Does anyone know how to ALWAYS make the "ok" hardware button exit any running applications? I basically never want to have to use my thumb to touch the X onscreen to close an app ever again.
By default all Windows Mobile devices leave applications running when you press X. I turned on HTC's Task Manager so that when I clikc the X it exits the app. But even with the HTC task manager setting on, if you use the hardware "ok" button the app is still running in the background.
Is there a way to edit the registry or something to make the hardware "ok" button always EXIT whatever app I'm running??

You can assing Software to the hardwarebuttons by "start - settings - buttons" then choose OK-button and assinge HTC X-Button to it.
Try AEButton Plus (http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php) to connect the button to an "real exit"-Application, like VJok-Button (http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJOkButt)

Have you even TRIED what you're suggesting? This does not work. The HTC exit button program is not in the list, because it's not a normal program, it's like an addition to the windows mobile OS. HTC task manager isn't' a program that stays running. it's a setting, so it ain't in the list.

Indeed - i never uses HTC taskman. I´m using I launcher. But there are 100 programs for closing apps that you can assing to the hardwarebutton. VJ is one of them.
And no. I didn´t try it before posting - because my Terra is dead.
But I wanted to give you the hint that there is a possibility to assing different programs to the OK. button.
lol
And thanks for the explanation of HTC taskmanager...

Hi,
I want to close program (and not just minimize) with the hardware "OK" button. Is it possible?
thanks
Use HTC X-Button for example
Are you sure? I try but I found no option to do this. Just for the "X" button but not for the hardware "ok" button.

Just go to Settings > System > X-Button and choose the Button tab.
Then you can select "End programs by tapping the x":
Should be the same action if you use the hardware or the software button imho...

edit:
ok, just tried and you're right, using the hw-button doesn't close, just minimize....
But i am also using HButton (cannot live without this great tool), with Hbutton mapped to button 3 (that's my ok-button) it's working fine....
And it's also fine with Hbutton: when you're on the todayscreen, the tasklist in the upper right opens by using the ok button....that's very comfortable.
ok but on my device I can't assign action for all these buttons, I just can assign action for the 2 buttons on the right side : camera button and the other one(with 2 fonctions : tape, press&hold)
you are looking in the wrong directon. go to settings>system>task manager, then check -Enable the X button blablabla- checkbox. choose the method and have fun
This is the same that i already told him in my post #4.
His problem is the hardware-button. That was the same "problem" on my device.
Tapping the ok button on the screen closes correct, but using the hardware button just minimizes.
In addition with Hbutton now my hardware-ok button also closes correct.
@nicolaa: I'm using another phone (Artemis), can't you just assing hbuttonX to the needed button ?
It does not matter which Hbutton you're using, you just need to map it to the needed button in wm.
for example/better understanding: you can assign Hbutton5 to Button1 in WM, that's no problem.
sorry, i posted my reply after seeing your first post (you mentioned x-button instead of task manager). alternatively, he can use spb pocket plus plugin, after installing it assignes _close_ action to _ok_ button by default.
actually i see no point in closing apps constantly (which of course in most cases are frequently used ones). is is enogh to periodially close all active programs from memory menu. IMHO.

yep, search the forum for hbutton should be version 2.2 i think, allows you to assign up to 5 functions per button, the nice thing is that if you just want 1 button reassigned it won't screw with your other butons. when you install it i adds the ability to minimize or quit. so it will do exactly what you want. also can be set to vibrate or beep when the button is held down to signify that the second function is being run.
Just for knowledge quick menu 2.7 also allows telling the ok button to close apps.

for me Hbutton is working, just assign "OK/Close" to the OK button, that's it... (it's my 2nd Hbutton recommendation within 2 minutes today )
When you're using HTC Taskmanager with "End programs by tapping X" it's working great with Hbutton. Never tried without HTC's TaskManager

Thanks for the advice! However, will it allow me to tap OK button to minimize then tap and hold to CLOSE? I played with it before but it seemed like when I assigned "OK/Close" to the Ok button, a single tap CLOSED the application. Basically I want the two opptions on one button, and to never have to touch the X button ever again.

You have probably seen a lot of suggestions thus far but this is probably the easiest. HTCTaskManager does exactly what your looking for by default. A press minimizes and a press/hold closes.
Small foot print. Easy to use.

Hi, Im looking for a good and light application, that can switch through the running applications. I used http://vieka.com/vbar.htm but its not working correctly on WM 6.1 anymore.
I searched and found quiet a few, but none matches my need so far.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks.
You could try Dynamo 2. Needs a little fiddling to make it work with wm 6.1 but it can.
Im looking for something uunspectacular...
I tried morttasks, but it is not ok. Just a simple click and hold on the little X in the corner should bring up a menu.
I have a touch diamond, and the HTC task manager is not that bad, but it shows all opened applications only when you are on the homescreen, which is annoying.
Any other SW? Thanks
Ever tried WKTask?

You can modify it (color settings, icons + text, only icons, pc like (like in the picture))
If you DON'T want this, there are other programs, cause this is why i use WKTask
ILauncher has a Taskmanager included... other programs too.
Without searching i don't know other programs which ONLY do taskmanager on X-Tapping.
PS: You can try the Taskmanager from Hinavigator. You don't have to install the today plugin: http://www.ppclink.com/?ppclink=product&do=view&id=64
Fourth video at the bottom. It's completely fingerfriendly and can be activated via gesture.

Yes it is. Quick question however, I use this along with WKTask (love the quickmenu but I also like having a "traditional" taskbar at the top as well) and now I no longer get any icon in the upper right corner when on the today screen. Before installing WK, it used to be a small battery icon up in that corner. ow, it's just and empty space. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I use alttab.exe, its small, light and I've mapped that to an hardware button. It switches between open apps just like when you press alt + tab keys on your windows pc.
Install MortButtons. In it there is a tasklist that pops up and shows icons for running applications. It's also very finger friendly. Search this forum for the latest beta which works very good.

Have you tried to access QuickMenu/Option/View, and then to mark "Show battery on taskbar"?
Yeah, that's what I had it on, but once I installed WK, it went away and now it's just an empty space. Not really a big deal since I have like 5 battery indicators on my Today screen. Just figured i'd ask if any had similiar situation.
Thanks for all your tips, I found out, that vbar - the application I used to use goes now under the name pbar (just search the forum.

Install it to device memory and then soft reset. Now holding the right most button (screen on/off) for about 3 seconds will bring up an action screen where you can toggle many functions as well as soft resetting your device or turning it off.
Works perfectly on the HD2 and I would recommend it

Why not just turn it off and then on again, using the power button?
If your device is so frozen that you can't do that, you'll be unable to access any applications to do it either....surely? Or am I missing something here...

Just press one of the volume buttons on the left side and select "off" or "silent"
I realy dont see the meaning of a link button for a soft reset when you have the "long Power" press button. Its hardware and its responding even when the screen freezes (sometimes ). And overall this "reset links" cannot save you of case removal when the pda is "software dead".

Hi Opal Cooks,
Is it possible to cook a ROM like the HTC HD Mini? The HTC HD Mini ROM is looking like completely customized ROM from HTC. I never felt like it is a Windows Mobile. Everything looks very cool.
I want to have a ROM like this for my Opal, If not is it possible to have individual apps like Contacts, Messages, etc., as in HD mini?
Its possible but the problem is opal doesn't have start button. There is no start button in HTC HD Mini because it has a hardware button.

Yeah possible but which key u would remap ?? there is no key in opal which we can use as start button. If there was buttons like camera button etc we could have done.
So if we remap any current key it will give some kind of bug in a particular app which required the key we remapped. Hope i wasn't confusing

Sorry for my bad english i speak spanish
Maybe this is a good time to ask my question.
Is it possible to get rid of the pause while scrolling down in the start menu. i want it to smooth scroll down all the way to the bottom.
When I asked for HD mini like ROM for Opal, I was not just looking for the Home Screen. In HD mini the whole windows interface was replaced (or may be Covered) by Sense. If you Open Cotacts, the interface looks much like a Sense on any of HTC android phones. Even the Inbox was replaced by HTC messages which looks very nice.
Even if we cannot get the Homescreen with out Start Button (May be it is possible as JoxeeM has shown but Opal has some limitation as Jagan2 said), Is it possible to get that kind of sense interface for the rest of the OS?
I think that we can never come to that: Because
First: Contains 3D drivers but our device also
Second: Because the "HTC messages" only create for device WVGA and other resolutions never QVGA
Third: No one wants change the resolution ...
