It always happened the same way: I drop a stylus and the tip breaks off.
Every single time.
Sometimes I can be a but clumbsy but I think it is rediculous that it cant handle the fall. Are there styli which arent so very breakable or do I have to make some construction with a line of rope connecting my stylus to the phone or something... doh... any ideas? Styli arent the cheapest things for what you get and I dropped my stylus 5 times now (yes that means I broke 5 of them). I dont want to spend a fortune on finger replacements...
Thanx for any replies
I also have some stylus problems...
my first kill: the big plastic part at the back broke clean off when i dropped it onto the street
I injured one, but it came back to life: the big plastic part at the back came out of the aluminium part of the stylus, i glued it back in and seems fine again.
Today i found bought a dead one...: i bought a set of replacements, and one of them is missing the tip of the stylus...
So i agree, they should have been built a bit better than this...
Hi,
I killed one Blueangel stylus.
The should make full metal ones, lol
Or full plastic ones...
I've never broken my HP H5550 stylus (which is ugly, but indescructible)

Is anyone experiencing this problem. I have now lost my fourth stylus. The slightest knock will dislodge the stylus whilst on the belt clip. Because the xda 11 will now swivel around due to the location of the clip, stylus will fall from unit. Anybody got sources for replacements?
I haven`t lost one yet but
I must amid, these things are lovely to eat , as they are so much smaller and tinner than the IPAQ ones. And they also make a lovely toothpic.
And of course of the perfect shape at the top, they are the ultimate tool to clean out your....
Same here im on my 3rd. I have purchased more from www.pdaaddons.com
I have had mine for a little over a week and have already lost one stylus.
Looks like I will be reverting to my Rotring 600 Trio as I find the stylus way to tiny in any case.
http://www.styluscentral.com/rotring600trio.html
I tried www.pdaaddons.com but they don't mentiona stylus for the xda2.
Stylus XDA II PLUS pen!
I know ink is soooo passé...
but I got a stylus that has a dead handy ink-pen inside from brando.com!
Refills very cheap too! Very quick delivery from Hong Kong.
Tightening up the Sytlus Holder
Is ther any way to do this?
Kind regards
Alan
I have noticed that the ones o2 uk shops sell are slightly thinner than the original one that came with my XDA2, and keeps slipping out, could try some blue tack to hold it in place!!!
try ebay.
A lot of compnies are offering styli in 3-pack, which gives you 2 spares!

The trick is not to loose it!
Needs to fit better
After losing two styluses, I bought a stylus with a built-in pen at the other end. To keep from losing this stylus, I modified the XDA II case. I cut the transparent hard plastic packaging material of the stylus and attached it using electrical tape to the top of the XDA II leather case. The plastic is now blocking the path of the stylus. There is no way now for the stylus to fall unless I open the case.
I don't like cases so I don't have that option. I was wondering if there was a way to modify the silo or perhaps put some sort of compression spring/washer in the grove at the bottom end of the stylus

Real Filipino inguinity.. hehehehehe...
Almost lost my sytlus two days ago, its a good thing that I remembered that I tried to get the stylus out while in the car but had to stop because my XDA2 fell in the floor. After 2 hours my friend noticed that the stylus is missing, took me a few minutes before I remembered the attempt that I made while inside the car... hehehe.. almost made me angry at the thought of losing the stylus...
I am still searching for the perfect case, but I have found one that is better than the original (well, that wouldn't be hard!).
This is 'Inno Pocket' model OX-0313, and I got mine brand new off Ebay 'Buy Now' for £20 plus £3.50 postage.
It is made of "Light weight aircraft grade scratch resistant anodized aluminium" and weighs 75g. It has lots of cut-outs and you can use charger (although not cradle), headphones and camera without taking it out of the case. You can answer the phone, and end a call with it in its case, too (which is what I like), although without being able to access the screen, you still have to open it to dial.
On the downside it isn't very well made - when it's open the cover sort of wobbles on its hinges, although it's OK when closed. It's also not easy to open (definitely can't do it with one hand) and would have been greatly improved with a nice, swish press 'n' spring catch (I'm sure there's a technical term for this...). Also the texture of the case is such that it is incredibly slippery; I'm sure i'm far more likely to drop it, or that it will slide off a surface. Plus it's a bit awkward getting the stylus out. You have to remember to get it out before you open it, otherwise you have to close it again...
But I haven't reverted back to the old case yet...
Has anyone got anything better yet?
I find its best to not put the XDA II into a case, it rattles around in my jacket pocket along with my keys and wallet and stuff and doesnt seem any worse for wear after 4 months like that, i put a scrren protector on as soon as i got the unit and it is a bit scratched but the screen underneath is mint
slippery
It is incredibly slippery. I have already dropped it down two flights of stairs - and no damage!
I use my old Toshiba E570 case.
Also the stylus slips out too easily - so I use my thumbnail sharpened appropriately.

I am using the Proporta Aluminium case for my XDA II. The case itself is slippery so I got some Egrips from Egrips.com to stick on the case. It works for me. A wee bit of bluetack stuck down the stylus slot will keep it there even if you a cartwheel.
Cheers.
When I had the XDA1 I hated the case. I had to use it in the beginning because I was so afraid of it being scratched or damaged. In the end though I stopped using it (even after putting some protective pads on the magnet connectors when I discovered they were scratching the phone) as it looked a bit naff.
The XDA2 one is much better! It's lined with felt and there are no places where it can seemingly scratch the phone. Yeah it's a bit obstructive and you look an idiot if you try using the phone with half the case dangling from your ear (I've found the best way is to take it out when you have to use the phone), but otherwise I'm very impressed with how much better in all aspects the 2 is over the 1. It feels more like an expensive phone (which it very much is) and the case feels more protective than the old one.
I've got a screen protector for it too and though it dulls the screen a bit (annoying in the sunlight) they're well worth having. No more fanatical cleaning (and risking getting bits under the screen) due to fingerprints on the screen etc.

STYLUS SILO TIGHT:If you have had you Wizard for longer than 6 months and it's still tight, please mention this and report the age of your Wizard. Note which variant you have (Cingular 8125, K-Jam, Dopod, etc). I define tight as holding the stylus reliably and you never have to worry about it falling out.
STYLUS SILO LOOSE: Please post how old your unit is and an estimate of how long it took for this to happen. Note which variant you have (Cingular 8125, MDA, XDA Mini, Dopod, K-Jam, etc). Will it not hold at all or does it grip a little but sometimes starts to slide out?
Note: If you take out your stylus very rarely or much too often, your info will not be useful. Do NOT post solutions, only post your experience. Solutions are already present in other threads.
I would like to do a survey to see how big this problem is. Some users have reported that their stylus silo has become loose and will no longer hold the stylus inside reliably. I'm somewhat a perfectionist and it bugs me that someday I might not be able to keep a stylus in the unit without having to modify it.
Thanks!
I purchased my t-mobile MDA about a week after it was released and have had no problem with the stylus. In fact I was impresssed with the few times I dropped it, the keyboard opened, battery fell out but the stylus was held in place.
I have a xda mini 1 year ago and if I put the pen inside my pda i loose it. I always keep my pen in my pocket.
No solutions?
stylus
Had my 8125 since march...The hole is Stoight...very stoight
Still have both styli as well
just wrap some tape around the stylus or loosen the T5 screw head thats at the front of the hole. I dont even use the stylus that came w/ it. A pen or finger usually, just make sure u have a screen protector on it.
I lost (2) times already. Still waitng for the new stylus arrive just order yesterday.
Hey, i got dopod 838 which is cingular 8125 variant of wizard since june. stylus still spot on tight. i only use the stylus for games thou. so mostly only out once per day. althou my keyboard is startin to feel loose but still acceptable that it still clicks when it closes. since i been playing around with it by sliding out and close again. other than that constant messaging on it as well when i sms. started to use phone pad recently when its more convenient at work and dont look like im playin wit it too much..
Had the T-Mobile MDA for about 3 months and it is definetly looser than when it first started.. there's a visible gap.. but so far the stylus does not fall out. It's STARTING to look and be annoying when you can shake your phone and hear the stylus inside shaking. What happens in 6 months when my phone vibrates?
happened to all of mine (2 x XDAII, 1 x Jasjar).
I found a small knife slice, and curl the edge inwards was sufficient to hold the stylus in place firmly.
Somehow the title sounds funny ("Is your hole Tight or Loose?")
Back on track, mine was loose, i used 2 layers of tape on the stylus and now is ok...but i have to change the tape every 1 or 2 months as it start to wear out...not a big deal...dunno how old as i buyed it used already in ebay...manufacturing date says nov 2005...is a qtek 9100
I have my T-Mobile MDA Vario for about 6 Months and the stylus is loose, but isnt falling out yet, Im sure in a month or 2 it will get totally loose
I have a xda mini s the stylus got loose within 3 months. Then I found this wonderful link to fix it
http://www.pdagold.com/articles/detail.asp?a=274
its been over 4 months now sill working gre8. by the way I never lost any of my stylus
hi, i purchased my xda a month back and stylus got loose within 15 days, as i used it very often and put in ond out the stylus many times and dont like to keep it in my hand, but now its very loose and had no option but to put some tape over it to make it fit in the hole, with tape it is sticking there for long.
XDA mini S - 9 months and as tight as ever.....
I've had an XDA Mini-S for 6 months and stylus won't stay in at all. It's used no more than 2 or 3 times a day.
I use mine all the time. I put it in and out of its hole frequently, somtimes I extend and shorten it by myself and don't even bother with the hole. After a while the hole started to get kinda loose and boring I might add. So I went out and found another hole for a while till that one got loose and went back to my original and it was tight again, although a little jelous. My stylus is now kinda shakey and limp due to all its use

I much prefer not to keep it in my hand too, but you should ALWAYS wrap up your stylus man, be safe.
I have my KJam just over a year now and the stylus is somewhat loose.
That means it isn't as tight as it used to be, but the stylus is hold at its place.
Haven't lost it yet, even if I shake the KJam as you would shake a deck of cards to get it out of the box.

Same for me on dropping and not having the stylus fall out while the battery went flying and the keyboard opened. It fits snug and stays in place at all times.
I've had my 8125 since April. My use of the stylus is intermediate but not heavy.
Cingular 8125, Since Mid April 2006
My stylus still fits snuggly into its receptacle. I use it several times daily. My keyboard is also snug even though it is extended at least 3 - 4 times daily.
Have to say the 8125 is a solid built device.
Looser than a room of hookers.
XDA mini s (UK). 02 replace/repair this under warranty.
hi,
this question might not even have anything to do development. i have been using my exec for a year now, and the problem is that the stylus has become quite loose and doesnt stay in the phone securly, have others had similar problems and if yes what's their solution?
thanks
Same problem, but no solution, im sorry
The inner plastik thingy which holds the stylus is somehow.. overused or rubbed off?
I dont think that there is a solution :/
I had the same problem with my old xda exec.
Stuck sellotape around stylus and that did the trick for me.
Simple but effective. Needed to replace sellotape once a month.
I had the same problem. First I have use scotch tape around the stylus which looks ugly therefore I start use few drops of Super glue and making little swell on the stylus
A little lump of blue tac pushed into the socket which holds the stylus in place when I put it in.

Believe me when I say that the best alround solutution is to by a replacement stylus like this one http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/8393.htm
I lost my first stylus about six months ago because it was too loose, there is no way this one will fly out. It fits nice and snug.

I second this! These stylii fit very securely and are MUCH better than the originals that come with the device. I've had 2 because I accidentally dropped one right on the tip (dropped from my hand, it didn't slip out of the Universal) and both were snug.
bend stylus
i tried to paint my last stylus with nail enamel (color metalic gray), didn't work ...so i decided to bend it a little
it worked for me..
tricky question .. how much bend it ?
well.. i didn't clean enamel from stylus, (im lazy...) while i was trying to bend enamel crack ....that was my scale
The little clip which holds the stylus in on mine broke off completely. I opened the case up and glue the clip back in while padding it out with paper at the same time. Holds the stylus rock solid now, much better than it ever did before.
This is the second stylus I've gone through in 2 weeks of owning the phone. Again the plastic bit came loose on the metal shaft (completely detached), leaving the metal part stuck INSIDE the phone when I tried pulling the stylus out. I tried removing the battery and attempted to push the shaft out via the two tiny holes on the side using e.g. toothpick. Nothing worked so far as the stylus is too smooth and shiny to get a grip on using pretty much anything. I wonder if the only way is to get HTC support to open up the casing to get it out.HELP!!!!
I've tried search but surprised that with these fragile styli no one else here has had a similar problem. I've used many other PPCs before e.g. HP and Dell and I have to say their styli are much more rigid then these.
I had the same problem.
When you take the battery out you see a white thing, there you can push it away whit a small knive.
I hope that you now what i mean because my englisch is not so good.
I had the same problem with a Malaysian Dopod. The service center in KL is replacing all "broken" stylus with new ones as a warranty repair. Seems a lot of them are breaking. Also the most failure prone stylus are the black ones. The stylus from thw white 810 do not seem to have the manufacturing defect.
The service center in Hong Kong refuse to replace the stylus even under warrantee (only bought 2 weeks ago!!). To my great surprise they CLAIMED that my problem is unusual and it is rare that stylus can break so easily (and i just had 2 broken in one week!!)
I've tried the whole day today to take the stylus out trying everything. I probably may need to take the phone to be serviced.
I have the same problem and i fixed with a little bir of contact adhesive in the plastic part (very small drop of adhesive). Then i put the plastic into the phone slot and when it fix with the metal part, just pull and rescue and repaired the stylus at once!
