URGENT HELP!! Broken stylus stuck in phone!!! - P3600 General

This is the second stylus I've gone through in 2 weeks of owning the phone. Again the plastic bit came loose on the metal shaft (completely detached), leaving the metal part stuck INSIDE the phone when I tried pulling the stylus out. I tried removing the battery and attempted to push the shaft out via the two tiny holes on the side using e.g. toothpick. Nothing worked so far as the stylus is too smooth and shiny to get a grip on using pretty much anything. I wonder if the only way is to get HTC support to open up the casing to get it out.HELP!!!!
I've tried search but surprised that with these fragile styli no one else here has had a similar problem. I've used many other PPCs before e.g. HP and Dell and I have to say their styli are much more rigid then these.

I had the same problem.
When you take the battery out you see a white thing, there you can push it away whit a small knive.
I hope that you now what i mean because my englisch is not so good.

I had the same problem with a Malaysian Dopod. The service center in KL is replacing all "broken" stylus with new ones as a warranty repair. Seems a lot of them are breaking. Also the most failure prone stylus are the black ones. The stylus from thw white 810 do not seem to have the manufacturing defect.

The service center in Hong Kong refuse to replace the stylus even under warrantee (only bought 2 weeks ago!!). To my great surprise they CLAIMED that my problem is unusual and it is rare that stylus can break so easily (and i just had 2 broken in one week!!)
I've tried the whole day today to take the stylus out trying everything. I probably may need to take the phone to be serviced.

I have the same problem and i fixed with a little bir of contact adhesive in the plastic part (very small drop of adhesive). Then i put the plastic into the phone slot and when it fix with the metal part, just pull and rescue and repaired the stylus at once!

xda exec case marks

Hi everyone,
I havent seen a post about this so i assume its only me that has this!
Since i have been carrying my exec in my pocket in 'clamshell mode' i have noticed that some of the keys on the keyboard have rubbed against the plastic next to the screen causing dot marks. i assumed the rubber pads at the edge of the screen were supposed to prevent this.
Anyone else noticed this? Anyone know how i can get rid of the marks!?
Paul.
I have the saem problem with my QTEK 9000
I have called tech support and they state that it isn't covered by the guarantee. Thats BULLS**T. I don't know who to talk to now to have this problem solved.
I got a Krusell Case and now the transparent part of the case has scratches. The case is 5 days old!!! This is definitely a factory defect in my book.
Who do we complait to about this?
Guys, don't you agree this is a factory defect? Anybody know any of the dealers personally and could inquire about this problem?
I've mentioned this under another post (search for "keyboard bump stops"). Basically, the little curves rubber stops in the bottom corners aren't tall enough to prevent the keyboard rubbing the top of the clamshell.
This is how I've fixed it...
1. Prize out the rubber stops (this is very easy with a jewellers screw driver, or similar)
2. Put a very small amount of Blu-Tac into the recesses, and pack it down with the screwdriver. This is to act as a base for step 3.
3. Using the screwdriver, carefully dab superglue on the blu-tac, and around the lip of the recess.
4. Push the bump stop back into place.
Mine now sit about 2-3mm proud of the surface, and I can see daylight through the closed clamshell, so the keys don't touch the top piece.
Cheers,
Steve.
Does this mean that it isn't a factory defect? And really isn't covered by warranty?
I think it's just a design flaw, really. In theory, I suppose you could insist they do something about it, but I don't know whether you would get anywhere.
Cheers,
Steve.
I recently applied a screen protector on my Qtek 9000 and used a cloth to clean glasses with to clear the screen of any dust. Since then I've put the cloth in between when I closed my Qtek. Both the screen protector & cloth will hopefully prevent any damage to the screen and surrounding area due to the keys touching and rubbing them. :!:
its a shame that, after we have looked after our devices so carefully, they are damaged due to a design fault!
Is there any way of polishing these marks out? i suppose it would be very difficult with the case being a matt finish.
Yeah, this is very disappointing. Does this happen to those who have MDA Pro, Imate, O2 also?
Is there some bureau where we can complain?
My Exec with about 3 weeks of use also shows marks on "-" and "+" keys, and also on "2" and ":", more concerning is when the device is used with screen out as I tend to keep mine now, the rubber stops actually touch nothing at all because of the curved outer case. No marks have appeared on the "o2" alluminium outer yet though, only on the plastic surrounding the screen on the inner.
Regards
Yeah same here... six little dots on the left of the screen and attendant shiny keys... bah!
I have ordered a Krussell case and was hoping this would fix the problem, but it sounds like it might not (although I'd rather the case got damaged than the device).
What about those of you with Piel Frama cases? The fact that they are a bit chunky and prevent the device from closing fully sounds like a godsend now, doesn't it?
I have an MDA Pro and I don't have this problem at all, there is a good gap between the screen and the keys.
I'm not sure if its the same for all MDA Pros, or if I've just been lucky.
Good for you that you don't have those marks. I only have them on the screen side so i guess it happens when the device is closed.
I have the krusell case. No luck, the plastic has scratches too. Only after 4 days, mind you.
Has anyone had POSITIVE results after complaining?

This issue is a design flaw and therefore should be repaired/replaced under warranty. I have had five xda exec's due to this problem or that, and on number five I was adimint I would not get any shiney spots on it so I removed the little rubber stops and now I have my own home made stick on rubber stops which when I look through when closed I can see daylight...and no shiney spots so far....but I would say we should get together and do a major complant about this issue..I can not belive how HTC built the best phone I have ever owned the XDA2 and the very same company have built the worst one I have ever owned too.... the XDA exec
I've got shiney keys on the right and left of my keyboard on my mda pro but no marks on the screen,
I've been using a screen protector since I received it, all bar two days of trying to work out why the screen stops responding.
The shiny marks should be next to the screen and not on it. It's VERY annoying!
I have shiny spots both sides of screen, krussel case with shiny spots on clear plastic, AND - The screen swivels a bit on the hinge as you open and close, leaving a horizontal line above the top four center buttons on the keyboard, where the bottom of the screen above the hinge touches. Anyone else got this line?
so far no problem with this hinge causing a line.
I have the faded plastic of the krusell case though
Silicon Case
I protected my Dopod900 with a silicon case since I don't want to put scratches on it, I think it works fine. Take a look at it.
ive had my exec since november. If i call o2 and make a fuss about the damage i have from the keys will they replace it under warranty? How many people have managed to replace there exec's due to this problem?
But what even if they replace it??? This is a design fault and in all likelihood the next unit you will get will start having these marks in a few days of use.
But yes we should all make a fuss so that O2 finally pushes HTC to correct the design fault.

Black paint chipping off my Wizard :(

Hi guys, when I got my wizard, it had 3 tiny little pin prick sized holes on the middle black section just above the IrDA. Almost like tiny air bubbles that had been popped, it was hardly noticable.
Yesterday I noticed that in this area, some of the black paint had chipped off, at first I thought it was something on my phone so I rubbed it gently and more paint chipped off, it comes off with the gentlest of touches with my nail.
I've taken good care of the phone, it doesn't have a single scratch on it, other than this.
I am not happy, I've dealt with the ridiculous speeds of my phone, the crashing, the complaints that people can't hear me, and now this.
I know it's only a cosmetic defect, but what are my chances of getting it swapped?
I've had the phone 6 weeks.
Cheers
Don't know about swapped.. but at least in NL several users have sent in their Qtek9100 to Qtek.nl's support for the paint coming off of the faceplate buttons, and gotten new faceplates. However, there's also some that are still waiting (20days+) to get their device back... there's -that- to keep in mind as well
Flaky
Until I got my car mount I was jamming mine in my old XDA II mount. This has caused the black paint to flake off big time. However, as the underneath is black too I'm not that bothered. Makes it look kind of lived in.
I have had the exact problem from pretty much the first week I got the device. I have babied it too.
Yep, my paint is flaking off too. The paint on the IE, messaging and soft keys went a long time ago. A little annoying for such an expensive device.
me too.
my IE button's paint is staying but my messaging key's paint is peeling off. also, the paint flaked off from the non-IrDA side, and the Qtek branding peeled off significantly before i cleaned it out completely. the build quality of the outer casing of this device is very questionable.
i can't wait to switch to my next ppcpe, the FS T830.
Wow I guess it's not just me then.
I'll take it back this evening and see what they say, I guess they will initially try to give me the run around.
Cheers for the replies.

same with me, i have a topic on peeled buttons.
used a needle to clean it up, now looks perfect.
I have had some paint troubles on my i-mate K-Jam too...
I bought it at the end of November '05.
Actually it is in for assistance on many small troubles, but if I sum all of them, they are quite annoying:
- stylus not being retained anymore in place
- keyboard not railing correctly to the end on the left side when opening
- keyboard a little bit loosy (when it's closed you can "gently" press is a little bit and it gets at least two millimiters thin, but this is probably due to the fact it felt on the floor once)
- sometimes files stored on the memory card (SanDisk SD 1Gb) are LOST
- paint on the black chassis (both sides) bubbled and came off
The answer I got about paint on the chassis is that "cosmetical" problems are not covered by warranty, but I replied that garantee covers "BAD CONSTRUCTION" problems, beside "functional or cosmetic" and this has to be intended as "BAD CONSTRUCTION", nothing else.
I'll have to pay, but I'll immediately after go to the court for my rights...
I'll try to contact i-mate in the meaningwhile, but actually their website is offline...
I'll keep you informed.
Ciao
any of you guys gonna send the phone for warranty repaire because of this issue?
somebody in NL did and waited 3 weeks+ to get the phone back... probably not worth it But at least Qtek NL did state that it was a manufacturing error and that they'd take care of it.
Edit: this is regarding the paint chipping off of the buttons; not sure about paint elsewhere / any of the other issues. The loose stylus silo is definitely a known issue; hard to ignore as it's all over the internet
My complain was about the paint which is bubbling and removing from the black sides of the device itself.
This morning (after 3 weeks) I got it back BUT I had to PAY Euro 88,00 for this service as the issue was not recognised as a warranty one...
I did not got the damaged part back (and I don't like this, as it's MINE since I PAID !!!).
This is giving me a lot of PUSH towards climbing the organisation ladder and complaining at every single level, up to my local court...
Just for my reference: if it's a WARRANTY ISSUE, the replaced parts are kept from the service as stated in the warranty document, but if I have to pay for a substitution, don't you think I owe the replaced parts back ?
Just my two cents.

Stylus problem: they break!

It always happened the same way: I drop a stylus and the tip breaks off.
Every single time.
Sometimes I can be a but clumbsy but I think it is rediculous that it cant handle the fall. Are there styli which arent so very breakable or do I have to make some construction with a line of rope connecting my stylus to the phone or something... doh... any ideas? Styli arent the cheapest things for what you get and I dropped my stylus 5 times now (yes that means I broke 5 of them). I dont want to spend a fortune on finger replacements...
Thanx for any replies
I also have some stylus problems...
my first kill: the big plastic part at the back broke clean off when i dropped it onto the street
I injured one, but it came back to life: the big plastic part at the back came out of the aluminium part of the stylus, i glued it back in and seems fine again.
Today i found bought a dead one...: i bought a set of replacements, and one of them is missing the tip of the stylus...
So i agree, they should have been built a bit better than this...
Hi,
I killed one Blueangel stylus.
The should make full metal ones, lol
Or full plastic ones...
I've never broken my HP H5550 stylus (which is ugly, but indescructible)

Problems with stylus

Hi guys,
I've a serious problem with my universal... the stylus doesn't stay attached into the slot of the xda, so I continously risk to lose it...
How can I solve the problem?
Should I send it to repair services? If yes, how can I downgrade to bootloader 1.00 (the original one for my Qtek 9000 Ita)?
I hope you hearing from you soon...
Thanks
I'm not sure if the service centre will accept that as a fault, they may say it's "wear and tear".
Try a layer of selotape to make the stylus thicker or try a stylus with a built in pen, it seems to fit better than my old stylus (which I lost when it fell out).
Hi,
You just have to put some tape and it will stay in place...
And if you send it for repair, do you really think they 'll make some trouble for the bootloader version for a mechanical stylus problem? Are you serious?
Thanks for the smile you generate on my mouth... LOL
It's a little plastic spring clip that holds the stylus in place. Mine broke and all I did was open it up and glue it back in place with a bit of card behind it. No chance of the stylus falling out now.
As far as warranties go, it should be covered as any good sold as new should be free of mechanical defects for a perion of 1 year, if the clip isn't up to holding the stylus in place with average use for a year, it is a manufacturers defect......

Has paint problem been fixed?

Hi all,
I've had so much trouble with my atom exec I'm considering changing to a dopod d810. unfortunately it seems (at least what I know) only the black is available in australia, so can anyone give any feedback regarding whether the paint problem has been fixed since the device was released?
Thanks
I've got a black HTC P3600 and I just noticed the first sign of peeling two days ago after about a week of GENTLE use. I knew about this problem before I bought and I thought I was extremely careful pulling out the stylus, but I noticed a small peel the other day. I am using the nail polish trick right now and it seems to have worked like a charm.
I would suggest two things:
1. Put the clear nail polish on around the stylus sleeve before any peeling starts.
2. Always pull out the stylus with your nail toward the back on the black plastic. Any contact with the dark grey metal part will eventually cause peeling.
I will tell you that other than this paint problem (which seems easily surmountable) - the Trinity is a fantastic device - and now that it has GPS it has no equal IMHO. Don't let this minor flaw scare you off from owning this device.
I thought I'd just drop a message to say that my trinity still hasn't peeled. I'm not sure why, because I don't use a case or a silicone cover, I just put it in my pocket as it is with nothing and put it everywhere. I'd like to think it was fixed... one thing i just thought of was i've noticed on the net some pictures have the 'dopod' logo on the top left corner of the device rather than under the screen in mine. is it possible something has been changed?
don't get over excited about paint not peeling around the stylus. I've had two 3600's that peeled and neither was anywhere near the stylus
I could well be tempting fate, but the one I have now which is now about 3 months old hasn't peeled at all! Interestingly if you go by the serial numbers it's an older model than the others that I had!
mine peeled at the most unusual place, the soft reset hole.

Well, I suppose it wouldn't be unusual if you soft reset your device a lot!
my girlfriend (p3600) peeled at her soft reset hole too.
This is one solution

I have to advise that HTC has not resolved the issue. Recently sent mine in for repair. Peeled again within 2 weeks.
Looking for a white one but I cannot find any.
