With such complexities of being a world phone and pocket pc and all... there's no way to use these as a standard FM radio? Are there hacks available for this or is it impossible given the Hermes/TyTN hardware?
I'd guess it would need some tuner hardware.
I know its not what you want, but Resco Radio has a bunch of internet stations to listen too. Maybe you could look if the stations you are interested in have live streaming and use that link in Resco Radio? Not exactly sure but it may work...

I have Resco Radio. But that streams via the internet. I guess our devices can't pickup FM airwaves? Which seems kind of odd I think.

Really? I have a laptop and it can't pick up radio. Thought that was quite normal for a device which doesn't have an FM receiver built in....
I've done a little search and I found this:
http://www.seeo2.com/product/XdaAtom/template/XdaAtomApplications.vm/n/exclusive
Since O2 can have "exclusive applications" for a pocketpc-phone like the XDA atom (which does NOT have an FM tuner hardware inside), does anybody know how we can "get hold" of something like this for our Hermes?

Our built-in radio must be able to pick up FM radio frequencies... I think it's just a hack that we need to find.
The Hermes does not have an FM receiver. Do a search and you'll find many people have asked the same question and gotten the same answer. Sorry to disappoint you.

Sorry to rain on your parade but the documentation I've been able to find about the Atom says that it does contain FM radio hardware.
It _has_ to. It wouldn't work otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I wish I could turn my hermes into a HTC Kaiser with added FM Radio just by installing some bit of software and holding down certain keys while resetting it but the real world doesn't work that way. There's a reason why 'transformers' is fiction and not fact and there's a reason why you can't actually send your children to Hogwarts to learn how to be magicians.

i dunno about that a transformer blew up in NY yesterday LMAO
I stand corrected about the XDA atom specs.... The page I initially saw with the atom's specs, didnt mention it... I then found another one saying it has FM Radio capabilities... Oh well.....
I don't know much about radios and frequencies (clearly). I just figured that if the phone is able to pick up these GSM/Edge/UTMS... etc.. frequencies/spectrums then perhaps there's an off chance it could pick up an FM frequency which I'd imagine is pretty standard. Ah well.
The TyTn can pick up close range radio signals for example when you use bluetooth. However it has no tuner to select broadcast radio frequencies. In addition it has no aerial suitable for effectively picking up radio stations. Many phones that have FM radio built in, only work when you plug in the headphones. This is because the headphone cable acts as the aerial. The TyTn does not have it's circuitry set up to use the headphone cable as an aerial.
So even if you could somehow use software to tune signals using the bluetooth aerial, this aerial is not nearly big enough to pick up FM radio stations. So, no suitable software and inadequate hardware to make it work. Streaming radio is the only option.

I've seen a number of threads that seem to deal with the subject of "headphones" and "headsets" and finding an all-in-one solution, but I couldn't seem to find one where the solution allowed a user to use any 3rd party stereo headphones and answer the phone without switching to a mic enabled headset (like using this adapter with two sets plugged in, one headset and one stereo headphone: http://www.expansys-usa.com/zoompic.asp?type=item&code=104840

Or does anyone know of a stereo headset that is of decent quality for listening to hi-fidelity music (I don't own a pair of the default but I can only presume the quality is adequate but not great, and the buds don't look that comfortable for long term music listening):
http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=108738
the best option is to take the standard xdaII headset and about 4cm after the mic/control bit between it and the headphones , cut and fit a a normal headphone socket, this allows you to use any headphones and still have full headset functions ,
thanks
ian
Well that's definitely an option... (sure wouldn't want to do that to an expense pair of headphones, but it is an option).
It's hard to believe that in this age of convergence there isn't a decent headset that's designed for audio playback too.
Thanks for the idea, indeed I think I saw a number of "slice and splice" comments in some of the other threads, I just wouldn't want to find myself ruining a good pair of headphones trying to expose the thin wires and join them back up. I guess I'll need to stop thinking of it as an MP3 player and wait until I get the Archos AV420! ;-)
You're quite right with regard to the headphones not being very comfortable and I too was searching for a solution to this very problem until I turned the problem on it's head and came up with another solution...
I popped into my local Maplin's shop and bought a pair of foam earphone pads, put them over the supplied earphones and they are infinitely more comfortable and also stay in place. The audio reproduction on them is actually quite good.
Give that a try.
I decided to replace the ear phones and connect my Sonys to the stock switch/mic dongle.
Having removed the old ones successfuly and cut up my fantastic Sony ear buds I can't get it to solder as the wires are varnished. I have tried all sorts of ways to remove the varnish without success - including nail varnish remover.
Any ideas anyone?
Fire!!!
I was able to remove the varnish by briefly putting a flame to it. Then gently scraping the filamints with my finger nails.
Good luck.
Josh
Thanks, I tried that with limited success.
I'll give it another go.
hmm, maybe I've been overlooking an obvious solution (or am I missing something?), but wouldn't a headphone/mic combo like this: http://www.cooltechzone.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=574&Itemid=0
..in conjunction with the adapter I listed earlier ( http://www.expansys-usa.com/zoompic.asp?type=item&code=104840),
..do what I'm looking for? It sure seems like it is the answer, and I now realize there are a LOT of these headphone/mic combos out there at all different price levels! I'm going to order the adapter and maybe one of the Altec Lansing sets, I'll let you all know how it goes.
hi all, I use these
Bluetooth headset their true stereo and can play many types of music formats + voice commands for dialling + i can stream music to them + use them to chat while using Microsoft portrait, But they are not cheap, i first bought them to use with my spv c200 did a good job on them having same good luck on my M1000. here,s a link to the site where i got them
http://www.sonorix.com/~tven/eng/product/product_bap.php
Do these work with xda 2 for mp3 and voice dialling?
yes they do m8 i use them myself, on my M1000 ( which is the same as the xda2) mp3 sound brill on them I have a Bang&Olufsen 5.1 surround system ( which cost me £2.799 ) in my home here, and these headset come very close to completing with them. these headset are the creame da la creame of all headsets. Highly recomended worth every penny i paid for them which was about $263.00 dollors + import taxes which was £57 bucks
Here's a thread that has some additional info and reviews regarding adapters and the like, perhaps this info could be placed elsewhere in the forum, but this seemed relevant to this thread:

Spoke with an engineer at Qualcomm who makes most of the 911 GPS devices for the phones. They did say that there is a way to access it and use it with consumer GPS programs. However they said it was a secret and they couldn't say how. They did however say that each provider disables it in their own way. At least I know it's possible now.

What do you want to tell us? That the Wizard has a built in GPS? Did you read the Spec of TI's OMAP CPU and seen that there is a GPS block?
I suppose that the developers have omit the antenna. Without antenna no GPS signal and therefore nothing to compute.
"I want to believe" says Agent Mulders Poster in his room in the FBI HQ...
I don't believe in this "emergency GPS" in all Handys. It's like beeing catched by Aliens...
A Phone can be located over the GSM network by looking at the radio station it's connected to.
The e911 gps feature is real. It provides more accurate locations for cellphone calls than triangulation so I read. Besides why would an engineer at Qualcomm lie? We talked in as much detail as we could.

No I haven't read that, could you post a link? I am new to the MDA.
in the service manual i can't see anything that looks like a GPS chip or something, and btw, i think it would cost to much battery power!
I have absolutely no idea about the picture I am going to post a link to, but have a look.
Look at the upper right corner next to the IRDA bit.
Could there be truth to this thread???

lutz,
the e911 gps chip isn't "always-on"
it on only activated with a user dials 911....there has been a porven hack that enables this by a user re-programming their phone to think that 922 is 911 and thereby dialing 911 would enable the GPS coordinants displayng htem on the phone.
*edit*
A quick google search shows this:
http://www.cellphonehacks.com/viewtopic.php?t=25480&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30
Also just in case this site smashes that site I'm attaching the PDF's to the forums first 3 pages (at the time that was all the pages)
ok there maybe is a AGPS like feature in the second thread mentioned. but in the wizard there is not such thing. the picture in the first thread is only a architecture overview.

Qualcomm makes GPS for CDMA and EVDO handhelds, NOT GSM phones. The GSM network uses triangulation for positioning. The engineer was full of donkey doodoo.
There IS NO GPS hardware in the Wizard.
i did a registry tweak to my mda that enables settings for gps in the connection settings. so i know there is gps software on the wizard. why would tmobile have that on there if there isnt any gps hardware??
Could you say what the registry name / value is?
TBH, I know I posted the block diagram link, but as I don't understand those things.................
I can't see the wizard having a gps part as surely with the increase in
sat-nav consumers, it would have been an extremely positive selling point.
It's like selling an old jacket on e-bay and not mentioning the stash of cash in the pockets!!
the GPS setting in the connections menu is for controlling an external (bluetooth) GPS. This feature is new and on every WM5 Device ; )
This diagram only shows what is capable with the OMP850 processor, this wil not say that it’s in our Wizzard.
If you look into the service manual posted in another thread you will see that there is no internal antenna for a GPS receiver.
So the GPS hardware isn’t onboard the Wizzard.
If you look closer to the diagram you can even see more functions of the Omap850.
WLAN A/B/G
Serial port
U-wire port for a secondary display
Except for WLAN B/G the rest isn’t in our Wizzard.
Cheers,
Drifter

I have never seen this, could you explain some more please?
And looking at that picture ends me back to another thread I startedon here regarding whether or not the miniSD slot is SDIO enabled.
take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=260882
On my ipaq hx2110 the menu was default on, but on the wizard you must enable it.
Hi Jerry,
The picture you see is what is capable with the chip made by Texas Instruments.
But the designers of the HTC Wizzard haven’t used all the properties of the OMPA850 processor so there are a lot of extra’s who aren’t used.
This is also the case with the GPS receiver witch can be used on board of the Wizzard but it isn’t by design.
The Chip can handle SDIO but if the designer disables it software wise or use on interface connected to the Chip that isn’t SDIO capable then it isn’t there.
I can give you an example.
Years ago I had a VCR but I couldn’t buy the one I would have so I bought a cheaper one in the same series.
Mechanical it was the same but there where a few switches let then the one I had in mind.
After opening the cover there where on the PCB board holes where there used to be switches for the more expensive one.
After some DIY I discovered that only the switch was missing but not the software in the VCR itself.
So I had the more expensive one for less money.
Cheers,
Drifter

found a bluetooth car stereo (Sony MEX-BT2500)
basically it can stream music and take calls over the car speakers from your vario.
i also use tomtom and wanted to know how many bluetooth connections the vario can handle at once.
thanks
At least two. As I can use my BT gps for TomTom & use a BT earpiece for making a call at the same time. I even don't notice a hickup in the gps connection after I disconnect the call, which always happened with my Magician.

I have the MEX-BT5000 It can stream A2DP and at the same time be used for calls without any problems.
You ROM might not have the optimum stuff for A2DP as this has been known to be buggy as hell. What ROM are you running?
rom version = 1.21.110.3
You would benefit from updating to one of the WM6 cooked ROMs, the A2DP drivers and the BT stack ahs vastly improved since the ROM versions shipped in the devices.
You may find that A2DP skips and is crackly, also that the device might be a bit unstable (if you stick with the ROM you are currently using)
Can I have 2 sets of bluetooth headphones for me and my m8 to listen to music via the a2dp stream at the same time ?
I live in the country, and walk lots.. would be cool to have synced mp3's.
I dont know, but i doubt it. Thats alot of data streaming at once from such a device.
Only thing to do is give it a try.
I dont have any bluetooth headsets yet. would kinda be a expensive test.
I dont 100% understand how the bluetooth pairing system works, but I roughly get it.
Is there maybe a way to have headsets use the same channel/pairing id. the headsets dont need to send any info back, I just wish to recieve the music. which is allready being broadcast, it doesnt need to be broacast 2 times.
Maybe there are special headphones which can share the same id's ?
I dont know the technical terms to describe what I'm after. multiplexing? multistreaming? that didnt throw up any search answears..
The pairing procedure is indeed a 2 way process unfortunatly, thats how the Hermes knows when to quit piping sound over the speaker and microphone in the device.

Hey does anyone know where i can find a tmc reciever for our phones that work with igo 8 I've been searching google for the last 3 hours and i'm tired of looking so if someone could give me a hand i would appreciate it. most of the tmc receivers i've seen are combined with gps which i dont need especially for the 150 bucks they want for them.
GNS are advertising a launch of TMC only receivers.
http://www.gns-gmbh.com/index.php?id=72&L=1
Hi,
I have baught one TMC Bluetooth from GNS and it works fine with Igo8!! The only problem, is that for the moment, Igo8 doesn't decode TMC Premium but only free TMC.
The bluetooth one is very good because, it's hidden in the car and you don't need to unplug it when you leave the car! Exept if you want to keep it with you...

Very interesting, do you mean you got this version, looped in the car radio antenna coax cable? I think it's useful to mount it hidden in the dashboard, in the end, I'd only need TMC while driving, not when using GPS apps on the Kaiser elsewhere...
How does this receiver get powered, is it supposed to be always on, and as soon as you approach with the Kaiser you can pair it?
Hi,
It isn't exactly this one, mine is the same but with different antenna connector. The connector are fakra, your link is for iso connector. But the device is the same, so you have to check your antenna connector before buying. I baught directly from germany but I don't know if they send out of europe...
For the power connector, you just have to plug the red cable to the 12v of your car. To prevent decharging the battery, I have plug it to a non permanent 12v (swithed with the key), and so you can also reset the tmc receiver.
After it's bluetooth, so you can connect near and in the car...
When you have made a bluetooth association,, you just have to create a serial port to be recognised is your gps software...
Hope it's help you.

Thanks for the tip with the switched 12v line, didn't know from their on line pictures what's the red wire for. I'm living in Germany anyway, so shipment will be ok. Damned, I mounted the car stereo myself last year, and now I don't exactly remember if it has the ISO antenna plug, albeit the stereo has a DIN connector, which is coaxial, too but larger, and I think there might be a ISO-to-DIN adapter in my Mazda Tribute, (sibling of the US Ford Escape), then I'm in luck, otherwise I'd have to order such an adapter, too. The Haynes manual or some internet research might reveal the connector type before extracting the unit again...
Heres a question, as the Kaiser doesnt have an inbuilt FM radio, but the Rapheal will do, do you think it will be possible to use the inbuild Fm radio to pickup TMC instead of using a BT dongle?
For Zoolooc:
The Red wire, is for the 12v power, the ground is made by the antenna connector.
And yes, there are adaptators for antenna connector!!
For leaskovski:
only if it can read RDS on fm radio!
I bought a TMC receiver of that company. it is built in a car power cable...
long story short: it doesn't work on the kaiser with IGO8
With my kaiser, it works... but only with free tmc...
I will try the 8.0.0.29000 witch works with Premium tmc... I'll tell you when i'll have repaired my kaiser!

Hi everyone, I rooted my x10 the week it was rooted and since that time have always had an issue with my alpine w505 head unit and the blue-tooth.
It works but i have to turn the volume all the way up on the car audio to just barley hear anyone.
I was not to concerned and figured it was just a glitch and was waiting for android 2.1. well with the delay and pending release of the android update I decided to update my x10 from 016 to 026. I did a clean install and thought my blue-tooth issue would be gone, well it it the same.
The alpine unit works fine with my wives nokia, but my x10 is horrible.
I can tell you that it worked great with the default rogers rom. which makes me believe that it's an issue with the packaged files I'm using.
I used the rom from post 4 in the android development thread. as i was going to try and just update. but I did have an issue and decided to do a clean upgrade.
Has anyone else had an issue with a car blue-tooth device? or does anyone have the alpine w505?
Thanks
You are lucky the bluetooth works at all.........................................
The prime reason for me wanting 2.1 is so that the SE flagship experia can do the things my 2007 K800i does..........................................................
ok is everyone having issue's with bluetooth and android 1.6? or is this a x10 issue?
I have a parrot CK3100 and everything works fine, i have to set the volume half the way because it sounds too loud.

I bet you can't voice dial and the phone book does not transfer though!
I have my xperia on xxxxx24 working in a fashion with a nokia kit. In the menu, you have an option to keep the lights on for development purpose. Say yes to this. Re boot phone, switch on Bluetooth, connect, stick in car charger and it doesn't disconnect while lights are on cos x10 don't sleep.....

I can confirm the X10i works flawlesly on the Bury C9060 too, and syncs phone book, also A2DP music works as it should, it never loses sync and bluetooth is available after approx 5 secs of starting the car.
You can also change tracks from the C9060 and voice dial is imo better than the parrot, I checked every device before going for the C9060.

I can't sync my phonebook on my jvc unit or look at the name of songs that are playing off my phone when I use bluetooth streaming. It works fine with the bold and iphone though

Here i am
This is how the Agenda looks when you sync a phone that it isn't able to transfer your contacts(my old LG viewty for example):
X10i linked with parrot, notice the icon located at the low right side, that means it is transfering your contacts:
This is how Agenda looks now:
Let's see if it works...
Yep, working
You can check Exif data to view time/date of the pics and the camera(x10i ), it links 5 seconds after i turn on the car, never disconnects, however i can't do AD2P since parrot CK3100 can't support it
OP-- this sounds stupid but it happened to me so check. The media volume for bluetooth is different from the media volume coming out of the speaker/headphones. Try turning up the volume on the phone.
