My phone company, 3, have just released these finally in Oz and am heading out to get one tomorrow.
Now is the best time to ask everyone what are their favourite programs they have installed on the Trinity? Saves me searching around forever....
I need one that closes all programs totally (so they dont continue to run in the background), switches what hard buttons do (unless you can do that automatically), plus whatever else people think i need......
I thought this would be a good thread for all newbies and others who want to know what are the best ways to pimp up their Trinity.
thanks
Scott
You can stop all running programs from Start button->Settings->System->Memory.
Also the new ROM i got has an option somewhere with the ability to change the behaviour on the closebutton.. It says HTC menu util or something similar.
Get magicbutton (for the task closing), its free and works fine....

It's under START->Settings->System->Task Manager.
It has 2 options;
1) End programs by tapping X
2) End programs by taping and holding X
MagicButton sucks pretty hard, the last version has some issues with the telephone application (it doesnt close it).
The most kick ass application you'll ever get for your trin is this one:
Spb Mobile Shell: This a pretty good application that enhance your today screen with tabbed menus and give you alot of nice features like enhanced menus, task manager and alot of other cool features.

My 2 cents
Thank you for the attention.

Resco File Explorer
Photo Contacts Pro
Pocket Weather (SBSH)
Today Agenda
Device Lock
Pocket Rar
TomTom Navigator 6
Skype
iMov Messenger
Check Notifications
SoftKey
That should keep you busy .
thanks for that. what are the programs down the bottom where you can have all the shortcuts on the today page? The one with the tabs for Big,Apps, Car,etc plus the little icons below that....... same program?
That is my only shortfall of this beautiful phone- the lack of shortcuts i can program.
Matterhorn, it looks like you would benefit in battery time and also speed, by using the option to properly close your apps rather than minimise them when pressing the X button. I am judging this by all the apps that appear to be open in the bottom of your today screen.

The apps at the bottom of the screen are all just shortcuts, they aren't running. The program iLauncher allows you to make shortcuts at the bottom of the today screen. These are the apps that I use very often and don't want look for them. The other groups of shortcuts "Big", "Apps" etc. are also part of iLauncher and I make the icons big so I can use my fingers to launch the apps. I have iLauncher programmed to close some apps with the X while other programs are not allowed to be closed with the X, such as Messaging, Mortplayer, IE etc. I use the "close all" option when I really want a clean system. Believe me, I don't let apps run unless I need them running .
how do you make it so the ilauncher bar is all the way down the bottom of the screen? mine sits about halfway up....
Montalbert,
Go to start>settings>today>items select program shown and select move up or down!

It is a bit tricky because when you have items in your calendar plug-in it moves the whole today screen up and down. That is why I use TodayAgenda instead, it is an app that allows you to set the length of your Task and Calendar list. This way you only scroll within TodayAgenda and not the whole screen. This makes it possible to make the iLauncher stay at the bottom. You just have to set iLauncher to manual height and experiment until you get the proper height for your today screen.
I hope that helps

Does anyone know of a program that allows you to skin the Taskbar? I have tried using Wisbar, but it uses too much memory and bogs down my system.
It would be great if there was a quicker program that used less memory. And I don't care about the other features Wisbar has, I just want to skin the Taskbar and the Start menu button.
I guess not!

But it is the skinning that uses the memory and slows down the device.
None of the other features of Wisbar Advance 2 are memory-intensive at all.
Any application that skins your device will be a memory hog, period.
By taskbar, you mean the top bar right?
One kinda solution that isn't cpu intensive is to use my VJToggleToday II app (in alpha release right now though) to replace the start bar.

Dude, that looks ****ing sweet; I have been waiting with great anticipation for it ever since I first heard about it!
Is it skinnable?
VJToggleToday merely shifts the Today Screen, allowing you to show your today plugins through - so I'm using my PhoneAlarm skin at the top of the screen to adjunct the start bar.
I haven't worked on VJEphemeris or VJSihaya (the more 'evolved' version of the idea) for months - I wrote them both as a proof of concept idea, but since then I've decided to put off further development until I feel competent to tackle all of the things I want to put into it. Both are evidently (overly) skinnable.
I've been working on a new app for a while, it's completely innocent, just a simple text editor, but it's a testbed for features that I'm going to be using in my new apps (ie a new skinning engine and GUI). That's (realistically) coming soon.
V
vijay555... what other apps do you use on your today screen? The bottom half looks like you havea last call and last email displaying on your today, correct?
itesla: that's an old plugin I wrote once, but it's not been released yet. It's called VJEphemeris. I'm taking a break from it while I learn some new stuff, so that I can add the new features I want to it.
It does show missed calls and previews received SMSs etc. There are many hidden popup menus etc, but as I said, that'll all change in the final version, if and when I get around to finishing it!
V
Hey Vijay, I have been using your ToggleToday program in conjunction with PhoneAlarm. I really like it, but there are a couple things that I miss: the clock, and the OK button.
I was wondering, would it be possible for me to use one of those third-party button programs like MagicButton or vBar, and then move over the signal status?
For the clock, I wasn't sure if there was any possible solution, unless PhoneAlarm has a feature that allows you to display it.
I believe PhoneAlarm has a clock feature built in now, you can certainly edit the skin to include one.
I never use the ok button in the corner, I use VJOkButt 100% of the time, and that's compatible with 3rd party task managers that use the ok button.
I don't quite understand about "move over the signal status". How do you mean?
Something to consider, which I have't tried but should work, is to use a phonealarm skin with transparency - if you leave a gap in your phone alarm skin, where the original clock is - you might be able to allow the original "start bar" to shine through the gap...
But anyway, PhoneAlarm does have a clock feature, I believe.

put it in startup folder
pro:
- nice interface good scrolling e clear view
- nice the real clock with second even if it could be not so readable in day light (in the "action" menù it should be visible a digital clock or a more readable analogic clock)
con/desiderata:
- too many icon to scroll (all the apps and the settings) may be better if you can minimize the program and the setting list in vertical folders.
- nice interface it would be great if with a 2.0 release, dial, contact and messaging are integrated.
- with trinity and lasagna WM6 3.05 some problem with activesync, dunno if the same with other device/OS.
- does'nt display battery charging and sincronizing
- lack of usefull shortcut (music player, weather, or favorites call number)
- some problem with lanscaper/portrait switching
- no theme selection capabilities
- it could be great if you can choose from vertical or orizzontal kind of scrolling apps and setting (imo the orizzontal scrolling (like a book way) its quite bit more natural)
- check the sms/email/mms behaviour of the interface when system is Locked; When receive an sms or a mail the screen, should be locked even with the notify displayed if you want to interact you should unlock screen.
This is Quality Application! Makes my Touch look more like a mobile... kewl...
I agree with Dodba : this software needs a GUI messaging and calls.

This is a nice app I like the look of it. This is a trial version though a license cost 19.95.
Has anyone tried to Skin this?
I've located the skin files on the install directory, but had no success.
They are .bmp but I can't seem to open them or edit.
Nice app.
Is it skinnable? Any htc touch screen?
I think this is a great start and hopefully it continues to see updates because right now it works well, but a little more customization and organization would be nice. Having just every single program and setting link roped into one giant long page that takes 3 minutes to scroll down just isn't for me right now. I imagine if a version 2 is released that addresses the ability to organize it better i'd be all over that for 19.99
well.. skin masters!.... a htc touch skin for this??
The Time/Lock Screen must also show the next appointment. Then it would be perfect.

with you there!
Also a weather app would be nice!. not sure wether there is one or not but a slide to lock as well as unlock would be great! another thing that would be nice is a bounce back back to the top of the screen after a predefined time five seconds perhaps?
ouch! slows down horribly when running htc audio manager in the background! thats on my vario 2 with four programs in total running (including phone which it wont turn off!?) and with 8 meg of program memory spare and 11meg of storage mem on the phone.
Yes wecan skin it !
Just have to edit shell.bmp in photoshop (the other bmp file is for the about page) and save it in the same format. fushia color is for the transparency.
Only one default when changing backround to white to grey (for example) there is no icon transparency It's so ugly...
May attempt to have official skin or a pro
Its the same editing for Vito FunContact.
Some stuff are missing:
- What to do
- Calendar
- Weather
but it's a good start, keep working
Battery
I just LOVE this application...
BUT: it's a real battery-eater !
Cheers

I like it, but the lock feature isnt very usefull. When device is put to sleep with the powerbutton... screen is off
July 7, 2008 - VITO Technology releases Winterface - a major breakthrough in the world of Windows Mobile interface. Winterface is the Next Generation Shell for Windows Mobile comprising the options of a launcher, a task manager, and a multitude of Today plug-ins. Winterface gives the user unprecedented freedom to easily lay out interface exactly the way they like it.

}
As a shell Winterface removes the necessity to turn to default Windows Mobile interface: Today screen and Start menu. Winterface opens instantly whenever users draw a simple gesture on the screen. It allows users to have as many screens as they need and put on them icons for applications, settings and contacts. The screens are flipped through with sliding finger gestures. The icons for such applications as phone, sms, email, battery, clock, calendar, memory, etc. - all show relevant information and thus replace a number of Today plug-ins.
Pros:
- it is vast and very sensitive
Cons:
- just another iphone ripoff
- it is just several pages of buttons, nothing more. No reason to use it.
- it looks ugly when compared with other products like PointUI or SPB MS 2
Conclusion:
It is waste of time.

Yes software is too simple and not today plugin ( No clock, no singnal, no battery...no.....) . Ones is here have onlied in screenlock but also obscurely exept clock it be visibility .
Maby they released it quickly before iSwish is released.
Nothing special here move along..hehe
Thanks, I like it.
Well... It has some problems.
- The program launches by adding a finger-gesture to the os. The gesture is a curved swipe from left to right.
This worked well with my right thumb. Too well perhaps, becouse it works everywhere.
Like in googlemaps and opera mini. It pops up the winterface every-friggin-time you pan to left.
- You can't turn off the "slide-to-unlock" feature. Which is insane. Why do i need it in a device that has a power button that already locks-up the buttons.
- There is no "settings" menu. No customization, no nothing.
- It seems that it drained my battery over night. Had a nice tone of "battery depleted" to wake up to, this morning.
- I added a bunch of contacts to the menu. Then i realized that i would physically have to drag every single one to a screen that is 3 slides away.
In my opinion. This is not a finished product.
i agree that the software is unfinished product, it shouldn't be 1.0 version, i suggest this should be 0.1 version
1. no setting, and battery, time, etc which should be on the top of screen, now they are taking place of the first page (or if you want to go to second page find out what's battery situation?)
2. the screen lock stopping music play, when i press the power button, it should just screen off, but the winterface make the phone off, even during my phone call, when i press power button, i cannot hear other side,(i guess they won't hear me either)
3. the screen lock freeze the screen, the slide button may stay in the middle of the bar, and i have no choice but reset my phone.---how stupid! how dare they put 1.0 on the version?
after 1 day surf, i just have no choice but uninstall it.
lock screen
if the lock screen gets stuck in the middle just go to your normal task manager and end the program. the swipe your finger to restart it and it should be fine again.
Wow. I'm almost to the end of the trial period and I've had almost none of the problems listed here on my Tilt. Except, of course, for the left-right swipe which is VERY irritating when using Opera. But, I've never had it affect music or calls. As far as the power indicator, there is a bug when you first load it in, but I went to Settings on the menu and added the Power option. Now, there's a power indicator. Granted, it's only on the first screen.
My only other gripe is that not all of the applications on my phone are on the application list and, therefore, I can't make an icon for it. That kind of sucks since it makes a program like MoNotes useless.
Other than that, I thought it was really solid and prefer it to Pointui or Mobile Shell. BUT, I use other Vito software, so it's more geared to my phone anyway.
It was fun to play with for about 3 minutes! then I uninstalled it as there is no comparison to Spb MS....
same here...loaded and used shortly. has potential, but lacks customization. also, does not support 5 way navigation - touch only. didn't like that. unistalled as well.
Thank gawd it's no comparison to PointUI --- I can't stand that thing. I like a simple interface that lets me start programs, close programs and tells me what time it is. I don't need spinning menus and cubes and suns and moons, etc...
Curious though, what is 5 way navigation -- I only have touch on my phone so maybe that's what I don't know? lol
it could have been a very nice thing - 3 years ago
but i think it's really not interesting now
I tried it and now I love it.
Whatever I need is there (time/date with links to alarm clock/calendar, programs shortcuts, task management, quick dial for contacts). Moreover It's really responsive and lighter on memory than both PointUI and SPB Shell.
I must say, however, that it has also some small annoyances:
the "too much common" startup gesture for example.
Winterface is not perfect but IMHO a very good option as a shell replacement.
any one have problem with battery drain?
vito icons
here are the ones in currently using.i also found out if you have pictures set, the boarder around the pictures will mess with the pictures. so if you have pictures set on winterface just keep that in mind. i dont have pictures set for contacts so it doesn't bother me.
Download link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?cyfztycc0de\
put these two files in Program files/vito/winterface/skin/bin
and if you have it on your storage card just go to your storage card first.
Then you just close and restart winterface. Both the first pics i posted and the s2u button are included in the download.

Hi, Im looking for a good and light application, that can switch through the running applications. I used http://vieka.com/vbar.htm but its not working correctly on WM 6.1 anymore.
I searched and found quiet a few, but none matches my need so far.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks.
You could try Dynamo 2. Needs a little fiddling to make it work with wm 6.1 but it can.
Im looking for something uunspectacular...
I tried morttasks, but it is not ok. Just a simple click and hold on the little X in the corner should bring up a menu.
I have a touch diamond, and the HTC task manager is not that bad, but it shows all opened applications only when you are on the homescreen, which is annoying.
Any other SW? Thanks
Ever tried WKTask?

You can modify it (color settings, icons + text, only icons, pc like (like in the picture))
If you DON'T want this, there are other programs, cause this is why i use WKTask
ILauncher has a Taskmanager included... other programs too.
Without searching i don't know other programs which ONLY do taskmanager on X-Tapping.
PS: You can try the Taskmanager from Hinavigator. You don't have to install the today plugin: http://www.ppclink.com/?ppclink=product&do=view&id=64

Yes it is. Quick question however, I use this along with WKTask (love the quickmenu but I also like having a "traditional" taskbar at the top as well) and now I no longer get any icon in the upper right corner when on the today screen. Before installing WK, it used to be a small battery icon up in that corner. ow, it's just and empty space. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I use alttab.exe, its small, light and I've mapped that to an hardware button. It switches between open apps just like when you press alt + tab keys on your windows pc.
Install MortButtons. In it there is a tasklist that pops up and shows icons for running applications. It's also very finger friendly. Search this forum for the latest beta which works very good.

Have you tried to access QuickMenu/Option/View, and then to mark "Show battery on taskbar"?
Yeah, that's what I had it on, but once I installed WK, it went away and now it's just an empty space. Not really a big deal since I have like 5 battery indicators on my Today screen. Just figured i'd ask if any had similiar situation.
Thanks for all your tips, I found out, that vbar - the application I used to use goes now under the name pbar (just search the forum.
Thanks again!

2nd, I couldn't be happier with it. I also tried dynamo3, it has many more features and shows you screenshots of open programs (like expose or vista)... but last time I tried it, it was still a bit buggy.
Hi!
I'm a longtime lurker, ever since I got my Touch HD when it first came out and I NEEDED to have an english rom instead of a dutch one. Thanks to this place, my phone runs exactly how I want it to (most of the time ).
Except for a decent app launcher. I HATE the win6/6.1 scrollist ones, allthough the startmenu after that sucked a little less. I liked the yotacenter launcher, but in the end I just ran out of space and had to hit the "all apps" button too often and scroll through a huge list.
So I wrote my own in c# under .net 3.5.
And, seeing as I got all my tweaks and fixes from you guys, I thought I should give something back; in essence a quick and dirty app launcher which does exactly what I want: organise the programs I use the most.
It's a catagory per page, has menu, contextmenu and top-scroll-bar driven UI and you can add your own background:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I wrote it to be as device independant as I knew how, but I've really only tested it on my Touch HD1, so I'm really curious as to how it runs "in the wild" (or even on any other HD ). To save some effort, I've just packaged the .exe, which should run from any location. If it doesn't, \Program Files\AppGrouper\ should do it.
It should come with a default background and an icon...for this initial release [call it a beta] I didn't create a cab, so you'll have to copy/edit an existing .lnk file to get the program to show up in the windows\startmenu\ .lnk files so you can use a launcher to launch my launcher (yeah, I get the irony ), or just start the app from the exe.
Anyway, as I said this is the first application I'm releasing to the public, so please give me some feedback I have no idea what "unknown unknowns" this app'll run into on different machines than my emulator and my own Touch HD. The only deletion the program can do is to a specifically named .xml file it generates itself, so it should be safe enough
PS: as I was entering the tags to this post, I realised that this type of software could have been made and released many times: I've only used MS's launcher and the yotacenter one, so any ideas and/or other similarities to other launchers is coincidence and a case of simultanious devellopment (or in my case, retarded devellopment ). Again, any feedback is appreciated, from bugs to implementation to "you've totally ripped off x!". 'Cause I didn't, but I'd like to know about x
Anyway, I hope someone can use this!
Nice apps. The Title Folder box ought be longer to fit the text
Hehe
Ok, so I guess I'll have to set up an auto resize routine for the textsize and the textbox ... check back in a day or two
BTW, what device did you use this on? I'm curious to know if the program works correctly on devices other than touch hd's, too.

Thanks for sharing!
I think mortbutton can do better than this
Ok app. thanks for sharing
By default can you pick up start menu and folder under it as group?
Else I think mortbutton can do far better job than your program. + .netcf 3.5 requirment
Thanks for sharing it. Few things I noticed
while trying to add an to a folder a drop down menu reveal 3 options - the first one is to add an app, what is the second one? it is blank on my tp2?
after running an app it stays in memory. is this how you designed it? i would prefer if it closed after running an app
finally, can you list here launchers that you came across that are standalone apps, meaning they do not sit in memory or eat CPU. i am looking for something like that with folders/tabs like yours and self-close after use.
thanks for sharing. i have one single question. i have installed it on my herald, but i cannot add more then one app to a group. am i missing something?
Sweet launcher! Thank U
I like your application!
As being an anti manila user Until now I was addicted to Program Finder plugin (attached) running on the Today Screen. Unfortunately the Today Screen does not have the SIP toggle in the bottom bar plus sometimes the Today Screen needs a refresh, due to Program Finder being an very old program; its messing up the Today Screen.
Therefore I searched the whole internet and finally after searching for 1 year I found [attachment]ToggleInputPanel.exe[attachment]. I'm executing programs via icons by running Easy Today Launcher.
Your application is a welcome alternative, thanx again! o/~
