Just want to find out whether this is normal.
There is a hiss during mp3 playback on my TyTN. Using the audio manager and WMP, the hissing is there on mp3 playback even when you have the program and system volume at zero.
In coreplayer and TCPMP the hissing is only when you have the volume above zero, and the hissing doesn't get louder or softer depending on volume. So its not the quality of the song. Tested with both mp3 and WMA.
Note that I am using wired headphones (Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3) through a HTC y-splitter, but I know its not the splitter or headphones because its the same through the phones speaker.
Its not a terrible sound, but you know its there. Is this something TyTN owners have just learnt to live with or is there some sort of software fix? Or is the solution to just turn the volume up so you can't hear it?
So do people just live with this background noise?

Yes - i reckon so - i searched and searched for a solution to the hiss I'm experiencing with a pair of super.fi pro 5's.
Also the minimum volume is too high with Pocket Music Player (unless you turn the preamp down - which reduces the volume without reducing the hiss!), WMP, mortplayer and HTC audio manager.
I get best results with tcpmp.
Still ... the audio is better than my plantronics stereo bluetooth headset even with the best a2dp setting.
Super.fi's are superb played through a mini disc player!
If you find a solution please post it!!
Hiss...we don't have no stinkin hiss!
Try using a player called Pocket Music. I have virtually no audible hiss. It also has a really nice graphic eq similar to Winamp that allows full control including hiss reduction if you pull back the upper most slider about 4db below center line.
I am using VP3G 3.2 and I run my bitrates at 128, or 320. Could you possibly be encoded below 128?
Convert is correct, I had to tamp the preamp gain way back in Pocket Music to have a good range of volume control too.
What phones are you using?

I get hiss and I'm encoding at between 192 - 256 kbps. Malkatraz mentioned the phones above - not sure about the splitter.
For what it's worth there seems to be no difference between tcpmp0.81RC1 Beta and Pocket Music Player except tcpmp is free (the equalizer was disabled in the freeware Pocket Music Player i downloaded).
PS. the attenuator that comes with the Super.fi 5 pro's gets rid of the hiss but the sound is slightly flatter.

On the other side the speaker output quality is still OK. The sound through the earphone ecos..sometimeit the voice goes low and instruments are high... normally this happens when you switch on the 3D surround on other devices like samsung Innov8. But the in X1 the quality is worse.. I even took it to the sony service they reloaded the ROM a fresh but the problems still remains. IS IT THE ACCEPTED SOUND QUALITY FROM X1. How about other owners .. do they get better sound output/quality through earphone. Is there anything I am doing wrong, Kindly suggest.
really? i find the music quality more than good enough. what headphones are you using?
The Headphone quality is f*cking good!!! I havn't heard this kinda bass on my I-Mate Jam or HTC TyTN II.
One thing is correct, the quality of the original earpieces is bad.
I got ones from creative. The one that go into you're ear.
The speaker quality..... Don't talk about it. Hate it
I'm using Sennheiser CX400 earphones and the sound quality is actually better than my iPod 5g.

The headphones supplied with this phone are suprisingly high quality ones. I have my own Phillips branded ones however.
Aside from the headphones, I think you issue is with the software you use. I found that WMPlayer is pretty crap when it comes to playing my favourite tracks. I use PocketPlayer and also Pocket Music, which have some very good equaliser functions. They make a big difference.
I also find the sound quality f*cking good!!
I expected the worse because it's a WM device, but it exceeded my expectations. Also using Creative ear-ins (EP-630)
I think there is a bug in the Sony Media Player software that can result in a seemingly poor quality sound output.
I've found that when opening the media player for the first time and playing a track the soundstage of the music sounds like its collapsed (lacking any high end or openess in the stereo image). If you then tap pause and then play again all of a sudden the soundstage opens out and the sound quality is very good.
Since I've turned on the "clicking" noise for screen taps, the above bug doesn't occur so often.
However, if I receive a call whilst listening to music after subsequently hanging up the bug re-appears.
Anyone else getting this?

I have this too, but I don't think the bug is mediapanel related only.
I get this when I use S2P, Wmplayer and the media panel.
Sounds almost like flat mono before I tap pause and then play again..
I don't see this as a huge bug, but it can get annoying.
It depends on the mood I'm in..
can anyone compare the speakerphone to a nokia n73 or n70?
It's definitely weaker than the N73 one.
so much so its sickening or just a tiny bit? how bad are we talking about here :S?
I was expecting this thread to be about the poor speakerphone quality.... which it is. I know of no WM phone with a good speakerphone so I wasn't expecting it to be as good as my N95's. However, music through headphone jack is as good, or perhaps even better than my N95 (not as much background hiss as the N95). I use Shure SE430's (pretty expensive earphones) and I find the music playback to be quite good. I even hook the X1 up to my Logitech Z5500 speakers through the Line-in jack and I can pretty much DJ a party with the phone and it sounds as good as if the songs were being played off my computer. (This is all through the SE Multimedia Panel btw. I get similar results with CorePlayer or Windows Media Player).
The only problem I have with the media panel is I can't receive calls with it open. That may or may not be a plus/minus to some people, but I guess it's ok. When people call me, it goes straight to voicemail. The only way I can receive calls with music playing is to go back to the today screen (with the music still going), which works out ok too, since I hold the end key to lock the phone, which brings it back to the Today screen before locking.
worst audio player?? are you kidding?
sorry, but thats definitly NOT TRUE.

the x1 has got the best and most powerfull audio out, i`ve tested. (but not compared with n70/73)
i wrote it few days ago in the accessoires threat.
i use the Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10 Pro Inear
with 3 drivers/speakers per earpiece. (like a 3 way oldschool musik speaker)
i`ve tested my ue10pro headsets with a lot of other mp3 players and mobile phones.
but the X1 is the first player, who can unleash the power to drive the UE 10 pro to there limit....
only my sondcard a creative x-fi has got enough power to blast your ears/tympanic membrane....
the base is unbeleavable! the headset can go down to 10hz. and the high tones are crisp, sharp, clear. but a little
to soft from the middle to the highest frequency. but this could be fixed with the equalizer/audio booster.
if you set the first base frequency to +12 and the second slider to -10, you can formerly 'feel' the extreme deep bases.
you cant beleave, that you are not in a club!
don`t use the x1+ue10 for longer time on maximum power. thats very risky for your ears. trust me.
the only thing is, you have to use coreplayer and calibrate the equalizer.
or use a new custom rom (touch it hd) with integrated audio booster.
holy ****, that rulez!!
Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10 Pro Inear (~300$-400$)
http://www.ultimateears.com/_ultimat...escription.php
these devices with othoplastic, spezially for your ears. and a laser burns your name into the headsets.
if you have 900$ bucks into your pocket, take a look at that:
http://www.ultimateears.com/_ultimat...escription.php
or 1150$? with 4 audio drivers/speaker per ear!!
http://www.ultimateears.com/_ultimat...escription.php
this is the last headset you buy! the cables are replaceble with translucent cables and iphone button.
no more broken headset cables/wires.
my advice, use coreplayer. DONT adjust the equalizer/tone faders more then 12 db.
you will be surprised.
(core is able to adjust more than 12db/slider. more then 12db will bring disharmonies and ugly subtones and crickeling)
(the audio booster could only adjust 6 db. thats not enough for xtreme bases.
but dont use in coreplayer the 2 lowest faders both to +12. thats to much base and
the headsets and the power amp will be very unprecise and roar/rumble and you run into danger to burn the headset
for good kickbase decrase the lowest fader to -3 and the second fader to +12, the 3th to +6. increase the high tones 1-4 db.
for good ultra deep base drums, set the lowest frequenzy +9 or +12, and the second one to -2, the third 0 db.
i have a ultimate ear fi 5 pro headphones with two driver lower is range then DOMin8or tri fi 10 pro. i get quite good results but not on the default player. I only use touch flo 3d in -built music player with audio booster, if you know how to set it , i guarantee you get better sound then walkman phone. i prefer bass and vocal no to be so dull. get the touch flo 3d music player set it to rock mode first then try to made this mode to v shape by just shifting the first two bar to be same as the last two bar, trust me even if you are using your default headphones, you will notice the difference

speaker phone n95 8gb i think is the best
try this setting on audio booster
possibly, but i will it verify by my own. for me, this is the best combo i`ve tested. and ths x1 has got exactly that power, i`ve searched for. more power will destruct my/your ears
i like this unhealthy power of X1. and at 90% power, the sound is very precise and defined.
and 90% is my personal max. and i like it loud. but 100% ? not with me. *G
audio booster has got other cross over frequencies. so my advice/hint could not used with audio booster. audio booster has a range of +-6 db. thats not as good as cores +-12db(possible +-18, but most time useless. only for spezial noise filtering. for example in microphone recordings)
the most players output power broken down, if i increased the base and at high volume.
with other players, you can formaly feel the missing amp power. (ipod nano iv suuuxxxxxx, cheap no name mp3 player, orbit, diamond, nokia 6233, creative zen v plus. but zen v was the best.(not the best menu, but good sound quali)
but now the x1 is my favorit device)
imho the x1 has got a good power amp.
im not sure will it fit everyone style but after some tunning i think this settings best for me to go for on default earphones, i have been looking for post how to optimized sound quality, here is one, hopefully more will share there experience, i bought the x1 because of the 3.5mm connector if x1 doesnt has it i wont even look up to x1!

Did you guys notice that the sound quality in htc audio output when we listen to music is almost without the bass even with bass boost or audio booster,at first i thought that it was due to lack of good audio player so i tried Pocket tunes and coreplayer but both didn't give any improvement ,its like you are listening to music with the twitter and without the bass,i tried increasing the audio quality but in vain ..its like almost horrible when it comes to audio music but pocket tunes and coreplayer in palmOS treo sounds very good with the volumes care software and even without it,the bass that it gives is almost like live..Then again I thought that it was the headset that is giving me the problem but when I listen to FM radio the sound quality is just superb so obviously its not the headset or the hardware but the audio codec that are used in the music player so I thought it will be better if there were a software like Volume care for Diamond ..i think that will do the trick.I will very thankful if any one can suggest me a way to improve the bad bassless sound quality either by enhancing software or another music player
DId you try adjusting the equalizer in the other audio software?
Are you referring to the old audio player bug where you would hear no bass at all when headphones were plugged in whilst audio booser was enabled?
Funny you should mention the FM radio sound being superb as I struggle to hear anything as the volume is too low
Yes I have tried the equalizer with full bass boost and custom mode and even volume boost feature available in pocket tunes ..there is a huge difference in FM Radio sound quality and the audio player sound quality, former gives the live like sound quality and latter is like i said its listening to twitter despite the fact that the ear piece is HTC original from the box and another thing ..don't you have the same problem?? or is it my HTC only..have you notice the FM radio and audio player sound difference..in FM radio the drum and the bass are thumping sound and very good but in audio player the drum sounds like a distance can cover banging and no bass at all(in the ear piece).

By old audio player bug means what?i don't understand.. Is there a new audio player upgrade available..if their is a new audio upgrade which solve these problems then can you point me to the right direction..your FM radio sound is too low mine is perfectly OK ..might be due to poor signal..and besides i have mention its not only the internal audio player but coreplayer and pocket tunes 4.1 too
Problem solved Did hardSPL and Radio upgrade but I think it wasn't by this coz it had nothing to do with sound quality ..may be all i needed was a hard reset which was done automatically when hard SPL upgrade was done..thanks to all
Is there a tool to reduce bass ? I have Audio Booster, but people says it has bug...so is there different tool ?
I got coreplayer, but there is no way to reduce bass in equalizer..Thanks

Hi
I've experienced something similar:
Tinny sound (no bass) hard reset everything fine.
Restore my SPB clone (push mail, all my apps) tinny sound again.
Interstingly, calls via the headset are lovely and bassy but any audio application playing files sounds really tinny and quiet.
I suspect the new version of Schapps advanced config myself as it seems to have started around the time I installed it and made my first change of some of the settings.
QUESTION: What settings in Schapps advanced config or Diamond Tweaks might I have missed? Are there any registry keys that I can delete to restore all the sound to default?
Yours
Leon
"People of Judea, Wome is your fwiend"
there's a work around for this that involves
Plugging in your headphones (vital!)
Closing Windows Media (or any other player)
Going to Audio Booster
Turn off Audio Booster
Start player - sound back to normal (sourced from Modaco)

Hi to All,
I don't know if it it is actually responsibility of our blackstone, but i noticed that the first few seconds of each track there is a very faint noise in the background similar to "a hard disk moving", e.g. a sound that looks like a little "clang clang" in the background. Of course, the sound is more noticeable with tracks starting at very low volume.
i thought it was Variable bit encoding with mp3 files. So i tried with lossless formats and extraction with EAC (exact audio copy) some tracks...and the noise is even more audible because the general quality of the track is better!
I have to admit: I am using the westone3 earbuds, probably the best quality in-ear headphones in the market!
The problem is present with all GSFinder, Coreplayer, WMP and HTC Player - and is independent of the audio booster.
QUESTION : do you have the same on your blackstone? do you know if it is originated by the blackstone DAC? by the 4-way jack? by the FM radio using the ground as antenna?
Ultimately: do you know how to remove it?
The stock music player on the note, besides not being able to do gapless playback also has really annoying DRC - very noticable compressing going on if you use custom EQ - and a noise gate which chops out very quiet passages/the tail end of fades off.
Is there any music player out there that gets round these issues or is it Samsung thoughtfully building this into hardware?
I used to love the Note but the more time I spend with it the more I realise the only thing I like is the screen size
Music
My choice is power amp, flexible, has it's own eq & dvc limit facility + a free trial, I bought early days.
hope this helps
I like Winamp (paid) or Mortplayer (free).
Sent from my Galaxy Note running ICS
Do they still have Dynamic Range Compression and the noise gate on?
Good example of the noise gate kicking in is track 12 of The Feeling's Twelve Stops and Home when it drops to the pub noise and walkign home the sound cuts in and out as the (unwanted) noise gate kicks in. I can understand having it on phone calls but why the ferk does it need to be on in music player?
I don't think it's the stock music player. I've noticed this DRC/noise gate thing everywhere, in the flash plugin, in vplayer, stock music player, ...
Whenever a certain volume level is not reached, it gets muted. E.g. the heavy breathing of Tony Soprano in the Sopranos when he's at his shrink's are muted, and totally ruining the experience.. Doesn't matter if it's in vplayer or in the standard video player app.

Why don't you try? All three propositions (Mortplayer, Winamp, Poweramp) doesn't cost you a dime if you want to try them. There is a trial version of poweramp, a light version of Winamp and Mortplayer is generally free. So take a look at the players yourself in order to see whether they suit you or not.
Background noise
Well there's no point trying, the thing is hardware related - no equalizer or software player can cure it.
I'm coming from HD2 and it had the same problem, way more audible.
Basically every phone I've tried had this kind of backround noise, the one with lowest levels of it is HTC Desire S.
This noise is barely audible or not audible at all when you're using low quality phones, but when using good ones (Fischer Audio Eterna here) you can easily spot it..
Currently my player of choice is PowerAmp - it has the best quality of MP3 decoding libraries, sound stage is rich, wide and detailed, so I can live with a little amount of noise. When I can't, I'm using Desire S as a MP3 player
So that's what its called, noise gate
I have had this since I bought the Note, through Gingerbread now ICS, watching films with headphones or listening to music, the low quiet bits are cut and simply go silent, hate it, as I listen to lots of music and watch films, its constantly cutting sound out and back on...starting to think its a hardware fault, but others are obviously getting this too, so surely there is a fix
It is noticed that while listening through headphones that the sound is being affected by some sort of 3D/spacial/EQ process that might give the impression of "punch" for movies but at the expense of phase-y sounding vocals and smeared high notes for music.
Yikes. Thst stuff is not good for music quality. No way to turn off? The settings options seems kind of scarce.
After playing around with various music players and headphones it seems that the audio is now OK.
Not sure what happened. It may have been a headphone jack issue. Audio sounds great now.
Oooops!
There is an issue with sound quality. Compared it to a Rockbox'ed Sandisk Clip Zip with a very wide stereo track 2-channel stereo track (fyi -- Brook Benton's "Kiddio" 1960). There is some EQ bast boost and high frequency crossfeed that narrows the stereo separation. I'm going to boot from CM and see if the problem persists.
For video I would not notice the issue, but could get to me listening to music with my Klipsch S4 buds.
Update:
It is not bad. Seems part of the issue is low gain which can be increased with Volume+ or other similar app function.
Volume+ did the trick for me. Jamming to some Coheed at the moment. Sounds as good as my other tablets now
The problem was never with volume -- I think stock has plenty of volume for driving Audio Technica ATH-900x. The problem is with some sort of audio processing that affects the soundstage and frequency response.
I am not hearing it using the Google player app. Gain is not the same as volume. Both need to correlate or weak quality.
SRS processing is used and applied at the headphone output. See HD+ file \system\etc\srs_processing.cfg
This is what I use, have my settings set to Jazz "my preference", audio sounds great, not talking about low resolution MP3's.

I understand the config issue, but I am not hearing it. I should hear the sound manipulation with cymbal decay as example, but not hearing it. Weird.
Playback in CM 10.1 has the correct stereo image.
