Where are WAV files stored? MP3? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I am looking to ad some new ringtones to my 8525 Hermes, but I am not even sure if it accepts MP3 files for ringtones, and most importantly, where are the ringtones files kept? Thanks

\windows\rings\
Theoretically you can put them on SD card and make a change to the registry but don't do it cos that can sverely delay ringing on icoming calls and even cause a crash.
Now as to MP3s the answer is yes but I suggest you use the google sticky search near the top of the messages listings to carry out searches on the hermes and MP3. That Google sticky post would also have answered your question about where to store ringtomes

Hey Mike
I know that a Scottish accent makes it difficult for many Americans to understand the Gaelic substratum, but I never knew that the spelling of English words was also that different in Scotland!
By the way, you never did tell me where the optimal folder for placing ringtones is located. One of the ringtone vendors said Windows\Ring was where they go, but when I opened the folder it was empty. I guess that the ringtones that came with the phone are in ROM or are in a different folder.

Cheeky monkey Those missing letters are a result of being in a rush to type the answer and it being late at night in Scotland and me using a mini keyboard and ..... and..... and......
Since we are getting petty here, I did state the folder, right at the start of the message and in bold "windows/rings".

downloads for XDAII

how do i get new wallpapers and ringtones etc etc for my XDA other than the ones they already provide?
as to ring tones then what you are really asking is
where can i get .wav .mp3 and .mid files
because you can use them all
so use google
about wallpapir then all pictures that the xda can display will do
more to the point then i feel you may be looking for skins for the today screen
which are called .tsk
here are some
http://www.free-computer-wallpapers.com/pocket-pc.htm
here is how you find some more
http://www.google.dk/search?hl=da&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=pocketpc+theme&btnG=Google-søgning
do i open download it on my computer then sync it onto my XDA or download it straight to my XDA?
for tsk files, you need to use activesync and save the file directly to your unit's"my documents" folder. for pics, the xda2 allows you use the picture software to set any pic you want as the wallpaper.
for wavs used as ringtones, you can save them direct to your unit's "windows" folder. you then need to use the "add ringtone" app to be able to use the wav file as a ringtone. or simply use them for notification sounds, alarms, etc. again, tyhrough activesync.
or if you have an sd-card reader you can simply save the files to the card, insert it back to the ppc and then save them in the designated folders described above.

XDA II: Assigning different ringtones to different contacts

Does anyone know if this can be done on the XDA II?
One of the third party software that I used for this purpose is MTUX RintoneX. Have a look at www.mtux.com
Like Chriswo I too use RingToneX to add that missing feature of user assignable ringtones to my XDA II. It's isn't freeware but it does work well and is easy to use.
Any sign of a freeware application to do this simple task alone anyone?
RinTonex
Dear Criswo and Ednap,
to use RinTonex did had to unistall the IA software or can you get the picture from the IA SW and the ring from RinTonex?
Thanks!
Chris
P.S.: also, have you tried other appications for this purpouse? Why do you think that RinTonex is better than the other available...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=522&highlight=
IA Caller ID doesn't need to be uninstall. RingtoneX can work on top of IA Caller ID after all, one sees the numbers and find the matching PHOTO, and the other sees the number and find the matching Ringtone. They can work together.
THANK YOU!!!
WOW!
This is what I wanted to hear!!!
I wasn't sure both SWs could see the caller at the same time!
I undestanding you have used this combination and it worked!
Thanks!
Chris
Exactly like chriswo says, they can work side by side and all OK
does ne 1 have the serial for ringtonex ???

plz don't post keygens & hacks on this forum.
There are other places for them, and nobody wants to risk the closing of this one.
Time and Place for everything. I am sure we all might know places to get keygens and hacks for various needs.
However, this forum is NOT the place for it. There are other places to post that.
A moderator should remove the postings as soon as possible.
There is no other place even remotely like XDA-Developers. To get it shut down because somebody has no class would be really pathetic.
Give Phonext a try, it is free and does what the OP wants: assign a ringtone to a contact. You'll find it here:

Ok, sorry
Phonext on my SX56
I can't run the "SetupPhonExt_PPC2002.exe" on my XDA. is it because its the ATT version? I unlocked it by switching to PPC2002 w/ the unlock in the ROm, then reflashing w/ WM2003. I copied the file over, and it can't install. Is there something i'm missing? It says it is not a valid application.

Funy Today Screens (.TSK) Thread

Not sure if I've made this in the right forum but here goes.
Had a Vario/Wizard just over a month now and I've decided to have a go at making some today themes. Been browsing for them for ages and could never find anything I liked.
Here is my first theme. (Hopefully of many to come) Im starting with easy on the eye themes that arent going mad in the background and distract from using the today screen for what its for. Hope everyone likes it and will post a couple more later in the week if i get a chance.

Feedback welcome.
Funy
Its a nice one. U should post more of these simple and nice looking themes.
thats the plan, just found that most themes ive found so far are a bit "busy" and make it hard to see whats on screen. Will hopefully have a few more to post in a few days.
Am i allowed to make xda-developer themed ones? (Mods/admins?)
thanks for the feedback
Just posted a green one and a pink one (for the girls....if there are any here )

Made this one from a holiday photo, kind of chilled evening pic thought it came out quite nice.
Enjoy
tsk files
what do i do with tsk files?? lol i kno im a noob. can someone message me back?
Copy the .tsk to your phone (preferably into the same location as other .tsk files, which for most file managers will be the "My Documents" directory).
Use ANY file manager including the default File Explorer to find it on your Wizard.
Double click the file and it'll open the default theme selector app for WM5, and select the new title.
Bob's your uncle.
thanks
thanks man apreciate it
appologies everyone for the screenshots being down, recently replace my web site managed to delete the screen shots, i have restored a backup now so you can see them.
I will try and get some new themes up soon for WM6

Kessler's Dialer Skins

I'm repeating my post from ppcgeeks, but I thought some people might appreciate them.
Well, I spent some time and made up a few different colours in 2 styles.
These are optimized indexed colour images so they take up as little ram as possible.
Once you install a cab do a soft reset. Feedback appreciated!

*note* These cabs make the following change on your phone. They overwrite the following files in the windows directory: Assets_dialer_Normal.bmp and Assets_dialer_Pressed.bmp , that is all.
Since there is no uninstaller, if you plan on going back to your old skin you should make a copy of those files. For anyone that wants to go back and doesn't have those files, the white and black original skins are available.
Using Total Commander copy the original files to the windows directory. Allow it to overwrite the existing files and then do a soft reset.
* I am not responsible for your phone blowing up, spontaneously combusting, insulting your in-laws or calling ex-girlfriends when you get drunk and should have been out with Ty and Mike that night anyways.

Hi,
Very nice, your last ones (White & yellow) are great !
Thanx,
Thanks a lot.
I will keep it on my phone.
WOW Wonderful job...so neat and clean
Best past is that they don't eat up memory. Its simply changes just 2 bmp files. Really good job
Wish if you can also change buttons when the number is dialed. I mean buttons of Call history, Mute, Notes, Speaker, and End button.
Screenshot of the buttons as below

Thanks for all the feedback
Simple and useful - it allows the phone skin adjust to the color of the bars. I like to change the colors, currently I use the glossy blue...

FINALLY Easy Method for CUSTOM Ringtone in HTC HD7 !!!!!!!

Making your own tones
But we know many of you have a particular ringtone in mind—or sound files already on your PC that you’d like to turn into one. In Mango, we give you the flexibility to do this yourself—with some important caveats. To qualify as a ringtone, a sound file must be:
1. 39 seconds or shorter
2. smaller than 1 megabyte (MB)
3. saved in MP3 or WMA format
4. not copy-protected (i.e. DRM free)
In short, custom ringtones can be installed using the Zune software on your PC. Once you’ve created an audio file that meets the ringtone requirements, find it in your Zune music collection, right-click the file, and change the Genre field to Ringtone. Then just sync the file to your phone like you would any music track.

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Don’t worry: items marked Ringtone won’t show up in your phone’s music collection—so there’s no need to fear that during a workout you’ll suddenly hear your dog barking or other homemade ring. Instead, you’ll see them in Ringtones + Sounds in Settings, under a new Custom category we’ve created.
god very nice solution, thank youuuu. it s better short way to make your own ringtones.
This trick was posted in WP7 forum at begining of September. Can be used only on Zune 4.8 final.
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
you can use any MP3 editor to change the Genre to ringtone as well...
I use MP3Tag
very good these tips parabens.
Does this work on alerts as well? I.e. Change the genre to ALERT?
