Now I've done it... please help! - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

OK, I did something dumb. I went in and activated OMAPClock via Smartskey without fully testing the limits of my MDA. I'm sure you know what's coming next... now my phone won't boot. It usually will get as far as painting the Today screen but it completely freezes at that point.
Other than a hard reset, is there any way that I can get my phone up and running? I'm thinking of something like safe mode on a Windows PC, where I can bypass the stuff in Startup. Or is there any other way to block Smartskey or OMAPClock from starting automatically? If there were some way to get at the config file for Smartskey I could fix it as well.
Thanks in advance...

The only way to get safe mode is if you already have a program installed that has that function. There are a few out there, one being pocket mechanic and I can't think of what the others are off hand but if google for ppc safe mode you'll find them. Unfortunately if you don't have one of them already installed you're most likely in for a hard reset. I don't exactly trust safe mode on my wizard anyway, the one time I tried it out it wouldn't come out of it. It just kept rebooting in safe mode after that and I ended up doing a hard reset anyway.

As far as i know hard reset is your option. but thats me saying
I myself had this problem when i first started to use my phone and i found out that there is no safe mode but there is programs that have this option
Edit: xeno1 beat me to it

HR and recosider using safemode tool.....

8525 freezes up during ActiveSync Info screen

I'm not sure exactly why it's happening, the last thing i remember doing before this problem occurred was uninstall some programs, and decrease the text size in settings.
But everytime I power on the handset, it will boot up fine. But then the activesync information screen (the one that shows your recent syncronizations) will pop up, and my phone freezes up right there. It's pretty much unavoidable at this point, everytime I reset my phone its the same problem. I'm able to do a soft reset at this point, but that's pretty much it.
If it's any help, one of the programs I removed was pTravelAlarm (Burr oak software) i got rid of that because i was getting a "Cannot execute \Windows\pTAmgr.exe" Notification Error during startup, which now that I mention it, the error still pops up even after i removed it.
Is there anyway to perform a hard reset without having to be in windows, or connected through activesync?
Or am i pretty much boned at this point.
You don't need or want to be connected to Active sync when doing a hard reset!
Hard reset is pressing both soft keys at the same time as poking the stlus in the soft reset hole. This takes device (after some menu screens) back to the way you got it originally.

ah, ok, i was under the impression that the "Reset" key was actually on the screen. yes im a silly newbie . Thanks!

We're all newbies to start with and we're all still newbies with some aspect or other of Hermes or WM5.
Use this thread if you have problems with hard reset.
Mike
I did a hard reset, and its working just fine. Though i do think i'll be updating the ROM, seeing as i've had many problems with the phone freezing up and recycling itself under the OEM ROM. Thanks again

HELP! Stuck in safe mode start screen?!

I went to do a defrag with Pocket Mechanics and it was supposed to restart in safe mode and defrag. But it only starts up in safe mode to the windows screen and stays there. Now I can't go anywhere else. Any ideas??? Thanks.

What version of PM are you running? I had this problem with 2.43 and I don't remember exactly how I got out of the situation. I seem to remember that PM creates a shortcut in \WINDOWS that is called from \WINDOWS\StartUp on restart. When I manually ran this shortcut, the situation was fixed on the next restart.
There have been several new versions since 2.43. There was at least 2.44 and 2.45, now I see there is a 2.50. It seems Anton has been so busy putting out new releases that he hasn't been able to keep up with the change logs, so I can't tell if this issue has been fixed. You may want to load the latest version and see if that helps. If not, send Anton a help request via his website www.wizcode.com, I am sure he will tell you how to fix it.
Note that all safe mode really does is disable your Today Screen items. Other than that, your device is still pretty much fully functional.
John
It's 2.45.
And it starts up to the "Windows Mobile" blue screen and just stays there. Nothing happens and I can't even do a soft reset or anything. Nothing. Active Sync can't connect to it so I can't execute anything. The only way is to take the battery out and then it just goes right back to this screen.
During startup, is there a key or something I can hold down to select a boot up option?

I assume you are trying to avoid a hard reset, as that would be the easiest option (and maybe the only one).
Before installing software I recommend a full backup program as your first ever purchase. These problems would cease to be problems as a hard reset can be followed by a full re-install of all your settings/programmes. I use SPB backup.
Mike
Yes, I'm trying to avoid a hard reset. And even then, I hope it works.

OK, this is not what I was experiencing with 2.43. I think you need to contact Anton for help. I agree with Mike Channon's suggestion, one of the first programs I bought when I switched over to Pocket PC was Spb Backup, and it has saved me several times.
John

installed some program now phone is froze

anway to fix? it freezes up whenever phone turns on
try installing SPB Pocket Plus or SPB Phone Suite, not sure which one has it but one of these programs allows you to goto into Safe Mode if the hangs let's say 2 times in a row..oh wait damnit..your phone is already froze...
Sorry I don't know what I could say to help..hard reset maybe?
Trust me install those 2 apps after...
company is called 'SPB Software House'. Not very expensive programs but really worth it.
cheers!
SPB Pocket Plus is the one:

Unfortunately, not going to help you with a non-booting phone now (hard reset is the only way out) but next time it happens you'll be very glad you installed it!

Help Please - Stuck In Startup Screen

Hi There
I've been using Helmi WM6 R0 and its been working like an absolute beauty, until just now. I had a call, it hung. I tried to soft reset which is it did, it goes past the 4 colour stripe screen then shows windows mobile screen and stuck!!!!!! nothing more. Tried soft resetting loads of times but nothing....please can any1 assist!!
Perform hard reset, read wiki about howto
Do I have to?
Please say there is another way around it.....please.....
If you want to get your data from the storage memory there is only one other way: Use hammer, rip off the flash and send it to Ontrack or other data recovery company.
If the value of data is lover than device itself, just perform HR and... remember about backup.
Hey man, I've had the exact same thing on mine with WM5 half a year ago, I was able to reboot it after (I believe) the 17th or 18th reset, but flashed another ROM on there afterwards,
Must say, if you should have SPB Plus installed you can press and hold the windows mobile screen and it will boot in safe mode...
Besides this, sorry, no option, unless if you just want to retrieve data on there, press record + camera button on the 4 colored boot screen and clear your registry, this should normally leave everything on the storage... But all the apps installed afterwards won't load anymore of course...
Regards,
backup....
whilst we on the sore point of backup.....wats the easiest, best, free backup option for wm6? (btw plz dont murder have not searched)
Cerr
Don't really know, always try to have all on my pc (contacts - calendar) so after synchro all is back immediatly, the easiest way if you wanna flash your device on every Rom that gets posted here
But you might have a look at one of these perhaps

My screen keeps going black, please help

Ok, I dont want to sound all noobish but I did check all the stickies for help before I resorted to this.
I was messing around with my phone and tried overclocking it from 247 to 273 and then the screen got all crazy.
After a few restarts and finally leaving it alone, BatteryStatus finally automatically disabled itself somehow. I thought it was safe to turn it back on but then the same thing happened and now it wont re-disable.
Does anyone know of any way of disabling BatteryStatus without being able to navigate through the phone menus(like via USB connection to a pc)? Or do I have to reinstall the original T-Mobile RUU all over again?
Thanks in advance
The same thing happened to my exgf's Wing when I gave her batterystatus on the Stock rom.
you may be able to use MY MOBILER www.mtux.com and control your phone from ur PC.
When installing it from the PC, hit the left softkey to make the install go thru on the phone... then it should connect automatically.
