijay,

THANX mate.
How you do them all ??? ))))
BTW, why would you remove it from your website?? Flash SMS is perfectly legal AFAIK.

Yes that would be a great idea if it could be done.
vijay555 is this possible ?
TraumaTiger
Hum, how do i run this app? command line how? Can someone explain thanks.
q-biq:
download and install VJPhoneTools
http://www.vijay555.com/index.php?Releases:VJPhoneTools
and check out the page for instructions on how to use VJSMSSender.
Then, the class 0 prog works in exactly the same way as VJSMSSender.
Use GSFinder etc to make appropriate shortcuts, or use a today launcher like cLaunch etc.
TraumaTiger/Chatty: I think I could write an SMS spoofer, but I don't think it's wise. I will try to write it anyway for the fun of it (!) and tell you if it works...
V
oh koool. workin great, but do i need to change the shortcut evry time i need to send to a new phonenumber? takes to long time hehe..
and how have you created the icons on the top so i can send from there?
Once again..
VJ its possible to send to more than one recipient at the same time ?
thank you
q-biq: yep, the shortcut needs to be changed each time. It's more for use on a today screen: it was requested that you could eg send a msg to your wife on the way home with no key presses etc. VJSMS still requires you to press send, while VJSMSSender sends it straight off, so yes, it has to be manually configures each time.
More that that and it would have to work like a replacement for the inbox, and that's not what it's for (right now! perhaps in the future).
fcaeiro: no, I'm afraid VJSMSSender doesn't have a CC feature. I could try to look into it a some point, but I haven't thought about it right now...too busy coding other stuff!
V
It's definately possible to spoof the sender ID - Siemens S25 tools offered it already (if you remember that old handset).
can you explain howto spoof id??
SMS ID spoofing is easy enough in theory. I will try to write it, and if it works, I'll take feedback on whether it deserves releasing. But let me write it first

With Vodafone.se you can just put a -A- in the begining of the sms to hide your number.

Is there any software which can do this?

Basically I am looking for some software which, on receipt of an SMS will initiate an outbound call to a number in the contact list on the phone.
something along the lines of :-
SMS received from 1-555-5555 containing the word CALLBACK and a password.
Phone then dials 1-555-4444 or any specific contact as defined in its config
it doesn't have to use the contact list but must be triggerable remotely.
Target device is a HTC Hermes. and possibly a StarTrk
The program doesn't need to be stealthy, it's to initiate the call with full permission from the owner but without intervention.
Partly it's for my grandfather, if I give him a Startrk then I want to be able to activate a call remotely if I get notified that he has triggered his medicalert system, so I can try to see if he is ok without him having to answer a call.
I googled, and found nothing, I'm hoping someone here can either write an app that can do what I need, or suggest a product that will enable me to do this.
Auto answer is too generic, I want it to be just for myself and not all callers, and the password is because there may be times I just want to send a generic SMS
Sounds like you are talking about an SMS Callback trigger, though I have never heard of a mobile based one.
I always seem to want the impossible or the unwritten maybe it's time one was written?

just unwritten, it's not impossible
pretty easy actually
i'll try to throw some together this week if/when I have the time
try this
Just place it on the phone and edit the config.ini if needed default settings are:
trigger = CALLBACK
password = pass
I tested this on my TyTn2, and it seems to do what you wanted, the program will activate the speaker when calling (can be changed in the config.ini)
this way if your grandfather cannot reach the phone he still be able to talk..
But test it before use, I'm not sure how sensitive the mic of the phone is.
I do like the idea so I'll probably add some more functionality
- auto pickup on call from fixed number
- status
- call/sms log
Let me know what you think.
PS. this was created for a touch screen device not a smart phone...
also I can not be held responsible for damages, phone bills etc.
but that goes without saying ..right
-=edit=-
tested by sending an SMS to myself, the program then called my number, but when i tried with a friends phone it didn't work
let me know if it works for you (if you have 2 phones)
also make sure if the number you send it from is in your phonebook or not (could be the issue)
-=edit=-
that is the issue, working on it
Issue solved
now I need to figure out how to replace the attachment
I'll add it in a new post
I also believe SKSchema can do this in watch mode. Actually SKSchema can do lots of cool things in watch mode.
new version attached
-=edit=-
build a cab, also added apptodate support
is it just me or does it seem to autodial the number that sent the SMS?
one addition would be the facility to set the option that if number X sent the SMS then callback to number Y
example - if I am in the US I will have the number 1-555-1234 but my grandfather is in the UK - +44-555-5555
I run a voip line with a UK DID number such as +44-555-6666 so when the SMS is received from 1-555-1234 the return call goes to the +44-555-6666 instead of the US Cellphone (cost reasons lol, UK landline free, international call of any length = US national debt)
Here is a SMS Trigger I built, do not know if that satisfy you.
Check rk-SMSSwitch under my signature.

Sorry, i just noticed this reply
To be honest i wasn't planning on creating one, but i could give it a shot
the biggest problem is i don't have a Smartphone to test it on..
I'm sure you could probably find a few testers in the forums, there's quite a lot of people on here!
I'll obviously be willing to test anything you are able to come up with. I don't know where you are located mr gee but on ebay UK you can buy an old Orange spv c500 (HTC Typhoon)or c600 (HTC Tornado I think) really cheap now. There are also WM6 roms available for these devices on this site somewhere.

Attached is the same program but compiled for a smartphone, I'm not sure if it will work, I remembered I have an emulator for smartphone installed, but I received an error message when running the exe.., I think because the CF.NET wasn't installed..

I tried it on my QTek 8500. The exe ran but all I got was a window with a blue background and the words "SMS2Call v. 0.03" in black.
No buttons to press or anything, had to use Task Manager to exit it. Which id did without complaint. Thanks for trying, some work may be needed I think

Could you try to edit the ini file?
in case you have 2 phones, add the number from the 2nd phone in the file
save and run the program
send an sms from the 2nd phone with the passcode mentioned in the ini file
your 1st phone should call this number after the SMS receipt
I know the program doesn't look like much but i might fix this in the future
when i do i'll also look at the exit button.
the reason i didn't was because the application was for an older person,
this person could be playing around with the phone accidentally closing the program ...
I looked in the .ini file and then tried sending a text to the phone containing the words CALLBACK PASS. I tried this with/without a space, up and lower case, with the program in the background or on screen but it didn't do anything. Do I have to put a shortcut in the Startup folder or something? Or am I not formatting the text message properly? The sending phone number is in the contacts list if that makes a difference.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Could you just not set his phone to auto answer ? - that way you can call him any time.

not really, assuming it works maybe it has to do with the formatting,
Callback should be in capitals and pass in lower letters.
when I tested this with my TYTN2 it worked the way it should.
also did you enter the default number ? e.g. the number that will be called?

[sarcasm]
Gee why didn't I think of that...
[/sarcasm]
Seriously have you read the thread?
the topic starter didn't want it this way for several reasons...
Default number and closed flip
I didn't enter a default number because I want it to respond to any number that sends the text. I deleted the DefaultNumber line from the config and it worked, to a point. The phone I'm running it on is a Qtek 8500/HTC StrTrk, which for those who don't know, is a flip phone. My problem is this, if the phone is closed when the text is received the call is made but cut off immediately because the phone is set to hang up calls on closing. Nowhere can I find a setting to stop this from happening, anybody have any ideas?

[APP] free SMS denial of service

Hi all , something to brighten up a dull February day for you all
After listening to my daughter moan about some bullies texting her all day and night again and again ,I knocked up a little app to get back at them
Its call *****_txt and is simple
Enter the number , the message, then when you want it to start dropping it's payload
then set the interval in minutes how many texts in each drop and how many times to drop the payload.
http://www.beady.com/*****_txt.jpg
works a treat the victim's phone will slow right down recieving the texts
and depending on the phone fills every bit of SMS memory
The interval is for proper annoyance purposes , so when they thing it's stopped it hasn't
The delay timer is good for waking them up early in the morning
It works, my little offspring never gets those bully texts any more.
WARNING , it is possible to send 1000's of texts very easlily with this program be sure you have unlimited texts available or the laugh is on you.
Its tested on a T-mobile diamond and a orange diamond I haven't access to anything else.
the limits on sending speed are just guesses , it might go faster but i wondered if the network providers may stop it if it was too fast.
any ideas are gladly recieved to improve ( they will be filed in the time/money ratio todo list) and if anyone wants the code , just ask.
and there is no warranty etc etc etc, and use with adult discretion , I know you will.
yes I know its not attached to the first post ... just checking you where awake

whats really gonna be funny is when your daughter's "bullies" get a hold of your little program....backfire??
gotta try this also! seems more complete than sms nuke! thanks!
Does not seem to want to work on my Tilt (kaiser) says incorrect number, i have tried adding and removing country codes. But looks good, I always mess with my friend (in a nice way) making his phone do funny things so this would add to the fun.
Works well, funny app, will have hours of fun with it lol and when are they going to finish the work on the Cobbles in town
There is already an application like that, called bassel's sms i think.
But nice idea.
Not a bad idea, could be improved by sending class0 sms
Might not be so funny if the recipients report the abuse to their network/ police
2 wrongs dont make a right etc etc
not that I agree with her being bullied in the first place
works in the u.s.?

Nice!
Don't wanna be paying 1 grand ++ though..
Make it little batter, add more features like range of recipient numbers etc. and commercialize it...
I am doing it from ages, i am providing web, desktop & smart phone (WM, Symbian, Java) solutions for sms advertisement and stuff, and i like to flood my friends inboxs too
removed number error checking,
now any length of number will work, but it will still remove any non digit characters so use 0044 for international instead of +44

Nice job, there is a bit more in yours,

Lost my HD2

Well i lost my phone on sunday, my fault but still verry annoyed. I tried using the myphone advanced features before but they never worked! Would have been so handy at this time, anyway I wasnt insured so I have to buy another one.
Anyone know what insurance companies are good for covering my HD2?
Im hoping someone hands it in, but in london thats highly unlikely
Can't help you this time round; but when you buy your replacement, go the Sprite Backup's website. They are offering HTC owners a discount on Sprite backup, plus an app (better than Microsoft's) called 'Terminator' that tracks your phone on Google Maps, disables/wipes it if you want. It will also send you an SMS if anyone tries to change the SIM card. But it will noy operate after a hard reset.
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite-backup-htc-special
interesting
now if someone would develop an app that could be built into a custom rom that would (unless disabled by a password after a hard reset) transmit a call log, the current sim number, the latitude/longtitude somewhere we'd have a pretty good chance of screwing up any thieve's plans... unless they know how to flash a rom. (although they shouldn't really be aware that this program is activated after a hard reset so they generally wouldn't know to flash the rom...)

Also the author offers the possibility to cook it directly in the ROM.

Well i lost my phone on sunday, my fault but still verry annoyed. I tried using the myphone advanced features before but they never worked! Would have been so handy at this time, anyway I wasnt insured so I have to buy another one.
Anyone know what insurance companies are good for covering my HD2?
Im hoping someone hands it in, but in london thats highly unlikely

one thinng we can do is insure ur phone or else avoid public transport lol....
is there a way to stop someone from seeing my info on the phone? I reported it lost to o2 and they said it would be blocked.
The phones gone, i just dont want the lucky sob to see all of my stuff
Will O2 offer to sell you a replacement HD2?
When I was with Orange many moons ago, if you didn't have insurance and lost/damaged your phone they would offer you a replacement (refurbished but looked new) at a reduced price (about a third of the RRP) as long as long as you would then take out insurance.
Just wondering if O2 offer anything like this?
Nope, they just said "We are sorry, there is nothing we can do" lol well something like that.
lol wish there was a remote self destruct on the phone

Did you try to call your old number? Maybe the one who found the phone is honest and will give it back.
when I rang it, went straight to voicemail. this happened all night and into the morning, so eventually I got o2 to block the phone.
I have my replacement sorted now, through my house insurance. (really didnt wanna do that) expensive excess at that! £250!!!
The **** thing about the police, pardon my language is the fact that if handed in I have to check with any police station which it could have been handed in at, there is no centralised lost storage system.
Oh well, you live and learn just hope my phone didnt have as much info as i thought it did!
I might write to HTC see if they can do something via the imei number.
ROM with theft protection.

now if someone would develop an app that could be built into a custom rom that would (unless disabled by a password after a hard reset) transmit a call log, the current sim number, the latitude/longtitude somewhere we'd have a pretty good chance of screwing up any thieve's plans... unless they know how to flash a rom. (although they shouldn't really be aware that this program is activated after a hard reset so they generally wouldn't know to flash the rom...)

Since we all will have different "settings" in the anti theft program there is not going to be a ROM that can include a functional recovery system. I would like someone here to teach us to replace our ROM with our current phone configuration, that way we can add our GPS protection software, configure it and replace the ROM. Is it possible?

well, i've not had time yet to read about creating a custom ROM nor the antitheft software linked in this thread but this is potentially the quickest solution.
but what I was envisaging was some form of registration with a webserver, probably based on serial number. i.e. with the software installed after every hard reset it would (when connected to the net) send the sim number and serial number to this webserver, thus allowing the registered owner to find all the information they need to really start messing with the thief. and from the updates on that anti-theft software thread i've seen there is talk of a webserver i think so this is probably the track they are going down...
unless the thief was to steal your HD2 and then not even use it once for the internet but that would be crazy
