Hi, Im looking for a good and light application, that can switch through the running applications. I used http://vieka.com/vbar.htm but its not working correctly on WM 6.1 anymore.
I searched and found quiet a few, but none matches my need so far.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks.
You could try Dynamo 2. Needs a little fiddling to make it work with wm 6.1 but it can.
Im looking for something uunspectacular...
I tried morttasks, but it is not ok. Just a simple click and hold on the little X in the corner should bring up a menu.
I have a touch diamond, and the HTC task manager is not that bad, but it shows all opened applications only when you are on the homescreen, which is annoying.
Any other SW? Thanks
Ever tried WKTask?

You can modify it (color settings, icons + text, only icons, pc like (like in the picture))
If you DON'T want this, there are other programs, cause this is why i use WKTask
ILauncher has a Taskmanager included... other programs too.
Without searching i don't know other programs which ONLY do taskmanager on X-Tapping.
PS: You can try the Taskmanager from Hinavigator. You don't have to install the today plugin: http://www.ppclink.com/?ppclink=product&do=view&id=64
Fourth video at the bottom. It's completely fingerfriendly and can be activated via gesture.
How about QuickMenu 2.7?
BatteryStatus has a great app switcher. Its just like previous one you were using.

Yes it is. Quick question however, I use this along with WKTask (love the quickmenu but I also like having a "traditional" taskbar at the top as well) and now I no longer get any icon in the upper right corner when on the today screen. Before installing WK, it used to be a small battery icon up in that corner. ow, it's just and empty space. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I use alttab.exe, its small, light and I've mapped that to an hardware button. It switches between open apps just like when you press alt + tab keys on your windows pc.
Install MortButtons. In it there is a tasklist that pops up and shows icons for running applications. It's also very finger friendly. Search this forum for the latest beta which works very good.

Have you tried to access QuickMenu/Option/View, and then to mark "Show battery on taskbar"?
Yeah, that's what I had it on, but once I installed WK, it went away and now it's just an empty space. Not really a big deal since I have like 5 battery indicators on my Today screen. Just figured i'd ask if any had similiar situation.
Thanks for all your tips, I found out, that vbar - the application I used to use goes now under the name pbar (just search the forum.
Thanks again!

2nd, I couldn't be happier with it. I also tried dynamo3, it has many more features and shows you screenshots of open programs (like expose or vista)... but last time I tried it, it was still a bit buggy.

Is is possible to have a taskbar, showing which programs are currently running, like in windows xp for example? Having to go to the 'memory' panel and manually closing application from there is getting old...

I recommend the use of SmallMenu Plus (they should start a referral program!).

Task manager and neat launcher in one.
Otherwise, apps like Wisbar and the free variants can show running apps in the taskbar at the top. Depending on how many apps you run, that can be useful.
V
I think he meant WinXP Taskbar showing *running application*.
Anyway, you can do that using .. er.. what's the name.. Wisbar? It is a skining program for your top Start bar, so you can remove all other icons, and put in the option of displaying icons for all running programs.

Well, we have something for that as well and it is free, Magic Button: http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx
But as Vijay showed, Small Menu also has an option of showing and closing apps as well. So it is a matter of preference on the user.
Me, I use both. I use Small Menu to launch apps, and use Magic Button to see what I have running in the background on the taskbar.
Magic button is cooooooooooooooooooooool
I agree - Magic Button is the first thing I install...
Cheers,
Steve.
You can also try a True Toolbar http://www.valksoft.com/TrueToolbar.html
It renders the running apps on the lower bar (toolbar) on the today screen. Actually this is and its disatvantage (to some extend) as if you switch to some app, the today screen is gone and the info for runnign aps as well...
Also for task swithcing you can consider the PQz - this is especially useful if you are using keyboard and also has many usefull features like allowing you to use CTRL, ALT, defining system wide shortcuts, speed dial shortcuts, etc ... here is the link: http://www.nicque.com/PQz/DOC/index_e.htm There is info about this tool on other topics in the forum ...

Hi,
I'm a proud Scoter owner (Mitac Mio A701), so no Universal here. Now as far as UPX, UPX is a compression routine. It is popular at Buzzdev.net. The concept behind it is great, it allows compressed code to be executed directly w/o the need for an external decompression routine, it is incorporated into each file. This has 2 good effects. the first, is that the files are smaller, the second is that since the DOC is slooow, the CPU can load and decompress a UPX'd file faster than loading up an uncompressed file. Buzz and others know quite a bit more than myself on the subject.

Jason

Does anyone know of a program that allows you to skin the Taskbar? I have tried using Wisbar, but it uses too much memory and bogs down my system.
It would be great if there was a quicker program that used less memory. And I don't care about the other features Wisbar has, I just want to skin the Taskbar and the Start menu button.
I guess not!

But it is the skinning that uses the memory and slows down the device.
None of the other features of Wisbar Advance 2 are memory-intensive at all.
Any application that skins your device will be a memory hog, period.
By taskbar, you mean the top bar right?
One kinda solution that isn't cpu intensive is to use my VJToggleToday II app (in alpha release right now though) to replace the start bar.

Dude, that looks ****ing sweet; I have been waiting with great anticipation for it ever since I first heard about it!
Is it skinnable?
VJToggleToday merely shifts the Today Screen, allowing you to show your today plugins through - so I'm using my PhoneAlarm skin at the top of the screen to adjunct the start bar.
I haven't worked on VJEphemeris or VJSihaya (the more 'evolved' version of the idea) for months - I wrote them both as a proof of concept idea, but since then I've decided to put off further development until I feel competent to tackle all of the things I want to put into it. Both are evidently (overly) skinnable.
I've been working on a new app for a while, it's completely innocent, just a simple text editor, but it's a testbed for features that I'm going to be using in my new apps (ie a new skinning engine and GUI). That's (realistically) coming soon.
V
vijay555... what other apps do you use on your today screen? The bottom half looks like you havea last call and last email displaying on your today, correct?
itesla: that's an old plugin I wrote once, but it's not been released yet. It's called VJEphemeris. I'm taking a break from it while I learn some new stuff, so that I can add the new features I want to it.
It does show missed calls and previews received SMSs etc. There are many hidden popup menus etc, but as I said, that'll all change in the final version, if and when I get around to finishing it!
V
Hey Vijay, I have been using your ToggleToday program in conjunction with PhoneAlarm. I really like it, but there are a couple things that I miss: the clock, and the OK button.
I was wondering, would it be possible for me to use one of those third-party button programs like MagicButton or vBar, and then move over the signal status?
For the clock, I wasn't sure if there was any possible solution, unless PhoneAlarm has a feature that allows you to display it.
I believe PhoneAlarm has a clock feature built in now, you can certainly edit the skin to include one.
I never use the ok button in the corner, I use VJOkButt 100% of the time, and that's compatible with 3rd party task managers that use the ok button.
I don't quite understand about "move over the signal status". How do you mean?
Something to consider, which I have't tried but should work, is to use a phonealarm skin with transparency - if you leave a gap in your phone alarm skin, where the original clock is - you might be able to allow the original "start bar" to shine through the gap...
But anyway, PhoneAlarm does have a clock feature, I believe.

My phone company, 3, have just released these finally in Oz and am heading out to get one tomorrow.
Now is the best time to ask everyone what are their favourite programs they have installed on the Trinity? Saves me searching around forever....
I need one that closes all programs totally (so they dont continue to run in the background), switches what hard buttons do (unless you can do that automatically), plus whatever else people think i need......
I thought this would be a good thread for all newbies and others who want to know what are the best ways to pimp up their Trinity.
thanks

You can stop all running programs from Start button->Settings->System->Memory.
Also the new ROM i got has an option somewhere with the ability to change the behaviour on the closebutton.. It says HTC menu util or something similar.
Get magicbutton (for the task closing), its free and works fine....

It's under START->Settings->System->Task Manager.
It has 2 options;
1) End programs by tapping X
2) End programs by taping and holding X
MagicButton sucks pretty hard, the last version has some issues with the telephone application (it doesnt close it).
The most kick ass application you'll ever get for your trin is this one:
Spb Mobile Shell: This a pretty good application that enhance your today screen with tabbed menus and give you alot of nice features like enhanced menus, task manager and alot of other cool features.

thanks for that. what are the programs down the bottom where you can have all the shortcuts on the today page? The one with the tabs for Big,Apps, Car,etc plus the little icons below that....... same program?
That is my only shortfall of this beautiful phone- the lack of shortcuts i can program.
Matterhorn, it looks like you would benefit in battery time and also speed, by using the option to properly close your apps rather than minimise them when pressing the X button. I am judging this by all the apps that appear to be open in the bottom of your today screen.

The apps at the bottom of the screen are all just shortcuts, they aren't running. The program iLauncher allows you to make shortcuts at the bottom of the today screen. These are the apps that I use very often and don't want look for them. The other groups of shortcuts "Big", "Apps" etc. are also part of iLauncher and I make the icons big so I can use my fingers to launch the apps. I have iLauncher programmed to close some apps with the X while other programs are not allowed to be closed with the X, such as Messaging, Mortplayer, IE etc. I use the "close all" option when I really want a clean system. Believe me, I don't let apps run unless I need them running .

It is a bit tricky because when you have items in your calendar plug-in it moves the whole today screen up and down. That is why I use TodayAgenda instead, it is an app that allows you to set the length of your Task and Calendar list. This way you only scroll within TodayAgenda and not the whole screen. This makes it possible to make the iLauncher stay at the bottom. You just have to set iLauncher to manual height and experiment until you get the proper height for your today screen.
I hope that helps

Bug feedback
Hi,
I'm using the Wireless Today Switch, which I think is fantastic, so thank you for the effort that went into making it. I have disabled the background by removing the line in the xml and the background png. I think it is line three. Anyway, one think I have noticed is that when you press and hold the phone button, whether the phone is on or not, the bottom option in the context menu is always "Turn off phone". The functionality works, i.e. it does switch the phone on when it's off, but the text is wrong. I'll have a look at it later myself but do you know an easy solution to this? I'll post the no background edit with a screen shot later today.
Cheers,

iPhone Theme/No WiFi (Perfect for HTC Touch)
Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread, but this seemed as appropriate a place as any to post this.
Though skinning and such is not my usual forte, I put enough work into this that it's only fair to share. This app was exactly what I was looking for when I decided I wanted a bluetooth on/off switch on my today screen... but, I really wanted it to match my iPhone icons. The result is attached. I've eliminated the wifi toggle since my HTC Touch has no wifi.

I have tried some times ago, but with no luck!
ope someone could make it work!
I read somewhere that it's (nearly) impossible to do it, the script that's responsible for the hexagon layout is hidden in a DLL.
As far as I know, a reasonable compromise is if you use the folderview.exe from HTC (it's usually there if touchflo is installed).

I like the idea. It will be better if the start menu can organize by page so that same catagory of apps can group together...
i think it would be easier if it is possible, pushing the start button to open up a new program with shortcuts, similar to that. Correct me if i m wrong.
hi, i like that Start menu Grid. I'm using HTC imagio and that Start menu is in my ship rom but when i flashed a customed rom, there isnt that start menu grid anymore. Hope someone can improve that
+1
I like that idea, in fact I was asking about it in HD2 section - but no luck
I also tried to modify the .crp but no luck either.
Would be really nice to have it!
still no one ?...
I really hope a developer sees this. We see allot of start menu modifications like lists. But i havent seen this normal grid menu!
Until it's developped (if so) you all can use "iPhone Today" instead. Also it's faster/smoother than WM Startmenu.
Also, some way to scroll horizontally
I was thinking of the same idea... and with the ability to scroll horizontally...this would exactly look like the iPhone...
If this can be worked out by some expert chef.... we won't need any application to give it a iPhone like feel.....
Also, i think the earlier ROM's had horizontally aligned programs.... so its not new... just that it needs to be implemented in newer ROMs.
I am very much interested in this .....
It will be good if it can catagorize the pages (with header). With that we choose to remove the sense to save ~30m of memory.
Bump, anyone?
Definately interested in this. What I think would be better is a sense version of the start menu to totally hide the win mo look. It should look just like the program screen when you tap on a quick link to choose an ap from the program screen. Cookie should feature a cookie start menu into cookies home tab 1.81
